i was kindly given this book as an arc in return for an honest review

Hunter's Blood was interesting, had plot and romance to keep us on our toes. We've got vampires and vampire lore as well as hunters.

The lore was nicely explained and made the history and intricacies easily understandable. Our female main character was well thought out, with a past and a current detailed life. The male character was more mysterious overall, as is usual with vamps.

The plot was interesting, we really got into it from the start. It did slightly get put aside when the training period / flirting period started, but the picked up again.

I did think our fmc accepted all the changes in her life pretty quickly. It didn't really feel natural, she didn't have questions, just went with the flow. I thought her twin sister would have a bigger impact, especially. towards the end. The little comments about her led me to believe her actions would have a huge effect but they didn't whatsoever. And her resolve came out of nowhere considering she was like that for years. And then poof out of nowhere all is good. I wish we learned more about the mmc's story, who he was, and his past...

The Hunter's Blood is a good start to a paranormal romance series with an intriguing plot and lore!

Couldn’t really connect with this and it just felt so repetitive, I found it really hard to get through unfortunately not one for me.

I got to 40% and couldn't continue, it was getting repetitive whilst not going into much detail about anything, it mentions conversations that have been happening but not actually showing the scenes. I don't know if it was just me but it felt like I was getting little to no information about the plot. More of Crispins pov probably would have helped as I found him interesting. I will try again in the future but so far it isn't for me.

Hunter’s Blood begins the HFN series, The Hunter, with an intriguing look into the world of one woman who is far from what she appears and more than she ever suspected.

Ivy and Crispin’s story is steamy, full of danger, and an interesting beginning to this series. Ivy’s life changed so much the night of the accident that took her father’s life, left her sister disabled, and her mother gone in the wind. She’s learned to have a hard exterior to show to the world but inside she’s far more fragile. I can’t say that I liked her sister one little bit. I suppose there’s hope for her redemption within the series but I simply didn’t care one whit about what happened to this angry, cruel sister. Some might say she has reasons to act as she does, but I’d disagree, still, that’s a personal opinion that carries over into my reading as well.

As Ivy discovers, monsters do exist but not all are as evil as one might think. Crispin might be centuries older than Ivy but that doesn’t matter when a vampire finally finds the woman who is his mate. Now she’s being trained to be what she never knew she was… and hunted for the same reason.

I enjoyed Hunter’s Blood and am being purposefully vague for there are details that you should discover on your own firsthand. With a happy for now ending, I’m curious to see where this author takes us next in the series. I enjoyed myself here, and if you love a good vampire love story with steam, danger, and surprises then you’ll want to check this one out.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Hunter's Blood by R Sullins

A bit of a slow start but once you get into this vampire romance it has a fairly fast pace.

There is steamy romance as well as suspense. The only real thing that I dislike about this book is being part of a series. You can’t really say it’s a stand alone book as it leaves on a definite cliff hanger and too many questions. For that reason I can only give the book 3.5/5

This book took a bit of getting into buy once I did it was so addictive. I could not put it down. I would definitely recommend. It is very well written and the story behind the main characters is brilliant.

This book took a little time to get cooking, but once it did, I couldn’t stop. It was a bit like a smutty mix of Buffy the vampire slayer meets moody and possessive Dracula. I hope you read that as the positive comparison I meant it to be.

Ivy is a bit of a loner, having been the primary caretaker for her injured sister. As twins, Ivy naturally feels a bit of responsibility towards her car, especially when they were both in the same crash that took their parents. There are, however, oodles of secrets that Ivy is keeping from almost everyone. During a run after work one night, she comes face-to-face with the evil that lurks in this world. They are seemingly drawn to her, for supernatural reasons that are better explained by her rescuer/rich stranger-turned-trainer vampire.

Crispin is the king of vampires in the region, has tons of power, and has sworn off women until Ivy marches into his life. He does all the rich vampire stuff to try to lure her in, complete with sparring matches, paying her bills, etc. Somehow, though, this doesn’t come off as canned vampire storyline. Ivy and Crispin have roadblocks, yes, but once they move firmly into romance they go full steam ahead. I liked that - knowing that we will probably go through some sort of savior thing, but knowing that at least we wouldn’t have this stupidly predictable miscommunication subplot. All-in-all I ended up liking a lot of the characters here, even the rather moody twin. Definitely worth another look at future installments.

Enjoyable different vampire novel. The ghouls were really nasty..ughh.
I have one question though, can a Hunter, as a True Mate, live forever? Maybe the other books in the series - there are 2 - will answer this.
One warning though, despite the author's plotting, I did work out who wax behind the neighbourhood revenants very quickly.

Hunter's Blood is an exciting vampire romance with suspense and tension that builds as the story progresses. Ivy is a very likeable character who has been dealt hard blows by life and is the sole provider for her disabled sister injured in a car accident as a teen. Added to this was the disappearance of the mother after that same accident.
The story is fast-paced towards the end, and a few elements set the scene for the next book in the series. I'm looking forward to reading it.

ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I DNF'd this book at 20%

This book didn't work for me. The main character Ivy was in a car accident as a child and on that day her life was changed forever. Her mother abandoned them, her father died, and her sister was paralyzed. Since that day Ivy has taken on the responsibility of caring for her sister. The representation of the sister as someone who is paralyzed and as a result stays in her room and refuses to acknowledge her sister did not come off as an attempt at a positive representation of people who use wheelchairs.

Another factor for my not finishing this book was the character of Crispin: assuming he is being set up as the romantic interest of the story, he was entirely unlikeable and cruel to Ivy upon first meeting.

