Rebecca Ross really just has a way with words. Her stories are always luscious and beautifully written. A River Enchanted was one of my top reads last year and the sequel was a wonderful way to wrap up the ending.

I really enjoyed the conflicts that arose and the mysteries that were surrounding the island and it’s inhabitants. The dual story’s were done well. I appreciated how Adaira and Jack maintained their devotion for each other while facing their own hardships. I also loved Sidra and Torin. Their story also found themselves facing hardships but you could feel their love throughout the story. Both couples are often apart in this book but it never feels desolate. It made us readers appreciate when they could finally be reunited.

I will say this story revolves more on the spirits and I really enjoyed that. Their involvement in the conflict added another layer to things and often brought more brutal aspects. I found the mythology/ lore fascinating and I really felt compassion for many of the spirits. Kae is definitely a new favorite character of mine!

I did see the “plot” twist coming but it didn’t diminish my enjoyment. I thought the ending happened a bit fast and would have liked to see / feel a little bit more from the “shocking” event. It wrapped up very quickly at the end. I would have liked to see maybe an epilogue of a year later or something to check in with our main characters.

Overall it was a great story and I think a satisfying ending to The Elements of Cadence. If you loved the first book I think you’ll really enjoy this one.

4.5/5 rounding up

This book is a perfect ending to the duology of Cadence. I always get nervous about sequels - especially ending sequels - because I am often disappointed compared to the first books, but A Fire Endless beautifully told the story. Ross's writing is clear, descriptive, and conveys emotions, just like song lyrics. Her descriptions, particularly of Cadence and the spirits feel so tangible, and the character development is clear and linear. I love how the emotions and voices of characters shine through so clearly. Overall a perfect ending to a beautiful and truly magical series, and I cannot wait to reread this series - it is one that I will come back to again and again. Thank you to netgalley and Harper Collins for an advanced copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

My heart is destroyed that this story is over. Cadence, the spirits, the clans… everything about this story that Ross has crafted is so magical and stunning. I grew to love every character for their strengths and flaws. Having the internal dialogue of all the characters, and it being communicated flawlessly, is hard to do with the amount of characters Ross focused on. However, I knew these characters. I felt their pain. Their stories resonated with me. The world she has built trapped me within the pages.

First of all, I was so excited when I saw that I was approved for this book! I absolutely adored "A River Enchanted" and was thrilled when I saw there was going to be a sequel.

This book did not disappoint one bit. I was enthralled in the action, and the plot. You get to learn more about the Breccan clan and Tamerlaines clan. You also get to know more about the spirits. I loved how you go to see more of relationship and love between Adriana and Jack, Torin and Sidra. You see Adriana grow and change through out the book. They are many different battles going on and it keeps you so engaged that I loved this book. Even more than I did the first one.

How can an author follow up with a sequel that is as captivating as the original? This was my biggest question as I started reading A Fire Endless. I wanted so much more when I read the final words of A River Enchanted and Fire did not disappoint. Rebecca Ross did many things extremely well with her second installment of the story of Cadence and the clan line that divides the eastern Tamerlaine clan and the western Breccan clan. This book is much darker in terms of content and also much more emotional with its characters. I will admit that at times I had trouble really feeling the physical connection between Jack and Adaira in River. They were clearly bonded to one another emotionally but the whole “love and desire” aspect was a stretch. Fire takes things to a completely new level for that relationship. Actually all the main characters’ relationships were given more depth and complexity which I enjoyed. I would give this book a 4.99 star review as one part of the ending I felt was a bit weak. I hope Ross isn’t finished with Cadence because I would be happy visit the island again in the future.

5/5 stars

Wow, once I got reacquainted with the world and rules I fell in love with it all over again! The author does a great job of weaving multiple stories together. The dual stories support and compliment each other. Adaira and Jack have such a beautiful and wholesome relationship. I really enjoyed that they had struggles but worked through them together. Sidra and Torin are also thrown through challenges that they must work through separately. I really enjoyed the growth all the characters had throughout the book.

Adaira had a hard choice going to the west. We don’t see her mope or complain. Instead she does her best to make the best of it. It’s always hard when the two main characters are separated. I feel like the author did a good job of filling that time and space with meaningful scenes that moved the story along. It also wasn’t an unbearable time frame of them being separated. Jack has a lot of hard decisions to make and doesn’t take them lightly. I really enjoyed his storyline and how he put everything together. As well as his commitment to Adaira.

Sidra and Torin are mostly separate this book but it honestly didn’t feel that way. You could still feel the love for each other as they worked through different challenges. I am glad Torin had a more active role in the plot! He was fun to follow and get in the head of.

