Solid murder mystery. Adele is engaged and living with her fiancé and ready to plan their wedding. Out of the blue she learns her first real boyfriend has committed suicide. She attends the funeral catching up with old friends. But when her second boyfriend ends up dying in a car accident she begins to think something is amiss. She has had six real relationship and when she receives mysterious she believes someone is killing the men from her past and threatening her future.

I like the premise. You get a good view of Adele’s life as she thinks back on her boyfriends from school, university and beyond. Not all were good men. Sadly I don’t have a lot of empathy for Adele or her fiancé Tom. Although she is professional in her accounting work she spends a surprisingly amount of time getting drunk with her girlfriend. Not just drinks after work. But stumbling home and ignoring your partner drunk. The author does create some tension in the story but because the threats are to her boyfriends and not Adele herself I never feel she is at risk. And since I know very little about Tom, other than she loves him (but not enough to stay home and not get drunk with her friend), I didn’t care that danger is heading his way.

I listened to audiobook and Lorna Bennett carries the majority of the telling with only a few chapters for Chris Devon. Lorna with her British accent brings does well as Adele telling her story. The story flows quickly the audiobook taking 7.5 hours. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

After sowing her wild oats, Adele has finally met the man of her dreams and is settling down with Tom. Life is good, then Adele learns that some of her ex-boyfriends are dying of what seem at first to be accidents, but as time goes on, and more dead wind up dead, it becomes clear that the deaths are intentional as the men are killed in the chronological order they date Adele. Could Tom be so jealous that he’s willing to kill every man Adele’s ever been with?

Adele and Tom are engaged and looking forward to the future. She often gets migraines from a childhood injury and drinks too much when she is out with her friends. Tom loves Adele and lets her know her concerns. Adele is trying, however she gets some disturbing news which makes things more difficult.

She hears from her friend that her first boyfriend is found dead. He hung himself, or did he? He was in a good relationship with a child, but Adele had not seen him in years.

What comes next is unbelievable, all her ex boyfriends are showing up dead. They are killed off in order. She must find out who is doing this before they get to Tom. Will she find out in time?

This thriller will make you carefully consider what you post on social media! This woman is trying to find a killer before every boyfriend she ever had is dead. Some ppl never let things go!

I’ve seen books by this author making the rounds on Kindle Unlimited for a while now and I’ve been interested so when I received an advanced release copy of the upcoming audio in exchange for an honest review, I decided to borrow it on KU and read along with the audio which I love because it’s so handy. The narration was great.

Adele is out with a friend and finds out that her ex dies, seemingly by suicide. She’s shocked. He’s married with a family. It’s tragic. She finally stumbles in drunk to her current fiancé Tom. He’s irritated but under the circumstances, he understands. This becomes a common theme through the book though and it gets annoying.

She decides to go to her ex’s funeral. Again she gets drunk, I assume at the funeral bar? Not sure what kind of funeral this is! Anyway she’s stumbling home again and finds out another ex is dead. This is getting too weird. She’s the only link between them.

Between Adele’s slurred drunken words, we get chapters of “The Boyfriend” which are super creepy and give us an interesting glimpse into the mind of the bad guy, who we assume is one of her exes or he wanted to be.

Rumors are swirling and obviously her every move is being scrutinized because of her boyfriends dying but she’s mostly consumed by her daily hangovers.

This was an interesting and quick read but I am begging authors to stop relying so much on drunk female narrators. It’s very popular right now but played out and sometimes downright annoying. This one didn’t really require the idiocies of a drunk. It just made her more of a self-absorbed and unsympathetic character. It did have a neat ending and epilogue though so it’s worth it I just wish authors would use this trope less.

I loved the premise of the book but the characters were very unlikeable.
Adele has finally found her soulmate, but if Tom is that person, her bar is not set real high for a soulmate. He's very jealous and petty. Adele is an alcoholic and very self absorbed, so I guess they are meant to be together.

We are told the stories of all of Adele's relationships and now their demise. They are dying from mysterious causes and in the order she dated them. Adele has to figure out who and why before the killer gets to Tom, her true love 😁
Everyone is a suspect.

I did not find the story very suspenseful and the killer's motive was weak.

I would like to thank Net Galley, Inkubator Books and the author for an ARC copy of this book for an honest review

Adele has finally found her soulmate in Tom. They are engaged and planning their wedding. But then Adele's ex-boyfriends are dying one after the other. Accidental deaths? Initially they appear to be accidental, but soon Adele and the police begin to believe the men, who are dying in the order she dated them are being murdered. Believing that Tom will be the final victim, Adele tries to find the killer herself.

This was an entertaining and fast read/listen. Things moved at a nice pace. Readers/listeners get the POV of Adele and "The boyfriend". Readers are not given his identity and as Adele's boyfriends were being killed off, I kept wondering which boyfriend??

Enjoyable, entertaining, and engaging!

I listened to the audiobook and felt the narrators did a great job.

Someone is killing off all of your ex-boyfriends.

What's a gal to do?

