Jill Gardner and Greg King try getting away for a long weekend so they can finally make some decisions about their upcoming wedding. Apparently it wasn't meant to be because police detective Greg got a call from work and he had to rush back. It seems that someone was stabbed and fell into the doorway of the police station.

Back in South Cove, one of the Coffee, Books, and More employees is having a crisis so Jill pitches in to help.

If that wasn't enough, Jill is being harassed by a local developer that wants to buy her home.

Could it be that all of these events are related?

I really love reading books by Lynn Cahoon!

Solid mystery in the series. I love the setting and the people of South Cove, especially the way the employees of the bookstore have become a family. The identity of the victim isn't known until over halfway into the book making it a little more difficult to investigate. All in all, a good series that I will continue to read.

It was hard to believe, but Greg and Jill actually got away on a little vacation before he got called back, probably a record of some kind for them, lol. I wondered if the slight weirdness of seeing various people in their vacation getaway of Apple Valley might turn around and be connected to the current case Greg got called to.

I love the crossovers going on with this series and the author's other two. I decided to review this one first but I did also finish the latest in the Cat Latimer series where Deek went to a writer's conference, although the one he attended in this book probably wasn't that since this book's taking place in spring. And I'd read the first with her new MC Eddie in it a while back and learned Esmerelda was girlfriend to one of the guys. He got a mention in this book but not by name or location, just that he's halfway across the country. It's just fun when authors plan those little surprises for readers.

I honestly had trouble trusting some of the newer characters in the book this time but now that I know who can be trusted, I'm eager to read the next book and find out more about them. Jill did once more find herself as the blurb said, in the crosshairs of a killer but she always thinks of something smart to do. I enjoyed the ending and can't wait to read about Greg and Jill's wedding hopefully the next time around.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, an my opinions are my own.

A Vacation to Die For by Lynn Cahoon is a Tourist Trap Mystery and takes us back to South Cove where we reunite with our friends there. Jill and Greg are now engaged and beginning to plan a wedding. Amy and Justin are married and having a few problems adjusting. Deek is working hard on his novel and Evie is beginning to plan to start school in the fall. She is excited to be going back to college after her horrendous marriage and divorce. There is a new business in town: a yarn shop, and even Jill plans to attend, learn how to crochet, and make come blanket for NICU babies. The goal for the project is 100 blankets, although knowing Jill and crafts, she’ll be lucky if she makes one. Jill and Greg have taken a trip up the coast just to get a couple of days away. Of course, Greg is called back early. It seems a man who had been stabbed, entered the police station and died in the entry. No one knew who he was. Jill had Amy join her for the last couple of days and they had a girls’ weekend. It was fun.

This dead man contributed to the complications around Emma’s clock. Her father-in-law had given it to her and now her sister-in-law, Becky, and ex-husband wanted it back. That was not happening but things got scary for Evie. She found John, the ex, watching her and waiting for her. They both made threats. Then one night when she was in the shop alone, Becky came into threaten her some more and there ended up being a fight with Evie on the floor. Toby was right there to help. There is so much more to this book, including some heavy-handed offers to buy her house, several new friends, and a murder threat. The mystery was pretty good, although Jill didn’t get as involved as she does sometimes. It was a fun read.

A Vacation to Die For is book #14 in A Tourist Trap Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon.

Hill and her fiancé, Greg, take a trip to a nearby town to get away and make wedding plans. Unfortunately there is a murder back home and Greg has to go back.

This was an entertaining story. I couldn’t put it down. There was the murder and another mystery and it was interesting how they were wrapped up. I really like the characters and how they are supportive of each other. I look forward to the next book.

Thank you to the author, Kensington Books, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Welcome back to South Cove! Our beloved Jill and her fiancée, Greg, have decided to go away for a mini vacation. Sadly, things don't go according to plan. A dead body shows up at home- but no one knows who it is. While Greg heads off to deal with that situation, Jill overhears a fellow guest's conversation. Never did she dream that they would meet up again- in South Cove. Nor, did Jill expect said guest was a cranky one with an agenda.

