I received an ARC of this intriguing mystery by a top-notch author through NetGalley.

The mystery involves a missing person, a wife and mother of three children. Is she dead or alive? Was it the doing of her husband? Will she be found? If not the husband, who else could it be? If alive, why would she leave?

The book is divided into sections, each with a different narrator. The first section is narrated by a lawyer-turned-author suffering from writer's block. At first, I thought this was a foreword by the author but then realized it was the beginning of the book! The next section is narrated by Jane, the missing wife/mother, spoken from heaven(?). Then the middle child, a son, narrates, followed by the husband.

The character development of all the family members is well executed. Dad, the hotshot, cocky lawyer. Mom, the loving lady holding the family together. The oldest son, a superstar with a super ego. The second son, a good soul living in the shadow of two alpha males (his father and older brother). Finally, the daughter, a sweetheart beloved by the entire family.

This goes down as the hardest book to put down that I've read this year. This author has a knack for drawing his reader in and not letting go. A terrific mystery.

All That Is Mine I Carry With Me ~ by William Landry, is certainly a book that I will carry with me for a long time. I cannot stop thinking about this book. In fact, I am sad and I am also angry. This book shows the unfairness of life. How some people thrive through misfortune, and how some people will suffer their whole lives.

This story focuses on the disappearance of Jane Larkin. Jane Larkin disappeared on November 12, 1975. Jane was the wife to the pompous, arrogant criminal defense attorney, Dan Larkin. Jane was also the mother to three children, Alex, Jeff, and Miranda. We mainly read about Miranda and Jeff’s lives, and how the disappearance of their mother affected them. Miranda being the youngest and the only girl in the family, definitely took losing her mother the hardest. Throughout this story we don’t hear too much about the oldest son Alex, other than the fact that he turned out to be just like his father.

This story is broken down into four ‘Books’. In Book Two, we get to hear Jane’s story. Her story doesn’t come as a big surprise or shock, but the way her family has to deal with life after her is heartbreaking. I went through so many emotions while reading this. I also have to say that I can totally relate to Jeff Larkin. I think he ended up being the smartest one.

I do not want to go into too much more without giving the whole book away. I will say to read this book, and then think about it for a while (it will be hard not to think about it). With that being said, I also highly recommend reading this book because you will carry it with you for a long time after reading it.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine-Bantam, and the author for the advanced copy of this wonderful book. Publication date: March 7, 2023.

Quite possibly one of the best mysteries of the year! Landay has written a heartfelt page turner about a family torn apart by the the possible murder of the mother. Told from multiple viewpoints in a style that whisks the plot along to an emotional conclusion. If you enjoyed Defending Jacob, and who didn't, this is a must for your shelf. Should be up for an Edgar Award. I cannot wait to handsell it!

I wanted to like this so badly. I loved Defending Jacob and was so excited that Landay had a new book coming out. But this was disappointing.

When young Miranda comes home from school to find her mother missing, her father is the obvious suspect. But there is no evidence, not even a body.

The book is separated into 4 perspectives: A friend of the family writing a book, the missing mother, the younger brother and then the father.

I looked up some reviews while reading because it was going to slowly and I was bored. I kept seeing people mention a huge twist at the end, similar to Defending Jacob. While I can certainly see the similarities due to the outcome, there was nothing twisty about it. The mystery is solved very early in the book and it is completely spelled out for you. The rest just seemed unnecessary.

2.5 stars

First, let me say thank you to Random House and NetGalley for providing access to this spectacular novel.

I was so excited to hear that William Landay had written another novel after 'Defending Jacob'. It was with great anticipation that I started 'All That is Mine I Carry With Me'. It was with something close to obsession that I continued with it. I could not put it down because it drew me in from the start. It is literary fiction, a page-turner, a thriller and a whodunit. The character development is superb and the method Landay uses to tell the narrative is perfect - it is told from different perspectives and in different timeframes.