Overall I loved this story and the characters! The author did a great job of making you connect to each one with so much going on. The end was wrapped up nicely and I really enjoyed that there was no fluff. Every chapter had a purpose to further the plot. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

A Fire Endless was an amazing conclusion to the Elements of Cadence duology. A River Enchanted was one of my favorite reads of last year, and after the cliffhanger I was so excited to get an ARC of this one. In this book, I think the characters were fleshed out a little more; in A River Enchanted, we didn't get as much of Adaira's POV, and I personally wasn't as attached to Sidra and Torin. This book had a lot more of Adaira's POV since she and Jack were separated, and I really liked seeing the different culture of the West as well as Adaira's relationship with her birth parents. Jack and Adaira's relationship also grew and changed even though they were apart for a portion of the book, as did Sidra and Torin's.
I really loved the ending, and even though everything seemed to be completely resolved, I would love more books set in Cadence, and I hope Rebecca Ross writes more adult books; I love her YA books too, but I think the world of Cadence/relationships between the characters were far more intricate than in her YA books.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Harper Voyager for the ARC of A Fire Endless.

4/5 stars. I read the first book (A River Enchanted) in this series last year from Book of the Month. It sounded interesting, and I ended up loving it. I am not a huge fantasy reader, but I really enjoyed the story. I highly recommend reading the first book in this series before starting this one.
This book follows Adaira, Jack, Sidra and Torin again as they work to defeat King Bane and try to get the island to live in peace. I love Rebecca Ross's writing style, and flew through this book.

Rebecca Ross has solidified herself as one of my favourite writers with A Fire Endless— the poetic, emotive sequel to A River Enchanted.

I finished this book last night and my heart is still aching with it. I genuinely loved every moment and am in awe of her ability to craft such a beautiful story with so many POVs and intersecting plot lines. I am (as a rule) not a fan of ensemble casts but something about the way she does it really converts me. I loved being back in the minds of familiar characters and absolutely adore how Ross chose to follow two couples in her story. Jack and Adaira, Torin and Sidra’s POVs each brought so much to the story, and I loved how the difference between their relationships were shown. Jack & Adaira’s love was characterised by passion and longing, the willingness to go the extra mile for the other a foundation to their relationship. They’re upfront and vocal with each other, both figuring out their relationship and their own place in the world.

Torin and Sidra were quieter, more established. Their love is a practiced kind of relationship. It’s made of sturdier stuff and has the foundation to go the difference. They’re no less in love than Jack and Adaira, it’s just a quieter, steadfast version. Rebecca Ross writes love and yearning so, so well and the relationships were easily my favourite part of the duology.

It’s rare to find a book that centres so much on its characters that also has a well-rounded, pacey plot, but A Fire Endless definitely does it! The story was the perfect culmination to the tension and stakes laid out in its predecessor, and I was fully enthralled the whole time. Scottish mythology is something I love reading about (especially when there’s a magical element) and I adored how well researched that part of the story was.

Overall, A Fire Endless was an easy five star read for me and I can’t wait to read whatever else Rebecca Ross may publish!

A beautiful and stunning conclusion to the duology. A Fire Endless is lyrical and atmospheric. The storyline weaves together beautifully and the characters are well developed.

A Fire Endless is the sequel to A River Enchanted which introduced us to a myriad of wonderful characters. The sequel focuses more on the story of Turin and Sidra which I really enjoyed. But the story of Jack and Adaira is what I came for. There was much about Adaira and that was great. I liked seeing her grow and learning about her family and the Breccans in the West. In this sequel I felt Jack’s character was secondary and I wanted to see more growth from him. This is still a really good book, though. I listened to A River Enchanted on audio and I can’t wait until this one is released on audio, also.

Rebecca Ross has slayed me once again. This continuation of her duology was so heart-wrenching. The conflict and the characters were so nuanced and compelling, and her vivid descriptions and grounded magic set the scene perfectly. I felt like I was right beside the characters on Cadence as they weathered the storm of conflict. Cannot recommend this series highly enough as an excellent story about both found and blood family and the magical ties that bind people together.

This book is EVERYTHING! A River Enchanted was one of my top reads of this year and A Fire Endless was just as good, if not better. I will read anything that Rebecca Ross writes. The story is so full of magic and beauty and the character growth was incredible. There are a few new characters introduced, but we mainly stick with the people we know from the first book, and I loved going on their journeys with them. The relationships are perfect and I did not want to leave this world. There were a few things that I didn't see coming, but the story is written in such a way that you can figure out what is happening right along with the characters, and I love that. I was very satisfied with the conclusion to this duology and I recommend it to everyone. So good!

