What a wonderful series this has been to read! I read book 1 in the series right before jumping into this one and I would highly recommend the books are read back to back so you can really appreciate the writer’s attention to detail and the way she’s set up Lucy’s story since book one. It’s always so glaringly obvious when authors don’t plan their series, but Amy Rose Bennett did and it makes the series so much fun! Not only that but it weaves the mystery element to the story so effortlessly. Im not usually a fan of spy stories because they tend to be such big picture missions: saving a royal, stopping a war, etc, that even though the stakes are high in a real world scale, as a reader we don’t FEEL the high stakes. What Bennett does here is so brilliant. As the story moves along, the scale of the mystery becomes smaller, the stakes lower, so to speak. We go from an attempt against a high profile historical figure, to a threat against a single supporting character. And that makes the story so much more IMPORTANT; because we care about this character, we care about Lucy and the people she loves, so by bringing down the scale of the threat, Bennett makes the stakes so much higher and the conclusion of the book so much more satisfying. I wouldn’t care if, say, the queen got saved lol I care that Lucy and Will and the people they love are safe and happy. And that’s exactly what this book delivers. Bennett makes small moments feel huge.

This was a fun story of an undercover footman and a spinster looking for her brother. There was insta lust which isn't my favorite but in this case it worked because Lucy, the spinster, has waited a while and I like that she made the first move. The ending seemed a little perfunctory and maybe the pacing could have been worked on a bit so it didn't seem so rushed at the end.

Curled up with an Earl is a warm fuzzy of a read that is almost formulaic, actually it is formulaic, which is perfectly fine as the end of the day, when a little escapism with a handsome man is required romances such as this perfectly fit the bill.
Lucy Bertram is a blue stocking. She enjoys her life at her family’s country estate, likes nothing more than spending time either researching or reading about Botanical poisons, writing papers for her father to have published and enjoying life as a spinster.
Having a season in London filled her with dread and at the age of 27 she does not care whether she weds or not. She is also terribly worried about her family’s slow decline into poverty and the serious estrangement between her father and her brother Monty, which does not look like healing.
A new groom is hired which seems like an extravagance. He just happens to be ruggedly handsome and piques Lucy’s interest from the start when they meet on the muddy road leading to her home.
Will, a covert agent for the Crown is also the son of William Lockhart, Earl of Skye, and is on the hunt for a murderer, who deals in poisons. Lucy’s father and the Lucy come under suspicion. Meanwhile, Lucy is being introduced to wealthy Industrialist who has very strict, narrow, fixed ideas about many, many things, which includes making Lucy his wife.
Lucy is none too happy about this and sets off to try and find her brother in London, as she feels he will support her. But in the meantime Lucy and Will are finding that there is spark between them that simply will not be denied.
Will finds Lucy far too distracting for his own good and as he is supposed to be hunting a murderer, Lucy and her very different viewpoint is proving to be a very big distraction. All he wants to do is kiss her to distraction.
The trail is growing cold, and when Lucy asks his help in London to try and find Monty, a number of things begin to move faster than planned and a romance blooms. Her knowledge of poisons turns out to be the key to catching a killer.
Curled up with an Earl from Amy Rose Bennett is a romance romp which will charm, entertain and end up leaving you wondering where your handsome Earl may be hiding.
Curled up with an Earl is the second book in the Byronic Book Club series.

The back of the book names Miss Lucy Bertram a bluestocking - of course I read it!

I truly enjoyed the historical facts used in this story - the Linnean Society, the death threats sent to Charles Darwin - and doubly appreciated that the author included notes about her anachronisms at the end. The romance that developed between the spinster and the undercover earl seemed realistic, as they discovered the mystery of who was in danger and why.

This is the first novel I've read by Amy Rose Bennett and I loved it! It is the second in The Byronic Book Club series but that didn't prevent me from enjoying all of the romance, action and adventure. When I finished it, I immediately began the first book in the series just because I enjoyed the writing and characters so much. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and also catching up on any of Amy Rose Bennett's previous novels.