The novel starts out with a writer who is friends with Jeff, a member of the Larkin family. He wants to write a book about the disappearance of Jane Larkin and to do so, he needs to interview the members of the family. Jane Larkin's disappearance was first page news in Boston. She fed her children breakfast, bid them goodbye and was never seen again. The police investigation centers on her husband, Dan Larkin, a narcissistic lawyer who fancies himself a dandy. He is an unlikable character and it is easy to think of him as a murderer but there is no body, no evidence and no witnesses. I won't say more about the plot because I want all readers to have the same enjoyment I had as I turned page after page.

The Larkins have three children - Alex, Miranda, and Jeff. Alex is the oldest and the son every father wants. He is great at sports and a good student. He is in high school when his mother disappears. Jeff is next oldest, a few years behind Alex. He is not particularly athletic and does not stand out in his private school like his brother did. Miranda, called Mimi, by the family, is the youngest. She is emotionally frail and the trauma of losing her mother nearly breaks her. She struggles with depression and most likely Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

One of the most interesting characters is Detective Glover, who Miranda takes an immediate liking to. He is in charge of the case and does everything in his power to solve the crime. The relationship between Detective Glover and Miranda is a tender one, one that is lasting.

Kate is Jane's sister and she does not like Dan Larkin. She wishes that Kate would leave him and move on with her life.

The mysterious Dan Larkin is a defense lawyer who will pull out any stops at hand to get his client off. Whether he does something that is considered close to illegal is not of interest to him. He is flashy and determined, a man in love with himself. He is so fastidious that he thoroughly washes out the sink after the dishes are done. He wears custom made suits and spends money like there's no tomorrow.

The protagonist of the book, in my opinion, is Jeff, the younger son. He is the lost child, the one who is standing in the shadows of his older brother, a person with no real ambition. He is close with Mimi but he keeps Alex at arm's distance.

This is a book about doubt and trust, belief and betrayal. It is very well-written and the characters all came alive for me. I love books that are propelled by great characterization and this one is. The question of whether Jane was murdered takes a close second seat to the inner lives of the characters. I highly recommend this book. It is a sterling read.

Jeff, Miranda and Alex didn’t have the best childhood. Growing up without their mother wasn’t easy. One day she was there...next she vanished with no explanation. What made it down-right horrific was that their father, Dan Larkin, is under the spotlight as prime suspect for murdering her.

Beautifully written from multiple POV, you witness the effects of the tremendous weight on the children and how it shapes them moving forward.

Will the killer come to justice? And what will that justice look like?

A slow-burn of a novel, but I was completely enthralled from beginning to end. I loved a previous book by this author Defending Jacob and immediately wished for this book as soon as I saw it. And yes, this book was equally captivating!

A buddy read with Susanne!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine for granting my wish!🧞‍♀️

When this book becomes a movie, and I just know it will, I will be the first in line to watch it. Mr Landay is an epic storyteller. This book will inspire the armchair detective in you as you get lost in the intricacies of what happened to Jane Larkin.

Jane Larkin disappeared on November 12, 1975. She was 39 years old. Her daughter, Miranda, came home from school to find her mother gone. Where did she go? Why would she leave her family? Will she come back? It seems that some people want to blame her father, but why would he be involved?

The disappearance of Jane has fractured this family and everyone has differing thoughts on where she could be. The dialogue between the family members is realistic enough to make you feel as though you’re right there with them trying to solve the mystery.

The character development is flawless. I felt their heartbreak, their anger, their confusion and their need for answers. Each of Jane’s children has a distinct personality and their lives are shaped by this tragic event. Miranda suffers from depression, Jeff drinks too much and chooses to live as far away from home as possible and Alex is just accepting of the fact that his mother will never return and he’ll never truly know what happened to her.

This book is amazing down to the very last page. It will certainly give you something to think about long after you’ve finished the book. I give All That Is Mine I Carry With Me 5 stars and have already started recommending it to others. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this amazing book. This is my honest review.

All That Is Mine I Carry with Me is William Landay's long-awaited novel, coming ten years after his popular best seller Defending Jacob. Told from the perspective of multiple characters over a span of several decades, it is a suspenseful family drama that unfolds with a quiet intensity, and slowly builds to an ending so shocking I never saw it coming. William Landay just gets better with each book he writes. If you enjoyed Defending Jacob, or any of his earlier books, you will absolutely love All That Is Mine. 5++ stars.

