This is one of those books that I plan to listen to on audio, I think I would love it so much more in audio format.

A tale of 5 friends who go for a camping trip that ends in one of them missing. This story follows a group of teenagers as they recount a camping trip to police detectives. Each one has their own opinions of what happened as well as their own story. Through a series of questions, the truth is slowly revealed. Was Maylee taken by a bigfoot, taken by a hunter in the area, attacked by a wild animal or did she simply leave the campsite? As the friends search for her, a series of events occurs which ultimately leads to uncovering the truth. A quick read that holds your attention as you try to figure it all out.

I went into Tell Me What Really Happened blind and I really think that is what made me love it so much. Told in an interview format, it was a quick read that made you keep turning the pages. This book would be the perfect summer read for the beach or any summer vacation.

I won't go into a ton of details because I fee like thrillers are so much better when you go in blind and just kind of go with it. Basically five kids go into the woods an only four come out. One of the major complaints that other readers had was how the characters acted but these are teenagers, they don't always think logically.

This was a fun, fast-paced YA read. I know it will be a popular one in my high school library. Unique characters and engaging plot.

Thank you to NetGalley, Chelsea Sedoti, and sourcebooks for an advanced copy of Tell Me What Really Happened.

Tell Me What Really happened is about a group of “friends” who go camping over night and end up regretting every single decision they make. The book was pretty typical of other books in this genre, and could pretty much be summed up as “teenagers make really stupid decisions.”

Unfortunately for me, I just didn’t super enjoy this one. I only liked one of the characters in the book and the ending absolutely was mind boggling to me and not necessarily in a good way.

However, I really liked the formatting of the book and how it was told through witness statements. That was something I hadn’t seen before and I thought it gave the book something unique.

Overall I didn’t really enjoy this one, but I didn’t dislike it either. A good read if you’re looking for something quick!

Tell Me What Really Happened is an engaging and fun YA mystery told exclusively through police interviews. The concept is great, the execution even better, and the characters are so different from each other that you can tell whose point of view is being shown even without looking at their name in the heading!

It tells the story of Maylee, who disappeared whilst the group of interviewees were camping with her. She’s a popular, divisive girl, who I was able to paint a crystal clear picture of in my head. This is despite never hearing directly from her! One description of her that particularly stood out to me involved Petra comparing her to her old family dog. It was perfect within its context and such an original, even poignant, metaphor that I really loved.

The book kept me enthralled from the very beginning, thanks to its entertaining characters and ongoing mystery, and I was more than excited every time I encountered a plot twist. The ending was brilliantly foreshadowed, in such a way that I predicted several elements of it, but it included enough surprises that it didn’t once feel boring or obvious.

I really enjoyed this story and would happily read a prequel about Maylee, or even a sequel involving the unlikely crew’s further adventures. Who doesn’t want to carry on reading about a lesbian with a Republican dad, a Bigfoot-obsessed teenager and two (almost normal) other protagonists?!

***** I have received and read an e - ARC from NetGalley in exchange for giving my honest feedback. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.*****

I like the classic mystery/thriller setup- friends go camping in the woods and one ends up missing.

I like the way the book is written- a series of police interviews with the returning campers.

I do NOT like the characters. It could have been me , but I just couldn’t really connect with any of them.

Overall, I’d give it a 2.5/5 (rounded to 3/5), mostly because the unique style of writing outweighed my dislike of the characters and kept me going past where I would have normally put it down.

Tell Me What Really Happened by Chelsea Sedoti is a fun YA Mystery set during a camping trip in the middle of the woods where people are rumored to have disappeared. The whole story is told in the form of police interviews which I thought was a really unique way to tell the story. I really disliked some of the characters, and the big foot angle was weird, but it was an enjoyable read.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

I was in a big reading slump as of late so I thought I'd give this book a try. I had trouble putting it down! The writing style was different but I loved the way it worked out. Even though it was told from the perspective of 4 characters it flowed very well, didn't feel disconnected and wasn't confusing keeping track of who was saying what. Similarly it felt like each character really had their own dialogue cadence specific to them. This was a good read and looking forward to reading more from this author!

A fast paced thriller about a camping trip in the woods in which one of their friends goes missing. I wanted to like this a lot more than I did but I felt it was a little predictable and i expected there to be a lot of "unreliable narrator" kind of stuff going on through the writing format of police interviews. Normally, I like that sort of thing because it makes me question everyone, but it fell flat.

Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this eARC.

A couple of teenagers go camping in the woods around Salvation Creek even though there's so many stories about people who have gone missing. Well on this camping trip, one girl goes missing. Now the whole group is getting interviewed by the police.

