Dang, I can't image being told you'd go blind in general but when you're an artist and seeing is integral to your artistry? No way, man!

This book was so good with all the twists and turns and danger! She kicks butt being so resilient and dogged in trying to find the real truth!! I need to read more of Kate Helm's books!!

The Secrets You Hide has a great plot and premise but misses in the execution. The story seemed to drag on a bit and I did find myself fast-forwarding through portions to get to the interesting parts.

Interesting mystery told from the point of view of a courtroom artist. Keeps you guessing. I would definitely recommend and read another book from this author. Engaging mystery and great audiobook!

I loved the premise of this book. Seeing courtroom drama through the eyes of a courtroom artist! This book had drama and mystery, and I think the narrator did an excellent job bringing these characters to life. With that being said, I felt like the first half dragged a bit. The last half picked up and the twists were very exciting. I would recommend this book to my friends and just give them a heads up that it does pick up and it’s so worth it.

Thank you netgalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in advance!

Georgia believes she can see what others are trying to hide. She uses her intense abilities, as a courtroom artist, to sway verdicts and popular opinions. Given the opportunity to revisit an old case, with a commission for a book, she delves into the past. Her previous choices, and her own past, haunt her as she begins to question if she's really been seeing the truth or if she's been deceiving herself and others.

This is a great mystery that unfolds on multiple[e layers. Explaining Georgia's past and the crimes of everyone involved. The conclusion is satisfying, even if it was a little predictable. It was quick great listen on audio.

This book by Kate Helm had a unique premise and storyline, The protagonist, Georgia Sage, has the gift of seeing evil in people. She’s a courtroom artist, and I found this to be an interesting topic. In the first courtroom case involving a football player and rape allegations, she starts experiencing hallucinations and other difficulties, that she tries to hide from others. As the story unfolds, you find that she’s afflicted with a genetic problem that is affecting her mentally and physically. This obviously causes problems for her being able to function correctly and do her job. I thought this book was interesting and I learned a lot about what courtroom artists do and the reality of a specific genetic condition I’d never heard of before. There were some slow parts, it it was still an enjoyable read and I feel the narrator did a great job. All in all, I give the book 3.5 stars.

Thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this audiobook of The Secrets You Hide by Kate Helm.

Georgia Sage is a courtroom artist with a troubled past. She has a gift of being able to see evil in others and tell whether they are truly innocent or not. Georgia is being drawn back into the trial that started her career. And now she is wondering if she may have gotten it all wrong.
I have mixed feelings about this one. The ending was really good and I like how everything finally comes together but it took a long time to get there. The first half or so of this was extremely slow and boring for me. I found myself wanting to quit several times. The last half finally does pick up and I didn't see any of the twists coming but I wish it was a little more exciting and maybe a little shorter along the way. There was a lot of dull, unnecessary information. I also had a hard time connecting with the main character so that didn't help. She has way too much self-pity for me. The ending really threw me though and that is what saved me from giving this a two star rating. The narrator for this was a good fit.
Many thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for accepting my request to read and review The Secrets You Hide.

Author: Kate Helm
Published: 09/06/22
Narrator: Emma Powell
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

Right away I was drawn into the story by narrator Emma Powell. She has a Rebecca dark noir voice: "Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again.". Oh yes, I was ready.

Helm writes a new back story for me. I have never seen the world through the eyes of a courtroom artist. I enjoyed every bit of what she showed. Throughout the story, the artist thinks about her past as well as the people she is drawing. There is no book without a mystery. I found the story interesting and teared up several times.

The author introduces what I find has to be an artist's nightmare. This was respectfully written. As this is a work of fiction, I didn't verify any claims. Reading is a hobby and each genre can be written realistically. If this were a text book or nonfiction book, I would have looked a thing or two up.

There is a fair amount of family drama, stranger drama, and profanity. However, at the end of the book I was satisfied and happy with how I chose to spend my time. I recommend going into this book with little information and let the story unfold.

Finally, the red herring is an old overused trope. 3.5 stars (not rounding up).

I loved this one! It was a page turner and hard to put down. It begins as a court room thriller where Georgia, the main character, is a courtroom artist at a rape trial. But it quickly moves to Georgia’s past and her investigation of a crime that was personal to her. As Georgia hallucinates and questions her own sanity, many twists unfold. Who is real? Who is a figment of her imagination? I loved that this story moves along at a good pace. It’s difficult to review this one without giving away spoilers so I’ll just leave it at that. Amazing fun read!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was interesting and griping. The story did seem to drag on at certain points, but the genetic illness that was introduced was very intriguing and added to the narrator.

I really enjoyed this mystery/thriller set in the world of a courtroom artist! It was an interesting profession to learn more about and there were lots of twists I didn't see coming. I listened to the audio version and truly enjoyed the narrator and story line. The story follows Georgia, a courtroom artist, who puts so much of her skills into her art to help get a guilty verdict. Georgia has had a hard past, and now she struggles to maintain a constant foot in her present like as her childhood trauma and poor foster care starts to seep back into her daily life.

This book is fast paced and has a likeable main character. You find yourself feeling for her and wanting better things for her life. Twists and turns you didn't see coming, keeps you wanting more.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Multi-layer and deeply engaging, The Secrets You Hide grabs your attention and keeps it until the last page. With her childhood trauma and current new illness, the protagonist Georgia captures your empathy and emotions with each shock and twist. I enjoyed this thriller, but in the end I wish there weren’t quite as many storylines throughout. It set my brain into overdrive and I was relieved to be done reading it.

I finished listening 🎧 to this one yesterday. I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t hate it. It’s definitely an interesting plot, I didn’t even know there was any such thing as a courtroom artists. It pulled me in right away, but then it got a little slow in the middle, and didn’t really hold my attention until closer to the end.

This book had a really interesting premise. A Courtroom artist is suddenly seeing a young child in need of help. Is he connected to one of her cases?
Although I really liked the idea behind this one, I did struggle a bit to connect to the main character.

I listened to the audio version and enjoyed the narrator. The book had an interesting storyline and even better twist. However, I felt like the story dragged on and on with little to hold my interest until the twisty parts.

This was okay.
Great plot idea and interesting characters, but quite a bit longer than it needed to be.
With a lot of unnecessary bits this probably could have been 1/2 as long.
I loved the narrator (Emma Powell), so at least there was a fabulous voice guiding me along.
Thanks to NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for my DRC.