Secrets never stay buried...
Every secret I never knew about myself was revealed by someone who should not exist.
But they do,
monsters exist.
They are all around us...
and I am the one they want the most.
They crave my blood.
The biggest secret of all?
I'm one of those monsters, too.
Now someone has created an army that threatens to destroy the Vampire King that calls me his mate.

In this book you will see a great plot and end with a cliffhanger, I cannot wait to see what Sullins will give us in book 2. This book is fast paced, has action, and some spicy scenes in the book, I would rate them at 2.5, Fated mates, great relatable characters, and my favorite betrayal.

I loved that the heroes in this series are females, known as Hunters, they are employed by Vampires to help track down and kill rogue vampires that have turned into something else.

I thought the chemistry between Ivy and Crispin was great, Now I know some will not like that he can be dominating but if you have read other books with vampires, you will see a trend that most are alaphaholes when it comes to their mates, they all become very protective of their mates.

There were a few things that I did not like about the book: I did feel that, even for fated mates, their relationship went a little too fast for me. I wish we would have had a little more answers from Crispin and not just bam take her bed. Other than those two things I did enjoy the book and I do want to read the next one so I can get more answers.
I want to thank Netgalley & BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read and review this book for my honest opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley for ARC of this book.

I was on-the-fence on trying to figure out how to score this. I downed this book quickly in 3 nights of reading after work; so the plot, events, side characters all drew me in. But I never felt connected to the 2 main characters. Their interactions seemed insta-love. And two tropes used simultaneously almost cancelled each other out. I'm thinking that is where the disconnect is.

The love story was a Hunter finds her power and she has this vampire who becomes teacher/guardian....and of course romantic interest. Great trope, love this...I expected her to get strong and kick butt. But then it went to overprotective mate, he looks out for her and she doesn't really ever explore her strength or succeed on her own. She becomes passive and taken care of. Which goes against the whole "I will be strong" vibe. Separating those two out, and pulling the romance out longer over a couple books might have worked better.

The plot was on-the-go from action to intimate scenes. And intimate scenes had chemistry! (in case you were worried, and that's what you're looking for)

Adventure, betrayal, secrets, guilt, and vampires and hunters. You know, to hunt down vamps that went bad. And no story is complete without a true mate! A fun vampire adventure with enough action to really keep things goong.

A big thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a series. It ends on an odd note-doesn't feel finished. I enjoyed the story and liked the characters. Ivy and Crispin have great chemistry. Her sister Iris needs to get over herself. I can see where this story is headed and book 2 is going to be interesting! I want to continue this series and see if what I think will happen does. 4 stars

Ivy 21 year old who has faced lots of hardships over the last 6 years. She is struggling to take care of her twin sister who was paralyzed in a car accident that also took their fathers life and caused their mother to abandon them.

One night during a run Ivy gets attacked by creatures, during the struggle we meet our main male character a 2000 year old vampire lord.

Ivy finds out that she is part of a elite group of gals who are destined to fight these creatures.

I usually absolutely love vampire books but I feel like this storyline was just a lot and instead of filling plot holes we get spicy time. Hopefully in the next book we will get more answers.

This book was really good! I honestly couldn't put it down, and I'm excited to read book 2.

Pros:
- It reminded me so much of early 2000s vampire love stories, which I hadn't realized till recently I missed! It wasn't exactly a hard read, and the spicy scenes were well crafted.
- The character of Ivy was well made, and you could see the progression of her character as she went

Cons:
- This felt wayyyyyy too close to the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. Here are the similarities I noticed:
-Both male MC's are named Crispin (though in JF's he goes by Bones)
-The Female MC's are more than human, but not quiet vampires
-Both Ivy & Cat didn't know a lot about their background, both having absentee parents, who should've/could've trained them. They were both meant to fight against the bad guys in the night, and are given money by the male MC to do the job, both being extremely rich.

- The relationship moved really fast, for having "mates" be such a rare and special thing, they very quickly just flew through it, and it didn't seem like they really knew one another. I would've preferred had they taken time to get to know one another, its not like he's going anywhere.

- Iris bugged me so much, her character was just meant to make the FMC feel bad at every step, and then suddenly "jim" (who I could tell was really James, though we'll have to wait for book 2 to confirm) made her realize how horrible she was being? The flip was too drastic, too quickly.

Overall, i think it was a good easy read, and one that I did enjoy - while I had my gripes about certain aspects, I did enjoy watching a FMC become strong in her own right.
Will be reading book 2!

This is a new author to me and I loved the way its written. Its very current and witty. It made the story flow in a really fast paced way and I liked it a lot. This is book one in a series but I'd definitely consider reading the next one as I enjoyed this one.

A stirring tale about a 21-year-old hunter and a centuries-old vampire. Ivy Moore, the main character, experienced a lot of hardship in her early years. She loves her paralyzed twin sister despite the fact that she doesn't like her. The night of the car accident, which claimed the life of Ivy's father, left her twin sister paralyzed, and caused Ivy to watch their mother leave them, everything in her life changed. Her sister vents all of her anger and grief on Ivy, who just puts up with it because she feels bad that she survived and is "normal." One night, she is chased by weird looking creatures and rescued by a wolf, who is a vampire lord, Crispin, who tells her that she’s a hunter of those creatures. She realizes her life is so much more than she thought. Crispin is the local vampire lord who takes Ivy under his protection and trains her to fight and protect her from more attacks. Realising she is his mate, Crispin does everything he can to protect her from a threat closer than he realises.

The story is amazing. The story line has a fairly smooth flow and is very well written. It has a strong female character, and I loved the chemistry between her and Crispin. I am looking forward to reading the second part of the book. I would recommend this book.
