3.5 ⭐️ Second chance / rockstar romance

You ever just want to jump into a book and trap two people in a room together? That’s how I felt with Hollis and Lily. They go through so much together starting in high school and continue to doubt each other at every turn. When they’re together though their chemistry is off the charts. Miscommunication happens so easily and although I dislike the trope I love how real it is and how they overcome it. I also really loved how supportive Lily’s dad was no matter what happened. ❤️

“The chaos of a concert is magical. Music echoing through the room, hundreds—thousands—of people all together for the same reason, passion coming out of their pores, and a haze above the crowd that only the combination of sweat and smoke can create.”

Picture an early 2000’s angsty pop punk / emo song - this it that book 🖤

•High School Sweethearts
•Second - Chance
•Rockstar Romance
•Dual POV

Hollis and Lily come from two different walks of life, but that doesn’t stop them from an epic love story starting at 16. What Lily never saw coming, was that Hollis would break her heart into pieces.

10 years later, and neither of them have been able to repair the heartache, but can they make it work after all this time, all the changes, and all they’ve dealt with separately?

I’m a sucker for a good rockstar romance! With references to Taking Back Sunday, A Day to Remember, and Mayday Parade, my bleeding emo heart couldn’t have been more in love. Lily and Hollis are chaos, they are tortured souls, and they have a love that is unmatched. Once I got my hands on this book, I couldn’t put it down. I smiled with them, cried with them, and wanted so bad to keep reading, but not wanting their story to end

This is my first of this author- and I’m definitely going to read her other books now.

TW - self harm, depression, alcoholism, abuse, domestic violence, drug use.

Two people are meant to be, but due to choices, they take their time getting there. I enjoyed the book; both Hollis and Lily have had difficult childhoods. In their teens, they have each other. Ten years after a difficult break up they reunite. The trust is broken, and events have happened. Can they get past the hurt caused?

In a story told with flashbacks, the pace is slow at times, but overall a good read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

I think I would have liked this better if the past chapters were all up front. There was a lot going on. Possibly too much happening all at the same time.
I think this kind of romanticised the act of cutting, and it would be good if there were helpline numbers attached for anyone this might trigger.
The romance element was good, but also it felt like Lily was stringing Hollis along a bit.
Why put in bit about how disappointed she was that he was keeping things from her as teens, and it also feels like his reticence to share was a reason she cut herself, and then have her be as secretive as an adult?
I’m not sure I’m completely sold on the romance. I enjoyed Kenzie as a character. The plot was a bit jumpy for me though.
I received a copy of this via NetGalley, and all opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Leah Parker for this eARC. I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

This book tells the story of Hollis and Lily. Two people who’ve went from friends, to lovers, to ‘enemies’. They were high school sweet hearts who had a bad breakup roughly 10 years before “present day” in the book.

Hollis is now the front man in a popular band and lily is on track to becoming a Vet. Lots of ups and downs lead them to where they are now, but will Lily ever trust Hollis again? Should she?

This was a pretty good read. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5/5 stars was because it was a little slow to read story wise and the ending kind of just bum rushes you a little.

Letters & Lyrics is an dual POV, flashback filled, angsty second chance romance that follows childhood sweethearts Hollis and Lily’s lives as they make their way back to each other after 10 years. Their story is filled with so much hurt and anger, but had a very satisfying ending.
