The Bite is a debut novel written by Ms. Taylor that's now being released in English - I started it with the idea of paranormal romance with shifters (which I'm longing for!), but I got something else here. It's all right (see the rating), but it's different from what I was hoping for.
Our FMC, a girl named Charlotte did not have an easy time in her life - she's running away from her abusive boyfriend, sorry - ex-boyfriend. Her purpose is for him to never be able to find her, so going to the most remote place (Alaska) sounds like a great idea to keep herself safe. Yet, never did she expects to get bitten... by a werewolf! Now her life to say the most minor changes - she can become a were or die... what will it be?
This book is not on the descriptive side, and by this I mean it's straightforward forward so complexity is not high, which I would like to develop in the next story, as there were shifters' perspectives presented and we got to understand some rules (few were new to me - so it was nice, but I think it gave me a feeling that it was too long to keep me entertained.
I was looking for a romance here, but Ms. Taylor did not include it here (or gave me too few hints to catch it properly). I think I still liked it as a nice break from my usual genres (nowadays) but has tightened up my appetite for a good ol' PNR romance.

I received an ARC through NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group, W by Wattpad Books in exchange for an honest review.

The Bite is an interesting story set in a world that has both humans and the supernatural. Charlotte, the main protagonist is running from an abusive relationship and goes as far as the Alaskan border to get away. Just as she starts to feel safe, she is attacked in the night and thrust into a world that she did not imagine. Enter in some brooding men and a few who bring life to the group.

I enjoy reading books with supernatural elements to it and this is a good werewolf story. The author even includes vampires and some mentions or hints of other supernatural beings. I enjoyed reading about Charlotte and how she grows as a person. Her story is one of strength and findings herself and she does this in the most unusual circumstances but with a lot of unexpected help. She finds her place among a group of people whom she did not expect to know.

Some parts of the story did confuse me and I did not understand all of the character interactions. Some of the characters were not as well developed as I would have liked and their back stories were not as detailed as they could have been. This made it a little difficult for me to fully get into the story and it took some time to connect with the story and the characters.

However, I am glad that I kept reading the book until the end. I enjoyed it overall and was able to appreciate Charlotte's journey and everyone who supported her to get there. The story is definitely worth reading and I am looking forward to reading then next book in the series. Fans of the fantasy and supernatural genres and those who love adventure will enjoy this read!

Wow! Did I enjoy a book with no romance? I sure did! The paranormal elements and found family definitely made up for the lack of romance. Honestly, I was glad there wasn't a romance because our main character wasn't ready for that after her past. I absolutely loved getting to know Charlotte. I loved her journey and the growth she undergoes. Overall, this was a fascinating story and I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series.

A beautifully written dark werewolf novel, with interesting and unique lore and fantasy world building. I loved how this was a darker take on the average werewolf novel, nothing is easy and it’s not this magical gift, in fact it’s very dangerous and the change kills most people. Also I love the character of Charlotte she’s so strong yet so vulnerable, I think she made a really good protagonist and was incredibly well written, you can’t help but root for her and I can’t wait to see what happens to her in book 2.

All the topics mentioned were also heartbreaking, with domestic abuse both verbal and physical and also mentions of depression, body problems and loss. Everything felt skilfully written and not just added for dramatic effect, it added depth to the characters and drew me to them more, especially Levi who I initially didn’t really like.

Overall I really enjoyed this, I was shocked by how much, it was so unique and I can’t wait to read more, I only wish that it was longer.

one of the best books I've read in a very long time. I first read it on Wattpad but reading the published version made me fall in love again. the characters, the plot, everything about this book was **chefs kiss**

Charlotte is such an amazing character. she is literally such a baddie. my girl went through so much and I'm so happy she was able to overcome her struggles and become a better version of herself.

don't even get me started on Levi and Derek--my heart belongs to them😭 the way they took my girl in, cared for her, loved her, and taught her how to be her best self. their scenes had me tearing up and an emotional mess. they're the family she never knew she needed. Levi is like a papa bear to Char and it's just so heartwarming, the joking, the banter, the way he's always encouraging her to give her best. I need Levi in my life :( Derek is such a sweetheart, omg, they both treat her like their own and I love the relationship they have. Derek's always looking out for her, not to mention he's an AMAZING cook. can he 𝘣𝘦 any more perfect? **Chandler Bing's voice**

as for the plot, i was HOOKED the entire time. I really liked the whole werewolf aspect and learning more about them. everything was explained perfectly, so if you're a beginner it's going to be very easy for you to understand all the details. one thing I really liked was that Charlotte spoke so deeply about her wolf like she's now a part of herself and she owes it to her wolf to love herself and do the right thing. and she's right. it was very moving at times. after what she went through with her toxic ex-husband, i loved seeing her growth and watching her embrace every part of herself and find people who love every version of her💕

the side characters were also very interesting. i loved how everybody treats Charlotte like they'd known her forever. the inside jokes, the fighting it felt so natural to me.

