Honestly when I chose this book, I did not realize that this was the second book in this series. If I would have known that I would have not chosen it but since I did I will give my review.
I was not a real huge fan of this book.
It was a little slow for me and I found myself stopping multiple times to go and do something else.
There was a point where I almost DNF'D the book, but I pushed through.
This book just wasn't for me.

The contract by Karissa Knight.
Mina's Choice Book 2.
Chicago’s hottest legal star is the lawyer of choice for wealthy offenders, but Mina’s courtroom victories increasingly conflict with her sense of right and wrong. When she can’t ease her guilt with her self-punishing extreme sport, she seeks to relieve it in other ways. Billionaire Jonathon Thomas Heun is happy to oblige as they take their relationship to the next level with Mina surrendering control and embracing her dark, dangerous desires.
Really enjoyable read. I love this series. Can't wait for book 3. 5*.

Again, another great read but the main (well only) issue that I felt with this book was Mina's character as she came across slightly whiny compared to the first book, mainly when it came to her relationship with Jonathon. However, I still loved the complexity of the storyline and the relationship as well; though I did expect more to be written about the still-new, budding relationship between Mina and Jonathon - hopefully this happens in the next book!

I did however, feel that Knight has set up the next book perfectly, especially with the introduction of the character Rory and her role in the third book - I was very intrigued by what we find out about her! I also want/need a spin-off involving Traci and her recovery over the events of this book, or more from her in the next book!

I didn’t realise there was a first part book to the series, this book briefly touches on the last book and gives an idea of what has happened in the past book which helps you understand her character.

I enjoyed the book and I liked getting to know the characters and enjoyed the plot.

Looking forward to catch up book 1 and also reading book 3 when it’s released.

I read this book in one day! I didn’t think that it was as good as book 1 however it was still a great read. It was somewhat predictable but it was easy to follow and read. Great book to sit down and get lost in. I cant wait for book 3 and follow Mina and Jonathans developing romance.

My Review
I received an ARC from Netgalley. Book comes out 16 Aug 2022.

I really need to pay attention when selecting books to read sometimes. If I did, I would have realized that this is book 2 in what is maybe a series or trilogy, thereby saving myself from the slightly dazed and confused feeling I had when I started this book. Wondering if I had missed something from the start. I did-I missed the first book with the Jonathan and Mina’s first meeting and how exactly they arrived at chapter one in the Contract. Don’t be like me and read out of order. This book should not be read as a stand alone!
That aside, this book was really, really good. Mina is a strong woman in and out of the courtroom. The creeps she represents has left her feeling guilty to the point where she does dangerous things to try to escape, but lately her usual methods for escapism is not working much to her dismay. Jonathan offers his assistance. He will help Mina escape through submission. I loved watching Mina wrestle with her guilt over her part in creeps roaming the streets. I liked how she was willing to let go of her control to Jonathan and how he, in turn, gives her what she needs and more. How he just seeks to cherish her. I loved watching them fall together and see Mina realize how much power she has in their relationship even though Jonathan is the dominant one.
This book was fast-paced and intriguing. It was very, very, steamy, angsty, fun read. The characters were relatable and believable. I flew through this book and I am looking forward to reading the last book whenever it comes out. Would I go back and find the first book in the trilogy? Probably. If only to connect the dots better. Do I want to read more by Karissa Knight? Definitely.

Spicy and fun read, excellent continuation of the series! There were some areas where I had to power through and stay engaged in the material, but I am glad I did, it got much better towards the last quarter of the book. Excellent spicy book with the right amount of compelling and twisting mystery. I look forward to the conclusion of this trilogy!

This book is not what I thought. It's more a Russian crime novel with a little sex thrown in. It was listed in NetGalley as erotic but I found it tame. The sex is glossed over, especially for a sub/dom relationship.

Many times I wanted to DNF but then again wanted questions answered only to be left with two overwhelming thoughts:
1. Rich people problems
2. For smart people y'all are freakin' stupid.

