The Lost Metal takes place six years after the events of Bands of Mourning, and a lot has happened in that time. Wax retired directly following the explosion that killed Suit and finally turned his focus to politics and senate meetings, where he still dresses up with his guns but no longer has them loaded (though that might be more because of his kids). Marasi is still with the 4th Precinct and has moved high up in the ranks with Wayne as her partner, and Wayne himself is still with MeLaan—though maybe not for much longer. All of our characters have moved on, and their world has changed in the last six years, but perhaps not enough, as tensions are still high between Elendel, the border towns, and the discovered South.

This NetGalley was only an extended excerpt (which I did not realize in my excitement), and it made me curse the three months until I can read the whole thing. There are so many threads in these first chapters! Here’s the big one: ‘Hoid, the driver, stepped out.’



That space is to process that sentence. I’ll leave some more.



Okay, now on top of that, the prologue in The Lost Metal is about Baby Wayne (as I will call him; he’s actually ten, I believe) when the last three were all about Wax. Along with the early POV distribution, this may mean this book will center more on the other characters and probably give us more insight on Wayne’s thoughts and history.

I can’t really say much more without more of the book, but it seems like an excellent start to the last book in this sequence.

Brandon Sanderson never fails to amaze us with a wholesome fantasy! Can't wait to fully read the ending of Era 2 of Mistborn. Wax and Wayne are such a great tandem with Marasi!

Conceptualization of the use of allomancy and feruchemy in this era is so astounding!

Intriguing. There's a lot of set up to get going really quickly, along with enough reminders of what's happened for those of us who haven't reread "Bands of Mourning​"​​ recently. It's only the very beginning of the book, and we're already greeted by our familiar heroes and their interactions, detective work, social investigation and pressures, and explosive action, just as I've come to expect and enjoy from Sanderson, especially in this series.

A couple specific developments in the last book are looking to develop greatly in this one, and I'm chomping at the bit to see how Wax and the gang resolve their searches and goals, while also being excited to see how Sanderson incorporates discoveries in this entry into both the world of Scadriel and into the Cosmere at large. I will defintely be looking to buy "The Lost Metal" on release without a moment's hesitation thanks to my trust in Sanderson as an author and thanks to how things are looking to set up and play out in a way that I'm sure will throw me for a loop.

The Lost Metal Excerpt by Brandon Sanderson, looks like a great intro in the latest Wax and Wayne book and I can't wait to read the rest of it.

I read Brandon Sanderson for the first time this year, and he has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Mistborn series has become one of my all time favorites, and Wax and Wayne are one of my favorite characters. Their banter is very appealing to me and when I saw this excerpt I wanted to get my hands on it.

There is a bit of a time jump, and I was really excited to see where these characters are in their lives. The prologue was especially interesting to me, I absolutely adore Wayne. I can’t wait to read the whole book!

I love Brandon Sanderson and everything he creates, so when I saw an excerpt for the highly anticipated Mistborn series I jumped at the opportunity. I will take whatever little sliver I can get after waiting so many years for another book in this series.

This book takes place six years later than Bands of Mourning and we jump right into it, realizing I will need a refresher and possibly reread the other three in the series to fully understand and appreciate this book, because there wasn't enough context for me to remember the details that I read so many years ago.

This book, based on the prologue, will focus on Wayne and his past, which I am excited to read more about. It's hard to write a review having not read the entire book, but I will say I am excited to see where Sanderson takes us with this book and I have no doubt it will be great.

Because this is an extended excerpt and not the complete novel, it’s tough to write a very comprehensive review. So instead I’ll share my major takeaways — and chief among those is the fact that this excerpt made me very eager to get my hands on the full book. Wayne is a fun (if also frustrating) character, and I love the way Marasi and Wax and Steris and the full band of characters compliment and conflict with and play off each other. The prologue introduced emotional impact that made me empathize with Wayne and better understand his larger character and purpose. However, despite being a huge fan of the rest of this series, a good chunk of time has passed since this series last hit bookshelves, and I had trouble remembering key context and details of this world to fill in the confusing gaps in my mind as I read this excerpt. There’s not quite enough subtle context provided in the course of the beginning of this new chapter of the series to remind readers easily of previous important events and worldbuilding, so I’d recommend doing a refresher of your own before reading this. That said, I can’t wait to read more from these characters and see how their mission resolves.