Honest review in exchange for receiving an ARC from NetGalley.

It's interesting to think now that I almost didn't read this Duology to begin with. I ordered A River Enchanted from the Library when it was first coming out but it took a while before I got the motivation to read it (because mood reading). I almost didn't because I wasn't sure I'd like it but I did and thankfully I was very wrong and glad I decided to read it after all. Once I finished I immediately added A Fire Endless to my TBR and preordered it for December.

A Fire Endless was a perfect sequel in that it was better than the first book which is always good for a series. The series should always get better with the next book and Rebecca Ross definitely accomplished that. I read this book in a little over a day. I got to about 15% the first day and read almost all day the next.

A Fire Endless sees us return to Cadence where on the West Adaira is trying to find her place among them but struggling because the culture of the West is far different from the East where she grew up. Much like the first book there is a problem in the land but this time it affects both East and West (though they don't know that until later). We see all our characters continue their stories. Adaira trying to find her place in the West. Jack unmotivated to play or sing and later sent West by a spirit to find answers for what's affecting the isle. Torin trying to adjust to being Laird and later also getting an assignment from the spirits. And Sidra trying to find a cure for this strange illness that's slowly affecting more people. We see more from the West side and also get more perspective into how the divide began and how things in the spirit world are. We also see the possibility for unity as the illness affects both sides and as we see how the rift first began.

The near ending was definitely one of those "I feel like the author is going a certain way but I hope I'm wrong" and as some of the best authors do Rebecca Ross manages to turn it around and lets you breath a sigh of relief that it didn't go the direction you were afraid it may be going.

I give 4.5 rounded up to 5 because my only critique is I wish she would've written more and let us see more of what happened after the events of the ending/how Cadence changed for the better. Even an Epilogue would've been welcome.

All in all I loved this series. I already bought the first book and will definitely keep the second on pre-order for December.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a requested advance copy for review. All opinions are my own.

This was absolutely perfect. Hauntingly beautiful, magical, evocative, heartbreaking and heartwarming. It was a wonderful conclusion to the duology that was well-earned. I’m not even sure I have words to describe the lyrical writing and the emotional impact of the story. The journeys, struggles, and hard choices that Jack, Adaira, Sidra, and Torin all must go through were heartbreaking but ultimately triumphant. Our couples are separated during large sections of the book, so their reunions and time together were that much sweeter and poignant.
Honestly, just do yourself a favor and read these books; they are amazing!

A Fire Endless was an awesome sequel to the A River Enchanted and conclusion to the duology. The story followed Jack, Adaira, Torin, and Sidra on their separate journeys to defeat King Bane and restore peace to the isle. I really enjoyed how much depth we got in this book with the characters emotions - especially Torin. I feel like we got to know Torin's softer side in this book, which made it so much sweeter when we saw moments with Sidra. I also loved that Frae's sections got more complex but still retained her childlike perspective, which was so unique and interesting in the larger scheme of the book.

If I had any complaints, it would be that it felt like a bit too much was happening in the first half of the book. While plots eventually aligned, it took me quite a while to get through the first half just because it was hard to keep track of timelines. But it was worth it for that conclusion!

This was a wonderful follow up to “A River Enchanted” and it was sad to say goodbye to this world. While it had its slow moments, the way the setting and scenery was described made up for it. You felt like you were there in the moment. I wasn’t expecting the twists towards the end and was pleased with how it ended. Definitely a worthwhile read.

Did I just finish this book and immediately burst into tears? Big yes. What a book!!

All the feels in this story. So many twists and turns.

I may try and write a more detailed and coherent review after I’ve processed it more… I may just leave it at this: Rebecca Ross wrote a stunning duology that I know I will come back to again and again.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this advance copy.

I am crying because this was so damn perfect. I just want to carry these characters with me forever. It would be impossible to pick a favorite character because Adaira, Jack, Sidra, Torin, and Frae are all fantastic in their individual way and each character arc equally compelling. This has been a year of hit or miss sequels for me and this one, thankfully, blew me away. Ross has a lyrical and beautiful way of writing, the words steaming together like a song. A River Enchanted raised a lot of questions for me but A Fire Endless answered every single one, leaving no stone unturned. I loved that we got to see more of the spirit word, one of the aforementioned questions I had, and I think Torin was the perfect character to walk us through that journey. I actually preferred this book to the first one. The last couple chapters had me in tears! A perfect conclusion to the duology and this will forever be one of my favorites. I just know I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time.