Thank you to Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine-Bantam and NetGalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

WOW…. William Landay can write a story! I was totally engrossed in this book from the start and I stayed interested throughout. Landay does a fantastic job writing about how each family member adjusts to life after mom goes missing, is presumed dead, and dad is suspected of murdering her. Years go by and no body is located and no charges are filed. Dad is a creep, to be sure, but is he a murderer? Landay writes a suspenseful novel, sharing perspectives from each child’s view, the family dynamics at play, and the belief in dad’s guilt and/or innocence. It’s a fascinating tale, perfectly written, with a very satisfying ending.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.

ALL THAT IS MINE I CARRY WITH ME
BY: WILLIAM LANDAY

FIVE PLUS STARS!

I have waited TEN YEARS for this INCREDIBLY TALENTED AUTHOR, WILLIAM LANDAY to write another book, which is my FAVORITE Author, stunned me with his powerful writing, Again! Do you remember the GREAT and UNFORGETTABLE book called, "Defending Jacob?" Well, I am here to tell you that, his newest novel is called, "ALL THAT IS MINE I CARRY WITH ME," is absolutely STUNNING and BRILLIANT, as well. To say that I enjoyed it is an understatement, because I LOVED THIS ONE, also! It is the kind of novel that draws you in in the first paragraph and doesn't let you go until you have read the very last word.

Time stood still for me as I read this EQUALLY as a compelling novel. I forgot all about time and didn't realize that I skipped lunch and dinner, because I was so hypnotized by both the characters and the plot. I feel as though I was in reading heaven, and I am so sad that I read it in one sitting. I know that my anticipation and expectations for this novel was sky high and, WOW William Landay you have struck me with your latest novel to be one heck of the best way to end this book! I think that you excel in leaving me shocked by your grand finale of an ending once again!

This is suspense written by Mr. Landay, who is writing at the top of his game. I hope that you won't make me wait so long for your next book. As I started to say in my previous sentence, that the suspense keeps ratcheting up higher and higher. I would read anything that this super talented Author writes. I don't want to spoil it for all of you lucky readers who have this to look forward to reading.

Miranda is the youngest child and about eleven years old. when she comes home after school and can't find her mother. Her mother is a lovely stay at home mom. She has two older brothers' who by the time her father gets home they see no sign of a struggle, her pocket book is still in her mother's bedroom. The husband and father is a top Criminal Defense Lawyer and he calls the police to report her missing.

That's all I am going to say. The family will be tested as one day turns into two then weeks turn into years. The synopsis gives more than enough information and the Author gives a clue, but I truly believe that the less that you know the greater to enjoy this FANTASTIC novel. I have to read this Mega-talented Author's first two books. I don't know why I haven't read William Landay's first two books, but I am off to read them now, I know that they have won prizes. This book is the highlight of my year and anything else is going to pale in comparison. I am so envious of all of the readers who get to read this or "Defending Jacob," for the first time. OUTSTANDING, HAUNTING & UNFORGETTABLE!

Fans of high-intensity drama should look no further than William Landay's newest triumph, "All That Is Mine I Carry With Me." It is always a pleasure to read Landay's books filled with well-crafted characters and descriptive prose. This is the type of story that will hook readers from the beginning until the final startling reveal.

Jane Larkin, a 39 year old mother of three children, disappeared on November 12, 1975. Her youngest child, Miranda, came home to an empty house after school. Her father, Dan Larkin, an experienced criminal attorney, galvanized the local police force to search for his missing wife, Four days later the police found her unlocked 1975 Ford Thunderbird parked at a train station wiped clean of any prints. Unfortunately for the Larkin children: Alex, Jeff and Miranda, their mother would never come home.

Although Dan Larkin is suspected of killing his wife, there is no body and no motive to tie him to Jane's disappearance. And so the Larkin children muddle along until twenty years later Jane Larkin's remains are discovered by a lake. Now, the grown children must choose whether to stand by their father. This taut thriller explores family relationships and how tragedy can fracture even the strongest familial bonds.