In "The Boyfriend", Adele is engaged to Tom, the love of her life and sixth boyfriend. When planning her wedding, Adele gets notified daily about the deaths of her five previous beaus.

Will her fiance Tom be the next victim?

Even though the book had a very, very slow start, author Daniel Hurst is a gifted storyteller who always keeps readers engaged and second-guessing until the final chapter.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT. Since the murderer's name was not mentioned until the very end of the book, I was unable to guess the ending.

Did Daniel Hurst purposely not introduce the murderer early on because he did not want readers to guess the murderer's identity?

I listened to the audiobook and the two narrators were good but not great.

I am a huge fan of Daniel Hurst and will continue to listen to his fast-paced and captivating popcorn thrillers.

Some of Daniel Hurst's books are better than others and, unfortunately, this was not one of his besties.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow I really enjoyed this audiobook! It was crazy and kept me guessing and glued to my seat the whole time!

Overall this book was good. It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. It kept me interested in finding out who the killer was. "The Boyfriend" chapters were creepy AF but in a good way. I have issues with the characters and their relationships but I felt they were well-written to be these crappy people, lol. I didn't particularly like the way it was wrapped up but I get it. A quick read that was, for me, enjoyable enough to listen all the way through.

The narrator was enjoyable. I felt she gave enough different voice/inflection to each character to be easy to differentiate. The other narrator for the Boyfriend chapters was good too.

I have one gripe..... I felt quite offended by Chapter 43. Does the author think that we, as thriller readers, can't infer ANYTHING AT ALL?! I don't need to be hand-held like this. Literally we didn't need to have it spelled out "I followed her on social media, that's how I knew about all the boyfriends" GEE, really, ya think?!?!?!? .......not only was this inferred to as a possible way the killer knew earlier in the book but like.... you literally just told us this guy is the killer.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape for the audiobook to read and review.

Daniel Hurst's THE BOYFRIEND is an engaging twisty suspense thriller of obsession with a series of ex-boyfriends murdered with many red herrings and suspects.

Will the current fiancé Tom be next?

Adele Davies has had a colorful past with many boyfriends and lovers after traveling the world. She was also in a car crash when she was younger. She also hit her head when she was sixteen and does not remember everything.

She is finally ready to settle down with the love of her life Tom. They are planning their wedding, and she is a thirty-six-year-old accountant.

She has a great BFF, Nicola, she likes to go drinking with (she drinks a lot). When she is out with her friend one night, she learns her first boyfriend just committed suicide. She cannot even imagine him doing something like this. She attended the funeral because she knew his parents and his friends.

Next, it happened again. Each time was something different. At first, the deaths seem accidental, but soon a sinister pattern emerges. Adele’s former partners are being killed off in the order, she dated them.

In the meantime, she and Tom are trying to plan a wedding, and things are tense between them with all the ex-boyfriends being murdered. She also has a venue picked out for the wedding, and her old friend (estranged), Rachel, works there as a wedding planner, and she does not trust her.

Adele begins receiving texts with warnings about how many left to go. When the count gets to 5 and going on six, her current fiance and live-in boyfriend is next.

Thus far, killings in order of dating them.
Shaun Gibson - Her first boyfriend. Death: Suicide.
Calum Jenkins. Second boyfriend from University. Death: Car Accident.

Three down. Three to go.

Ryan Harris. Boyfriend at age 25. New Zealand. Death: House fire.

She only has two more exes. Ash and Jesse, but her sixth boyfriend is her current one. Tom will be last. These deaths aren't random. They are planned. They are not over.

Ash Sweeney. Death: Attacked.
Jesse Addams: Last boyfriend before Tom at age 30. (violent one and went to prison) Death: Stabbed to death.

One to go. The cops even tried to arrest Tom.

We also hear from THE BOYFRIEND POV. The creepy no-name guy. The killer. He is watching. NO NAME

Tom thinks she is crazy and drinks too much. The police PC Brown does not take her seriously and until it gets to Tom. Tom is knifed and winds up in the hospital. Then they take it seriously. He is the last one.

Who could be doing this sinister act and killing off her exes? She has no clue to help the police. Jesse was the only violent one. It must be someone she knows, or how else would know about her past boyfriends unless on social media?

She feels like she should reach out and warn the rest.

From obsession to murder, will they discover the killer's identity before he gets to Tom? Will there be a wedding?

My first book by the author, Daniel Hurst, and look forward to reading more. A fun read to find out the motives behind the killings. Read/listened in one sitting.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Lorna Bennett and Chris Devon for an engaging and entertaining performance. I also purchased the e-book.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeAudio for an ALC to listen to, enjoy, and review.

This is a book about a 36 year old who is living and loving life. Engaged to get married, she soon learns that her first love has died. It isn’t very long until she is notified that now her second serious boyfriend has also tragically passed. As things keep progressing and another boyfriend is dead she starts to honestly freak out.

I personally enjoyed this book. It had me constantly trying to figure out who the bad guy was and I can honestly say I never even got close. I also appreciated the way it went into the main characters mental state. The constant worry, fear, and paranoia. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good mystery/thriller. The narration was done very professionally.
