A Home for the Cowboy by Tess Thornton.
Walker Ranch Book 1.
She’s a believer in lost causes. He just hopes she can believe in him. Morgan Westcott is watching her dream slip away. Burned in love and with no family left to lean on, she is trying to build an equine therapy program from scratch in her little hometown. But help is hard to come by, funding is running low, and the writing is on the wall. Cody Haskins finally has his dream job. He’s risen to become one of the top cow horse trainers in the nation, and now he’s riding for the famous Walker Ranch Brand—the family that took him in when he was a kid. But he’s got a hole in his heart, a chip on his shoulder, and a hankering for the one thing that’s always slipped through his fingers. When Cody and Morgan team up to save a lost cause, it’s more than horses that get a fresh start. Trust and respect begin to grow, but old wounds are slow to heal. Will the disappointments of their pasts keep repeating themselves? Or can two people who never belonged anywhere else find a home together?
I really enjoyed this book. Great start to this series. Easy read. 5*.

A Home for the Cowboy was one of those books I just couldn't put down. Tess Thornton's detail and descriptive imagery had me dreaming of visiting horse farms and ranches in the west. Morgan and Cody's story was touching and complicated, and the horses were every bit as pivotal as the people. There are ups, downs, misunderstandings, tears, and most of all, love....love of animals, people, nature. I can't wait to read what's next in this series.

A Home for the Cowboy is a contemporary romance novel written by Tess Thornton. It is book one in the Walker Ranch series.

Summary: All Morgan Westcott wants to do is run her equine therapy program and help those in need. But when her prized horse dies, she knows it could spell the end of her dreams. She is working herself into the ground, and the money is running out-fast. Can she find a way to turn it all around?

Cody Haskins loves being a horse trainer. But when his boss decides to hand over a horse to the equine program, Cody isn’t sure it’s the best plan-and he makes his displeasure known. Things get even more complicated when he is tasked with helping Morgan prepare the horse for its new assignment.

Cody and Morgan get off to a rocky start, but soon realize they have more in common than they thought. Can they overcome their past relationships, and maybe, just maybe, start a new dream-together?

My Thoughts: This book is wonderful. There is a sweet romance, but it isn’t pie-in-the-sky. It’s a more realistic look of two people learning to work together-even though both have very scarred pasts. I really loved the dynamics of the relationship in this story, and how even though things got complicated, they communicated and worked on the issues together. There are so many interesting twists to the plot, and plenty of drama too. I really liked it. It’s a good, solid, clean romance, and I definitely recommend it.

I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Tess Thornton.

The writing style was engaging and the character development was very well done. I could identify with both Cody and Morgan.

I picked up the book mainly because of the setting. (I still love cow horses!) So maybe it was that this book isn’t my normal genre, but I found the story itself a bit flat. It started by introducing the characters through their own personal traumatic experiences and then it walked through the development of their relationship to each other. Trauma and connection were the sole drivers of the story. This made for beautiful main-character development, but I have to admit I would have liked the narrative to have been a bit broader. I’m not going to read the rest of the series.

All in all it was a well told story. If you want a focused, character driven romance and don’t mind wading through some trauma in the midst of it, then this book might be just what you are looking for.

I received a free digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

It was easy to fall in love with Cody and Morgan’s love story. The only part of the novel that was a little unbelievable, in my opinion, was the way Morgan dealt with the drama surrounding her mom. I recommend this if you’re looking for an fast, easy, light read.

This is great book! It's a well written story that will keep you turning the pages. It will make you laugh cry and feel every emotion in between. The author brings the book to life with her words and makes you feel like you are there. It was so good that I've pre-ordered the next book in the series.

This book with the two lead characters of Cody and Morgan for me was a little slow and took me a while to get into the story. It very well could be I was not familiar with what the author was describing or just me. I did get about the loss of the horse and other parts of the story but I just could not make a connection for some reason. I am sure others will enjoy this book.

Morgan is in a bit of a rough spot. She is living her dream, running an equine therapy center, in the home she spent much of her childhood in. Unfortunately the center's bills are stacking up, and her main therapy horse gets sick, and she has to make the terrible decision to end his suffering.

Cody is so close to reaching for what he's always thought he wanted - he's a top horse trainer, showing multiple horses in different events, with that big buckle in sight. But when his ex gets him rattled, he has an accident that will change so many lives...

I really enjoyed this book from Tess Thornton! I picked it up because equine therapy is a dream of mine, so I really connected with Morgan. I found her romance with Cody lovely in that they actually talk to each other most of the time, even when facing hurtful misunderstandings! I really appreciated that facing being an enabler was discussed in the book as well.

I did not find this to be a "Christian" romance, as I've always read the genre, as God is only mentioned once or twice that I recall. This is not a criticism on the book, merely an observation. Lastly, I will warn readers that as I mention in my summary, there is a horse death very early on in the book. While necessary for the story, I did cry, and debate whether or not I wanted to continue reading. I'm glad I did, as I did truly enjoy this story, and I look forward to reading Thornton's further Walker Ranch books!

My thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book! My review is entirely my own thoughts and opinions.

This was a sweet and fun book! I’m a sucker for cowboys and Cody did not disappoint. It was cool to learn about equine therapy as well. I enjoyed Morgan and Cody and how they came to love and trust each other. Super sweet!

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Morgan is a fighter and believes in hope and people. She runs a horse therapy center on a farm she inherited. Things start to become tight and as she fights to keep the place open she meets Cody and the Walker clan.

The Walkers are good people and they and Cody start to help Morgan with her needs, even providing a quality horse for her program.

Things start to happen when her mom shows up. Her mom starts problems between her and Cody, accidents are happening and a sick horse gets sick and not on accident.

With all the troubles will Cody and Morgan be able to hang on to their relationship through thick and thin?
4.5 stars

A lovely introduction to the walker family and ranch, both horse trainer Cody and equine therapy owner Morgan have trust issues caused by their upbringing, but this emotional book brings them together to overcome them. A good clean romance that tugs at the heartstrings, looking forward to reading more from this author.
