Turning in her disabled father, an ex-cop, for his role in covering up a murder from two decades ago, has left detective Annalisa Vega someone not quite trusted by her fellow officers. However, a new case needs to be worked on and Annalisa must trust her fellow cops. At the same time, a cold case from two decades before also has Annalisa busier than ever.

This second book in the Detective Annalisa Vega series was a captivating read. Annalisa is one determined cop. Placing herself in danger comes with the job as far as she is concerned. Just like the first book in the series, Dead and Gone, there are personal and professional relationships that are stretched to the limit in this book.

Following reading the first book, I went right on to read this one and was pulled in right from the very start. It is very easy to love Annalisa and I am moving right on to books three and four in the series, Dead and Gone and All the Way Gone.

Many thanks to Minotaur Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

When fellow police officer, Leo Hammond, is found dead, Annalisa Vega is called in to investigate. Of course, it’s always shocking when a colleague dies but what Vegan unravels and gets herself involved in is beyond what anyone expected. While investigating Leo’s murder and looking back at his career there seems to be ties to a 20 year old cold case of a young girl who was killed. Vega continues to ruffle feathers as she does what she does best, solve crimes. But will this land her in so much trouble she can’t come back from it….

I can’t believe it took me so long to finally read this one. I had read the first book of this series and enjoyed it very much. This book has a ton of twists and turns throughout and every time you think you have thinks figured out you quickly learn you don’t. There is a few storylines within the book including her family life and specifically Vegas brother who is in jail and the murder of Leo and Josie. The level of writing is very high and you really need to pay attention to fully understand all that is going on. This is a top notch thriller that I highly recommend and I won’t be waiting long to read the third book in the series.

Just a heads up that this is Book 2 in the Detective Annalisa Vega series. I would *highly* recommend reading the first one (Gone for Good) just so you can learn more about the characters and their stories. The information from the previous book will definitely help fill in some context from the storylines mentioned in this novel.
I was so excited to read/listen to this book because I longed to learn more about Annalisa's story and what happened next. I was super excited to see that Kelsey Navarro, one of my all-time favorite narrators, was going to narrate this book, too, since she did the first one. She truly brings the story to life in everything that she narrates.
This book is definitely highly recommended by me and I can't wait to read/listen to the next one in the series!

This is the second book in Joanna Schaffhausen’s Detective Annalisa Vega series and I was so excited to get this book. I first became a fan of this author when I discovered her Elle Hathaway series and I have to say I am loving this new series just as much!

I love police procedurals and this one is such a well-written one. I will say, I strongly encourage you to read the first book, Gone for Good, before picking this one up. It really will give you a better feel for the character dynamics that are in play, not only concerning Annalisa, but also a few other characters.

This particular installment really keeps you engaged and, on your toes, the entire way through. It’s a fast-paced read and I loved all the twists that are thrown our way. It’s a case where there are plenty of suspects and you aren’t sure who to trust.

Once again, Annalisa proves to be one kick-a** character – she’s tough and feisty and doesn’t take too kindly to the word “no.” I loved that her partner is her ex-husband. The banter between them is golden and I’m curious to see where this goes in the next book…I do hope there is more to this series! I am not ready to say goodbye to Annalisa just yet!

I definitely recommend this book, and this series, to all fans of police procedurals and those who enjoy a good mystery!

Long Gone by Joanna Schaffhausen was a very enjoyable read. I like this author's writing and storytelling very much. I plan to continue the series to see where the characters go next.

I received a review copy of this book from the author/publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

What happens when you've been shunned for busting your dad as a dirty cop, and then you stumble upon ANOTHER ring of dirty cops? Do you do the right thing and investigate? Or do you try and salvage your reputation and ignore it? This is a story of revenge, family, alliances, forgiveness, and healing. When the third book in the series came out, I had realized I had missed this one. So glad and I went back and caught up. Annalisa Vega has flaws, but she is a character to root for. Recommended.

I normally love detective series, but this one didn't grab me the way I expected it to. In order to review Long Gone I first listened to Gone For Good, so I was able to binge these two books back-to-back. I enjoyed Gone For Good and was excited to see where Annalisa went after the ending, but Long Gone just didn't stick with me. I read a lot of these books, so I might just be burnt out, but it didn't feel fresh. I might read the third one just because I like to finish what I start, but I'll wait to see some reviews first.

I seem to be an outlier based on the other Goodreads reviews that pop up at the top of my page. Fans of Joanna Schaffhausen are loving this one!