Under the masterful hand of William Landay, we see how Alex, Jeff and Miranda carry their grief. Alex tucks it away and manages to flourish while Jeff was so wounded that "A sense of tragedy hung around him like a cloud..." And their sister Miranda wore her grief on her arm as a tattoo. Although this is a high octane thriller, it is really a story of family and the fragility of human relationships once those relationships are compromised.

Like all of Landay's other work, this book is highly recommended. Many thanks to NetGalley and Bantam Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved Defending Jacob by Landay so I was super excited to get his new novel. This is the story of the Larkin family and the mother Jane who disappears without a trace. The father is the leading suspect..but there is no evidence, only suspicion. Alex, Miranda and Jeff, the Larkin children, all struggle to understand what happened to their mother. Did she disappear on her own or was this a murder that was expertly covered up by their questionably crooked lawyer father Dan? The case goes cold, but haunts the children their whole lives until one day something is uncovered that awakens the case bringing all of the doubts and questions about their father. This was an edge of your seat read that was beautifully written in sections told in the prospective of several of the characters, including the missing Jane. I enjoyed this novel and gave it a solid 5 stars.

I was originally drawn to this book by the cover and description but when I looked at the author, I was shocked! Fans have been waiting a long time to see William Landay write another brilliant book since Defending Jacob.

I love the authors writing style, he has a gift of engaging a readers attention from the very first pages. I was entranced in this book for days; I couldn’t wait to get off work so I could curl up and immerse myself in this mystery and yell at Dan Larkin for being such a liar. #sorrynotsorry

Phil is experiencing writer’s block after publishing so many great novels. He wants his last book to be about the true story of his 7th grade friend Jeff Larkin’s mom, Jane Larkin. Jane disappeared on November 12, 1975 without a trace. Her husband, Dan, was at work while her three children; Alex, Jeff, and Miranda were at school.

We learn about the characters and how Phil remembered them as school aged children back in 1975 and revisits them when they’re adults in 2015. He wants to interview each of them about what happened back in 1975 in hopes of solving the 30 year old mystery.

Each child has grieved in their own individual ways. Had their mother left them? Did their father, Dan, kill his wife and cover it up? Did someone else kill Jane?

Every point of view pointed fingers at one person, and one person only. Could you live in a house and not trust the family member sitting beside you?

The ending felt abrupt but I feel like it gave the reader a chance to think about what was going on in Miranda’s mind after everything that had happened to her. I hope she went rouge and took it upon herself to remove a monster from the world.

Did you remember Defending Jacob ? Then you know you are in for an intense book with a twist that will take your breath away!

In All That Is Mine, we have a front row seat to a family torn apart by the disappearance of the matriarch. When Jane Larkin disappears, the 3 children are devastated and the neighbors and police have their suspicions. It's not long before the unlikely dad, Dan Larkin, moves his girlfriend and daughter in to the house.

Through multiple POV's and flashbacks we watch the family and friends try to determine what actually happened to Jane Larkin. The book is truly a nail biter to the end and I highly recommend. If you like tense thrillers, dark and emotional family stories, and of course were a fan of Defending Jacob, All That Is Mine I Carry With Me is for you!.#RandomHouse

As a big fan of Defending Jacob, I was delighted to get the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book thanks to Netgalley and the publisher. Once again, the author did an excellent job writing about a nightmarish family situation and its impact on the family. There are many issues covered which would make this book perfect for book discussion groups. The author did a fabulous job bringing the characters to life, and it was interesting to see how the events impacted each person differently. The story was very suspenseful, and I wish I could have read it nonstop. I highly recommend this book and hope the author's next will be here soon.

What happens when a woman disappears from her family without a trace? No trail to follow and no evidence, only questions and theories. Was she kidnapped, murdered or just running away? Either way the outcome is unbearable pain and suffering and loss.

