A love story that broke my heart. Claire was prepared to do what she must to save her daughter. Even marriage?

She wasn't sure she could be so close to Captain Marcus while he was recuperating from his wounds. But each day brought them closer to the truth.

Claire prayed for a miracle. It was almost too late. I have said many prayers for healing and comfort. I can remember times where I felt that I wouldn't find happiness in my life. I hoped it wasn't true. I was quite surprised that when I least expected it true happiness came into my life. I didn't give up hope. Neither did Claire.

I enjoyed the story and time frame of the book. It was set in 1918 during the war. There was espionage and intrigue. There was love between family members and to friends that were there for you in your time of need. I was hoping for a happy ending.

I received this ebook to review from the author.

What a wonderful read to get lost in. It quickly became a page turner, and yes, I did read the first book in this series, also a great read, but except for some recurring characters, this can be read alone!

The pages flew, I needed answers, and knowing the facts, wanted to smack the Russian ballernia, but you need to keep turning those pages!

Filled with intrigue, danger, suspense, and throw in a bit of sweet romance! I loved this read, when I turned the last page, I wanted more!

Be sure to read the author's notes at the end!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

History, intrigue and romance, this book has it all.

Clare Danner has made mistakes in her life, but thought she was on the track to having things back under control. She has her child back, is in love with Captain Marcus Weatherford and expects a proposal at any time. A proposal from Marcus will not only make her happy because she loves him very much, but it will also provide her daughter Daisy some added protection from others who want to take Daisy away from her.

Clare's world comes crashing down when she witnesses what she thinks is Marcus proposing to a famous Russian ballerina. Clare does not realize at the time that this is all part of a ruse for Marcus' job as a spy for the British government. When things go terribly wrong with Marcus' mission, and he suffers amnesia due to his injuries, Clare thinks her chances of being with Marcus are over for good, and she might lose Daisy if Marcus can't remember the past.

This had a bit of a fairytale element to it--the old trope of the "true bride." Usually the hero promises his love to one woman, but then is ensorcelled (often with a memory-wipe) to trick him into marrying another, at which point the heroine must rescue him.

Though I enjoyed all the author's other books, this one was a struggle for me. Clare has a big chip on her shoulder, which all the misunderstandings do nothing to diminish, and I just didn't like her all that well (she also tends to make poor decisions). It didn't help that thanks to amnesia, Marcus isn't really himself for most of the book; I was really looking forward to getting to know this super clever spy, but he's lost the last decade of his memories. Everyone is always deciding to not tell people things, which means misunderstandings grow out of proportion, and problems that could have been avoided entirely blow up instead.

I did like how Clare helps Marcus reconnect with his memories and family, and the way they essentially fall in love a second time is sweet. But I think I would have liked it better as a Jason Bourne-type story from Marcus's perspective, as he's figuring out and piecing back together his memories just in time for the end.

Thank you Bethany House and NetGalley for the complimentary e-book. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions are my own.

World War I story about a hospital worker and unwed mother in love with a British agent she thinks has betrayed her with another woman. I hadn't read the previous books in the series, but it didn't stop me from enjoying the story.

Kate Breslin writes some of the most wonderful adventures so this book was no exception. I loved loved every minute of it!
I really enjoyed being swept away in another time and place.
Breslin does amazing research to create awesome stories such as this one and I learned much about the time period and the events that took place.
I didn't want to put the book down because of the awesome sit on the edge of your seat scenes.
Some strong Christian messages throughout the book and that was another thing I loved about this book.
5 stars for a job well done! I highly recommend!

In Love’s Time
By Kate Breslin
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers
Series: None

Back of the Book: “At the height of World War I, two sweethearts face impossible odds in this powerful tale of courage, duty, and heartbreak.
In the summer of 1918, Captain Marcus Weatherford arrives in Russia on a secret mission, with a beautiful ballerina posing as his fiancée. He's there to find the Romanov tsarina and her son and glean information about a plot to assassinate Lenin. As the danger intensifies, Marcus's sense of duty battles with his desire to return home to Clare, the woman he truly loves, before it's too late.
Military hospital orderly Clare Danner still suffers from Marcus's betrayal after learning he's engaged to another woman. Clare also fears losing her daughter, Daisy, to the heartless family who took her away once before. Only Marcus can provide the critical proof needed to save Daisy, but when an injury leaves him powerless to help, Clare's fate--and the fate of the top-secret mission--hangs in the balance.”

Impressions: What a rollercoaster of emotions! The tension between the characters was well written as the plot took twists and turns to its conclusion. Although I had a hunch as to how things might turn out I still enjoyed the suspense. Some of the characters were familiar from Kate Breslin’s book, Not by Sight which was fun, however this could be read as a standalone novel.

Quotes: “‘We’ve all faced one obstacle or another in our lives, but if we believe in ourselves and we trust God, we can benefit from those difficulties. It may sound trite, I know, but those hard things can be preparing us for greater challenges.’”

“‘Some people don’t realize that a person’s dignity is inherent to them, a gift from God. And no one has the right to trample on it or dismiss it. Or talk over it.’”

Many stories came to light after the brutal murder of the Romanov Tsar. In this novel, the author spins a tale of Marcus, a British spy searching for the tsarina and her son rumored to be hiding in a remote area of Russia Russian ballerina Natalya joins the search acting as Marcus' fiancee since she can identify them. I found this novel at times hard to follow. I admired Clare's dedication to nursing the soldiers during WWI. Even with mixed feelings about Marcus she did focus on his health. Interesting but not my favorite by this author.

