What. A. Ride. A multi-generational span of complexity, family secrets, lies, and intrigue, You Must Remember This will keep you reading far too late into the night right up to the final conclusion. One of my favorite reads of 2022.

Lost at least one star because of the backstory stuff. There was way too much - we didn't need to get all of Miriam's history. Had more time been spent just on her meeting Theo and her marriage, and even possibly her relationship with Shelly, it would have been tighter.

Similarly, Delphine was just too naive/childish for words. The relationship that got her kicked out of her apartment and prompted her move to Maine? Her sneaking around with Adam? Her inability to really focus? Yes, that's supposed to be a plot point but <i>ugh</i>.

One of the problems with the mixture of backstory and present day is that the pacing was off as the author rushed to get to the ending. There are too many reveals, too many events happening in the last part while everything leading up is relatively slow.

This book started off with a strong opening that had me itching to read the rest of the book., However, the rest of the book was just okay for me. As I was reading I couldn't figure out why this was in the mystery thriller category,
Delphine has moved back in with her mother, in her mother's childhood home, and her grandmother Miriam who is currently at a nursing home suffering from Dementia is coming home to spend what could be her last Christmas with her family in the house where she spent a lot of time.

Miriam's other children arrive, and some weird things do happen, but all are very easily explainable and her grandma says some things that don't make sense. Still, she has Dementia so no one really pays attention. It wasn't until about the 70% ish mark that we started to see a mystery unfold. I didn't guess who the person behind everything was, but I think that's more because I wasn't really looking, and I did guess at a few of the other things that were revealed. It lacked any tension or suspense at least until the very end when everything begins to be revealed.

This book just didn't really do anything for me, but I would be interested in reading other works by this author.

This reads like an old school Agatha Christie mystery and I was obsessed. This story had multiple twists and turns with more then one guessing game that kept me guessing until the very end to find out exactly how it was all going to come together

After reading last years No One Will Miss Her I couldn't wait to get my hands on this follow up book. It didn't disappoint! Kat Rosenfield has crafted another clever tale that's a combination of mystery, family drama, and historical fiction. There were so many different facets to this story that I struggle to decide which aspect I enjoyed most.

The story captured me from the prologue where we open at The Whispers, a seaside mansion in Maine, and see perplexing and intriguing events unfold on a foggy, moonlit Christmas Eve in 2014. Beginning with chapter 1, we alternate between the decades when Miriam is a young woman and December 2014 when Miriam's family has gathered at The Whispers for a final Christmas together. I was equally invested in both timelines as I searched for hidden clues to explain the mysterious Christmas Eve events.

The characters were a nice balance between well developed and still enigmatic enough to have me doubting their motives and actions. I think I suspected every single character in this book was the villain at least once.

The gothic, wintry setting and atmosphere were a wonderful complement to the family drama. The Whispers, with its hidden passages and remote, cliffside location, was the perfect backdrop for family secrets, betrayal, and grudges to be revealed.

With You Must Remember This, Kat Rosenfield has given us another twisty, multi layered mystery that I enjoyed just as much if not more than it's predecessor. Fans of character driven, atmospheric mysteries where the question of whodunit and why slowly unfold like a more fully fleshed out version of Clue have much to look forward to within these pages.

I was eager to read this book from some reviews that compared it with "Knives Out." However, it was more of a story of family drama than suspense, and for me, it felt a bit too predictable. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I've seen others say that this gave them definite Knives Out vibes and I fully agree! I loved that movie and this book was very similar.

An elderly woman and unsure how she ended up dead. So many theories and suspects for what possibility did happen.

I found the ending fairly predictable which caused my rating/liking to tumble a little bit.

I got a little bored in the middle and found myself just wanting to finish it instead of savoring it.

Overall, 3 stars, still will want to read more from Kat in the future!

There's a lot to unpack in this book . Mainly Mimi who is suffering from dementia which yeah rough topic to read for some ?? The family dynamics with everyone coming together for the first time in years for one last holiday is a mess. Uncle Richard was for sure one of my fave characters!!

Myself ? I LOVED this book. I looked forward to going back & reading it & finding out what else was going to be revealed. A little predictable? Yeah .. but still an excellent read .
I would def recommend this book.

I liked this book and thought it was an engaging read. It centers on Mimi, who is suffering from dementia- her family gathers for Christmas with her at the old mansion where she grew up to spend time together before she forgets everything (and presumably to kiss up to her so they are firmly in her will). The story is primarily told from the POV of her grown granddaughter, Delphine, but also contains chapters from Mimi’s own childhood, which sets the stage for the current happenings.

I thought this was a good mystery and while others said it was predictable, I didn’t think it was. There were viable reasons why many different people could’ve been the culprit and I wasn’t entirely sure who it was for much of the book. I thought the author did a great job in painting the picture in a way that gave the reader doubts, and there were a few things that were genuine surprises to me. I loved the atmosphere of the fading mansion and its many secret rooms- I could easily picture the surroundings and it felt like the house itself was a character in the story.

I thought there were a couple misses in the plotline, like the fact that I didn’t get a good idea of what Mimi did with herself between the timeframe of her narrated chapters and the current timeframe. I was also left questions about her marriage and her overall temperament that I felt were never answered. Also, while the end was really satisfying to me, I had to suspend my disbelief a bit in how it all went down. None of this detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book, though.