Jill's newest employee, Evie, is still dealing with the aftermath of her recent divorce. Turns out her ex's sister, Becky, is the guest Jill overheard on the phone. Becky has decided she wants the clock her father gave to Evie as a wedding gift. She makes is clear that she won't leave without it. Evie's jerky ex even gets in on the demands. What's the deal with the clock? Why is it such a big deal to get their hands on? And just which old time Hollywood actress is associated with it?

A Vacation to Die For has lots of strings waiting for you untie as you read. I enjoyed catching up with my favorite beach town residents. The book was a quick, but enjoyable read. Once the story got going, you couldn't help but try to guess what was happening and who was involved. This is a great book to curl up with. Spend a weekend revisiting fictional friends and solve a mystery, or two, while you do it.

It's always great to get back to this series. In this entry, we get to see all the familiar characters and this time a murder actually involves one of the characters we know. The suspects were interesting and the plot engaging. I always enjoy this series, but this one seemed particularly good with both the mystery and the characters development.

If you like this series, you don't want to miss this one. I could be read as a standalone, but you'd miss so much character development, I really suggest starting at the beginning.

If great charactered-centric cozy mysteries are your cup of tea, A Vacation to Die For is the perfect book for you. I loved it! A visit to South Cove always makes my day and A Vacation to Die For offered one of my favorite visits. This 14th novel in Lynn Cahoon’s Tourist Trap Mystery series has a challenging mystery or two, but its focus in on the great people who work with Jill at Coffee, Books, and More and their friends makes it especially fun. Jill and Greg finally get that mini vacation to plan their wedding, but naturally, Greg is called back to deal with the murder of an unidentified man. This might be Greg’s toughest case, but that leaves little for Jill to work with, not that that keeps her from thinking about the mystery, but she is more focused on helping one of her new employees who is being harassed by her ex-husband and his family. The comradery of the coffee/bookshop and within the community is what most draws me to this series so A Vacation to Die For is a just-right read for me.
I want to thank NetGalley and Lyrical Press for approving my request for an ARC. I pre-ordered the book because I loved this series; I requested an ARC because I cannot wait to get my hands on books from this series. Not only was I not disappointed, I think it is the best book in the series. That is a tough call so I can't say it 100%

A Vacation to Die For is the latest in the Tourist Trap series by Lynn Cahoon. I am always excited when she releases a new book in this series. A Vacation to Die For was just what I needed to read. It is a cozy mystery about Jill Gardner and her fiancé Greg King. Jill owns Coffee, Books and More the local coffee shop in South Cove. Greg is the lead detective in the police department in. Once again, a murder takes place in this touristy town. This time, the man dies in the lobby of the police station. Greg has to cut short his long weekend vacation with Jill to investigate. Jill stays at the inn and overhears a curious telephone conversation. To Jill’s surprise, the women on the phone ends up in Coffee, Books and More. Is she involved in the mystery?
The Tourist Trap books are fun reads. You get invested in the lives of the citizens of South Cove. Cahoon has added a few new residents to keep things interesting. I am always excited to see a new Tourist Trap book released. I haven’t been disappointed in one yet. Five Stars.

Just when Jill and her police detective fiancé Greg settle into a much needed vacation, which is suppose to include deciding when they are getting married, Greg is called back to their hometown of South Cove to investigate a homicide. He encourages Jill to stay at the B&B and invite her friend Amy to stay with her. Of course as soon a she returns home, she finds it impossible to stay out of the investigation, much to Greg's aggravation (when will he learn to leave her alone to do her sleuthing?).

Lots of twists and turns and red herrings keep this cozy mystery interesting and moving forward at a fast pace. I love Jill, Greg, and all the townspeople. And I want to visit South Cove (but maybe without a murderer running loose. LOL)
One of my favorite series to read. I hope it continues.

