I Like This Color: A Silly Story about Listening (Duck and Cluck)
1 ⭐

The story is supposed to show how the characters are dealing with conflict about which color is best, orange or pink. However I did not like the way they went about it. They were physically hitting each other with objects to make their points. This is not something I want my children to do. My daughter who is 5 did not pay much attention to the book saying it was boring. I do not recommend this book not would I buy it.

Cute Mo Willems type book that I think our younger readers will love! Characters are cute and interesting. Story is simple and interesting for Kindergarten and 1st graders.

A darling picture book about two friends: Duck and Cluck, both of whom have their own conflicting opinions as to which color is the best color. They present their evidence to one another, tempers rising and, unswayed, and decide to paint a wall both colors. Circumstance brings the colors and friends together to create a beautiful piece of art.

I read this story with my 1st Grader and it was just right for his age and ability. We were able to discuss conflict, opinion, resolution, compromise and the freedom to adjust our stance when evidence changes or we ourselves change. I love this type of book because it can be as deep or as shallow a discussion as you please. Our first read through my kiddo and I enjoyed it on a more basic level and the second read through we were able to enjoy the more complex themes of the character interactions. Regardless, we both giggled each time at the boop boop boop of the flowers.

This is a perfect addition for fans of Mo Willems titles like the Elephant and Piggie series and the Don't Let Pigeon series, and has a similar tone and level of difficulty.

I was provided with an electronic ARC copy of I Like This Color by Liz Goulet Dubois through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title with the assistance of my reading sidekick, my 6 year old.

The story is very simple, and great for grader 1 and younger readers, with a lot of repeated vocabulary, the colours and art are also simple and pleasing. The plot of the story shows that compromises and team work makes it fun for everybody.

I Like This Book.

This was a fun picture book about two friends, Chicken and Duck, who realize their background is too boring being white. Chicken likes orange best but Duck prefers pink, which leads the two friends to debate back and forth which one is better. Finding both orange and pink things to prove their point, the two still cannot agree. They decide that they’ll just have to split the wall and paint their own sides the color they want.

But when some of Duck’s pink goes over into Chicken’s orange, the two begin accidentally mixing the colors and making something truly beautiful as a result.

This one was a big hit with my K-2 reading group.

A great book for kids to help them with their colours. It also has an important message about manners and listening to others. Good illustrations and a fun story.

I think this is a great story on sharing. Perfect length for toddlers. Nice moral without being too complicated. It reminds me of a duck and goose book or a Gerald and piggie.

This is a very cute book about compromise, colors, and teamwork. Both characters get a turn feeling common feelings in childhood debates and both feel the did something great at the end. The colors and illustration was lovely.

I really enjoyed I Like This Colour. The story is about Duck and Cluck trying to find a colour to paint the boring white page. They both have strong ideas but struggle to find a compromise.

This book is good for young readers who are just starting as it is the vocabulary used is quite simple. Although it also lends itself to younger children nicely as well and can open up conversation on how to compromise and how not to solve resolutions. The pictures are also really good for children who like to make up their own story.

I would definitely recommend this book to others and would be more than happy to have a copy of this book on our bookshelf at home.

I loved this adorable graphic novel that is very accessible to younger ages as well. Enjoyed the silliness between the two characters and sound effects used. Would recommend for use with social skills lessons related to flexible thinking and perspective taking.

I loved I Like This Color so much! This was an absolutely adorable children’s book about conflict and, at least in some small way, conflict resolution. Overall, the book is pretty simple in terms of storytelling, we really only see Duck and Cluck deciding to paint a page and having an argument about which color is better to use. As their argument builds, so too does the fervor with which they paint or color the side of their page, resulting in some out of bounds coloring.

Suddenly, a single color is no longer the primary view of their page and both Duck and Cluck learn a very important lesson together.

I Like This Color is a simple, easy-to-read and engaging children’s book that’s well worth adding to your kiddo’s collection. I’m truly a huge fan of the story, the artwork, and the message it sends. It may very well end up on a shelf for my students sometime soon.

A new Duck & Cluck book! The second in a funny graphic novel series for beginning readers, perfect for fans of Mo Willems and Elephant and Piggie.

Meet Duck and Cluck. They are friends. Mostly. But they do not always agree. But they do agree that the white pages in this book could use some color.

Duck thinks pink is the best color. Cluck likes orange. Duck knows Cluck is wrong. Cluck will show Duck that he is wrong.

No matter what color they end up with, they learn important lessons about manners and listening, in a story that's also laugh-out-loud hilari

The story is supposed to show how the characters are dealing with conflict but I don’t care for the way they went about it. They were were and acting out physically to make their points, which is not something I want to encourage in my children. They did reach a compromise of sorts but it’s just not a book I would read again without the behaviors as they are.

I love the idea of this book. While Duck and Cluck may have very different ideas on which color is the best, sometimes something magical can happen when two things come together. This is just such a fun book for kids. My daughter has enjoyed both the graphics and loves both Duck and Cluck's antics. This is the perfect book to use for story time.
Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Kids and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

I'm a fan of Mo Williams. This new book is so similar with the Piggy and Gerald.
A good easy reader for young.

This is a lovely picture book showing how we can compromise, but with an added sense of humour. Great for younger kids to read and have a giggle at!

Duck and Cluck are friends, but sometimes they don't agree. In this book, Duck and Cluck both agree that the boring white pages need some color, but they can't agree on what the color should be since they both have a different favorite. I love how the book shows kids that it's ok to not like the same things as your friends. Also sometimes amazing things can happen when you compromise, even if they don't do it intentionally in the story. It's full of humor and fun characters which also makes for a great story for kids.