At first, I didn't think I was going to be able to finish this book because it wasn't really the type of book I liked to read but I powered through and I’m glad I did because it did get better. This book, and this series in general, I think would be perfect for fans of Fifty Shades of Grey, who like the romance and the mystery and the BDSM. I was personally not a fan of how Mina’s and Jonathon’s relationship dynamic worked for about 3/4 of the book, but I think their relationship was purposely written that way to show that Mina had been approaching their relationship the wrong way from the beginning, when Jonathon had approached it a different way. Once they reached the breaking point and the line between a “contract” and actual love was crossed, it felt like a breath of fresh air. The dynamic changed and the relationship felt better and more loving and healthy. I also really enjoyed the plot too; this series has substance and that’s what makes the book better in my opinion. I liked the twists and turns and the mysterious backstory that came back to haunt Jonathon and set everything into motion. Reading Mina try to figure everything out while using that lawyer brain of hers is fun to read, and I enjoy her tenacity to get down to the truth of it all. All in all, this was a fairly enjoyable read and I am curious to see what will happen in the next book.

The Contract is such a great story that has everything you would want in it! It had adventure, intrigue, love and has you plotting out in your own mind the various scenarios that the story may take in the future.

Are you kidding me??

So many grammatical errors...

But looking past the grammar - the book lost me, when the 29-year-old female lawyer twice within 10 pages gave a thousand Euros in tips...

Listen, if you have that kind of money to waste... there was absolutely no need to do all the dirty work for the law firm.
(I am not sure the author knows the value of Euros...)

I am moving on - It is a DNF for me!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is about a lawyer who represents really horrible people and feels a lot of guilt about it. She uses self destructive behaviour to cope with her guilt. At first she uses cliff jumping too subdue her guilt until she meets Jonathan, a billionaire who is into BDSM. She views this punishing relationship as a way to atone for her sins. Unfortunately for her, Jonathan is very rich and accidentally connected to the Russian mob. His ex girlfriend is part of the mob and hates him. She is extorting him for money and Mina (our main character) is being threatened because Jonathan is in love with her.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was fast-paced, exciting and the characters, however frustrating, are lovable and go through serious development. The only issue I had with the book was that the first chapter was so fast and exciting and promised serious sexuality throughout the book and didn't fully delivered. It was heavily plot driven which was an unexpected surprise but I wasn't disappointed by it. Overall It was very enjoyable and deeper than I expected. I would highly recommend.

Slow to start, felt like it was dragging on. I don’t know if I would recommend this book to someone else.

I was excited to start this one, but it didn't end up being something I enjoyed. It dragged on for ages, and I'll admit to skimming the last 30%. Really, my complaint comes down to wanting a little less mafia drama and a little more romance. I thought I was entering a spicy romance, not a book trying to be way more. So part of my disappointment is my incorrect expectations

I didn’t realize this was book 2 at first and i definitely should have read the first, first. It dives right in I’m assuming where the first leaves off. So i felt a little disconnected from the character and a little lost. It is an action packed fast paced read tho! And I’m a fan of this couple

I was really interested in the blurb of this book, but have to say I feel you need to read the first one in the series.

The book just jumps right into the next couple/ part of the story and I was really lost, knowing that I should care or feel a connection but it was so fast it didn't happen. I will be looking for more books from this author though and trying again.

I couldn't read past chapter nine.
The writing did not flow well. The story line about the main characters job was rushed and chaotic.

This is the second book in the series and brings you further into the story of Mina and Jonathan. I liked this one better than the first. The storyline had a mix of exploring the deepening (and complicated) relationship between the 2 main characters, along with an action-thriller plotline of a crime web that latched on to both as well. It was interesting to read the story unfold and I enjoyed the suspense throughout.

I was intrigued by the concept, especially the female main character, utterly thisneeded more set up and more optional death for me. DNF

The Contract by Karissa Knight is book one in the Mina's Choice series.
I have not read book one. Unfortunately I did not know this was part of a series.

Knight has written a good suspense, steamy, enjoyable novel.
Mina and Jonathon are intriguing and very interesting characters.
It was well written and well protrayed. I was ultimately hooked to the pages and the characters kept me wanting more.
I look forward to reading more from Karissa Knight in the future.
It's' a very quick read and the cover is eye catching.