Many thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

This is not a series I usually read even if I appreciate the author and know it's entertaining. I saw the cover and couldn't resist requesting it.
It's a very entertaining, well plotted and solid story that kept me guessing. The mystery is solid and the characters are fleshed out.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Ms. Cahoon has done it again in this fourteenth book in her Tourist Trap cozy mystery series. From the first page to the end I was completely absorbed into the story.

An intricate plot with plenty of twists, several red herrings that unfortunately worked for me and led me off the path until the the the reveal. I enjoy visiting South Cove and catching up with the residents and CBM employees throughout the story. There were some interest side stories throughout the book but they never detracted from the main story line but added more depth to the employees and residents of South Cove.

A Vacation to Die For by Lynn Cahoon is the fourteenth A Tourist Trap Mystery. It can be read as a standalone if you are new to the series. If you read the series in order, it will allow you to get to know the characters and the town. Lynn Cahoon has a conversational writing style that makes her stories easy to read. Jill and Greg are engaged and living together in Jill’s charming seaside home. They are getting ready to take a long weekend to a nearby oceanside town. Jill is glad to getaway because a hotel developer has been bothering her. Max Winter wants to put a hotel on her property and has offered her a sizable amount of money. Jill has no intention of selling her beloved home. Jill and Greg are enjoying their holiday until Greg gets called back to South Cove when a man walks into the police station with a knife sticking out of his stomach. Jill enjoys the rest of her vacation with her bestie, Amy. When Jill returns to town, Greg refuses to give her any details on the case. She does know that they victim has yet to be identified. Jill cannot help it if she happens upon helpful information on Greg’s case. Evie, one of Jill’s employees, is having trouble with her ex-husband and ex-sister-in-law. They want a clock that was given to her by her deceased father-in-law, and they are do not take no for an answer. The mystery was on the light side. I kept waiting for something (anything) to happen. It all comes together at the end with the reveal. I wanted more mystery and less of Jill jogging with Emma, eating, and reading. I am not a fan of how Greg treats Jill at times. He tells her not to job on the beach because a killer is on the loose or tells her not to investigate (I am not sure why Jill puts up with it). Jill and Greg are working on their wedding plans. They are picking the date and venue. Jill is nervous because they have yet had a discussion regarding their finances. Readers who prefer the cozy over the mystery will enjoy this story. A Vacation to Die For is a sweet story, but I felt it needed some action (a little oomph) and definitely more investigating. I did find one thing a little odd. Jill sat writing out checks to pay her personal bills and then was mailing them out. This is a digital age where everything can be taken care of online. Another item that bugged me is all the “rules” Aunt Jackie has put in place regarding Jill’s business. If Jill finds them annoying or unnecessary, I do not know why she does not say something. A Vacation to Die For is a charming cozy with a troublesome ex-relative, a weekend away, a determined developer, an importunate mayor, tasty sweets, a mysterious victim, a curious clock, timely repasts, and premarital planning.

A Vacation to Die For was the first Tourist Trap mystery I’ve read. Set in a California beach 5own, it focus on Jill, owner of a local coffee and bookstore, and her fiancée, the police chief. Friends abound, dogs are akin to main characters. An unknown man stumbles into the police station, stabbed, then dies. Jill tries to help Greg solve the murder while helping out with a community project at the yarn shop. All in all a great book! I look forward to reading others!

Jill owns a bookstore, her boyfriend Greg, is the sheriff, and her dog (and running partner) is Emma. Together they live in an historic and beautiful house Jill inherited from an aunt. And she doesn't ever intend to sell it.

The mayor of South Cove; a picturesque and cozy seaside town (apparently with desirable surfing for a few), is Max Winter. A schemer determined to draw big business to the town--for his own benefit. And Jill's house is in a prime spot. He arranges or encourages buyers to pressure Jill into selling.

Evie is the bookstore's new barista, her cro-magnon ex-husband and his harpy sister want something Evie owns, and they are very, very determined.

The dead man is a mystery. Who is he, who killed him, and who benefits? Some hope it's Max.

This is a nice cozy mystery with a couple of mild swear words near the end. The rest is clean and entertaining, in a slower-paced town atmosphere. It's true that trouble seems to catch-up with Jill more often than not, but she always has good intentions.

