Alice doesn't think there's anything that makes her special, but after meeting new friends and becoming part of their group, she finds out she's a huntress designed to hunt demons. She and her friends have an adventure hunting demons and trying to figure out a way to save the world. This book had great relationships between its characters and had the added bonus of being steeped in Greek mythology, which we all love. The Last Huntress was a wild ride of a story and I can't wait to read the next one!

I never thought I’d read a book heavily referencing Alice in Wonderland and immersed in Greek mythology, let alone love it. This book was a completely fresh take on the standard demon-hunter story. Our heroine Alice (get the reference now?) looks into the mirror and something that is not-Alice is looking back. It’s the start of an immersive tale of mirror-hopping, realm visiting, ancient gods and goddesses, mythology, and soul mates. There are found family and soul connections that make you think about just how far we’ll go for the ones we love. The connections in the book come fast, but they feel absolutely real. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was I felt a little bit lost because I don’t know anything about Greek mythology at all. If I had, I think I would have gotten a few references sooner or perhaps understood a little more quickly. I knew though, when I got to a heart-wrenchingly sad spot and almost threw the book (which is not a physical book but a kindle!) that I was invested.

This book was hilarious and romantic. There are some passages that I read that gave me chills with the beauty of the way it was phrased. I’m confused if this book is a stand-alone or the beginning of something. Either way, I’d recommend giving The Last Huntress a read, it’s more than worth your time.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. (via Netgalley)

It felt like the story jumped around a lot. Things just happened without there being anything leading up to it. Suddenly we're here, doing this! The biggest problem I had with this story was the instalove.. like within the first few chapters? Noo. that's one of the things I hate to see in a story. Characters were meh and not at all memorable. The Greek mythology felt kind of thrown in there. I think this story had the potential had things been fleshed out a bit more.

First of all, the author likes cats and she sprinkled cats in the book and I literally only caught on til the end, even though I see the cat videos she shares daily on Instagram 😂.

Story contains: Greek mythology, soul mates, demons, different dimensions/realms, founds family, best female friends, spook, creepiness, slow burn, and more! Great for a spooky fall read too!

Flabbergasted. The Last Huntress by Lenore Borja was a ride. I requested it on NetGalley based off the cover and a quick skim of the synopsis. And I was NOT expecting what I got. I loved it. The constant plot twists and secrets Borja sprung on had me reading for dear life. Some elements of the book made me think of *shivers* skin walkers. Or as some like to call them…flesh pedestrians.

There is one scene from earlier on in the book that will stick to me forever. All I will say is child and a mirror. When you read you’ll know.

Lenore put so much thought and research into this story to make it possible and as amazing as it is. The story contains Greek mythology, and without spoiling anything that’s all I will say. But it is obvious she has a plethora of knowledge of mythology to be able to write such an amazing book.

The book follows Alice. Her reflection in the mirror is changing. It’s scary. She doesn’t understand why. Until she finally accepts what is happening and speaks to the other her. What follows has Alice questioning what she truly knows. With her new found family (best friends), Alice must play her role in a deal made with the Gods, even if it means losing those she loves most.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me this ARC, and this doesn't influence my review. This was a good read, we love strong female leads and romance! This book did have some twists which made me feel a bit confused.

I couldn’t even make it through the first chapter of this without skimming. I wanted to make it far enough to see some of the premise unfold but the writing was just so grating to me, and it made me hate Alice almost right off the bat.
Strange vibes and stuff start happening pretty much *immediately* but there’s no sense of atmosphere so it reads like confused nonsense.
At the end of the first chapter there is some sort of bizarre Insta love and I just am not interested.

I thought about trying to give this a chance but seems like a waste of effort when I already hate it so much

The Last Huntress is a novel that fuses Greek Mythology with urban fantasy. Alice moves to a new town where strange occurrences lead her into a journey where she must battle demons, vengeful Gods and angry Furies in order to save her soul mates soul.

It sounds great, but unfortunately this novel just didn't work for me. I felt the characters lacked any depth and I honestly didn't care for them or the journey they went on. There was a great deal of telling and not showing. Plot points just happened and the novel just got more confusing as it went on.

I did like how the novel explored the friendship between the four girls and the idea for the story was really intriguing. I know some people will really like this story, but it just wasn't one I enjoyed.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an Arc in return for an honest review.