I loved the synopsis. I was expecting something similar to "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder". Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. All the characters were unlikable and I stopped reading a little less than half way through, because I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style.

Enter 5 so-called friends who decide to go on a last minute camping trip. The aspiring influencer and their ambitious boyfriend, the best friend and their conspiracy theorist brother, and the secret ex-girlfriend. What spells disaster more than that? When the influencer Maylee winds up missing, the remaining four are interviewed by the police and the stores start to unfold. In the police's words, tell me what really happened!
This book kept me guessing until the very end. It was a fun, quick read, but unfortunately not one that will be very memorable.

This book certainly did not disappoint! I loved the somewhat supernatural feel of this book and how it continuously shifted between narratives, so you could perceive how each teen felt emotionally, and what their personalities were like. This book kept my attention all throughout and had me guessing until the very end. A very interesting read indeed, I highly recommend if you enjoyed One of Us is Lying.

I read this book thanks to Netgalley! Five kids go for a camping trip but only four come back out. The police are questioning all four to determine what exactly happened to Maylee Hayes. I love the writing style in this book! First person pov for the four teens all from the perspective of being questioned and interrogated by the police. This was also a super fast read which i enjoyed. I loved the changing pov and trying to figure out exactly what happened. I think there were just enough clues to solve the case but not give the ending away.

This book was really good. I was not sure about the writing at first but it really drew me in pretty fast. I thought the way this book was done was unique.

Thank you to Chelsea, Sourcebooks, and Netgalley for an advance copy of Tell Me What Really Happened.

Maylee wanted to take a camping trip to get away from everything. Just her, her boyfriend, three of her friends, and the wilderness. Some booze, a fire, good times. Except that nothing ever goes to plan, and after some alcohol-fueled arguing Maylee takes off in the woods and does not return to camp.

The four remaining members of the camping party are now suspects - suspects with very different versions of the evening’s events.

Four interviews are conducted over the course of several hours in the wake of Maylee’s disappearance as police work to piece together the truth and get to the bottom of what really happened.

The format of this book is *chef’s kiss* I love unconventional formatting and an entire book told through police interrogation was a new one for me. It also speaks volumes to Chelsea’s ability to tell a story when that is the only method being used. It’s also a fun way to read a book when you’re busy or multitasking. The interview format is easy to digest and easy to get through chapters while not feeling like you’ve rushed or missed key moments.

The twist was solid, I did not see it coming. There was a good amount of YA fun and angst. I am loving the trend of thrillers revolving around camping, the sense of isolation adds so much atmosphere.

You would think that this format would not give you the ability to connect with characters, but that was not the case for this book. I still felt as though I got to know all the parties. On top of that, you also get a little sneak peek into their psyche as they describe the events and their peers.

Tell Me What Happened is a story of teenagers on the woods in the Pacific Northwest, and one goes missing and is found dead. The story is told via police interviews, which I really liked. It was unique and it was interesting seeing the evolution of the characters emotions towards each other and the awful situation they find themselves in.

So why the 2 star review? There was WAY too much talk of Big Foot. I get the fascination, but it was just too much. This book could have easily been a 4 star read, but the one character bringing up Big Foot just about every time they spoke had me rolling my eyes.

As long as having a character obsessed with Big Foot isn't a running theme in Chelsea Sedoti's books, I'll read another from her. I can tell she is very talented, and the overall story was good... but had I turned reading the book into a drinking game where I took a drink every time Big Foot was mentioned... well, I wouldn't be writing this review, because I would have died from alcohol poisoning.

This was a solid YA murder mystery novel. It confirmed that I never want to go camping but it had great pacing and interesting characters. I really enjoyed how the entire novel was written as 4 teens being interviewed by the police. It had a lot of great twists and turns and I definitely recommend this for lovers of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder or Karen Mc Manus fans!

I raced through this book! The format was unusual and so compelling. We follow 4 teens as they are being interviewed by the police about the disappearance (or death?) of their friend. What exactly happened in the woods? Who is telling the truth? There's a hint of the paranormal in the shape of a possible Bigfoot sighting that will have readers wondering what really happened up until the very end!

I received this and as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for giving me access.

The first person police interviews were an interesting writing style choice. If you aren't a fan of reading this book in print, I would encourage you to listen to the audiobook as I found it easier to process and more enjoyable.

As we listen to the individual statements, we find that everyone had their secrets, including the missing person in question. There were some farfetched moments and parts that could have been expanded on more. The ending was a little anticlimactic as I was hoping for more (I don't want to spoil it).

Overall, I enjoyed Tell Me What Really Happened and hope to read more books in this first person interview style.