4/5 Stars

Maybe I missed it in the previous 13 books, but Greg is a detective in a small tourist town on the coastal highway in California, only because the mayor doesn’t want to give him the title and salary of a police chief. I honestly don’t remember that ever being mentioned before, but now it makes sense why South Cove, with an abundance of murders and body dumps, requires a detective. I also wonder why they need a detective since Jill Gardener, owner of Coffee, Books, and More, tends to solve all the murders, and Greg is always a step behind.

Jill and Greg head out on a vacation of sorts as they try and plan their upcoming nuptials, only to have (not surprising) Greg called back early. Then add in the confusion of detective, almost police chief, Greg asking his barista girlfriend to step in and investigate for him and then getting mad when she digs up information. Honestly, the junior high antics of these two are beginning to wear on me.

Even though you knew the names of the culprits and where the story was going, the ending still felt rushed. There are a few continuity issues and places where Lynn Cahoon could have done a little more research; overall, the book wasn’t bad. Not the best of the cozy mystery genre, but after 13 previous books, the reader gets used to the people of South Cove, and it’s nice to check in with them again.

Where will the two of them head next? No way of telling with a ten-week premarital financial seminar on the horizon and two adults that can’t seem to find time for each other yet can step on each other’s toes.

This is the fourteenth installment in the Tourist Trap Mystery series. It is a standalone story.

I liked the entire story. It is too bad there are people that act like all the bad people in the story. I really felt bad for Evie. Hoping she can put the exes in her past and move forward.

There are some changes for the book crew and I know they’ll get them worked out. I like how they act like a functional family. I see Jill taking steps to open up to others.

As a bonus, there are recipes at the end of the book. I was hoping for a simple crochet baby blanket pattern but alas, there wasn’t one.

I am looking forward to the next installment.

I was given an advanced readers’ copy by Netgalley and am not required to leave a positive review. I chose to do so.

The Tourist Trap Series has long been a favorite and the 14th in the series, A Vacation to Die For, does not disappoint - it's just as good as all the others in the series. Jill Gardner and fiance police detective Greg King are finally getting away for the weekend to plan their wedding, but unfortunately, Greg is called back to South Cove when a man stumbles into the police station and dies. This book also finds Jill fending off unwanted offers from a very persistent developer to purchase her beloved home, investigating mysteries surrounding the developer and his wife, facing staffing shortages and staff with troubles of their own, and dealing with many questions around her pending marriage. Greg and Toby are working way too many hours solving the murder, Aunt Jackie has cut back her hours to spend time with her new husband, and employee Evie, who now lives in Aunt Jackie's old apartment above the shop, is facing demons from her past life that include her ex-husband and his sister.

There are so many different angles to this story it's wonderful! What does Jill investigate first? I have no idea how she keeps Coffee, Books and More running with all of the issues these people face! But, true to form, with the help of her staff, Aunt Jackie, and friends in South Cove, she puts all of the pieces together and unravels the many connections among the characters and the dead man, eventually helping Greg solve the crime. Of course the murder is not solved without Jill finding herself in the culprit's crosshairs.

Not only is this a fantastic mystery, but all the characters are people you wish you were friends with. Jill, Greg, Amy, Aunt Jackie, Toby are like good friends you see once a year. Evie is a great addition to the series and jumps right in to help Jill with her sleuthing, adding some very valuable information along the way. Deek is a favorite with his 'perpetual student' persona, growing into a good writer and his ability in helping people find exactly the right book. All of the characters form one cohesive family and you get so wrapped up in their lives that you sometimes forget a murder has been committed!

This murder was difficult to solve, although I did suspect there was more going on with one of the characters than was explained until the very end. The final reveal of the culprit was surprising and unexpected. This book was difficult to put down with all the twists, turns, red herrings and nuances thrown into the story - well done Ms. Cahoon!

I will continue to look forward to having many more adventures with Jill and the South Cove crew and highly recommend this book and all of the others in the series.
