Who doesn't love a mystery set in Vermont? And with a literary pub in a sweet small town! This is a very enjoyable and well-written cozy mystery. It has enough twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the very end. Love the characters to the point of wishing that I was a character in this story.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. Viva Vermont!

“Through the Liquor Glass" the 5th instalment in the "A Literary Pub" Mystery series by Sarah Fox. I love both of Sarah’s Cozy Mystery series but Sadie and Shady Creek hold a special place in my heart as I like the whole concept of a Literary Pub. I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah this summer as she lives in my hometown, she is as likeable as her main characters and I wish her nothing but the best in her new series “A True Confections Mystery”

Fall is in full swing in the picturesque New England town of Shady Creek, Vermont, and Sadie Coleman, owner of the literary-themed Inkwell pub, is serving up delicious food and drinks with a side of sleuthing

I really love this series and am sad this will be the last book.

The characters are well developed and I love the whole setting of Shady Creek, with its shops around the green, the local busybody, inclusion of children, Sadies friends and fellow shop owners. It made me want to live there and walk the green just like Sadie does.

The romance between Sadie and Grayson is heading in the right direction and Sadie’s mum finally got to meet him and see she has a happy life in Shady Creek even if there has been a few murders.

The mystery is interesting and well plotted, and I kept guessing and second-guessing myself on whodunnit right to the very end. I did not figure it out till the reveal and was a bit surprised.

I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from Kensington Books and the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Sadie Coleman is apprehensive because her mother is finally coming a visit and she wants everything perfect. Unfortunately, during the food and drink festival, one of the food critics is found dead at her boyfriend's brewery and he is the chief suspect. He goes into hiding, and Sadie sets out to prove him innocent while keeping the news away from her mother.

Loved how Sadie tries to juggle her Mother as well as find the murderer!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

It’s Autumn in Vermont and it is the first year of the A Taste of Shady Creek Festival and Inkwell owner Sadie Coleman is excited to share her literary-themed cocktails with all the visitors at the event. Her mother is also coming to town for the first time and she wants everything to be perfect when she arrives. She wants to show off her new business and introduce her to her friends including her craft brewery boyfriend, Grayson Blake. She is so nervous her mother will not like anything about her new life in Vermont, especially now that another murder has occurred. A murder where Grayson is the prime suspect. With the evidence mounting against him, he disappears while he tries to find proof that he had nothing to do with the murder. Sadie misses him terribly and refuses to stand by and do nothing. Can she chase down a killer, run her pub, and entertain her mother all at the same time? Time will tell.

This is one of my favorite series. I anxiously await each new book to catch up with Sadie and all her friends in Shady Creek. The Inkwell is such a unique pub where people can partake in literary-themed cocktails and food while surrounded by books. Book clubs meet there and Sadie comes up with several bookish events plus it’s a great place to meet with friends and relax. I’ve said it before and will say it again, the Inkwell is my fictional happy place.

Ms. Fox has developed fantastic characters over the course of the series. Sadie continues to grow more confident and is becoming a great amateur sleuth. I love how her relationship is progressing with Grayson. With him in hot water this time she is really tested. She wants to not only find the true killer but find Grayson. Not having any idea where he is and if he is safe was so hard on her. I really enjoyed that her mother came to town. She was totally different than what I was expecting. I was also happy that some secondary characters played a larger role in this story. It was nice to get to know them a little better. The new characters introduced were well crafted as well.

The author plotted out quite a mystery. We all know that Grayson had to be innocent but when a part of his past along with the people involved show up in the idyllic Shady Creek it does give us pause especially when he takes off instead of defending himself. This led to a very fast-paced and exciting story. I was completely in the dark until everything came to a head. I was happy with the way the drama played out and that we learned the whole story after the culprit was caught.

Through the Liquor Glass was such an entertaining mystery. It checks all the cozy boxes and left me wanting more! I can’t wait for my next visit to Shady Creek!

Sarah Fox is a prolific author and through the liquor glass is tan exciting book.

I was completely immersed in this book from the first page. The setting, plot, characters, and mystery kept me engaged and I could not put the book down. I could not figure out the whodunnit, so the final reveal was a shocker to me. I highly recommend this series.

