"Your honesty is the only currency that can't be stolen from you."

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read this book. It was one of my FAVORITE books I read this year!

I'm a sucker for any book that is set during WWII. My former book club would tell you that with a chuckle. This book was everything I would want - a great mystery, suspense, and a dabble into the woo. I wish I would have highlighted more passes but honestly, I was so drawn into this story and the worlds of both Violine and Suzanne that I could barely tear my eyes away from the pages. Sometimes a book just signs with you. The feelings that connect you to those words on the page creep under your skin and get stuck there. Thats what this book was for me. I'm going to be thinking about it for quite some time.

To not spoil anything I'm going to be as vague as possible. Suzanne and Dixie's plan regarding their jewels and their uses was FASCINATING. I was immediately sucked in. To read at the end that the back of the police car scene was real was even more mind blowing. I know that so many people did some intensely terrifying things during that time period due to the absolute evil seeping out of Germany, but it still surprises me to read about it. Its unfathomable what humans have had to endure at the hands of other humans.

Violine and her gift were also fascinating. To be able to touch objects and see visions, feel emotions, and learn their stories is such an interesting concept. No wonder she wanted nothing to do with it-how overwhelming. But I loved how her aunt continued trying to get her to embrace it. To use it. The woo certainly comes into play in Violine's life in that bell tower and beyond. The ghost was one of my favorite parts.

There's so, so much more amongst these pages but you have to read it for yourself. I cannot do it justice in a review. I cant wait to read this book again!

There are two stories interwoven in this novel: Suzanne is a jewelry designer in 1942 Paris, and is working with the Resistance. Violine is in 1986 Paris and America, and works for an auction house. She also has a hereditary gift which she tries to repress, passed down through generations of women: she can feel an object's history by touching it. Violine is asked to evaluate some items by Paul, and it is then she learns that his late aunt's trunk has a secret compartment which conceals some valuable jewelry. Was the jewelry stolen? Can Violine's gift, or her work with the Midas Society, help to identify the rightful owners? Recommended for anyone who enjoys historical fiction with a magical aura. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Violine, a auctioneer who can detected a persons life by touching one of their items, has come across a trunk from Europe with jewelry in a secret compartment that reveals terrible images of the previous owners. Although, the jewelry was created by Suzanne Belperron, it is the horror of World War II that Violine is detecting and in doing so we see how innocent people who loved and had lived were taking away and destroyed. Through Suzanne telling of the story we experience her lost of her lover and friends as each one is taken away and never seen of again.
I really love this story, but any story about what happened in World War II is very upsetting to read about, because it's unimaginable how one human being can do those terrible things to anyone. I love all the magical elements to this story, but its was upsetting that Violine would not except her gift and in doing so endangered herself and others more. I like that Paul Osgood, Violine client and love interest, seems to have a magical ability of his own, to influence others through his speech and how he gets premonitions about thing that are about to happen, it makes me wonder is he has special gifts too..
In a way, this story is about how an item can tell stories about those people who owned it before and help us to remember them.

I want to thank AuthorBuzz, Blue Box Press and NetGalley for an advance copy of this story

Two different times and places get woven together in this historical fiction work. Seems to be another work in a series but you can read it as a standalone. The characters are well fleshed out and interesting history tidbits are yours to learn and further explore.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and enjoy this work.

I received an e-arc of this book through Netgalley.
I didn't realize this was Book #4 in a series when I requested it, but I know that I have enjoyed books by M.J. Rose before.
I did go back and read Book #1 in this series before I read this book. It was a bit more of a magical romance than I prefer to read so I skipped Books 2-3 and read this one next. It can be a standalone book, but I think reading Book 1 helped the references to past family history make more sense to me. If you like romance and some magical elements, then this is a good book for you. It didn't quite fit my current frame of mind, but I thought the parts about the stones and the jeweler it was based on were quite fascinating.

Good historical fiction story about two women decades apart and the jewelry that ties them together. Interesting characters with some magic thrown in.

I fell in love with M.J. Rose’s books when I first read The Last Tiara, and I was so happy to have a chance to read an early copy of The Jeweler of Stolen Dreams.

A dual-timeline novel set in 1942 and 1986, The Jeweler of Stolen Dreams is a beautifully written story of two women with special gifts who are both connected through time by their love of beautiful things. A mixture of magic, romance, and mystery, this story has it all. The historical story is very well researched and draws your interest immediately as does the contemporary side of the story. And if you love jewelry – well, there’s no question you’ll enjoy the descriptions of lovely jewels in this book.