Lucy Bertram is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Her brother Monty has been missing for months, following an argument with their father, and now she's gotten her gig stuck in the mire on the way home to Fleetwood Hall -- with a storm blowing in fast. Lucky for her, a tall, dark, handsome stranger with a Scots brogue and the strong hands of a working man comes to her rescue and shoves the wheel out of the muck so the vehicle can move again. Though she normally feels very nervous around strangers, especially men, Lucy offers the man a lift to the Hall for shelter and for her father's thanks -- only to discover that he is William Armstrong, their new head groom and coachman.

Will -- in truth, William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle and grandson of the Duke of Ayr -- has taken the stable job for an undercover mission for the Home Office and Scotland Yard, looking for the murderer of a member of the Linnaen Society and finding Lucy's father as a prime suspect. But the more Will learns about the Bertrams, the more he realizes that Lucy's father's acquaintance, Zachariah Thorne, is a more likely suspect, and that Lucy herself is a brilliant scientist as well as an irresistible woman.

This fast-paced second outing for the Byronic Book Club series offers a mildly suspenseful plot -- we have a pretty good idea of the murderer early on, but there are many murky details to work through -- and a steamy romance. Lucy's character was a little contradictory to me: for someone described as so anxious around others, she seems at ease with Will very quickly, given her instant attraction, and she goes from shy wallflower to a lusty wanton with unbelievable speed, Personally, I was happy to see her take charge of her own opinions and to own her sexuality, but the shift -- seemingly tied to the approbation of one tall stranger -- was a little over the top. Will is a deliciously modern hero, completely gone for Lucy from the start, and while he possesses a commanding quality that barely hides under the guise of his servant role, he also listens to Lucy, validates her opinions and experience, and makes space for her to grow.

An enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading Jane's story. 3.5 stars rounded up.

I adored Lucy and William and their story. It had the perfect combination of swoon-worthy romance and page-turning suspense. It’s a worthy entry in Amy Rose Bennett’s Byronic Book Club series.

Lucy and Will find themselves in a complicated situation due to his need for information and her reticence in society. Will is looking for a murderer in her household. Complications ensue as he uses disguises to dig into her life. Her father, her brother, her persistent unwanted suitor are all added in the mix of intrigue. Lucy loves Will but wants her own life and pursuits.
An easy read with a few twists, could be a little wordy and the curses seemed a little off.

I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.

I was hoping that would have gotten more from this story. It has a lot of pieces for a very good story, things like an undercover footman, a spinster, a missing brother and a murder mystery. Unfortunately, the presentation was not what it could have been. And there were a few things that just expected me to suspend my belief too much, although I might be nitpicky. I also felt that sections of the book to be too crowded; too many things happening at once. while other parts are a little slow.

What we have is a footman how is an undercover agent investigating a murder (so far, so good). We have a very independent spinster with a case of insta-lust (It's working for me), We have a missing brother and murders happening at the same time (things could get hot). And we have a father trying to sell his daughter (so, so). So, if the parts are good, why am not thrilled? Well let's start off by looking at the things I loved and then I can share my disappointment in some areas.

What worked for me:
1) I liked seeing Lucy take the initiative with her case of lust at first sight. I guess the longer they wait, the hornier they are.
2) Will did everything he could to please Lucy.
3) Although I was able to figure out who the murderer fairly early, I did have to wait until almost the end to learn the motive. So, there was some mystery there.
4) Did the missing brother have anything to do with the murders? That added a touch of suspense.

What didn't work for me:
1) Zachariah Thorne was very over the top for me. I think he could have been written a little more subtle Without losing anything.
2) How they caught the murder was pretty weak. The switching of glasses and the bang, you're arrested. I think that the final resolution could have been a little more involved.
3) I hate fathers that want to sell their daughters!!!

The Verdict: This isn't a bad way to get a HEA. There is enough to keep your interest throughout the book. But I felt that it has more potential.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own and provided freely.