Through the Liquor Glass is the thrilling fifth book in Sarah Fox's Literary Pub Mystery series.

I enjoyed this book so much. I was completely hooked from the very first page. The mysteries, danger, characters, and storyline all had me reading way past my bedtime because I had to know what happened next. I didn't what to put it down.
Highly recommend.

Through the Liquor Glass is the 5th book in Sarah Fox’s Literary Pub series. Sadie Coleman, owner of the Inkwell Literary Pub in Shady Creek, Vermont, has begun a very busy week. The town is hosting A Taste of Shady Creek, a new food and drink festival designed to increase tourism in early October. Not only would Sadie be working the event as well as at her pub, she would also be preparing for her mother’s first visit to her new home and business and celebrate Sadie’s birthday with her. Her mom would also be meeting Grayson Blake, Sadie’s boyfriend and owner of Spirit Hill Brewery located adjacent to the inkwell.

With the first festival day behind her and her mother’s arrival the next day, Sadie visited Grayson at the end of the day and went on rounds with him. Unexpectedly, the pair finds a deceased food critic lying in the brewery with the back door ajar. Unfortunately, Grayson had known the critic many years ago and he jumped to the front of the suspect list as the police began to investigate.

This is yet another well constructed mystery in this thoughtfully created mystery series. With likable characters, a picturesque small town setting, and such well designed plots the reader will be kept guessing until the end, Ms. Fox doesn’t ever disappoint! I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it!

THROUGH THE LIQUOR GLASS, the action packed fifth entry in the Literary Pub Mystery Series, is a wonderful addition to the series. A go-getter protagonist, good variety of characters, and a charming New Englad setting enhance the murder that kept me guessing throughout.

Sadie Coleman and the town of Shady Creek are abuzz with the first annual festivel. Plenty of food venders and food critics have come to town, and when one of the critics is found dead in Grayson's brewery he becomes the police's primary, and only, suspect. As Grayson goes to hiding, Sadie sets out to find the real killer all while running her pub, The Inkwell, and entertaining her mother who is visiting Shady Creek for the first time.

I really enjoy this series. The Vermont setting and the charming pub draw me in everytime. I love the bookish theme. Sadie is an intelligent, adventurous sleuth. Grayson is a good foil for Sadie, but I do not like that he hid from the police. The other characters round out the tale.

THROUGH THE LIQUOR GLASS is a great addition to the Literary Pub Mystery series. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the entire series.

I received an ARC from the author and Kensington Books and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

This is book 5 in the Literary Pub Mystery Series. Sadie and Grayson are enjoying Shady Creek’s 1st annual Food and Drink Festival when one of the food critics is found dead in Grayson’s Brewery and he becomes the prime suspect. Will Sadie be able to prove his innocence?

I couldn’t put this book down! Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger that makes you keep reading to find out what happens next. I was in awe of Sadie’s bravery as she approaches the suspects head-on and found herself sneaking around town to find where Grayson is hiding. I also liked that there were recipes at the end of the book. Even though I can’t eat popcorn, the Maple Butter Popcorn recipe sounds yummy! Maybe I can try it with rice Chex instead.😃

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I really had a hard time putting this down, and the sleuthing Grayson and Sadie did was definitely page-turning! I think I was as worried about Grayson as Sadie was when he went into hiding after the murder of a woman he had some bad history with when he was a private investigator. It was cool that some of the characters that in the past hadn't had all that much page time got their little moments to shine, especially during the showdown! Jason, Joey and Cordelia were characters I hadn't remembered reading much about but they got quite a bit of mentioning in this case.

I never guessed whodunit and it was a great showdown. The whole mystery was well-explained in great detail after the perp was hauled away. I love that Sadie's mom finally got to come see Sadie's new town and eventually got to meet Grayson...and who wouldn't love that guy, right? Can't wait for the next book!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

Sadie Coleman, owner of the Inkwell Pub, is ready for a new festival “A Tast of Shady Creek” and a visit from her mom. This will be the first time her mom will visit the Inkwell and meets Sadie’s boyfriend Grayson Blake, owner of local craft brewery.
All should be well, until one of the visiting food critics is found dead in the Garyson’s brewery and he is the number one suspect.
Another great installment in the Literary Pub Series, and I love the recipes!

