I think that this book had the makings of a really good domestic thriller, but unfortunately it did fall flat for me. It's interesting to see the dynamic between these 3 people, but it does not at all come to a satisfying conclusion. Not a lot happens in the enitre book, then in the last 10 minutes something significant occurs, then it aburptly ends. I think that if this was going to be a great thriller/pseudo-thriller, it should have been less wordy in the first 90%, then take those pieces and put them together into something new AFTER that big reveal at the very end of the book. It felt like the pacing was all sorts of out-of-wack here.
I enjoyed that it was coming from the 3 different perspectives, but I truly think that it should have been JUST from the husband and the best friend. If the wife never had a perspective at all, or just at the end it was her POV, it would be a lot of exhilarating.
Unfortunately, this was not the book for me!

The Three of Us intrigued me initially - a wife and a husband, and her friend, and the husband and friend cannot stand each other. The whole story takes place over the course of a single day, while also explaining how the friendship and marriage both came to be, and interlacing dynamics of these relationships.
I thought this was a really interesting concept, but the actual story ended up falling a bit flat for me. To be honest, I’m a bit confused by the ending too. It was very abrupt and I’m not sure I completely understand what was going on.
Overall, a quick read and I could see some people really enjoying it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc!

I thought this book was so well written and cleverly executed. Whenever you have a shifting narrative and two characters dislike each other, there is a danger of dialogue and interactions seeming overdone or unrealistic. But this book pulled it off perfectly! I agreed with each character while I was reading their perspective, and then quickly switched perspectives and felt for the next narrator. I did feel stressed by the tension and discord, but that only shows how well it was portrayed and set up.
I would have loved more resolution at the end, but I know that would have been too neat and convenient!

What if your best friend and your husband hated each other? Like truly, deep down, despised everything about the other. This book takes one day, and we see it from each of the three characters perspectives.
This book had so much going for it, but unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. I enjoyed the story, but I wanted so much more. We see the same situation from three perspectives, but there wasn’t much different in each perspective. It starts to get really interesting at the end and then just ends. I just needed more from this one. I was so excited when I read the synopsis here, but sadly it didn’t do it for me.

A story that gives us the perspective of three people over the course of one day. Domestic drama and a friend who can’t let go. Interesting concept is a pro. A con for me is the writing style, it was hard to follow along in some scenes.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

The vibe of these three characters didn’t really sit well with me. I don’t feel like I connected with any of them so therefor their story didn’t connect with me and I didnt understand their motivations.

Oh my, what a toxic trio! These relationships are purely self-serving, and in this quick read, we have a front row seat to the implosion of a marriage and friendship. Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review.

I enjoyed the writing style and will certainly read from this author again. It was a quick read and the characters were fleshed out of and vivid. I did think going in it was a psychological thriller. It was not. More a character study of these 3 people the best friend. The husband, and the wife caught between them. Thank you Putnam publishing and NetGalley for an early ARC

I literally couldn't put this book down. Every chapter had me totally captivated in the story and each character was fun and interesting to read from.
Usually there's one POV that just falls flat, but this story I enjoyed all three equally.
This story is a wild ride and I loved every minute of it.
Thank you NetGalley and Putnam Books for letting me read an ARC of this book. It publishes on May 16, 2023 and it's a story you don't want to miss out on!

This book was painful for me to get through. There is the wife, friend and husband as the three characters who each narrator 1/3 of the book. The friend is jealous and overbearing and is not a fan of the husband. The husband is just as not a fan of the friend and the wife is in the middle. Nothing happens because the book has already happened and they are just retelling their history.

