In 1982, pretty Emily Vaughn goes to the prom alone. She's pregnant and no longer in school. Emily didn't enjoy the prom, and she never made it home. Her body was found in a dumpster. The crime was not solved. Emily's baby survived though, Raised by her grandparents, the whole town wondered who had fathered the child.

One of the possible fathers is Clayton Morrow, aka Nicholas Harp. The jailed criminal Harp was father to Andrea Oliver.. Much to her mother and step-father's chagrin, Andrea graduates from US Marshall school. Her first assignment is to protect a judge, Emily's mother. Believing that there is a good possibility Emily's baby is her sister, Andrea conducts her own investigation into the events of 40 years ago.

The story in the story is a bit convoluted, but eventually things are explained. Andrea is not a sterling example of a new marshal. She has a tendency to break rules, which gets her into trouble with her partner, Leonard (Catfish) Bible. Catfish and his wife are fun characters. They could probably produce enough adventures for a couple of books themselves.

So,. this book includes mystery, intrigue, civil disobedience, and a bit of a possible romance. I enjoyed it enough to hunt down the first in the series. Kathleen Early, the narrator, has voiced Slaughter's other audio books and does a great job. I think I enjoyed it as an audio more than I would have enjoyed it as a written work.

I love Karin Slaughter her books have NEVER let me down. This crime thriller will appeal to fans of her for sure and other mystery readers. This is a compulsive read loaded with suspense and tension that had me gripped from page one to the end. This is a sequel to pieces of her so you could read that first but I also feel like you could go without that. Either way you’ll learn about Andrea and both books are amazing. Although pretty girls will always be my favorite book of Karin’s this is also a five star to me. Definitely recommend it!

Oh boy I can’t believe this was my first Karin Slaughter book! Absolutely loved this one! It was a slow burn to start which I ended up really enjoying because I hadn’t read the first book. I felt like I got enough information to be caught up and didn’t feel like I missed a while book which was great.

Slaughter’s writing is incredible, the flow and pace were perfect. The story was super entertaining and had great twists and turns!
The audio quality was outstanding, as was the narration!

Didn’t finish this book. Difficult to follow. Didn’t connect with characters. Karin’s book are typically dark, which I was fine with … but I just couldn’t connect with this one. I was actually angry because I was so lost at the start.

Karen Slaughter is a master storyteller! This thriller was engaging and creative with a dual timeliness. The author was fabulous and her various voices were fabulous. Tense, inventive and exciting!

I don’t know about anyone else, but when Karin Slaughter announces her next book, it automatically hits my to-read list. From her Will Trent series to her standalone novels, she never disappoints. So it will come as no surprise I was thrilled the follow-up to PIECES OF HER was coming.

GIRL, FORGOTTEN is a taut, carefully crafted investigation into a murder forty years ago. The ties between the past and the present are so expertly woven together that the reader will be on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.

Slaughter has gifted her readers with the evolution of Andrea Oliver, who is now a US Marshal. Being able to revisit this complex and flawed character was so wonderful. I loved how she still has insecurities but is developing the tools she needs to fight back.

With suspense, grit, and an insightful look into the underbelly of human nature, Slaughter has done it again. Would it be wishful thinking that Andrea Oliver will have another book or maybe a series? A girl can dream.

Girl, Forgotten is the second installment in the Andrea Oliver series but can be read as a standalone, the book has several trigger warnings which can be found in my Girl, Forgotten highlight on my feed. This is a slow burn, but much to Slaughter fashion she has delivered a dark complex story. Though her chapters are long they always seem to work in her books and almost always have a cliffhanger of an ending that makes you say, just one more chapter as you need to know. The alternating timeline, which is always a plus for me worked so well as we went from present day Andrea to Emily's story back in the early 80's as the stories weave together causing tension and suspese as we start to get the entire picture of events.

This crime thriller, although not as dark and disturbing as some of slaughters other books, yet deals with tough topics and will pull at your heart will sit high on my Slaughter favorites and I highly recommend picking it up.

Picked up the book just because it is written by Karin Slaughter, but oh my goodness

I consumed this book as an audiobook. It will clearly be in my top five for Karin Slaughter

How interesting that we started with Emily and moved on to the judge...

When I requested the audiobook I didn't realize it was a sequel to Pieces of Her which I did not read but did watch it on Netflix. I decided it would be OK to try it, and I am so glad I did. I enjoy detective novels but sometimes there is too much technical jargon but this one was the right amount. I really enjoyed Andrea's character and will continue to read this series if more are published. I really need to look at some of Karin Slaughter's other novels. I kept thinking I knew who it was but I wasn't even close. I always have to appreciate an author that kept me guessing the entire book.