Wow, Kate Breslin will have you sitting on the edge of your seat with this plot!! It’s a very close call at the end and I couldn’t put the book down.
As the main character of a few of her books, Marcus Weatherford has a duty to his country as a spy but his duties take him away from the love of his life. After a bad fall, he looses his memory as the love of his life is fighting for her child. She eventually gives up on him regaining his memory but a few small miracles occur to reunite the pair.

This book is suitable for teenage readers. I was given a copy for free in exchange for this review.

Kate Breslin has a winner here, with serious intrigue and romance during World War I. Spying is a dangerous game and many times loved one suffer due to that game. Captain Marcus Weatherford's secret mission threatens to destroy his upcoming life with Clare Danner. They both need each other but the dangers abounds, and it seems all is lost.

Breslin takes her readers on a great adventure, one that had me on pins and needles at times.

My thanks to Bethany House for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion in this review is entirely my own.

IN LOVE’S TIME is another beautifully written WW1 novel by KATE BRESLIN, with a poignant love story, which seems doomed by circumstances, a nail biting plot and a strong Christian message, mainly that of trusting God and one another. I literally could not put the book down.
Captain Sir Maecus Weaherford, who works at the Admiralty in London and goes on top secret and highly dangerous missions, has a motto, namely, “Duty and love do not mix”. It is on one such mission in Russia with the beautiful Natalya Bryce that he receives a head injury which causes retrograde amnesia.
Clare Danner, who was expecting his proposal only to see him propose to another, goes to the Weatherford mansion in Hampshire to nurse him, hoping he will remember her and her daughter Daisy before she loses her previous little girl for the second time……
There is treachery, jealousy, a missing spy and a mole in the Admiralty, together with the Bolshevik uprising in Russia, which all makes for a thrilling read.
The author has obviously done a great deal of research into this period of history and this, together with her understanding of human emotions, makes up a most enjoyable historical romance novel. In fact I cannot recommend In Love’s Time highly enough.

1918: Captain Marcus Weatherford is an officer in The Royal Navy and he’s also involved with the newly formed Secret Service Bureau. Britain’s fighting in The Great War, the SSB is worried about security in England and other countries. Marcus is sent on a top secret and dangerous mission to Russia, and accompanying him is former ballerina Mrs. Natalya Bryce. The widow is posing as his fiancée, their searching for clues about the disappearance of Empress Alexandra and her son Alexei and any information behind an allied plot to assassinate Vladimir Lenin. Marcus is torn between his sense of duty, having to hide the truth of what he’s doing from his family and the woman he loves.

Clare Danner works as an orderly at Endell Street Military Hospital and she has a young daughter Daisy. Clare was once a maid, her daughter was born out of wedlock, Daisy’s grandfather has money, power and he's influential in the British Parliament. The Lord took Daisy from her before, Marcus helped Clare get her back and she needs his support when he threatens to take Daisy away from her again. Clare has no idea that Marcus is involved with the Secret Service Bureau, how dangerous his latest mission is, how he’s pretending to be engaged to another woman and nothing goes as planned with his assignment.

I received a copy of In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin from NetGalley and Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t realizes when I started reading the novel it was the second one in the series, I haven’t read the first book, Not by Sight and I really wish I had. However I could piece together what happened in the past with Marcus and Clare. I admired Marcus for his dedication to his country and the British Royal Navy, to his younger sister Frances and grandfather Sir Geoffrey Weatherford. Clare overcame adversity and prejudice, and she was willing to do anything to keep her daughter. The narrative included interesting facts about The Great War, Secret Service Bureau, and country estates being used as convalescent facilities, rehabilitation of amputees and the making of prosthetics limbs. A story about love, duty, service, secrets, deception, double agents, spies and four stars from me.

The author has written many novels, but I believe this one might be her best yet! This book is excellently researched, and it is clear, as always, that Kate Breslin is a scrupulous historian alongside her authorship. Wonderful, captivating writing and an original plot and romance gives this novel the depth and ability to pull in any reader. I highly recommend this author and all of her other books I have read have been nothing less than fantastic. She is definitely an auto-buy author for me, and I can't wait to own this novel in print.

In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin is a tale of espionage, forgotten memories, and love. If you have read any of Breslin’s previous novels, then you would be familiar with Marcus Weatherford. He, as the hero of this novel, has been the sidelined character who made an appearance but never had the change to tell his story until now. He is brave, family orientated, and madly in love with Clare. On the other end of the scope is Clare Danner, a nurse who wants the best for her daughter Daisy. With all the tension and drama in the story, Clare keeps a cool head and does what she needs to without thinking twice about not doing it. She is willing to sacrifice everything. The plot is handled nicely with plenty of action when the story starts and mellows in the middle by then rising again toward the climactic moment. The description of Marcus’s family home is nicely handled. I love the secret passageways, the conservatory, and hospital on half of the estate. Breslin does a wonderful job at crafting a story that shows how long will true love wait and what challenges will they conquer to make true love a reality. Overall, In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin was a masterfully told story about love with hints of espionage. I really loved spending time with Marcus and Clare. I recommend this story.

I received a complimentary copy of In Love’s Time by Kate Breslin from Bethany House Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