The Three of Us is Ore Agbaje-Williams debut novel and for me barely rates a 1 ½ star review. This novel fails on so many levels.
It is a one day story in the lives of three people; a Nigerian husband and wife that remain nameless throughout the book and the wife’s best friend Temi who actually gets a name. They are the three most annoying, calculating, passive aggressive and backhanded characters that encompass an entire book. There are three sections in the book where each character has their own POV section.
The wife has no backbone and lets Temi use her like a doormat, she does not speak up for herself nor her husband. The husband and Temi “HATE” each other yet he puts up with her in his home. Temi is a manipulative disturb human being that has no respect for anyone including herself. The three of them manage to drink quite a bit .. I think I counted at least six bottles of wine.
I found the writing clunky, no character development, and the fact that the lack of quotation marks to distinguish dialogue made the reading even more difficult.
Nothing really happens in the book until you get close to the end when you think something finally will happen, but it just abruptly just ends. I felt like I wasted a week slogging through this book
Thank you, Ore Agbaje-Williams, Penguin Group Putnum and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. This novel is due to be released on May 16, 2023.

I really like the premise of this book, and I really wanted to like it, but it was too much. I felt like the characters weren't well-rounded enough, and I never really understood the dynamics of the relationships, which is the book's point.

This book was good. I liked it alot and the story line was good. I could see this made into a movie.
I just reviewed The Three of Us by Ore Agbaje-Williams. #TheThreeofUs #NetGalley

Short easy read, not my cup of tea at all. Just lots of narration and lack of punctuation is always difficult for me.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I DNFed this at around 33% mark. The book was okay actually not that bad, but I didn't see that it goes anywhere with the story. Also, the lack of quotation marks was so confusing. Maybe that's the main reason for he DNF

This is a very fast read that covers the day in the life of a married couple and the wife's friend. There are three sections, from each of the character's perspective.
I enjoyed the building of the story as we learn a little about each person and their past and how they met and how they relate to each other.
In a nutshell, the friend is not cool with the wife being married. She and the friend had a life before marriage and she really wants it to go back that way and will do what it takes to "rescue" her friend. She does not like the husband.
The wife is probably the dullest character even though I enjoyed her bit too. She's a little complacent and not very strongly opinionated, like her friend. She is happy to be married but she just likes doing the bare minimum.
The husband is the breadwinner. He likes being married because his wife doesn't have drama in her life and he likes things simple. And now he wants a child and the wife agreed finally that it would be okay.
The friend intervenes and the ending is pretty jarring, you are really left thinking, WTF just happened????
I really liked this and am looking forward to more from this author.
definitely a character study of marriage and having a best friend who is single and not letting things go.

A relatively short book that packs a punch right into the middle of relationship expectations. Told in three sections representing the wife, the husband, and the friend, all Nigerians living in the UK. Interestingly, the expectations placed onto the women in this culture are very high. High income careers, advantageous marriages, children, and continued serving one's husband simultaneously is drilled into the female's head from her earliest days.
When the two women of our story meet, they are preadolescent with one bowing to cultural expectations while the other has decided to live life her own way. Yet they become fast and true friends bringing out the willfulness in one another. Until marriage disrupts the balance.
I found each segment of the book fascinating as the husband and the friend battle for the wife's total devotion. Each missing out on the fact the wife has free will and has made choices the other's seem to disregard as it doesn't fit into their relationship plan. It was also uncomfortable the wife did not call out her friend for invasive behaviors. I felt like I was in the room looking for an exit!
I enjoyed this book immensely as it takes place over one day but covers the history of all the characters. The ending is not tidy but I enjoyed that as well. I could see this as a 3-act play.
Thank you to Putnam Books and Netgalley for access to an early copy. All opinions are mine.

I think this would have been better as a short story. I thought as a character study it was well-written. However, as a novel, I expect there to be more of a plot with a build-up, climax and then resolution. There was only the build up. All three characters were unlikeable: the friend for obvious reasons; the wife for allowing her friend to be disrespectful to her husband, and the husband for being spineless. They did make me feel things though. I was just left unsatisfied.

Aptly named book, as it is presented in three chapters about three people, each chapter from a different person’s viewpoint. Written in a unique manner that is very effective in telling the story of a married couple and the wife’s best friend. The wife, husband and friend are telling the same story, but from each of their viewpoints. I thought towards the end there might be a stunning revelation, but no, the last chapter just ended. Nothing fancy or revealing. the book just ended. So, I guess we were just being given a glimpse int a couple’s life and how the wife’s friend was intertwined in the marriage. At any rate it was an enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review an advance copy of this book.
