I haven’t read the first book in this series but i was able to fly through this book without having any problems. I’m planning on checking that one out too though.
It’s little slow burn but not too slow to follow up with and it picks up and you get a lot more invested in the story. It was an enjoyable read and I wasn’t able to guess who did it so that’s a bonus point haha
You should check it out and give it a chance!

This was the second in the series and I haven’t read the first, but it was easy to catch up on the basics of the story to follow along.

It started a little slow, but by the middle of the book I was really into the mystery of it.

It’s an easy whodunnit kind of book, the kind you’d see as a Hallmark mystery, but if (like me) that’s your sort of thing, you’ll like it.

Misha Popp's follow-up to MAGIC, LIES, AND DEADLY PIES does not disappoint. In this Pies Before Guys mystery, Daisy is competing in a baking competition that requires all contestants to stay in a mansion together. Daisy has a couple of pie deliveries to make on her road trip south, but is surprised to see that one of the judges is due to receive a pie from her on her return to Massachusetts. It's not long before mysterious goings-on begin and Daisy takes it upon herself to investigate. Secret passages, overheard conversations, and communication shut downs lead to a tame thriller with a satisfying conclusion. Anyone who enjoyed the first book will love the second installment of Pies Before Guys.

I was super excited to read this once I got my hands on a copy of it. I was even more excited when I saw that it is apart of a series. I flew through the first book, loved it, and was so ready to start this one.
I absolutely LOVE how this book was set up, murder mysteries, cooking shows, strong female leads, literally all of my favorite tropes all wrapped together in one book.
Daisy's trek through this book was so good, I love how she was herself throughout the entire book. She didn't hold herself back from doing what she wanted to do even though people told her otherwise. I loved seeing her defend herself, her peers and her opinions, it was honestly amazing.

When I first had this approved to read and review, I was a little hesitant as I typically do not read books out of order in a series, but I felt like it read as a stand-alone, and the author did a good job referencing events from the 1st book while bringing it to the present. I was excited to read this one as I do enjoy to watch the Food Network and Great British Bake-off. While I did enjoy feeling part of the televised bake off, I felt like it lacked interest at times and seemed repetitive. This was definitely a cozy foodie murder that an avid baker or lover of desserts that I’m sure will devour. I did think the recipes at the end were a cute touch.

Not to lead with a pun, but I absolutely DEVOURED this book! It was the perfect balance of magical realism and cozy mystery to me, and I loved the way it played out. Reading it was truly like watching a season of "The Great Canadian Baking Show" (but with a double homicide). I thought the whole book felt super fresh and new, and it kept me guessing until the last page.

I hadn't read the first book in this series, and while the context would have been nice I truly don't think I missed anything integral by reading this one first. I wasn't confused at all. Now, that said, I definitely want to go back and read the first one!

Overall, a highly enjoyable read!

O livro me passa vibes de Agatha Christie encontra Master Chef, então no primeiro momento eu fiquei bem perdida com a introdução dos personagens. Depois que eu me familiarizei com todos, ficou mais fácil de engatar na leitura.
As vezes, a gente espera uma m*rt3 no livro, mas nesse encontramos duas e também a possibilidade do 4ss4ss1no ser qualquer um dos personagens. Eu gostei bastante do desenrolar da história e de como a Daisy pegou pra si a responsabilidade da investigação.
Minha nota final foi 3.5 pq sim. Mentira, foi pq quanto mais eu lia, mas previsível foi saber quem era o culpado!

I really should have read the first book before starting this one, as it was a bit confusing. I think it could have been a higher rating, had I paid attention and done so. But it was still a really fun book to read. I love the concept of competitive baking turning into a murder mystery! It is such a fun and unique concept, which is something that is lacking from so many books these days. I am going to go back and read the first book now, because not only do I think I will love it, but I think it will make this one make much more sense.

A funny and enjoyable read in this series. I enjoyed the story and the characters very much. Will recommend for sure!!

This one was pretty good! I definitely should read the first one and then try this one out again because I feel like I might enjoy it more, but it was overall a relatively enjoyable read.

