➽ One Cup at a Time brings back the lovable animals from Cat’s Café 🥺 Even though this is a collection of comics, I’d consider this a sequel and recommend reading Cat’s Café first. You’ll not regret it, as these comic collections are so wholesome! One Cup at a Time follows the familiar setting of Cat’s Café, located in a town populated by several animals that all love their favorite coffee shop. We get all the regulars from the first book plus Cat and Rabbit, as they serve their customers. There are also a couple of new characters, my favorite being Mouse, who comes across a drawing of the Café and sets out on an adventure to find this magical, cozy place!

➽ The heartfelt discussions of mental health struggles, self-care, friendship, and getting through bad days once again make this such a relatable and comforting book ❤️ I love the slice of life format that shows us the daily life of the residents, sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s sad or heartwarming. One Cup at a Time manages the perfect balance between humor and important affirmations/reminders.

➽ IN CONCLUSION: One Cup at a Time is another fantastic comic collection by Matt Tarpley, all about mental health, told through the lens of several lovable animal characters that will steal your heart. If you loved the first book, this one is just as good! And if you haven’t read any Cat’s Café yet, I recommend trying it out, it’s guaranteed to make you feel understood and comforted

Warm and floofies! And of course, vaguely murderous Kiwis!

Fans of the Cat’s Cafe comics will absolutely love this new addition to its catalogue. One Cup at a Time focuses on the ups and downs of life, with a focus on the harder aspects such as self-esteem and mental health issues.

Still told with the the warmth and humor that is expected of Cat’s Cafe, this collection does a wonderful job of acknowledging the low times in a supportive way.

Also, did I mention the vaguely murderous kiwi??

Os quadrinhos da coleção do Cat's Cafe sempre me trazem um misto de sensações. One Cup at a Time não foi diferente. Abordando assuntos diversos, os quadrinhos me fazem refletir, dar risada, sentir empatia e pensar em como algumas situações acontecem na minha própria vida. Gostei muito dessa leitura.

I love seeing these comics on Facebook so was very excited to have a whole book of them. Turns out a whole book is a bit too much for me but it's still something most people will need nowadays. It will make a great special gift for someone who needs a bit of a pick me up.

I had not read this author or series before this book and I know this is the second one. I thought almost all of the characters were adorable. I will be sure to check out more. I loved how inclusive the characters were and how they understood that not everyone is happy all the time. They cared for each other. The colors and art are truly adorable.

Serving up another steaming hot cup of the warm and floofies, this new collection follows your favorite regulars at Cat's Cafe as well as several all-new characters as they handle the ups and downs of life with the help of their friends.
This book was so heartwarming and cute! Perfect if you had a bad day and want something tender and adorable. Or a cold rainy day. The author addresses important and complicated topics such as depression, anxiety and burn out from a sweet and humorous perspective. The drawing is so cute and good, I really like all the characters, they have their problems but try to help each other.
Really loved it!

One Cup at a Time by Matt Tarpley is a beautiful book.

I have to admit I was taken back by this book. It is so beautifully written. Full of kindness, self-love, and awareness. Reading this book is a fantastic moment to open the floor for discussion on what is going on for someone. To let them know it is ok to have and express your feelings, to be a good listener and kind friend.

I enjoyed the comic strip aspect of the story. The colors are vibrant and fun. The characters are beyond cute. I love that the beginning pages lay the flow of how the story is going to go, allowing you to share what your latest win is.

Thank you NetGalley and Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I LOVE THESE BOOKS.

If you want a feel good, reminder of what kindness does, how it is okay to feel the feels, what being a good listener and friend looks like, then this book [AND the first one in the series] is absolutely 100% for you [and for all those people that you love in your life].

I just love Cat and all his friends and seriously would visit his lovely little cafe for a coffee, snack and a hug. The supporting characters [Kiwi is one of my absolute favorites] are just as important as Cat and teach so many important lessons that we ALL need to be reminded of from time to time and there are so many feel good moments as well that balance out it all.

I cannot praise this book enough - just go and find a way to read it as soon as you can; you absolutely will not be sorry.

Thank you to NetGalley, Matt Tarpley, and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One Cup At A Time is the perfectly brewed sequel to Cat’s Cafe by Matt Tarpley, collecting works from his online series. For my thoughts on the first book, check out my review here on Half-Time Hobbyist.

Cat is a delightful soul running a cafe that supports and uplifts his local animal customers. There’s Rabbit, an anxious staffer, Hyena still learning to ask for help, coffee-afficinado Penguin and self-conscious Snake. One Cup At A time introduces us to new friends, with additional characters finding new ways to express or support themselves.

My absolute favourite though is Gator! She’s an artist crushing on Cat and doubts her art skills *ahem, same*

There are a couple of longer arcs in here that I enjoyed – the colour work and backgrounds are especially lovely. Trapley’s artwork is colourful and fun, with thick black outlines balancing things out in the regular panelled comics.