there was romance in this book but the love interest was introduced very later on in the book, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. my love Ethan came into Char's life at the right time and my girl made him work. for. it. she didn't take shit from this man and made it clear from the beginning that he was gonna have to earn the title of her "mate" and he DID! Ethan's character development was **chefs kiss** watching him get his head out of his ass was very entertaining indeed lol.

overall, i highly highly recommend this book. no matter how many times i read i love it more every time. the writing, the characters, everything was written so well. it makes me really happy that such an amazing book got published. after re-reading on Wattpad for years, it's a dream to have the published version❤️Z.W. Taylor is such an amazing author. the insane plot, the storyline, the characters, the CHARACTERS are so well written it feels like you know them personally and can feel every single emotion they feel. I've never felt this connected to the characters while reading. every character's background story made me fall in love with them even more. especially my baby Levi's🥺💔

I recently read The Bite by Z.W Taylor and found it to be an enjoyable paranormal novel.

The story follows Charlotte, a young woman who has fled from an abusive relationship. After being bitten by a werewolf, she must come to terms with her new life and the changes that come with it.

The book does not contain any romance due to Charlotte's past, but instead focuses on her journey of self-discovery. I found the story to be engaging and well-paced, though the ending felt a bit rushed.

I should also note that this book contains some triggering content, including domestic abuse, rape, and death. I originally read the book on Wattpad and enjoyed it more than the advanced reader copy I received from NetGalley. All in all, The Bite is a good read for anyone looking for a paranormal story without romance.

The Bite is an exciting read about Charlotte, who flees her abusive boyfriend and heads to Alaska to start over.
Things get a little wild when she is attacked & bitten. Then she is taken in by the unlikely pair Levi & Derek a vampire & a werewolf.
I loved all the side characters, this was a great read.

I have received an eARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.

This is a powerful story of power within a woman...

Before reading this book you should check for TW. This book deals with a topic that is, unfortunately, an ongoing problem in society.

If you are new to werewolf stories this is a perfect book to start with. The whole story has a great pace, a little bit on the slower side which is perfect to get to learn a lot about the werewolf world. Every character has a strong personality with so much depth and halfway through the story, you are not here for the book you are here to stay for the characters...

Charlie, the MFC, is one strong character and her only mistake is that she believed in love blindly. When the problem goes to the no-returning point, she finally opened her eyes. Every thought, every trauma that was holding her back, she set as a marked point that needed to be crossed and there is no turning back.
It started strong from the first chapter, you could just feel her pain and the hurt, the dilemma of whether what you are doing is the right thing, whether you are wrong, the lack of confidence that someone else brought up on you and is just killing your judgment.

Her journey to a better life starts with one good friend, some money, a car, an open road to Alaska, and an idea of being free and her own again.
What she found there was not something she expected but in the end, what she needed found her.

The exciting world of werewolves, vampires, and witches is so well written and immersed in the world that is surrounding us, so be aware of who will you meet next :)

What is also an amazing fact is that this book was started at wattpad :)

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
SPICE: 🔥

I did not realize that this was a trilogy as I was reading it. That actually alleviated my annoyance about the lack of physical connection between the two main characters, especially when their chemistry is off the chain.

Charlotte is on the run from her abusive husband. She has ditched any remnants of her past life -- including her image -- and is driving to a safe haven in Alaska. A wrong turn leads her to a dangerous path that involves a run-in with rogue wolves. A bite from one changes the course of her life forever.

The book is captivating from the get-go. I held my breath as Charlotte navigates through her escape, and the suspense transitions nicely into mystery around the aftermath of the bite. There are points in the story where the explanation of Charlotte's condition becomes too much, but the charisma of the characters keeps drawing you in.

As I mentioned, I love the connection between Charlotte and her potential love interest. Every exchange just leaves us wanting more. We don't get that in this read, so I am hoping that Z.W. Taylor is reserving that for Books 2 and 3.

I also love the supporting cast. Derek, Elliott, and even the elusive Lander will charm readers to want to know more about their own stories.

Folks looking for romance may be disappointed, but this book may be laying the groundwork for an amazing love story. I will certainly be reading Books 2 and 3 to see this series through.

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Z.W. Taylor, Wattpad, and NetGalley for providing an ARC. **

I had originally read this story on Wattpad for the first time many years ago and when I had heard that this story would be published, I immediately knew I needed to get my own copy.
Overall, I really liked it! I love how the author described the process of a scared and fragile young woman on the run from her abusive partner, being able to grow and dive deep into her own self, and come out to be not only a werewolf, but a tenacious and resilient woman who have used her past traumatic experiences and come out strong at the end. I also really enjoyed the relationship that Charlie had with all of the characters in the story, in particular Levi. He was my favorite character :)
In the original version, it was VERY long so when the announcement came that the author was publishing, I had wondered how it was going to format without having it drag. I found that the flow of the published version and how it was decided to end this first book this way to be very good and it makes you anticipate what’s going to happen next in the story.
I deduct one star because I found the use of Charlie girl to be very repetitive and it kind of got a little bit frustrating while reading. Also, this version is published as being a romance story. However, there is no romance in the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad Books for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I haven't read a werewolf book as vividly descriptive as this one, it was fascinating. What happens after a bite to a human is so detailed in this story. It was well written and the characters are really great. A easy fast read that will leave you wanting more wolf stories.