After turning in her own brother for murder, Chicago Detective Annalise Vega must try to solve a murder of another detective. But her family and fellow officers don't trust her and won't cooperate,
Good detective story- the second in a series. I'll be sure to read the first in the series.
I was given an ARC of this novel by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The audiobook was very well done. The narrator did a great job. I thought the book itself was just ok. Enjoyable, but just an average detective read.

*Thank you @dreamscape_media for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Review not posted to Amazon/Goodreads because less than 4 stars or DNF.*

I love how Det. Vega has grown in the 2nd book and there is a happy ending for her. This book kept me in its grasp until the very end! There were a few twists that I didn't see coming and that's my favorite! I def can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!

This book is just as good as #1 in this series. Although I do believe you could listen/read this book as a stand-alone it doesn’t go over the entire first book but it talks about enough that you can understand what all happened regarding Annalisas past to figure out the events of the present and what’s continuing into this second book. Both number one and two books at compelling mysteries. Yes I was able to guess the murders correctly didn’t take away the enjoyment out of the book. I enjoy how she creates characters who are vivid, flawed and compelling I feel as if I know them personally. Her twists and turns are the perfect amount not to over the top and just enough to enjoy the excitement. I definitely recommend s this book/audiobook.

A solid detective novel. I think i liked the first a bit more but this was a good one too. I thought it was kinda hard to keep up with at times with so many characters and a bit predictable. I would have liked a case that didn’t seem like just a bunch of corrupt cops

Desperate to protect her friend from a murderer, Detective Annalise Vega must take increasingly risky chances to untangle the secrets around her.

Overall I really enjoyed this police procedural thriller. It was compelling, and while I did have both the physical and audiobook copy, which I read simultaneously, I really enjoyed and preferred the audio to keep me engaged with the story, which was narrated by Kelsey Navarro.

*many thanks to Minotaur and Macmillan Audio for the gifted copy for review

I may be stretching it with 4 stars, more like 3.5. I really enjoyed the first book in the series "Gone for Good", but this book didn't live up to my expectations. Annalisa is a bit too rouge to find the plot believable. I haven't decided yet if I will continue with the series. I want to thank Netgalley and Dreamscape for the opportunity to review the audiobook.

Reading Between the Wines book review #86/135 for 2022:
Rating: 4 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: Long Gone (Detective Annalisa Vega #2)
Author: Joanna Schaffhausen
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Available now!

Sipping thoughts: Book 2 and Annalisa Vega is on the prowl again. Because of what people saw as a betrayal to her family and police department, being a good cop and trying to investigate murders are not easy for Vega. She is trying to investigate a fellow detective’s death, but she does not know who to trust as everyone around her has been lying or turning their backs on her. This book does not have a huge mystery to it as the murderers are laid out in the beginning. However, there is one smaller mystery that needs to be uncovered and Vega will stop at nothing to do so.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @DreamscapeMedia for an advanced copy of @GoneForGood.

Long Gone is a procedural/mystery about a killer targeting a group of cops connected to a cold case from over 20 years ago.
If you’re looking for a good, solid mystery thriller, with some police procedural tossed in, it’s a great next entry in this series. It can be read alone, but I think you’ll get far more enjoyment out of it if you’ve read the first book and get to know the characters and backstory. I read on my Kindle and listened to the audiobook narrated by Kelsey Navarro, who did a fabulous job with all the voicing, though initially it seemed all the male cop characters sounded the same - a bit like ‘40s gangsters. I adjusted and it was all good!

A good solid detective story with interesting characters and a good plot. I was not a huge fan of the audiobook narrator, who I felt was a little overly dramatic, but I eventually got past that and still really enjoyed the story and would read another book by this author for sure!

A compelling thriller that I absolutely loved on audio narrated by one of my favs, Kelsey Navarro!! New to me author Joanna Schaffhausen won me over with this unputdownable thriller full of twists and thrills. While this is the second book in a series it did work as a standalone, which I appreciated a lot having not read the first book. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thoroughly enjoyable.

This novel is compelling. I did not know the writer, nor any of the characters in the story, or stories. There are so many complexities to the stories, that I found myself happily going back to find snippets or chapters that I thought had important information in them. Then I would just continue listening from where I backed up to, just because in every listen, the story became richer, more details stood out. This is not a one murder story but about a family and a series of secrets, discovered in the first book, which enrich this story. I probably won't go back to read or listen to the first book because of how genuinely good this story is. It brings together so many past and current crimes and so many injuries, physical and spiritual. It's just phenomenal. I will be reading all future stories.

It is exciting to find a writer with so much depth and focus and story telling skills.

The narrator is amazing. She is the voice of Annalisa Vega.
