The Lost Metal is the 7th Mistborn western fantasy adventure by Brandon Sanderson. Released 15th Nov 2022 from Macmillan on their Tor/Forge imprint, it's 528 pages and is available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats. Paperback format due out 4th quarter 2023. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats.

One of the difficult things about having a huge, overarching, intricate, and long running series is the sheer intimidation of attracting new readers to the fold without scaring them off with the literal *thousands* of pages of precursor books. Luckily, Sanderson is a pretty darned gifted writer and though new readers will not have the depth of experience of the True-Fans® who are already familiar with every scintilla of the canon, neither will they be lost at sea from page 1. He manages to carry everyone along in the same boat (more or less). And what a fine boat it is. This is a fantasy western featuring a pair of adventurers and an ensemble cast of secondary partners and support staff.

The setting of this world covers, as previously stated, literally thousands of pages of stories including a trilogy, a related follow-up tetralogy (of which this is the 4th and final novel), as well as many related stories of varying length. The overall quality is impressively high. It is *full* of explosions, gunplay, and a large helping of sarcastic humor.

Although this tetralogy is self contained, it follows on the first trilogy (a few centuries later), and the author has announced a future trilogy without any definite projected publishing dates. It would make a superlative binge/buddy read.

Four and a half stars. Excellent read. Not great as a standalone, but possible.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Masterful and poignant addition to this series. I especially enjoyed the Wayne story line. What a fitting tribute to such a memorable character!

The plot : axillium Ladrian, a former lawman turned senator, has been investigating the Set, a shadowy organization whose leaders include his late uncle and sister, for years. They have been kidnapping people with Allomancy in their bloodlines. When detectives Marasi Colms and Wayne uncover stockpiled weapons headed to the Outer City of Bilming, it leads to a new investigation. The Set is taking advantage of the conflict between Elendel and the Outer Cities, and their reach now extends to the corrupt Elendel Senate. Bilming is particularly entangled in the Set's plans.

Wax discovers a dangerous new explosive that the Set may already have, and an immortal kandra reveals that Bilming is under the influence of another god, Trell, who is worshipped by the Set. Marasi is also recruited by offworlders with strange abilities who claim to want to protect Scadrial at any cost.

Wax must decide whether to put aside his strained relationship with God and become the hero Scadrial needs, or risk the planet and its inhabitants facing ruin.

Review : One of the things I loved most about the book was the number of Cosmere references scattered throughout. As a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson's work, it was a treat to see familiar elements from other books woven into the story. The ending for this era was also perfect, it was satisfying and left me wanting more of the series.

As always, Brandon Sanderson did an incredible job with world-building. The intricate details and depth of the world of Scadrial made it feel like a fully realized place. The fights scenes were also fantastic and really added to the tension and excitement of the story.

Overall, this is a must-read for fans of the Mistborn series and of Sanderson's work in general. You know what to expect from a Sanderson book, and he delivers on all fronts. The plot, characters, and world-building are all top-notch, and I can't recommend it enough.

Intriguing. There's a lot of set up to get going really quickly, along with enough reminders of what's happened for those of us who haven't reread "Bands of Mourning" recently. It's only the very beginning of the book, and we're already greeted by our familiar heroes and their interactions, detective work, social investigation and pressures, and explosive action, just as I've come to expect and enjoy from Sanderson, especially in this series.

A couple specific developments in the last book are looking to develop greatly in this one, and I'm chomping at the bit to see how Wax and the gang resolve their searches and goals, while also being excited to see how Sanderson incorporates discoveries in this entry into both the world of Scadriel and into the Cosmere at large. I will defintely be looking to buy "The Lost Metal" on release without a moment's hesitation thanks to my trust in Sanderson as an author and thanks to how things are looking to set up and play out in a way that I'm sure will throw me for a loop.

"** spoiler alert ** Perfect ending to Mistbron Era 2. Now I want Era 3, like now!

Interesting to watch Sanderson’s book slowly shift away from cosmere hints dropped in otherwise self-contained worlds, to being close to full on cosmere novels. I love it."

Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series is a key series in modern day fantasy titles, and The Lost Metal is a fine conclusion to Mistborn era 2.

While Mistborn era 1 will always have a special place on my shelves, The Lost Metal did a solid job of moving era 2 up my list of favorites.

If you are a fan of Wayne, this is a must read! There is plenty of action, mystery, a bit of romance, and emotional chaos. There is also a fair bit of info dumping, so be warned if that's not something you can get past. It is also basically mandatory to have read most of the other Cosmere books by this point in time. I did read this without reading RoW, and don't think I missed too much, but you must read the short stories and at least the first few Stormlight Archive books.