Ok, this book had me at the MC driving a 4Runner 👌🏻🙌🏻

The story starts off with the FMC running away from her abusive boyfriend. The thoughts going through her head are very realistic to how someone in that situation is feeling.

Although I enjoyed reading this story, there where many things that could have really brought this book to its full potential. Like more information about the MC at the beginning, or more details and information about other things. Also there where some inconsistencies that I found.

Charlotte is strong, wants to take her life back after being controlled and putting up with her abusive ex for so long. When she is bitten and finds out about werewolves and how she might need to find a mate, she wants no part in having another man in her life. She is strong, determined and near the end she feels very empowered!

Not a lot of action happens in this book, it’s just the FMC’s journey after being bitten and the transition she needs to go through. The characters keep it interesting though, especially Derek. I love Derek !!

Trigger warnings
Attempted SA & mention of past SA

Supernatural. Werewolves, vampires.

Someone is always drinking alcohol.

There’s not really any romance in this at all.

Ok so Wattpad Books is becoming my go to Publisher for some pretty amazing bingy reads!

The Bite by Z. W. Taylor was seriously an interesting story.
Charlotte is a wonderful female lead who I was immediately sucked into her story and captivated to her world!
The Alaskan setting was done so well. I enjoyed it tremendously.
A very well contemporary paranormal story with twist along the way that kept me glued to my Kindle.
I definitely loved the bigger picture that was painted here.
A woman running from an abusive ex, as she leans to gain back control of her own life and learns how to live again.

Charlotte thought the hardest thing she could ever do was escape her abusive relationship, but she faces even more challenges after being attacked by a lone wolf in the Alaskan wilderness. She must find inner strength to survive. I loved this book. It has a good message and a strong female lead. It was so different than anything I have read lately. I highly recommend.

I have very high expectations when it comes to wearwolf books having lived off the greatest like Kelley Armstrong and Patricia Briggs. When i saw this book i thought it seemed very similar to those. This isn't the kind of werewolf book that is full of magical situations that leave the reader confused this book gives more of a human feel to its characters as they live with their "condition". Our main character is a woman named Charlotte who is running away from an abusive relationship. She is then unexpectedly bitten by a loan wolf. This is when her world starts to change. Now not only must she survive being bitten and living through her first change she must also come to terms with what it means to be a pack Wolf and the pulling connection of her mate. What I liked more about this book was it was mostly about her changing life and her relationship with pack Wolf Liam and her best friend the vampire Derek. I did find parts of this book to be repetitive and I wasn't to sure of what the actual plot was besides Charlotte surviving the change at points however I didn't mind because those plot points were amazing so it made for a fantastic read. I liked the most how Charlotte tried to stay true to herself and not get swallowed up in this mate bond that she didn't ask for or fully understand. This book features a strong female lead which more authors should strive to achieve. Good read with a story that leaves you thinking and characters that are easy to relate to. I'm so glad that I got the chance to check out this book. If you aren't sure about fantasy or just want something that isn't too magical then this is the book for you. it has enough realism in it to keep everything grounded and it doesn't make the reader feel like they must learn a second language to keep up. This book was very well written and I can't wait to read the second book in this series when it comes out.

Content Warnings: Body horror, PTSD [due to years of domestic abuse, rape, loss of body autonomy, and gaslighting], animal death, death of a parent, and mention of surviving the murder of a child and pregnant partner.

***I received an ARC, ahead of release, through Netgalley. All thoughts are my own.***

After reading the summary I was excited to read this book, made even more so once I found out a few friends had previously read the original Wattpad version and loved it.

The little bit of history/lore we get about shifters and vampires has me sincerely wanting to learn more and more.

I loved that this book didn't shy away from the realistic flashbacks that many abuse survivors deal with or how vivid your abusers' voice still is in your head. A lot of people struggle to understand why abuse victims stay with their abuser and I feel like the author did a great job of showing how much you can know a person is harming you and hurting you but how hard it is to finally realize that loving them doesn't mean anything when they continue to hurt you. It doesn't matter how many times someone can tell you that the person is bad...until you finally realize your life means nothing more than control to them...you feel powerless to take action.

My only small complaint was the ending felt a bit rushed. I just wish they'd lengthened the ending a little bit more so that we could see more of Charlotte's evolution of building her emotional/mental/physical strength.

Overall I enjoyed this book and can't wait to see where this series goes. I look forward to seeing more of Charlotte and the strong woman she's becoming.
