The Perfect Assassin by James Patterson and Brian Sitts is a new take on an old character.

"Professor Brandt Savage is content teaching his classes and ordering takeout. Until one day while walking home he is thrown in the back of a van and taken to a fortress-like apartment. His kidnapper is determined to turn him into a different man - pushing him past any limitations he thought he had. "Why" , he thinks. But his kidnapper has big plans for his new powers."

It's always interesting to see a new story on an old character. Doc Savage was a superman-like hero since the 30's and 40's. I can still see those pulp-fiction paperbacks on my dad's bookshelves. Brandt is the grandson of Doc Savage. There's another connection - but no spoilers.

Sitts and Patterson have written a fast-paced action thriller. Brandt and his kidnapper have some interesting interactions. And you can almost believe that someone could train to correct their vision (who wouldn't love that) and grow muscles tough enough to repel bullets. The final sequence is crazy.

Fun,escapist novel from Patterson and Sitts

The Perfect Assasssin is the first installment of a new series. It is fabulous! I won’t give a summary of the plot, but suffice it to say it is a tension filled mystery! Brian Sitts’ execution is brilliant! and clever. The reader queries the mystery until the very end, It is sci-fi ( which I don’t usually read,) but I could not put this book down!! Very unique story plot, thrilling climax, and a very satisfying ending! I can’t wait for the next installment!

Things started out slowly, but, thankfully, the pace picked up as the story unfolded. The characters are fun, and this is a quick read. I enjoyed the alternating time frames. Some plot points felt forced and/or unbelievable. Not my favorite, but an okay read overall.

I have always been a James Patterson fan. In this thriller he teams up with Brian Sitts, and there is no departure from his usual compelling storytelling. Brandt Savage is a midwestern anthropology professor and his life is less than interesting. He is about to begin a sabbatical with plans to search for fossils, when he is kidnapped off the street by a woman known as "Mead" and thrown into an intense training program. Why him? Who is she? What is the end game? When it all takes off the story is a twisty, intense, satisfying adventure. I will look for another with these characters.

Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read this book and offer an honest review.

I've read many books by James Patterson and have enjoyed them all. Now he's added Brian Stitts and this one was no different. Fast paced, and easy to follow along with characters I've come to know and love. His books grab you and keep you wanting to read more. I highly recommend this book.

I confess that simply seeing the name Patterson attracted me. I find his books, even the ones he has phoned in to someone else to finish. This book had a slow start, but about half way through things got moving and it was a lot me fun to read. Patterson always has entertaining characters and his detectives here are pretty fun.
This is one of those potato chip books, its tasty so I read it fast.

The Perfect Assassin is not perfect. Going back and forth between the past and the present was tedious. I did not like the characters. Granted there are some interesting scenarios, but overall I did not enjoy this novel. And that's a shame as I usually enjoy Patterson books.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

4.5 ⭐
First time I've read these authors and based solely on The Perfect Assassin, I feel fairly confident saying at least one of these authors will write more NY Times bestsellers than anyone. Just a hunch. With the bookkeeping out of the way, I loved The Perfect Assassin. Dr. Brandt Savage is a professor of Anthropology and appears to be as dorky as you would expect. Savage is looking forward to playing in the dirt during his sabbatical but before he can don his overalls he is kidnapped off the street. by a beautiful woman, Meed. What follows is a fast paced thriller with incredible characters, fun dialogue, and a story just weird enough to keep you on your toes.

There was very little I didn't like about The Perfect Assassin. Patterson and Sitts take a familiar trope and turn it on its head. I'm not sure who the perfect assassin is referring to considering there is a smorgasbord of elite assassins in the book. There is a vagueness in The Perfect Assassin that works to the story's advantage. Not to mention someone gets "Mr. Myagi-ed" which is always fun.

The Perfect Assassin is a perfect beginning of a new series with oodles of potential. I can't wait to see what these 'new authors" have in store for Savage and Meed.

My sincere thanks to James Patterson and Brian Sitts, Grand Central Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a galley of The Perfect Assassin.