One egotistical and highly suspect husband; three children each grieving in their own way; one detective doggedly pursing any and all leads for years and one suffering writer with a story finally worth telling. The story spans many years and is narrated by several of the characters and while this way of storytelling sometimes loses my attention in this book that is not the case. William Landay is such a gifted writer and storyteller that it all comes together perfectly and all you want to do is keep turning pages.

This story unfolds in such a thoughtful and fascinating way as to make it positively believable. The characters are so real in their pain and alternative their narcissism. The damage done to the children shows itself as the years go by and their mother's fate remains a mystery. Their father branded as a murderer even though there is no evidence that this is true. And of course the brilliant twist at the end.

5 stars and unputdownable for me! I've read all of William Landay's books (Defending Jacob is my favorite) and I was thrilled to see this new title on Netgally and even more thrilled to receive an ARC. Many thanks to Netgally, Bantam and William Landay for providing this book in exchange for my review.

Where does one start with a review of this magnitude? I have waited almost 9 years for another book from William Landay. "All That Is June" begins with the author telling the reader that it has been a long road to writing this book. He explains why, and how he came to the decision that this was the story he wanted to tell. This is the story of a missing mom, a dad under suspicion, and the turmoil one family faced in the years that followed with no answers. Again, Landay provided an astounding amount of character development with these characters. Even with the victim herself. You go into this book knowing what crime was committed, and who did it, only to start reading and realize maybe, just maybe, you don't really know. From the smug and arrogant attitude of Dan Larkin, to the complete lack of proof, you're really pinned in the very definition of reasonable doubt. Circumstantial case? You can't even call it that. This was a really slow burn which made it a harder read for someone like me, but there's no getting away from how amazing the story development was in this book. I am so grateful and so honored that I was able to read this book early. If I'd had to wait five months until it was released. Thank you so much Netgalley, Random House, and William Landay for this ARC.

I've been waiting for the next William Landay book for quite a while, ever since I finished Defending Jacob many years ago. Every one of his three prior books has been terrific, and DJ was his crowning achievement. I was lucky to get an ARC from Netgalley through the publisher on a random pick and was hoping not to be disappointed after all this time. Little did I know I had nothing to worry about. Another amazingly powerful, emotional, wrenching story about a family whose mother disappears in 1975 and suspicion immediately falls upon the husband and father, who vehemently denies any involvement. The family becomes divided, and loyalties are tested over the years. You feel for these people and wonder if they'll make it through the rest of their lives with their sanity intact. Their grief and anger are palpable, and Landay writes so well you'll think you're in the room with them as they struggle to come to grips with what they may never know about what happened to their mom. It's the classic "did he or didn't he" but with a lot more emotion than is normally encountered in books like this. If you haven't read Landay yet, you need to, right away. He's that good. I hope I don't have to wait another ten years for his next one. Very highly recommended. Thanks again to Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

All That Is Mine I Carry With Me refers to a tattoo on Miranda Larkin’s arm but it also refers to the emotional baggage carried by all the characters in this beautifully written, emotional gift of a novel by William Landay.

Jane Larkin’s mother disappears in 1975 and is never seen again. Left behind are her children, Alex, Jeff and Miranda and her husband Dan, a short, pompous, overconfident criminal defense lawyer who is, naturally, the primary suspect. But there is no evidence, only a devoted detective who spends his life following leads on the missing Jane. Her children, especially Jeff and Miranda, are left to grow up in a very different world from the one their mother imagined for them. They alternate between loving and suspecting their father and become irreparably damaged adults. When Jane’s remains are finally discovered, twenty years later, they have to decide how much they want the answer to what happened on that November day.

All That Is Mine I Carry With Me is much more complicated than that summary. In Part One, Jeff approaches an author, a childhood friend, and asks him to write his family story. The author, who has not written a book for years (Landay’s Defending Jacob was published ten years ago), is “uneasy about starting a book this way.” I believed that this was Landay’s own author’s note, so honestly written that it is. Part Two, I later discovered, was written by Miranda. All of the characters think they know the truth but it is deeply buried. This is a book that will stay with you long after you have finished the final page. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group and William Landay for this ARC.