I highly recommend this novel to those who love a historical story steeped in magic and fantastic writing.

I found this book absolutely riveting and full of intersting historical nuggets. Set in 1942 Paris and 1986 New York, the story weaves a wonderful tapestry of connections spanning decades.

In New York, Violine has the gift of touching an object and receiving memories of the owner. It's a gift she's tried hard to lose, as those memories can be violent and traumatic. Hired by wealthy Paul Osgood to evaluate goods he's considering auctioning off, Violine comes across a trunk with a secret. In a secret compartment are a number of jewelry boxes with rings and necklaces clearly of great value and brilliant design. Who do they belong to, and how did they get there?

In 1942 Paris, famous jeweler Suzanne Belperron is living under the Nazi's but continuing to design and sell her jewelry. But under the surface Suzanne, along with others in her circle, is helping Jews fleeing Nazi's to escape from Paris. Do these pieces have anything to do with those found in Paul's trunk?

Chapter by chapter, alternating points of view between Suzanne and Violine weave together the story that connects these people and the jewelry. One of the best things about MJ Rose's stories in general and this book in particular is the ladies of La Lune and their various gifts. I really loved this book!

The Jeweler of Stolen Dreams by MJRose tells the story of Violine Dupressi in 1980s who works for an auction house and finds a hidden compartment in a traveling trunk. Suzanne Belperron a jeweler in Paris in 1940s. A really great dual time line story. The characters are very real. It was interesting when I looked up Suzanne jewelry creations. I would recommend this book. I didn’t realize it was a series so I I’m going to read the other books. Thank you NetGalley for letting me review this book.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more by the author M.J. Rose. Although I have read many books about the holocaust this was different and interesting. The story is told in 2 different times. It begins in 1986 with the discovery of a suitcase from 1942. The author made it easy to follow the 2 timelines. The story was an interesting one. Two love stories during different times. I had never heard of Madame Suzanne Belperron - a famous jewelry designer and the parts about jewelry design and precious stones were very interesting as were the way the jewels were smuggled out of France.

My only criticism was that Violine the appraiser from 1986 has magical powers, which I could have done without, but I now know this was part of a series. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have so enjoyed all the books I’ve read by M.J. Rose, and this was no exception. This story had me turning pages so quickly and I didn’t want to put it down. I like that the story was written about the extremely talented jeweler, Suzanne Belperron and as soon as I finished this book I went and researched her beautiful jewelry and real story.
The writing is great and the story is engaging.
I highly recommend this one!

Another stunning book of historical romantic fiction by MJ Rose, who couldn't create bad prose if she tried. I adored the beautiful and sophisticated characters within all the various timelines, and I was completely engrossed in the fast-paced plot...so much so that I couldn't stop reading from the first page to the last.
Rose's lush prose is deliciously descriptive, so you really feel like you can smell the scents and feel the air and taste the foods of Paris during the Nazi occupation. Based on real characters, Rose manages to make historical artists come alive within the pages of her gorgeous books (the cover art on her Daughters of La Lune books are perfection!), and I can't recommend them highly enough.

My favorite thing about historical fiction is learning something new — particularly about women who had success in a profession that was perhaps unusual at the time. Thanks to NetGalley, I had the chance to enjoy this well written story that centers around a successful Parisian jeweler in 1942 and an auctioneer in 1986 who is trying to unravel a mystery of a hidden cache of jewels and the story that surrounds them.

It was easy to escape into the two worlds and I’m glad I did.

The Jeweler of Stolen Dreams by M. J. Rose is the first I have read in this series. The story begins in the US in 1986 when auctioneer Violine Duplessi is asked to evaluate a trunk from the 1940s. The owner is a wealthy man who only knows that it belonged to a deceased aunt. Violine is soon intrigued by an anomaly concerning the trunk which sends her to Paris for answers. A second story thread involves jeweler extraordinaire Suzanne Belperron and the book's timeline takes the reader back to 1942 during the Nazi control of Paris.

Both women have tightly-held secrets and M. J. Rose deftly alternates the plot between the two. There is mystery, romance, historical fact along with a paranormal aspect woven together to make a very enjoyable read. I found this book fast-paced and believable even with the paranormal aspect and hope to read the three others in this series.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-galley.