Sadie Coleman has a lot on her mind and the last thing she would have thought could be added to her list? A murder. The town of Shady Creek, Vermont will be hosting a town food and spirits tasting event called A Taste of Shady Creek. As the owner of the Inkwell, a literary themed pub serving food and beverages with a book twist, Sadie will be showing off her business. Her boyfriend, Grayson will be doing the same with his brewery. Sounds innocent enough until a couple of critics have a set to and it seems that Grayson had some history if one of them. When she is found dead in the brewery Grayson becomes the prime suspect. Is it possible that the person trying to frame him has ties to his past as a PI? Knowing that Grayson is certainly innocent, who else wanted her dead? Grayson decides to avoid the police and sets out to use his talents as a PI to find the killer. Sadie turns amateur sleuth, not for the first time. (this is, after all, the fifth book in the series). Oh and one other, not so minor situation is on the horizon. Her mother is coming to town for the first time since Sadie moved and set up the Inkwell. Sadie wants it to go well but that's a tall order when her boyfriend is accused of murder and she is trying to clear him.
With a very well plotted mystery, a great cast of characters and a pace that keeps the reader saying "just one more page" this is a satisfying puzzler in a consistently good cozy series. If you are new to this series, not a problem, it works fine as a stand alone.
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is set in Vermont in a literary themed pub. Sadie runs the pub and lives above it. It’s a busy time, Fall Festival week is here and all the locals are ready to profit from the activities. Several food and travel critics are also in town. When one of those critics is found dead in Sadie’s boyfriend Blake’s craft brewery, Sadie is on the case. Grayson has prior history with the food critic and is the top suspect. This is a new to me series. I found the characters enjoyable, the setting attractive, and the mystery puzzling. I highly recommend this series.

Sadie Coleman runs The Inkwell, her literary-themed pub, housed in a renovated grist mill in Shady Creek, Vermont. Sadie is preparing for a visit from her mum and a local taste festival is featuring all the food and drink establishments in town. When someone is murdered, Sadie's boyfriend, Grayson is suspect number one but who is framing him?

Sarah Fox's fifth Literary Pub Mystery is fabulously entertaining. I really like Sadie as she has a great vision and determination. There is so much to like in this cozy murder mystery, besides Sadie herself. The plot is sound, the whole cast is well-drawn, the mystery is intriguing and kept me guessing. Through the Liquor Glass was a very enjoyable instalment and I will be catching up with the first books in the series as well looking forward to book #6. An excellent series.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I enjoyed this fifth entry in the Literary Pub mystery series, as I have all of the others. One of my main loves of cozy mysteries is getting to know the protagonist and the supporting characters, and feeling a connection to their lives, and in this series seems like we haven't had many opportunities to do that. I'm happy that we did meet more of Sadie's family and friends and see more of the townspeople, and that made it a more enjoyable story. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for the advance digital copy! I look forward to reading the next one.

I have enjoyed the first four journeys in Shady Creek and this one was a delightful addition to the collection. My only complaint was Sadie wailing about her boyfriend being a suspect and her constant aching and pining got really, really old. It was on nearly every other page and greatly distracted my enjoyment of the story, which is why I am only giving this one four stars.

I also missed a lot of the pub action and literary references in the previous books.

I know Sarah Fox has said this series is likely coming to an end, so I hope this is not the last book. I would definitely want the series to continue and find out if Sadie and Grayson live happily ever after.

This is the first book I have read in this series but it was easy to get to know the characters and to get into the story. Things start to go wrong when Sadie and her boyfriend Grayson discover a dead body and get worse when Grayson is the main suspect for committing the murder.

I liked the setting and was especially charmed by the description of Sadie's literary pub, the Inkwell. Some of the cocktails she served had very adventurous names. The story followed the usual cosy tropes. I was uncomfortable with the fact that Grayson went into hiding from the police. Normal upstanding members of the community get bail and find legal ways of sorting out who really dunnit.

Still an interesting and entertaining read. Three stars from me.
