The second in The Bryonic Book Club series features Lucy Bertram's love story.

Curled up with an Earl is romantic and just as entertaining as the first book, Up All Night with a Good Duke. I absolutely adored the romance between Lucy and Will. Their chemistry blazes through the pages. There is yearning, longing and incredible foreplay leading-up to their magical night of love making.

This romantic mystery is a wonderful addition to the series, and my favorite thus far. I look forward to Tall, Duke and Scandalous, The Byronic Book Club, #3.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca for the complimentary copy.

This was a lovely and intriguing read with a gorgeous hero who seems too good to be true and an intelligent heroine, with a frightening level of knowledge on poisons. There is mystery and intrigue with a nasty villain to boot. Great story line O couldn't wait to get into as well. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I was thrilled to get this ARC because I adored the first book in this series. "Up All Night with a Good Duke" was one of my favorites last year. I was adding the rest of Ms. Bennett's catalog to my TBR pile before it was halfway through! This is another well-plotted romance that is not to be missed!

Lucy Bertram, botanist, spinster and member of the trio of ladies known as the "Byronic Book Club" has a problem, the handsome new groom her father has hired is consuming all her thoughts while her father is trying to marry her off to a total jerk.

William Lockheart, the Earl of Kyle, has two problems. There's a poisoner on the loose threatening members of the peerage and he's undercover posing as a groom to catch the killer and he's falling for the captivating daughter of his employer who needs rescuing of her own.

None of these things is actually a problem, it's just a really good historical romance plot! That's why you'll remember it and all the characters by the time the next book in the series comes out. That is so rare with these kinds of series. They all blend together after a while, but the Byronic babes and their leading men stand out.

I highly recommend you curl up with this Earl ASAP! It's not to be missed for fans of the spicy genre.

This is the second book in The Byronic Club series. Both books are great. I love this story due to the H and h. Lucy Bertram is a very special lady that is taken advantage of by her father. She has helped him in his work for years and he gives her no credit or praise. She is twenty-eight years old, has never been kissed or had a suitor. She is a true bluestocking happy with her books either reading Gothic Romances and writing and reading scientific articles. She is very knowledgeable of many kinds of poisons and plants. She is very upset as her brother; Monty had a fight with their father and left months ago. She knows he has little money and hasn’t heard from him. Her father will not tell her anything about the fight. The household is short of funds and he will not discuss it either. Now he wants to marry her off to an opinionated, rude, older man to save the family!! She needs to find her brother to help save her.
Willam Lockhart is the Earl of Kyle. He never got along with his father or grandfather and has left the title to be a solider and now works for the crown. There has been threatening letters sent to a number of the members of the Linnean Society. Now one has been poisoned! The top suspect is none other than Lucy’s father. Sir Oswald is a famous Botanists with not only the knowledge but has a garden of plants all of which could kill. He is sent in as the head groom to find evidence against him. He had no idea that his daughter was so beautiful, smart and desirable too. He knows he should keep away from her but the draw is too strong. Neither seems to be able to stay away from the other. As they spend more time together and let secrets, confidences out they can’t leave the other alone. William will protect her no matter what.
This is a very engaging story, with the missing brother, the evil older suitor who is up to something, to the growing passion between our couple. So many twists and turns with mystery and intrigue too. You will not be able to put this book down. I was drawn in on the first page.
Loved how both Will and Lucy grow, learn what it really important and find what both needed in their life's. Wonderful book and series. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. The series doesn’t have to be read in order. For those who like to know this is a steamy story with lots of passion.

At Twenty-Eight, Miss Lucinda “Lucy” Bertram is content with her life, she is a gifted botanist who acts as a research assistant to her father but she longs to travel and be recognized for her accomplishments, rather than be hidden by her father’s shadow. She is sure that marriage is not in her future, even if her dear friend Artemis has recently married and is now touting marital bliss. She is too busy to explore the possibility and has bigger things to worry about, such as her brother Monty’s disappearance and her father’s refusal to discuss him, not to mention their abysmal finances, so finding a husband is the last thing on her mind, especially when she has never met a man that even remotely tempted her. But when her gig gets stuck in the mud and her attempts to free it lands her in the mud as well, a stranger with blue eyes and a Scottish brogue takes charge and might just be the man to change her mind about men and marriage.

