Pros:

I like that this book used a real and relatively lesser known disease as an obstacle to work around. It is nice to learn just enough to be curious and seek more information and usually books stick to well known issues.

The twists and unraveling the secrets is well done and by keeping everything single perspective the reader is along for the entire ride.

Cons:

It took a bit to get into the story and I did consider quitting a few times along the way.

I found this audiobook on my phone, no idea how long it had been there but gave it a go...
I didn't look up the book before I started so I had no idea what to expect and I was rewarded with a pretty good book with a lot of nuance, mystery and likeable characters. Georgia is a court sketch artist and she has a knack for drawing people as they really are, rather than how they are portraying themselves. I found her, her job, & her past very interesting and loved her character development. The supporting characters were charming as well and I don't think any of them were wasted or unnecessary. The audio was long but there is a lot of story to tell so it makes sense. All in all, this was a great surprise and I'm glad I found this book, I will seek out this author and check out her other works.

This audiobook did a fantastic job of pulling me into the mysteries that surround Georgia, a courtroom artist. Showing me the intriguing and complicated side of this profession.

Georgia sees things others don’t. These visions are an integral part of her work. They lead her to detect hidden elements of the accused and she uses them to create pictures that can sway jury members.

When she finds out she is going blind, it puts a new perspective on her visions and life in general. Several unpredictable twists made this an interesting read.

THE GOOD:
Narrator's voice is interesting to listen to and keeps your attention.
Interesting premise with Georgia, her drawings, and the fascinating stumbling block that is put in her way.
All is wrapped up with a positive outlook for the future, which is nice. 😊

THE BAD:
The conclusion seems a bit out of the blue, but I suppose it seems fitting once I got over what I felt was a left field surprise.

CONCLUSION: Recommended for suspense fans.

This book sucked me in and held my attention from start to finish. While I wouldn’t say it was anything groundbreaking, it was definitely interesting and took a different road to the child of a killer story that we typically get.

Thanks to NetGalley, I was able to listen to the audiobook and it was fantastic! The narrator nailed it with the emotions that were surrounding the characters at the time and gave light to the mystery as it was unfolding. It was fascinating- I loved it.

Georgia Sage has a unique gift, the ability to see evil in people. Employed as an artist working in courtrooms, the deft strokes of her drawing implements help to condemn those who commit terrible crimes. Has Georgia's own terrible past clouded her judgment? When she is drawn back into the trial that defined her career, will Georgia's own bias and personal issues let the guilty go free?

The Secrets You Hide was well narrated by Emma Powell, who brought Georgia to life. I personally think that, had I read the novel instead of listening to it, I might not have finished. The plot was a bit repetitive and, though the author might have thought it necessary to show Georgia's spiral, it was a bit sluggish.

That being said, I would recommend the audio version and I look forward to listening to more by author Kate Helm in the future.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Audio Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to listen to this audiobook was entirely my own.

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Would reread and love to see this as a tv show, not much in the description to go on but it was good

Unfortunately I struggled to get through this story. The narrator was good and the characters were well fleshed out, it just didn't grab and keep my attention. I did finish listening to the story and would say that it's an average read.

This was a solid read, with good character development and twists and turns. I didn't have the best time listening to it, but that's a me problem, as I could not connect with the narrator well enough to truly get immersed in the story. I do think that if I read it for myself, I would've enjoyed it more. But I enjoyed it! And will be reading Kate Helm again!

Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the DRC of this book.

First off, I loved the narrator, but the book just seemed to drag on for me. I think it could have been much shorter and the story would have still been told. I almost didn't finish this one but kept listening. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for this type of book when I listened.

Loved the narrator. Interesting concept. but the story failed to hold my attention. I just kept getting side tracked and distracted. I think if the story was a bit better it would have kept my attention.

Wonderful narrator!

I may have given up had I been reading rather than listening to this story. It was long, dragging in places, without adding a lot content.

The premise was quite interesting and different than what I was expecting. There were a few twists and red herrings along the way. The conclusion was satisfying. Overall, this was entertaining and I would read more by this author.

Georgia has an unusual career as a courtroom artist. But not your typical artist. She possesses the ability to see the evil in people and weave that into her drawings. Making her one of the top in her field.

But Georgia has secrets from her past that she’s managed to keep hidden her entire adult life. But when she starts having hallucinations she’s certain she’s losing her mind. Unfortunately, she discovers the reason for the freakish images could be so much worse.

I had trouble following along as the storyline progressed. Georgia’s character seemed to immediately change once the reason for the hallucinations was found. And the amount of characters (real or otherwise👻) just left me confused.

I listened to the audio and enjoyed the narrator, but overall just an average experience.

There are many glowing reviews so I hope your experience is better!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media🎧

I was hesitant to read this book, as it didn't sound appealing to me, especially after I read the reviews. Boy was I wrong, this book is amazing! It's fast paced and kept me wanting for more. I was glad to see that everything was wrapped up in the end and that Georgia didn't do what she wanted to do.

I wish we could have heard more about Daniel and Jim's relationship. But, I know that's not really what this book was about. I just got invested into the characters and want to hear more!

I had never heard of Best's Disease before and it was interesting learning about that. If only her father would have gotten help, but then there would be no book!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was an interesting concept, the impact that a disease can have on the mind and the consequences that can occur from hiding your past, but I was unimpressed with the book as a whole. It felt almost like the author was trying too hard to make everything fit into a structured outline for a psychological thriller instead of letting the story blossom on it’s own. There were a few good plot twists but they seemed to fall short in that they were just slapped together and ended up being confusing instead of tying things together in a tidy way. It also felt drawn out way too long. I think the wrap up of Georgia's relationship with her father was the only saving grace in the book. It explained some things from the beginning that I was happy to have answered.

Special thanks to Dreams cape Media and NetGalley for the audio ARC.

I really liked this one. I'm a little late in rating it. Georgia, is a courtroom artist. . Georgia has the gift of seeing evil in people and she uses her talent to sway the jury, because she just knows she is 100% in her ability to see evil and good.

But when the trial that made her career, The Slater Family trial, she may have made a mistake. Now she is questioning herself has she shown innocent people as guilty and vice versa. Is she in danger? Is she losing her.mind?

I can't say anymore but this is a solid read with twists and turns. I am going to search more books by author Kate Helm after this review. Highly recommend. 4 stars.

Suspense until the very end. Georgia keeps you on your toes throughout this book. Just when you think you fully understand what is going on, a new idea is introduced. Going on the emotional journey with Georgia was wonderful and really had me thinking in the end.