Prom Night. Longbill Beach, 1982. Emily Vaughn dresses carefully for what's supposed to be the highlight of any high school career. But Emily has a secret. And by the end of the night, because of that secret, she will be dead.

Nearly forty years later, Andrea Oliver, newly qualified as a US Marshal, receives her first assignment: to go to Longbill Beach to protect a judge receiving death threats. But Andrea's real focus isn't the judge – it's Emily Vaughn. Ever since she first heard Emily's name a year ago, she's been haunted by her brutal death. Nobody was ever convicted – her friends closed ranks, and her family shut themselves off in their grief. Andrea will try to uncover the truth after 40 years.

Andrea Oliver is back in a sequel to Karin Slaughter's Pieces of Her. Two years before, Andrea learned that her real father was a psychopath , her mother had been lying to her for her whole life, and they had been in witness protection since she was a young child. Now, Andrea has just graduated from the U.S.Marshall's program. Her first assignment is to protect a federal judge whose life has been threatened. This judge is also the mother of a girl who was murdered 40 years earlier.. It's possible that Andrea's biological father was the murderer. If Andrea can find the proof that he was indeed the killer, it would be enough to keep him in jail for the rest of his life. But there is so much at risk and Andrea's life is in danger as she tries to keep the judge safe.
Girl Forgotten is suspenseful and thrilling. I highly recommend this exciting story.

I didn't realize when I requested this book it was the second in the series to the Netflix show I had just finished watching. A great surprise. Really enjoyed the POV being Andy and not her Mom.

Like all of Slaughter’s books, this was a very compelling thriller that kept me guessing. Andrea is an intriguing protagonist and I’d love it if her partnership with Bible evolved into a series!

Title: Girl, Forgotten (Pieces of Her #2)
Author: Karin Slaughter
Narrated by: Kathleen Early
Publisher: Dreamscape Media
Length: 15 hours and 45 Minutes
Source: Blackstone Publishing & Netgalley. Thank-you!

What author do you turn to when you are looking for a great suspense or thriller novel? Over the past few years, Karin Slaughter has been just such an author for me. I am always carried away by her books and I can’t stop reading them.

If you enjoyed Pieces of Her, you will be excited by Girl, Forgotten. This time Andrea is the main character. She is now a U.S. Marshall. She is working at Longhill Beach on her first assignment to protect a judge that has been receiving death threats. The judge’s daughter, Emily, was murdered in 1982, and this murder has never been solved. Who fathered Emily’s child? Who murdered Emily? What does any of this have to do with the current death threats?

I loved this audiobook and I couldn’t stop listening to it. The story was very engaging – especially Emily’s story. The book alternated chapters been 1982 and present day. There is a scary cult in the modern times story that kept me enjoyed. I really wanted to know how it would all end. I didn’t put all of the pieces together until just before it was solved on the page. I was still surprised by many elements.

Bit of a slow read, but nonetheless intriguing and gripping. I love a dual POV when it's done as well as this where they run alongside each other and complement each other well. I'm only a little disappointed with the ending, as I just got through 300+ pages and one plotline has yet to be resolved. A part of it was resolved, but at the time time, it feels like that one kind of fizzled out quickly. Granted, the stuff that took over was fascinating as hell, and it's clearly setting up for a third book, but if I went through all of that just to have no real resolution, I feel a wee bit stiffed. Also there was one detail I actually remembered from very early in the book that ended up being a complete red herring thrown away with one slapdash line at the end. Still a good read overall.

Another Karin Slaughter win! Girl, Forgotten was a great book. I loved the continuation of characters from Pieces of Her. I listened to the audio book and the narration and pacing were on point. Karin Slaughter is an automatic buy author for me!

1982 in Longbill Beach, Maryland, pregnant Emily Vaughn heads to her senior prom, ostracized by her peers she is not going to let them off easy. Unfortunately, Emily never made it home after being violently attacked.
Forty years later, and Emily’s murder still remains a mystery. When US Marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in town for her very first assignment, she has a vested interest in Emily’s case. Investigating on the sly, she’s soon knee deep in it, when the case she’s investigating starts to overlap Emily’s, Andrea is determined to not only solve her own case, but to finally figure out who killed Emily Vaughn even if it kills her.: Voiced by Kathleen Early, this was a tale that made the fifteen hour audio go by quite swiftly. Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for an ALC of this book.