So many “ah-ha!” moments in this story, I truly loved it. Having previously read “the Lost Tiara” by MJ Rose, I was delighted that some of the characters from the (fictitious) Midas Society return to legitimatize the story. Told in a dual historical timeline, this works so well to help understand the connection between the protagonists and how their past plays a role in their future. During WWII, we hear the story of Susanne, a Parisian jeweler and Dixie, an American living in Paris. Together they are involved in the Resistance and seek to help Jewish families survive the Nazi takeover of Paris. Strong women who were courageous and determined, we become immersed in their lives as they face danger. In present day, Violine works for an antique auction house that has been contacted by Paul Osgood who has come in to possession of a vintage trunk previously owned by his aunt Dixie who died in WWII. Violine, just by touch, can sense a story connected with an object if it is one of pain or sadness. She discovers there is more to the trunk that meets the eye and that there is a secret. Why would Paul’s aunt Dixie be in possession of this treasure? I love the added element of magical gifts of the women in Violine’s family. Violine is also a member of the Midas Society, whose mission is to return lost and stolen goods to their rightful owners once they’ve been tracked down. Through her investigation for the Midas Society of the treasures that were found and make connections to Paul’s Aunt Dixie, Violine encounters danger and deceit. Not everything is at it appears. MJ Rose writes to bring this time in history alive and help us to learn more about these courageous people in the face of adversity. The characters are diverse and well-developed. Susanne is based on a real person, although she did not smuggle jewels to the United States. More likely, jewels were sold by families to obtain funds in order to escape. I found myself engaged from the first page to the last. My one thought though was the abruptness of the ending. The story was flowing along, and then the last chapter moved forward and wrapped up everything nicely. Perhaps it should have been labeled Epilogue rather than a mere chapter. But that being said, MJ Rose is a great storyteller and I do enjoy her books.

Many thanks to #netgalley #mjrose #jewelerofstolendreams for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Enjoyed this story of a woman with a magical gift to know an object’s history and a female jeweler during WWII and how their worlds connect. When Violine discovers stolen jewels she travels to Paris to return - a page turner of a book

Although the dual time plot line, juxtaposing present day with WWII has become a common device, it works so well in this novel.
Suzanne is a much sought after jeweler in 1940’s occupied France. Her designs are unique and beautiful. But, she must reserve her dislike and design for the wives and mistresses of the occupying Germans. Her best friend, Dixie, is an American heiress, wild and daring, who brings Suzanne into the Resistance. And Suzanne’s mentor and lover, Bernard, a Jew, is facing arrest at any moment.
In 1986 America, estate auctioneer, Violine, is asked to appraise the property of Paul’ late father’s home. Among the furniture and accessories is an old trunk that calls to Violine. But the trunk has a secret that Violine and Paul must pursue across France and the USA, and from the present to the past of Suzanne’s time. There are many secrets that are revealed, danger abounds, and perhaps, love.
An entertaining and fascinating story. I look forward to more by Ms. Rose.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity to review . My review opinion is my own.
I was completly captivated by this book from beginning to end. The brillant writing of the author captures the reader and transports you to the dual timelines of two fascinating women. One in Nazi occupied France, a brillant Jeweler rare among women of her time. Her talent is renowed and her means to survival from the Nazi's may cost her everyone she loves. The second woman of modern day, a appraiser who finds a cache of hidden jewels in a client's antique trunk. Her psychic gift is inherited and helps her read the history of objects she touches. Her passion to find out their stories she must hide to survive.
Both stories collide among the war, the history of jewelry and the story the jewels tell. A Beautifully written transformative story I absorbed from beginning to end unable to part with this book until the ending . I highly recommend this fabulous book for those who enjoy historical fiction and stories of brave strong women who stand on their own and take on the world. Bravo to the author ! I wish this would become a movie it would be wonderful with the screenplay written by the author of course.

I wish to thank NetGalley and Blue Box Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am a fan of M. J. Rose’s previous books and this one is now my favorite. This novel which is set mostly in Paris in 1942 is all about high fashion jewelry designers during World War II and what happened to their creations during the Nazi invasion. While the story is fiction it tells the true story of Madame Suzanne Belperron and her family, her work and with great emphasis to her methods of design. I was hooked at the first chapter and still highly engaged all through the story including the Author’s Note at the end. What woman does not love jewelry? The detailed description of the design work is simply fascinating and one you will love. The story follows two time frames one in Paris and one in New York in 1986. A local auction house is invited to view a collection with the thought of consigning items for auction. During the appraisers viewing the young woman is overcome with a magical reaction to the gems and the story takes off. I highly recommend this book as one you will long remember.