ARC Copy provided by NetGalley but all thoughts are my own.

I was so excited to receive a copy of this because I absolutely LOVED her first book. This book is a murder mystery trying to be solved by an Earl in disguise. Will and Lucy do have an instant attraction but the romance and the plot of this book are very slow overall. This is just a personal preference thing for me as I prefer a punchier plot.

If you like a slow burn romance, with two very sweet characters, and a good murder mystery this book may be for you!

There was dark secrets, and spooky haunting pasts. Lucy was a really likeable character in this story I loved her and i loved when she met the scot in the beginning and had a thing for him. The language the way the accent was spoken the scot i didnt really understand it because it was so thick, his name is Will. And automatically it was like insta love when she met him and really had a thing for him.
There was a murder going on and a lot of mystery.

Overall I loved reading the book and I enjoyed the suspense it had and secrets going on. I got this on netgalley arc free for review 100% opinion is my own.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and this is my freely given opinion.

This is the second installment of The Byronic Book Club and about one of the friends of Artemis, the new Duchess of Dartmoor, from book 1. Lucy Bertram's issues were hinted at in the first book - the fact that she is a shy, awkward, spinsterish bluestocking who helps her father heavily with his botany research (sounds like she is the heft and he takes the credit), her family's finances are failing, causing them to live with tighter constraints and manage with less, and her brother's disappearance after his estrangement from her father.

This story delves into her life with her father, Sir Oswald, and the intrigue he is unwittingly embroiled in. As a botanist he specializes in poisonous plants and has been targeted for investigation by Scotland Yard in suspicious deaths and threats of harm to members of his scientific society. Apparently there is someone who is enraged by Charles Darwin's scientific revelations and wants him out of the society and is using poisoning and blackmail to get their way.

William Lockhart, Earl of Kyle, is working as a covert agent and disguised as a groom in the stables of Sir Oswald to investigate his involvement in the poisonings. He tries be brusque, gruff, and off putting, but Lucy finds herself trusting him, and he is taken by her kindness and intelligence. She is placed in a bad situation when her father encourages her to accept the suit of a colleague of his, whom Lucy despises as they diametrically opposing views and opinions, and she begins to actively search for her brother Monty. She garners William's aid, and he wants to protect her. His investigation takes a turn where they open up to each other.

I quite liked this story because it does have some of the same themes I generally enjoy, such as the underappreciated bookish spinster, intelligent female, and the man who sees and loves the whole of her. There was some indication of Lucy being awkward and incredibly shy in the first book and alluded to here, but I found that was not really carried through as a characterization of her here.
Which is fine - I would not have liked to have seen her bullied more by the villain of the piece or be a swooning, helpless damsel in distress type.

The elements of botany were interesting as well, and the entire poisoning story line and how it involved Sir Oswald and Monty was a good storyline that I quite enjoyed. I wish there was some more resolution of William's family, considering that was brought up numerous times and while light was shed on his estrangement, there was no further development or denouement of his issues with his grandfather, which I felt was left a bit hanging considering he was preparing to leave his missions and take up his place in Society in response to his grandfather's situation.

Enjoyable reading and her cute little "oaths" were a fun little quirk.

When I get a chance to read a book that includes my two favourite genres, romance and mystery, I jump at it. I was really lucky to have been given the chance to read this eARC of the second book in the Byronic Book Club series.

Amy Rose Bennett did a great job of endearing her characters, Lucy and Will, to the readers. Lucy is intelligent but shy and a bit awkward. She is her fathers research assistant but she does most of the work, her father has put them in financial difficulty and her brother has disappeared after a fight with dear old dad. To top it off dad is pressuring her to marry someone who couldn’t be more wrong for her.