It does touch on COVID a little with a few comics – like Platypus venturing out in all weather with a mask, or Fennec Fox signing in for their 30th Zoom meet of the day. I found Cat’s Cafe really comforting during the uncertainty of Australia’s lockdowns.

Also, I appreciated that Fox is deaf, and Cat not only learns sign language to communicate with them, but also texts or writes a message when needed.

This collection also includes a couple of activities for readers, and space to record their own thoughts.

This is a wholesome, warming read for almost all readers – Kiwi does carry a knife around so perhaps not for littlest ones. I realy enjoyed it and would recommend – 4.5 lattes.

All the homies are getting a copy and I am getting a Kiwi tattoo.

One Cup at a Time is an excellent book about mental health and the importance of supportive friendships in a fun, heartwarming, and digestible manner. Every adult today needs to read this book (kids too because it’s good for them to learn these lessons early); it’s a great reminder that we all have bad days; rest and taking time for yourself to just exist is necessary and not something you should apologize for; and that a strong support system can work wonders for your emotional well-being. Whether it’s taking a weapon to your negative self-talk (this is a Kiwi stan account) or simply sitting with you so you know you’re not alone, these characters showcase some of the healthiest, most caring, and most secure friendships I have ever seen and that we should all hope to have and to provide to others.

The universe of Cat’s Cafe is the ideal and I wish I lived there. I’d be able to spend my days drinking tea and reading books and working at a coffeeshop frequented by all of my best friends and I feel confident in my assumption that they don’t have climate change.

Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for sending me a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. One Cup at a Time is currently available for preorder and will be available at libraries and major book retailers on September 27th, 2022.

I truly love the first Cat's Café Collection so I felt excited when I was able to read the second story.

As expected, HEARTWARMING. Reading it feels like a warm embrace. The characters are charmingly pictured. If I could, I would love to live in this comfortable village.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I loved the first Cat's Cafe collection so much that I downloaded this the second I saw it on Netgalley, and was so excited to read it. I loved it just as much as the first one, if not more! The soft, sweet themes of self-care, friendship, healing, taking space and time for yourself when you need it, and valuing the good things in life while acknowledging the bad days, too — it was all incredibly wholesome and comforting, while also being funny and adorable. I can't recommend this collection highly enough!

Super cute and easy to read! This is a small little book that is built around webcomics, meaning there’s no full plot but more tiny little graphic short stories.

This graphic novel featured lots of mental health issues, as well as friendships and other silly stories that I loved. It was super easy to get into and read always jumping into a new story with different characters each time.

Speaking about characters, these characters are featured as different animals such as birds, penguins, foxes, rabbits, etc. Each character was special in their own way that I adore, two characters stuck with me. One of them is Fox, a character who is hard of hearing so they use sign language, which I love seeing in comics since I feel as though this type of representation is underrepresented. Another one is Kiwi, and that’s due to just how chaotic that chick is with their little knife.

Now going back to speaking about some of the issues that this webcomic features. It shows mental health in a way that makes it not as scary to deal with. Despite such a subject that can be very hard to deal with, the way that this comic dealt with it was in a lighter and manageable way where I could easily relate to many of the featured scenes in this book that made me feel seen. There are also so many encouraging parts in this book which was just what I needed to see right now, so I am in love with this comic. Not to even mention how cute the art style is!

Highly recommend this to those who are looking for a cute and encouraging comic that is bound to lighten up your mood!

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC!

Cat's Café is always so heart-warming. Creating a gentle supportive world with a colorful array of characters, personalities, and friends.
Covering topics of relationship, social situations, friendship, self-esteem, and mental health struggles. Always so understanding and comforting.

This will bring a smile to your face, even in the darkest of times. You are not alone and you are worthy. Thank for creating this world for others to enjoy and find comfort in Matt Tarpley.

This volume of cat’s cafe definitely hits home for me because I too deal with anxiety which is a big part of this comic and how asking for help is really important. Making friends helps you feel not alone. When you have friends you feel better knowing that you have people who love and care about you and that makes all the difference. This is a very important book for people who need to know their not alone in their feelings.

This was super cute! I knew going into this second instalment in the cat café series that the art would be adorable and it definitely kept that up!

The messages about mental health were so lovely. To see so many different struggles and aspects to life reflected in these adorable characters, it made it easy to learn what someone else might be going through and ways to not only help them but how to do so (or not do so!) in a way that is actually helpful and won’t cause more harm.

I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more in the future!

4/5⭐️

It is usually really hard for me to get into early graphic novels, but I didn't struggle with this at all. In one way, it is simple and easy. In another, it's complex. It's not all rainbows and sunshine. The comics tackle tough subjects like mental health.
The characters are really cute and diverse. Overall this is just really wholesome and uplifting. I think the series is also on Webtoons so I'm definitely gonna have to go subscribe.