All in all, I liked the book and would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy mysteries. I haven’t this author’s previous book and plan on picking it up. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book has some spooky vibes! There is an old mansion with family members gathered for Christmas, in what will be the matriarch’s final year. I loved how the story flashed between the grandmother Miriam’s past and Delphine’s present. Interesting mystery.

Intrigue and suspense…family and friends…love and romance..what happened to the matriarch of the family? Dementia or murder? This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. It is difficult to guess the end. The characters come alive on the pages. This author is talented at writing a cannot put down novel. Enjoy

I'm torn here, as there was so much that was gaspingly good. There were also a number of points were it could have been lovely but needed a firm tightening up. So, a tentative 4 stars because the good bits really were that.

This one was for sure a slow burn. Slow burns can be done fantastically and full of atmosphere, but this one just fell short in that regard.

We know Miriam is going to die by walking on thin ice. We just don’t know what brought her to her to that point. We get Miriam’s perspective from the past alongside her granddaughters, Dephine’s, perspective in the present. On Christmas Eve, the whole family is gathered in Miriam’s seaside home and Miriam’s will is shared shocking them all. Did someone drive Miriam to death? Or was it her dementia masking out the current reality? All eyes are on Delphine as she has the most to gain from Miriam’s death.

I really wanted to like this one, but I just couldn’t get into it. The slow burn ended up being more of a drag and it was utterly predictable. I try not to figure books out so I’m surprised, but I couldn’t help it with this one. There was no true thriller, I would place this one entirely in the suspense category. The who-done-it was seeable a mile away, which was just disappointing. I wish this one would have been less predictable and had a slightly better pace, so it held my interest.

The premise of the book drew me in but once I started reading it, I just couldn’t get into it at all.

At the beginning of this book, we know that Miriam (Mimi) is going to die under the ice near her mansion, The Whispers. We just don't know what brought her to that point.

We are given insight through the perspective of Mimi in the past and her granddaughter Delphine in the present. Everyone has gathered for Christmas and presumably to see Mimi (and get in her good graces) before she dies. The family is wholly unlikable with some of them there just to get money from the inheritance. Delphine is also unlikable due to her horrible taste in men and her romantic exploits.

The whole book is a slow burn and I found it to drag. It started getting interesting towards the end, but still wound up being predictable with some plot holes. I also don't like using the dementia as an out.

I really wanted and actually expected to love this one after really enjoying the authors last book, No One Will Miss Her but sadly, I found this one to be lacking. For me it was missing the intensity of a mystery/thriller and read more like women’s fiction with a small side of suspense. I’ll admit I was intrigued in the beginning it had a strong opening that piqued my interest but as things went on I was a little bored. What kept me reading was the atmosphere of a bitter winter and the wide variety of suspects as to whodunnit. I did know who it would be early on but I kept reading and hoping I was wrong but sadly the author went with the predictable route. So in the end this was just ok for me, if you want to read one of the authors books the one I mentioned earlier was better! I would definitely read more by her in the future though just to see if she could capture that spark that NWMH had for me.

This book was a surprise for me. This was my first book by Kat Rosenfeld and it definitely made me want to read more from her. With the entire family there to celebrate what will most likely be her last Christmas family matriarch Miriam is found submerged in the water behind here Bar Harbor mansion. Was she lured out there or did she wander out on her own? There are plenty of suspects her children who were left out of the will in favor of her granddaughter and people from her past who know the secrets she's tried to keep hidden. I really enjoyed the dual timelines between young Miriam and the present day POV of her granddaughter. This was part suspense/mystery/family drama and I really enjoyed it. Four stars from me on this one and will for sure be recommending it. I want to thank NetGalley and William Morrow for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! This was a good one that sticks with you and really leaves you thinking. I enjoyed the contrast between the past and present and all the twists and turns along the way. This book kept me guessing and unable to put it down. I’d highly recommend this book and may even need to purchase to have on my physical shelf. I can’t wait to read more from Kat!

Money is the headliner with a cast of unforgettable characters that are all hoping to get a piece of the pie. Mini is 85 years old and has $20 million in the bank which is on the minds of her grown children. She has dementia, mercilessly taking her memory at a very slow pace.

Mini’s daughters, Dora and Diana along with her son, Richard, have decided that it’s time to gather together to celebrate Christmas at the family seaside mansion in Maine before she forgets everything. The glorious getaway home was a wedding gift in 1920 to Mimi. “The great stone house above the bay was one of the biggest bootlegging hubs in the state” at the height of Prohibition. It was named “Whispers” like the sound of the wind.

Her granddaughter, Delphine, takes the reader into a complex mystery which could easily be a movie with hidden secrets. It takes place on Christmas Eve in 2014 with the family that is anxiously waiting for their inheritance. There are parts which made me smile like when her dad left her mom and moved to Santa Monica to marry a young blond who did crystal healings for cats with emotional problems.

Yet, there was sadness throughout the book as Mimi revisits her past when she was with her husband: “the love of her life.” He died in a boating accident when she was in her thirties and she never remarried. When Mimi moved from their New Jersey home to the getaway mansion in Maine, it took five years for anyone to notice that she was forgetting things. She would hide her jewelry and other objects, worried someone might take it. Now with everyone there, anything could happen.

It's the characters that makes this story entertaining with all kinds of love affairs. While the end is somewhat predictable and parts of the plots had holes, it kept my interest all the way. I could feel the pain of Mimi with dementia knowing others that have sadly lost their minds this way.