I really liked the start, but my gosh does this book drag in places. Felt like it needed about 100-150 pages shaving off. The humour didn’t work for me at all. It’s quite childish humour, and given that that’s not the target market, thought it was a bit bizarre. There’s quite a lot of exposition in this book too. This took me out of the story multiple times and made the reading experience tiring.

The things that saved it for me were the start and how quickly the world felt familiar. I also really enjoyed the two main female characters.

A mixed bag but I’m glad I read it. I’m also happy that it’s over.

I really enjoyed this excerpt of the conclusion to the Mistborn second era, and am very excited to read the rest of the book when it is released.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review!

I think I can finally talk about this book without getting emotional. To no one's surprise, I loved it. It would take a lot for me not to enjoy a Sanderson book, especially a book set in the Mistborn world. The characters from Era 1 have a special place in my heart but Wax, Wayne, and Marasi are just so fun to read!

I literally can't say anything specific because spoilers but here are my main thoughts about the Lost Metal:

-Woah, Sanderson's ability to connect to the other cosmere books is INSANE
-Can't believe all of the cameos we got
-Learning more about Allomancy and the cosmere was my favorite
-The death at the end....FUCK THAT HURT 😭😭😭
-Can't wait to see what happens in Mistborn Era 3
-I need to read Rhythm of War sooooon

I finished the full version of this and I have to say I cried my eyes out. It was so good. The characters are amazing. The story arc is amazing and it was a privilege to read a story in the world again. Thanks for the early first look!

This was only roughly 1/3 of the book but I greatly enjoyed it and immediately picked up the book upon publication and finished. It's a satisfying end to Era 2 of Mistborn, and so fun to read. Every character had a great arc and a satisfying conclusion and the adventure was an absolute page turner. Posted my full review on Goodreads.

Though this was just an excerpt of the first 10 chapters of The Lost Metal, it sets us up for a very promisingly strong conclusion to Mistborn Era 2. I loved the additional backstory we got for Wayne thus far, as well as seeing how the team have settled into their new lives and positions. I’m definitely looking forward to finishing this book!

This was just a preview of the first few chapters, but based on that much, I will definitely finish this book! This series (Mistborn, specifically Era 2) has definitely gotten more interesting with each book. I felt like the writing was quick and fun and the plot was already beginning to form in these first few pages. The new regions/characters introduced in the previous book will clearly play a role in this one and it was interesting to me. Fast-paced, funny, intriguing. 4.5/5!

Loved this book, loved the world building, loved the characters and the storytelling.
That said I strongly recommend it.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I never realized how big of a Wayne fan I was until I read this book. The fourth and final Wax and Wayne book in the Mistborn 2.0 era nicely wraps things up while also expanding the world of Mistborn into the broader Sanderson Cosmere. If you're not a Wayne fan, then this book probably isn't for you.

I finally came back to goodreads to add my review.

The Lost Metal is probably my favorite book from Mistborn Era 2.
I loved how all of the plot points came together and I truly fell in love with the characters. Wayne and Steris were by far my favorites.

The reason I shied away from giving The Lost Metal five stars is because some areas of the book felt like Sanderson was laying the groundwork for Era 3. It did not feel complete like the end of Era 1.

I also lovedd that the Cosmere was mentioned straight out. I can't wait to re-read this once I have more Cosmere books under my belt.

Thank you to Brandon Sanderson, Macmillan-Tor/Forge, Tor Books, and Netgalley for an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of "The Lost Metal" (Mistborn #7) for an honest review.

How do I even begin to talk about Sanderson's work? He continues to be one of the very best Fantasy writers of our age, writing as well as he does prolifically. As a hazard warning, if you have not read the six books before this, it's not a good place to pop into the series and it will spoil several pieces you'd be best not knowing when you got to reading those earlier books.

In the stunning last volume of Mistborn Era 2, we return to the amazing adventures of Wax and Wayne as they navigate new dangers, while in the background, the world continues to constantly propel itself further and further into the industrial future (a thing I adore paying attention to the new pieces of popping up everywhere). There is so much in here, I was laughing out loud in my bed, smiling, worrying, and even getting all misty-eyed in places, as Sanderson took all my emotions on ride for this conclusion.

You will love, love, love this book. I cannot wait for buy copies for friends/family and put one on my shelf in my classroom.

Wax and Wayne are back together for another adventure. I liked how the beginning looked into Wayne's childhood. It was fun seeing them into new earned positions, brought together again to complete a job only they can do. Trademark banter, and Wayne's exuberant humor. Left me wanting to read the full novel..
