Book 2 in the Dr Hamlet Mottrell series. Another good read, interesting to see how Hamlet and Alix’s characters have changed since the first book. Looking forward to the next one in the series to see how Dr Mottrell is getting on in his new profession of being a detective

A well plotted and gripping thriller that kept me on the edge and surprised till the end.
Well developed characters, a solid plot.
Highly recommended.

Strong character development and a tightly woven plot make this a suspenseful read. The surprise ending was unexpected but not disappointing.

I loved this book it was really well written and fast paced, I couldn't put it down. I felt instantly attached to our main characters and invested in them. I do hope we hear more from them.

A police procedural set in and around Sheffield. Hamlet, previously a doctor, is now a newly qualified detective. He has lost his family due to crime and is now working alongside the polce who investigated the case. I liked the no-nonsense writing style very much, enough about the past is in the book to inform the reader, without too much repetition or unnecessary information.
The book kept me interested throughout and I liked the characters After the first arrest, I had the impression that the case was not completely cut and dried (won't say more) . I look forward to reading more about these detectives.

This is the second book in a series and it is fine as a standalone but I feel I would have had more context had I read the first one.

I liked the protagonist, recently cleared from a horrific investigation of the murder of his wife and their child, he seemed appropriately written and I enjoyed the plot but found it not as engaging as others.

I would recommend this book to everyone that read the first book or those looking for a new series with an unusual detective.

I’m very impressed with this book. First quarter was a bit slow, but after that I was hooked.
Former psychologist turned detective gets involved in the case of a missing girl which is more than he and is parter initially thought.
Five missing girls over 5 years with Sheffield Uni as a common.
Very well written and actually the ending was a surprise. I didn’t work out what the twist was. And when that happens I know it’s a great story.

Excellent.
Extremely pacy, great plot and superb characters.
It's evident from the beginning that this is number two in a series but it still works so well as a stand alone novel.
Already searching for others by this author.
Many thanks

I enjoyed this book. Plenty of twists to keep me guessing. I don't know if it's part of a series, but I read it as a standalone book and could follow the characters well. The plot moved along at a steady pace and with enough detail that is was easy to imagine the settings.

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. Having read the first book featuring Hamlet Mottrell I was really looking forward to this one and I wasn't disappointed, it grabbed me on the first page and didn't let go until the end, I am looking forward to the next book.

Second book in the series. I haven't read the first one and I think I would have preferred to read them in order although back story is provided. Some suspension of belief is perhaps required as to career options for certain characters but it is a fiction book after all! I liked the relationship between Hamlet and Alix and would look forward to other books in this series.

Dr Hamlet Mottrell has finally cleared his name in the brutal killing of his family, but the process destroyed his psychiatry career. He decided to retrain as a police detective and he has now joined the elite team of detectives that once investigated him. Their first case is the disappearance of a 21 year old woman after a night out in Sheffield. Does the weird wedding invitation she received have anything to do with her disappearance? Hamlet and his supervisor, DS Alix Rainbow soon find other young women are missing and they all received a similar invitation. Can they find the missing women and their stalker before anyone else is targeted.
I really wanted to enjoy the book more than I did. I really liked the idea of a former suspect joining forces with the police. I was happy they utilized his psychiatric knowledge. But, somehow, it just didn’t flow right. I’ll definitely read the next book as I suspect the series will just get better and better as the characters are fleshed out.

This is a book in a series about a forensic psychologist turned detective, Dr Hamlet Mottrell. This book focuses on the disappearance of a student who, it turns out, received calls and a wedding invitation prior to her disappearance.

I didn't really engage with either the writing or the storyline and so, for me, this was an OK read.

Thanks to NetGalley and Sapper books for the opportunity to preview.

I enjoyed this book. A good uncluttered crime police procedural. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series. Recommended.

This is part of a series and it seems to refer back to the 1st book quite a lot. It more of less spills the whole ending of the 1st book, the twists, the who's, what's where s, when's and whys of it all which has made me feel that there's now no point in actually reading the 1st book which was a shame.

I enjoyed the wedding killer. It was a bit far fetched to be fair with how it all panned out and all those wacky coincidences that made everything just click into place at the end. In saying that, the writing was good and kept me engaged. I wouldn't say there are many twists or turns but it's more of a police procedural book than a thriller or a suspense. It's a fine way to pass an afternoon though

Michael Fowler has added a second book to the Dr. Hamlet Mottrell series.

Dr. Mottrell was the primary suspect in the murder of his wife and unborn baby. He was not guilty - but the stain has led him into a new field of work - that of police detective.
Of all the people to be paired up with - the detective who once thought him to be the prime suspect in his family's murder! This relationship adds it's own element of tension.
They work together to solve the mystery of vanishing college students. As one turns into two......they realize they have a serial killer on their hand.
The mystery is good, the characters are filled out and the foray into complicated relationships make this an enjoyable read.