Fun, light, lots of baking. This is a good follow-up to the first book, but I still struggle with the morals of the main character and how she justifies some of her problematic behavior. For this one, I also struggled with how the mystery was solved as there was a lot of pie magic involved and not as much amateur sleuthing and deduction as I normally like in my cozy mysteries.

Recommended for readers who like Pushing Daisies, Great British Bake Off, and more than a sprinkle of magic.

I want to preface this review by mentioning that I made a mistake... I didn't realize this book was part of a saga so I read this one first. I believe this might have impacted my reading experience but, I quite enjoyed this book (and I promise to read the first one asap).

A Good Day to Pie follows Daisy while she enters a culinary reality show (The British Bake Off style), but when things get an unexpected turn, Daisy has to discover who's causing trouble before her side business it's suspected.

Let me start by saying: I love this book. It's interesting, it's fresh, it's new. Basically, a perfectly cooked pastry. The story's the perfect match between a reality show and a murder mystery.

This type of tv show is my cup of tea and seeing this format in a book was delightful. I love getting to know the characters and trying to discover who the winner will be. But, that wasn't the only thing I was trying to discover because this book also features a mystery, and I love it!

The only "negative" comment I could make about A Good Day to Pie it's that the first pages and challenge descriptions felt a bit repetitive (a character does good, another do bad and someone hit it off the park). But as long as the mystery is consolidated and the main character turns herself to discover the truth everything it's quite perfect.

This book hooked me up and it's one I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a mystery with a side of fun.

I read an Advanced Reader’s Copy via NetGalley, so this one won’t be out until February 2023. This is the second in a series, but I was able to jump in and enjoy this one without having read the first. Our protagonist Daisy is a magical baker (literally) who has more in common with Dexter than you’d expect. I enjoyed this one much more than I thought I would; it’s cute and quirky and a fast-paced read. It’s also cleverly set during a reality competition akin to the Great British Bake-off, which propels the action and gives us some familiar reality archetypes. I loved this writing choice as it kept the action moving and gave us plenty of character moments. A die-hard mystery lover might find the whodunnit on the backburner a bit too many times, but I personally love mysteries where there is something else happening and we’re not just in murderland with the characters 🤷🏻‍♀️ This was a fun read that helped break up some heavier books.

Weird read. Almost DNF'd it multiple times and still unsure of how I feel about it as I write this. Wasn't horrid, wasn't fantastic. Was just weird.

I do think A Good Day to Pie -could- be read as a stand-alone but I think it was better to read Magic, Lies and Deadly pies first.

I absolutely adored this series! The idea of secret murder pies filled with magic that take down the worst kind of men was absolutely a perfect plot for me. Daisy is a charming character and there are so many great side characters, especially Frank!

A very funny book but I didn’t read the first one so sometimes I was very confused. I recommend reading the previous book first, that’s what I will do. Maybe if I will like the first one, I will try again reading this book, maybe it will be different.

A Good Day to Pie follows Daisy--who is, as she says, for all intents and purposes a serial killer--as she competes in a cooking show. But she only kills men who truly deserve it, which means she would never even think of killing one of the other contestants. One of the judges, on the other hand, is on her list, and she has to face a couple weeks of filming knowing everything he's done... and knowing that as soon as filming wraps, she'll be delivering the pie that'll take his life.
Over the next few weeks of the cooking show, Daisy bakes her heart out--and tries to figure out who the other murderer on set is.

A Good Day to Pie is funny, with great characters, a fantastic voice, and lots of fun little twists and turns along the way. I found myself wanting to know more about the cooking show itself, at times--it glossed over some of the competitions and referenced them later-- but over all it's an absolutely delightful book that I've already recommended to a few people.

This was another fun trip into the world of Daisy, a piemaker who also murders abusive men with magical pies. After successfully taking down a blackmailer in the previous book, Daisy is looking forward to participating in a Great British Bake Off-style TV show (with a couple murderous stops along the way). When she discovers one of the judges is on her next-to-die list, and another contestant turns up dead, Daisy has to do some detective work. This book was just as enjoyable as the first, but because of the premise, it sometimes felt like GBBO fanfic. I also missed Noel, the love interest from the first book, because he was barely in this one! Overall, I really like this series and am looking forward to the next.