I liked the idea behind this book and what the plot could have been. I think that there was a little too much info dump and random things put in where the plot wasn't supported in the way that it should have been. It almost seemed like it was rushed into writing. I did think it could have been better if it was written with a little more details and not so much randomness.

I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of reading this book. The way it was written made everything from the character development to the romance parts of the book feel like I was experiencing them first hand. The “realm” really comes to life in the authors writing, it makes you feel as if you’re not only along for the journey emotionally, but somehow there physically as well. Some of the plot twists made my stomach churn and had me a little angry with the author for doing that to me (lol) but that’s how I know it was a worthwhile read. It takes a very talented author to bring such strong emotions out in a reader. Well worth it. Can’t wait to see if there’s a book 2.

I received an ARC of The Last Huntress from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

I hate not finishing advanced copies of the books I requested. It feels like I'm doing a disservice to the author and the book itself because I initially wanted to read it. But I got 50% of the way done with The Last Huntress, and I couldn't do it anymore.

Let me start by saying that the premise was intriguing. I believe the story was very original and well thought out, and I liked the use of Greek mythology as a basis for the magic and reasons for things happening. However, I felt that the execution was what was lacking. This book read like a middle-grade story, but its characters were 17-18 years old and graduating high school. The writing was very simple and straightforward, more tell than show. I guess I was expecting it to be more mature than it was.

Next, the characters themselves didn't feel like they had much depth. We don't know anything about most of their backgrounds; they all felt interchangeable. There were differences between them here and there, but nothing that really made them stick out from the others. It also liked to throw in a mention of Alice's parents occasionally, but the other characters just don't have parents or something because almost all other parental figures were left out of the picture. I get that it's not super fun to read about teenagers' interactions with their parents, but a passing mention would've helped the believability immensely.

My biggest issue, and it's an unfortunately common one for me, was the romance. Whoa, baby, does The Last Huntress have a severe case of insta-love. Probably thirty pages in, Alice has talked to this guy on the side of the road for half a second, and he's the greatest thing to have ever happened to her. I'm going to be honest, in the half of the book I read, Colin treated her like garbage. I did not like him, and that made it even harder for me to want to root for them to be together. I have no issue with romance, but it has to be done well and be mostly believable. This romance was neither of those things. It made me cringe.

I really wanted to like The Last Huntress because the premise was intriguing, and I love a good Greek mythology retelling. But I had more things stopping me from reading than convincing me to continue, and I had to put it down.

It was a really interesting concept with the mirrors and huntress but the writing is very young YA and I found a bit dragged out at some points. The love interests are cute and I get why their relationship is ‘intense’ from the beginning but it did feel like a switch flipped from enemies to lover kind of vibe rather than a natural relationship developing. Also, their is no real description of Colin beyond blue eyes and long eyelashes. What does this man look like?

Thank you so much for approving me for this ARC!

Sadly, I was unable to finish this book due to a lot of issues I found in the writing or characters. At first I was head over heels because I was just like, "Oh yay, this writing has such a nostalgic YA feel without the problematic stuff' but then not even 20% through the only POC character had a physical description that consisted of calling her features exotic. Thats basically it.

Secondly, we got zero physical descriptions of the love interest Collin minus his blue eyes which didn't make sense. I feel like if he plays that big a role in the story he deserves a description. Even David got one. I feel like the descriptions in general in this story were too rushed.

Lastly, I just felt like the writing was too young for me. If the author had taken more time with them, beefed them up a bit, then the writing wouldn't have felt as juvenile (and this is coming from someone who exclusively reads YA.)

However, I DID love the concept and the premise was really interesting and unique in of itself. But the problems with the writing were too much for me and I ended up DNF-ing around the 35% mark. I think if you like this story idea, you should give it a shot with an open-mind. These are issues I personally found bothersome but other people may not.

I want to clarify too that I am not spreading hate, only giving my subjective opinions.

Thank you again for my ARC. I would be interested in checking out Lenore's future works.

Captivating, emotional, interesting dynamics with the characters, and cool action. Sweet and touching romance too! Great book in equally great series.

Alice Daniels is the feminist icon we all need, she is powerful and determined. The representation of female friendship is what young women need to see in today's society and the sprinkling of romance made this book even more magical.
