How Do Ants Survive a Flood?: A Book about Bugs by Chason McKay, narrated by Jesús E. Martínez, is a children's nonfiction book. Have you ever wondered what makes bugs so special? The latest addition to the How Do series dives into all of the unique things spiders, worms, ladybugs, and many other insects can do.

How Do Ants Survive a Flood? probably works better as a read along to go with the print edition, or as a print edition on its own. I liked the information in the book, and thought that the chosen facts and phrasing were very well done. However, as an adult listening to this book in the car I have to admit that the attempts to do the effect of chorused voices asking the different subject headers did not work for me, and I found some of the voices annoying. I understood the intent, to entertain and engage children, but you do not always need to be goofy to hold their attention. I also found the pauses to be problematic unless you have a print copy in hand and can use that time to study the pictures. I feel like this is a through back to the read along books with records that we had in my kindergarten days. I think used in that capacity this book and audiobook would be great, but as a stand alone audiobook I was less than thrilled.

The nature of this book makes the audiobook less desirable than a physical copy. I would love to get a copy of this from the local library or bookstore to be able to see the pictures and have the directions and steps for the experiments. My kids have asked to listen to it several times and love the audiobook but again just one that would be better in print.
If audiobooks are needed for accessibility I would still recommend this book you just don't get the full effect of it on audio when comparing the two.
It taught my kids (and me) some fun new facts as we listened.

This was an adorable adventure into the world of bugs for littles. We found all of the cool creepy crawly facts to be fascinating and it inspired an adventure into our backyard.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

How Do Ants Survive a Flood? is a fascinating book about insects for children. The book features all sorts of unique facts about a variety of bugs. It would be best for children in early elementary school. This will surely spur imagination and more questions and theories about how bugs behave and survive. The audiobook narrator is very engaging, which will capture children's attention.

Thank you Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for providing this audiobook ARC. All thoughts are my own.

Do you kids want to know all the things about worms, insects, and arachnids? If yes then this a super fun read. They will learn about how ants float, worms move, lady bugs in space, cicadas sing, and spider silk is helpful. The narrator, Jesús Martínez, is perfect for this audiobook. He is upbeat and fun for the littles and does not bore the adults. The book gives instructions on building a but hotel and a detailed glossary.
