A collection of short stories that are thought provoking, somewhat depressing but definitely worth the read. Well written and thought provoking.

A pretty good collection. There are better anthologies out there, but this one is worthwhile. This author has written multiple books, and understands how to create a good story.

Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!!

The Tree Stand
by Jay Atkinson

It was difficult to read on Kindle. It seemed to have no paragraphs, just run-on sentences. As much as I read, it was a great read, when it is proofed greart

I was not familiar with Jay Atkinson when I picked up Treestand, but was intrigued by both the title and description of the stories. This is a collection of north eastern noir, with plenty of gritty often sad occurrences of everyday life. I couldn’t help but be reminded of one of my favorite authors, Harry Crews. Then to my surprise I learned that Mr. Atkinson not only attended 6 semesters of classes taught by Crews but was also good friends with him. There is definitely more than “one good sentence” in this anthology, well done.

Something was off about these stories. Some of the terminology seemed dated and didn’t suit the characters speaking it. Not a bad collection but not cohesive.