Dr. Brandt Savage, the grandson of Doc Savage, is about to go on a sabbatical from the University of
Chicago but instead finds himself kidnapped and hustled into a dark van. He has no clue who would want to kidnap him but he is going to find out soon that nothing is what he thinks it is.

Savage has become the student. And his professor is demanding to say the least.

The book bounces back and forth from his captors’ childhood and training to the present, where Savage is having some intense training sessions. Physically and mentally challenging. He still has no clue why he’s being bulked up and made mission-ready. Until they go back to where she was trained and he learns who she is and why she needs him.

This one was interesting. The only issue I had was that I had just finished a book that was almost identical to the first fourth of the book. But I’ll continue to read them!

Once again this is unlike any other story I have read and that makes it all that much more interesting when you don't know the ending and can't really tell from the beginning what is going to happen and where the story is going to take you. I love reading James Patterson books because of that fact, they are all different and you can't guess where they are going to go!

Dr. Savage is on sabbatical from the University of Chicago. He had put in for his time to be approved and had not.heard anything about it until all the sudden one day it is approved and it starts immediately. When he is on his way out, he is captured and taken to a place that is very interesting. Dr. Savage has no idea why he is being taken captive or what his captor might want with him.

When Dr. Savage is put in this cage that his captor keeps him in, he knows that he is not going to be able to escape it. As soon as he gets to the captors place, he is put through some rigorous tests to find out his capabilities and where Meed needs to start training him. The things that Meed tells him he is going to be capable of blows Dr. Savages mind and he thinks there is no way possible that he will be able to do that. Meed makes these nasty green drinks for Dr. Savage to drink and there is no choice of whether he wants to drink them or now. He has to.

The whole time Meed is training Dr. Savage and conditioning him to be able to do these certain tasks, you ask yourself what she is doing and what she is training him for., Meed does not give Dr. Savage many chances to learn things about her and her past, so it is just a guessing game. Meed herself is a very fit person and can take care of herself if needed.

This story will keep you guessing as to what is going to happen and what is going on. I couldn't put it down and was anxious to find out what was really going on. This is a great read that I am sure everyone will love. I highly recommend this read!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author's for an advanced copy of this book.

The Perfect Assassin was another fast-paced, exhilarating book by James Patterson. This was such a fun, thrilling novel by the prolific master author and collaborator Brian Sitts.. The characters and concept are new but based on a long-ago action hero, Doc Savage, with the appropriate sci-fi twists. Rev up your imagination for this thrilling ride! Looking forward to more in this series.

Thanks to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the opportunity to read this entertaining ARC.

An okay read. Not up there with my favorite Patterson novels. Reads well with an interesting but not plausible plot.

A fun read, gripping and very interesting, in a new series by Patterson with a bit of a SciFi touch. Kira is one of thousands who were taken as babies and raised to be assasins. She manages to escape at 18 and is forever being sought by the group from which she escaped.
She and Doc Savage, a college professor who she kidnaps and trains to be an all powerful
fighter, as she is, team up to try to free kidnapped kids being taken for the indoctrination program that she managed to escape from.
Non stop action. thrills, totally unexpected twists and turns with the famous Patterson short chapters.
Very enjoyable.
Ready now, for book 2👍

Thank you netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

I really enjoyed this story. Think spy novel mixed with some Black Widow type origin story. It progressed well and wasn’t repetitive. The characters were well done also. Looking forward to if this will be a series with the two main characters I’ve grown attached to.

One of the best books I read! A mild mannered professor is abducted off the street and his entire life is turned around by his captor. The things he learns are so foreign to him from his previous life, which as the readers are brought along just like he is.

Someone steals babies and raises them as cold stone assassins in Russia. Mead was stolen from her parents, but she was raised in a compound where she learned 007 stuff. As an adult, she wants revenge on the “school” and she enlists the help of a local college professor. Pretty good read that I enjoyed.

Really enjoyed this story. When Meed/Kira creates a superhero out of a mild-mannered college professor, you wonder, “Why?” Soon we find out, and now we can look forward to addition installments in this new series.