Enter into the story Will, an Earl and a spy, who is undercover as a groom in their household to discover evidence that might implicate Sir Oswald in a poisoning. A member of his scientific society has turned up dead and Lucy’s father is an expert in poisons. He tries to put up a cranky front to push Lucy away but the more time they are forced to spend together the more their undeniable chemistry grows. I must say the chemistry between them was steamy and this was definitely not a closed door romance.

I did find the writing and the dialogue toward the end a bit stilted or choppy at times but I loved the main conflict it added a thrill for the reader. I was sad to finish the book as I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop and I hope to see them make an appearance in a possible third instalment of the series?! Maybe it will be the last member of the Byronic Book Club,Jane’s turn next 😊😉.

Thank you @netgalley and @sourcebookscasablanca for this eARC!

Fudge and fiddlesticks and fiddle-dee-dee!

A delightful couple sparkles at the heart of this mystery.

What a fun read! Lucy and Will are such a great couple. Again Amy Rose Bennet gives us a sassy and smart heroine. However, I loved that mixed with her spunk Lucy deals with anxiety. As someone with anxiety disorder this really was a lovely detail- a person can be both determined and still have those feelings.
The writing is excellent, just like the previous book! There weren’t as many bookish details but I still enjoyed what was there. Also, in the previous book Lucy told Artemis in a letter that the valet had given her details about a matter, and in this book when Lucy talks to the valet she reiterates that. I never would have noticed such a tiny thing if I hadn’t just read the first book in the series. Love attention to the little things like that!
I definitely recommend this whole series! I can’t wait for Jane (and dare I hope, someday Detective Lawrence?) to get a book!

Stars: 4/5
Tropes: Undercover spy, courtship of convenience, bluestocking girls gang
CW: Death, abuse, hate crime

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amy Rose Bennett is one of my favorite authors and she just keeps getting better and better. I received an ARC of "Curled Up With An Earl" from Netgalley. All opinions and thoughts are my own. This is the second book in her Byronic Book Club series featuring Lucy Bertram who is trying ber best to do all that she can in assisting her father's scientific work when in actuality, she has been writing all his papers and doing all the research. William Douglas Lockhart, Earl of Kyle, is working undercover as a stable groom to find out who has been threatening and possibly poisoning to death some scientists because of their theories. The attraction between the owner's daughter and an employee is unacceptable in society's eyes, but oh so electrifying. What an absolutely wonderful story!

Lucy and Will was so splendid in this to delicious love story. I had a fabulous time with being entertained by Lucy hard determination of looking for her brother. While helping Lucy search for her brother, Will was working for the crown. I loved the fact that he was willing do go the distance to bring some happiness into her life. The romance part was a very heated entanglement that was very spicy.
These moments was one of many explosive heated sessions. I primarily loved the scene where he was caught unaware of dousing himself with water, then pulling his hair back as the water continued its journey down his chiseled bared chest and breeches. Whew! That’s was little hot. I loved the excitement of the hunt for people who have committed crimes to the crown and I definitely enjoyed Will and his scandalous ways of seductively seducing Lucy into his arms. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

This is Book # 2 of the Byronic Book Club series and I have to say this one was the best so far. I loved the originality of the story, how love bloomed so beautifully for Will and Lucy. Truly a swoon worthy tale. Though easy to pick up on who the villain is, the story behind it was not and was tastefully written. I loved how Lucy was feisty enough to fight off Daddy’s attempts at selling her off and Will’s decision to fight for her, knowing what it would do to and for him. Would have loved to have seen Will and his grandfather meet, overall I was absolutely entranced and enthralled with this book and can’t wait for #3!

I received this ARC copy for free and these are my own opinions.

Quite a bit of heavy petting/sex. Lucy is a botanist who writes a lot of her fathers parents. A lord has been poisoned and the father is suspected by the police but doesn't appear to have a big motive.. Will is sent undercover to solve the problem but of course Will isn't just a coachman but a sexy scottish earl. Lucy's brother Monty is missing and her father is trying to marry her off to an awful industrialist.

I notice I really liked the first in this series. This book isn't bad just a bit obvious.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