William “Will” Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle is on a mission for Scotland Yard, a member of the Linnean Society was poisoned and Lucy’s father, Sir Oswald, an expert in botanical poisons is their prime suspect. Will comes to Fleetwood Hall disguised as a groom, he expects this to be a simple case, he will investigate Sir Oswald and find proof that he is the killer, but he didn’t count on his reaction to Lucy. He met her months ago while posing as an American industrialist and was attracted to her, but now that he has gotten to know her, he will do whatever is necessary to keep her, especially when her father begins to pressure her to marry one of his fellow society members. She asks for his help in finding her brother, who she is sure will side with her against the marriage. But to keep Lucy, Will will have to reveal his true identity and hope she can forgive his deception and change her mind about marriage, but first, he has a killer to catch.

OMG – It is only February and I think I may have read the best book of the year already – Seriously. I loved this book so much, it was well-written, nicely paced, and was just such a delight to read. Lucy and Will are extremely likable and their relationship progressed at a believable pace, the attraction was immediate, but their love and their physical relationship developed a bit slower and felt stronger thanks to that wait. This book has a bit of everything; secrets, poison, spies, murder, steamy love scenes, cameos with the other members of the Byronic Book Club, a villain that is truly insane, blackmail, and finally a sigh-worthy ending with one of the best declaration scenes I have ever read, as well as an epilogue. This is the second book in the series, but could easily be read as a standalone title. I highly recommend this title, in my opinion, this book is a must-read and definitely a keeper that I plan to re-read many times. Think I am being overly gushing? Read the book and you will see why!

A spinster, a spy and a mystery....

Lucy, a spinster, with dwindling family funds, manages her father's household, knows more about poisionous plants and writes all his papers and preps his slides. She's clever, hardworking and just met the new stablehand. William, an Earl, a spy and a master of disguise, is smitten with Lucy, but is at Lucy's house as he is investigating her father, who he suspects in a murder mystery involving poison.
The story is strongest when Lucy and William are interacting and wanes a bit when it comes to the mystery solving (since that was way too easy).
Recommend.

This is book 2 in the Byronic Bookclub series. The series is about 3 woman who are highly intelligent blue stockings. They have vowed to continue their educational efforts and never to marry. Book 1 was about Artemis. Book 2 is about Lucy. This can be read as a stand alone.
Wii, the Earl of Kyle, is anything but an Earl. He's been many things. A soldier (a major in the Scots Grey's), a spy ( working for the home office and the foreign office), and basically an undercover detective for Scotland yard.
Lucy is a bluestocking who's knowledge in poisons and herbs is surpassed by no one. She aids her father, Sir Oswald, in his work but she is really the girl behind the man.
These two come together while Will is investigating a murder of a Peer, who was poisoned. He suspects, Sir Oswald and infiltrates the household as a groom.
They have a very nice first meeting and you can feel the chemistry between them right away.
So you have the romance and you have the mystery.
I loved the two main characters. I thought they were both intelligent and they both shared everything about each other once they decided to pursue a relationship. Up front from that point forward, no miscommunication.
I have enjoyed this series tremendously. I can't wait for Jane's book.

First, I absolutely loved the first book in this series. This one I did not like as much but it was still an enjoyable read. Low-angst, very low. Will and Lucy are two very sweet characters. The beginning was a little slow but once Will reveals himself it takes off. The intrigue was great. This definitely has a “you know it” villain and they are so bad! A really nice read.

I’ll admit, after reading Up All Night with a Good Duke, I was worried Lucy was going to be a somewhat immature and timid FMC. In some ways, she was a bit naive and while her creative “cursing” annoyed me (seriously, “fudge and fiddlesticks!”), I was pleased to see that she was more than the socially awkward, shy woman we’d seen previously. She is smart and accomplished and has dreams that she fights to achieve. Throughout the book she really grew into herself as a woman of independence in a time when that wasn’t acceptable. Will was a great partner for Lucy. He never became overly protective, always supported her, and even included her in his investigation because he valued her intelligence. I liked how their relationship developed. It wasn’t immediate, but when Lucy decided she wanted Will, she wasn’t going to let anything stand in her way. I did wish there had been less of Lucy’s internal struggle of “do I marry or do I have a career?” She had a perfect example of how to have both in her friend, Artemis, but I suppose when you only have one example of a life most look down on, it’s hard to make that decision.