This was an absolutely fantastic extended excerpt! The Lost Metal kicks off six years after the events of The Bands of Mourning which provides for an extremely explosive and informative beginning. Being reunited with some of our favorite characters was such a pleasure as well as meeting some new characters who will be present throughout the book. The scope of The Lost Metal is definitely going to be the largest out of all the Era 2 books and from just reading part 1 I’ve already begun theorizing about everything that could happen in this book. There are so many factors at play from the larger Cosmere and it’s all coming together. Sanderson has me hooked for the full release of this!

The Lost Metal is the final book of Mistborn Era 2 and it is one of my most anticipated books of 2022. This is a short excerpt so I can't write a full review but it started really well. I can't wait to read the whole book.

Wax and Wayne are back and better than ever!

I was surprised to find out that the start of this book takes place a whole SIX years after the concluding events of The Bands of Mourning. But it works. Not only has Elendel and the surrounding areas changed, so have our beloved cast of characters. In the first ten chapters, I was reunited with Marasi, Sterris, Captain Reddi, and of course the wonderful duo of Wax and Wayne. We also get to meet a few new characters who I won't name for now to avoid spoilers.

Like Sanderson's writings often are, this was a quick and easy read. Since we already know well the world, its magic, and its shadowy problems, we were able to jump straight into action and intrigue. I'm looking forward to reading the rest when it comes out in November 2022. I trust that a lot of problems will be solved, a lot of advancements will be made, and at least a couple of hearts will be broken.

I loved the Mistborn series and jumped at the chance to read an excerpt from The Lost Metal! I immediately felt drawn back into the world of Wax and Wayne. The first ten chapters of The Lost metal give me hope. Hope that everything will be alright with our friends in Scadrial and hope that we may yet again have a great story on our hands, on top of it being the series finale.

After three novels in the second era of Mistborn, we finally get an insight into Wayne's past! We get the origins of his good taste in clothing and his skill in disguises, along with a bit of family history. After making the jump, we are now 6 years later than the Bands of Mourning. I'm very interested to see the changed dynamic of Wax, considering he is now a different kind of protector than he used to be. Marasi is now a full-blown high constable & detective, having made the promotion, with Wayne as an OFFICIAL partner.

Speaking of changes, not only our characters have changed. The entire political landscape of Scadrial has! Not only is there a proto-democracy, but the Outer Cities get a say & even the Southern people are involved in it.

Writing-wise, it's same old same old with Brandon, with concise and efficient writing, to get as much attention as possible to the characters and the story; which are and will be most likely great as usual.

Mistborn era one give me big ending impression. Honestly i take my time to start era two with totally new characters, setting and style. But he is my fave author and he never failed me to deliver such intrigue story with well built world building and beautiful character arc. Era two easily worming it is way through my heart as the previous era.

This extended preview bring us back to the unique world with glimpse past life/family of our fave characters. Small chapters to anticipated the waiting but intriguing enough to keep us patience haha.. My son and I devoured this copy very fast and wishing we can read the full copy.

The Mistborn series always held a special place in my heart and this spin-off series has been just so wonderful. As soon as I got this excerpt, I dove right in. It was so great jumping right back into the world of Wax and Wayne. Sanderson has such a unique and wonderful talent of mixing a perfect balance of humor and action and fantasy. The magic and powers in this series are so good and I love the character dynamics. Everyone is a perfect balance to each other and the intrigue built is just captivating. The politics and the adventure are top notch and I adored seeing Wayne and Marasi working together. They have such wonderful chemistry and I love the partnership of Wax and Steris. Sanderson’s writing is smart and engaging and just witty. It was a pleasure reading this first section, and I cannot wait to see where this story goes!

I requested this so fast thinking it was the whole book but it's just an extended excerpt... But what a juicy one! I can't wait to read the whole thing. I love these characters a lot!