I figured out the mystery very early on. It seemed very obvious to me what happened, so I wasn’t shocked or surprised when all is revealed. Honestly, I’d have rather spent more time with Will and the storyline of his grandfather than catching the bad guy. The grandfather storyline is never wrapped up, which is a bit frustrating considering it’s something Will obviously struggled with and led him down the path of investigations. I don’t understand why it was included if we don’t get a satisfactory answer to how things work out.

I missed the Byronic Book Club meetings. It’s been a while since I read the previous book, but I feel like they were included less in Curled Up with an Earl. I’m intrigued to see how Jane’s story is going to go, and hope we get more of Lucy and Artemis in that book!

Crown spy, William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle, is pretending to be a groom to gather evidence in an ongoing murder mystery. Little did he realize that the lovely Lucy Bertram would be such a distraction to the investigation. Will is investigating her father because of his expertise in poisons, but he's surprised to find that Lucy is also an expert in plant poisons. Can the shy beauty be an unwitting pawn in her father's scheme or is there another villain Will has yet to uncover?

This was an enjoyable story although the romance between Will and Lucy was more of an insta-love story. I would have liked the attraction phase last a little longer before the passionate kissing. The plot moves along at a good pace although I knew who the villain was early on. There were numerous twists and turns before Will and Lucy get their HEA.

My first Amy Rose Bennett novel delivered all the things I love about historical romance: excellent writing, interesting and complicated characters I grew to love, a cast of memorable secondary characters who help move the story forward, wit, and steamy times wrapped in a very sweet love. This one also had an element of palpable danger (poisons!) and mystery that hooked me from the start. I loved it, highly recommend and plan to read more by this author! I received a complementary copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Can they find a way to get what they both want …

It is a sort of insta-chemistry romance.
Upon Lucy meeting Will, they are drawn to each other, even if they have both many things on their plates.
Lucy is a practical woman, she has her own dreams but knows also her sex is cage for any scientific aspiration she might have. She has learned to make do, to adapt her wishes and adjust their lives to their limited means, to answer her father’s many demands, to dodge the would-be suitors she is presented to but now she feels like she has reached a wall.
Her father is no more the caring sire of her youth, he asks for more and more without a word of appreciation and now he is determined to throw her to the wolf with a very arrogant, demeaning candidate seeking her unwilling hand.

Will has made a life for himself away from his kin, still hurt from an event from his past than left him estranged from his remaining relative. After the army, he changed one duty to another with always the same goal, protect his country.
Why he is now seeking to uncover who is behind a murder and death threats against researchers.
He did not expect to fall for his target’s daughter.

Their relationship move smoothly, the instant-pull they feel helping them to build a bridge between their positions and come close quickly. Yet they have each their own agenda, until her struggles and his investigation cross path.
When Will finally shares the reason behind his presence in her home, the story takes a more entertaining turn as they work together to unearth the who, why and therefore.
The author delivers a pleasant tale mixing equally romance and sleuthing.

Miss Lucy Bertram is content to spend her days writing scientific articles or curling up with a Gothic romance novel. When her father, the eccentric botanist Sir Oswald, insists she accept the suit of a wealthy industrialist to save the family from penury, Lucy decides to act. She's certain her disowned brother, Monty, will take her side. But first she must find him in St. Giles's cutthroat rookeries. A covert agent for the Crown, William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle, is on the hunt for a ruthless killer determined to destroy the Linnean Society. Sir Oswald, a botanical poisons expert, is the prime suspect. Posing as a groom in the baronet's household, it shouldn't take Will long to unearth the evidence Scotland Yard needs. If only the beguiling Miss Bertram wasn't so damn distracting…
As an unexpected but undeniable passion flares between Lucy and Will, confidences are exchanged and dark secrets come to light.
The second book in the series & it could easily be read on its own. Another very well written romance with strong characters & love them or hate them, they were all well portrayed. I loved both Will & Lucy, they were perfect for each other, they were mature & they actually talked – yes they talked so there wasn’t the angst from miscommunication, which was very welcome & refreshingly different. I loved the chemistry between the pair & loved their journey to a HEA. I highly recommend this book it was just a joy to read

Another fabulous edition of The Byronic Book Club. Shy, quiet would-be botanist Lucy Bertam finally meets her match in the shade of a braw Scotsman, William Armstrong. Despite being of different classes, Lucy, a lady and Will a simple groom, the attraction flares. Their relationship when together could only be described as ‘light and playful and fun’ while still being hot as heck. Will instantly takes to his role as protector and indeed, when the villainous Mr.Thorn pushes for Lucy’s hand he quickly learns how much he has come to care for the girl. The truest delight of this story is in the authors departure for romance norm. Indeed the most prevalent trope in romance is miscommunication but by midpoint these two take the time to speak plainly and address any concerns. Seeing such open communication, aside Will constantly allowing Lucy to assist and treasuring her contributions, this was a true treasure. The addition of her best friends, Jane and Artemis was like a reunion of dear friends. I love the inclusion of past characters in a series, so this was a great. I am excited to see where Jane’s path leads.

This was a fun ride! I loved Lucy and Will’s instant connection, despite him being her family’s new groom. I really enjoyed the mystery elements and seeing Will try to solve the case. This was very instant attraction, but I still thought Lucy and Will worked out well. I loved romances, and particularly historical romances, with strong and smart women. This has been a great series for that and I hope Jane gets a book too!

I alternated between the ebook and audiobook. I enjoyed both, but the narrator is not my absolute favorite.

This book has a little mystery but not too much to take away from the romance and steam of this book. Lucy is almost on the shelf; she loves scientific articles and gothic romances. Her father is pushing her to marry a man who can save the family but he is not someone Lucy wants to marry. Will works for the government and his assignment is to find a killer. He believes the killer is in Lucy’s family’s home. Will goes undercover as a footman while he investigates. During his investigation, Lucy keeps distracting him. I enjoyed this book, and the time went very quickly while I was reading it.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advanced copy of #CurledUpWithAnEarl by Amy Rose Bennett in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I have to say that this series is so good! I just read book 1 (Up All Night With a Good Duke) a couple of days ago and this one is just as wonderful as the first in the series. I really like Bennett's prose. Her characters are fun, interesting, delightful and real. I love characters that I can relate to even though they are living in such a different world than I do. And can I just say that Ms. Bennett doesn't just tease you, she delivers and when she delivers, wow! You won't be disappointed.

I love this book group and how encouraging they are of each other. I can't wait for book 3 in this series (Jane's book). I'm also hoping we get Monty's story as well sometime. And oh wow, is that Will a total dreamboat. He is like an alpha cinnamon roll, if that's even possible.

This is a very solid, enjoyable historical romance. It might not break many molds, but it ended up as a very enjoyable way to spend our time!

Lucy is a bluestocking wallflower botanist who writes her father's research papers for him. Their area of expertise? Poisonous plants! When eminent scientist Charles Darwin is threatened, Will (Scottish marquess, heir to a dukedom, AND undercover agent for the crown) infiltrates Lucy's country home, posing as a groom. They're immediately attracted to each other and grow close based on several carriage rides (he's a groom and sometimes coachman, remember?) and late-night encounters in the kitchen (he keeps trying to sneak in to search her father's office, and she keeps making him warm milk).

The best part of the book is how Lucy deals with the eventual revelation of Will's true identity. Bennett takes what could be a fraught, angsty reveal and instead makes it into a refreshingly low-key encounter. (We love it when people in love actually love each other). This is a fun one!

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

“Curled Up with an Earl” by Amy Rose Bennett
Suspense and Spice
I liked the characters in this story. I truly liked not liking the villain of the piece. I did skip the spicy scenes which is easy to do with a print book. AND I really did like all the rest of the story. It was fun, and kept me entertained and emotionally involved. Hope you will enjoy your time in this story. Happy Reading ! !

Perfect cozy Sunday book.

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Intrigue: 🔍🔍🔍
MMC, who loves a blue stocking: 💜💜💜💜💜

But honestly, Will and Lucy are perfect for each other, the spice is 8/10 and while the villain was obvious, I did enjoy the mystery’s twistiness.
