I started reading this thinking that it was a happy go-lucky rom-com and instead found a very emotional coming of age romance. Which was the type of wholesomeness that my heart truly needed.

Hannah White managed to escape a domestic violence home to start a new life for her & her new daughter. In this small town, she meets Police Officer Andrew Brody and unexpectedly fall in love, while simultaneously healing.

Once I started reading, it was incredibly difficult to put this book down. I loved the writing style, I loved how the story flowed and kept me captivated. I love how invested I felt in these characters.

My only complaint is how quickly the relationship between Hannah & Brody developed. It felt odd how quickly she developed feelings after leaving an abusive relationship. I would have loved to see a deeper friendship develop first.

Thank you NetGalley & HQ Digital for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Someone Like You is a cutesy small-town romance akin to Safe Haven.

It was cute at times, and the romance, plot and characters were satisfying which is all I really look at when reviewing cute-romance books. Bullet - the dog is adorable, and I love him very much, but I'm a sucker for dogs.

I enjoyed the reading experience save for some issues where the POV would change mid-way through. I read a chapter via NetGalley and then finished the book via Kindle, and I found that at times the text was confused between third-person and first-person and which character was 'leading' the chapter. That being said it didn't ruin the experience for me; I just needed to double-check a few times when reading. I'm also not a fan of instant-love, and this was a very 'they-lock-eyes-and-love-is-immediate' book which I thought was odd given Hannah's background but also because I don't like instant-love as a trope.

Overall, I thought it was a pleasant, cute romance read.

Thanks to Netgalley, Team Harper Collins UK, and Rachel Dove as I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Someone Like You is released on September 21, 2022.

Book #178 of 2022.

I think the story of this novel is beautiful. I love that the authority figure MC in the story was not also the abuser, which often times is the case. The growth of the female MC was amazing and convincing, and I was really gunning for her. However, I think the characters were lacking their own voices, and I think it was confusing to switch perspectives midway through paragraphs without announcement or even just between paragraphs. I felt like some of the dialogue scenes didn’t make a lot of sense, I think there needed to be more context and descriptions. I think the prose of the novel was very straightforward, but it felt one dimensional and like I was reading a fact sheet rather than being in the characters’ heads. Overall, lovely story but I think it could use another round of edits.

Oh the dog in this book is just too adorable. This is a book that has alot of heart and also touches on some situations that are heartbreaking too. It is really well written. Which is what we have come to know and love about a Rachel dove book. I thought that this one held a bit more than normal to it. As it was a little different from the normal romantic storyline due to the events that had happened to the characters at the start of the book. But it is very well written and I really enjoyed it.

This book was just okay for me. Sometimes I struggle with the flow/writing style of UK authors and this one had a lot of slang that I’m not used to.

Someone Like You follows Hannah as she escapes her abusive husband, with her daughter Ava, to a small village in the hopes of hiding. It’s while there that she meets Brody, and she begins her journey to a new life.
It’s written in 3rd person but is also Dual POV. Sometimes it changes POV in the middle of chapters, sometimes for just a few paragraphs, which can be a little confusing if you’re not paying attention (nobody’s fault and has no effect on my rating but I was further let down by my kindle app just removing the paragraph breaks, meaning the POV was changing sentence to sentence).
I sped through the first half of this, though I then found the pacing seemed to slow dramatically and I was just pushing through to get to the final resolution. It’s also very insta-lovey and think time jumps may have helped with both of these. I appreciated that while Brody is a policeman who wants to help Hannah, its clear she has been let down multiple times in the past by people who should have been there for her, making it feel more realistic. I thought the portrayal of Hannah’s courage and determination, strengthening slowly and though it wavers at times, she is able to overcome so much to find happiness for herself and her daughter.

I read this arc as I was in the biggest book slump of the year. I found myself immediately entranced with the characters and the story! It’s one of the best small-town rom-com books I have read this year! This book had everything from comedy, drama, action, and of course, romance. Hannah is a badass main character, her strength and perseverance quickly made me fall in love with her. Brody is the lovable, supportive, gentle giant Hannah deserved in her life. Reading how their relationship blossomed had my heart skipping beats and my tummy with butterflies!

*SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT*
The only thing that keeps me from giving this book a 5-star rating was that I wish there was more of a time transition from when Hannah got rid of her abusive ex-husband and when Brody proposed. The ending seemed a bit rushed. In reality, an abusive relationship is an extremely difficult situation to get through and it seems that Hannah, although very well written throughout the book, towards the end of the novel got over the situation very quickly and was barely with Brody before marriage was introduced into their relationship.

I would like to extend a special thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, who provided me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book left me wanting more, the writing is amazing, especially the way the characters are written and how their character development was written. It was entertaining and I highly recommend!

Such a great book! An easy read but also had a great message on domestic violence and being a victim of domestic violence. Would definitely recommend it and will be reading more by Rachel Dove.

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to read this great book.

I dove into this book without having any idea what it was going to be about. I saw it on NetGalley and the cover looked adorable, so I requested it.

I expected a cute summer type rom-com, but what Rachel Dove gave us is a thousand times better.

Hannah is a single mom to a new baby, running away and hiding from her previous life. She is doing the hard work of completely starting over from scratch, not knowing a single soul in her new town, and having to do it with even more at stake.

Brody is a cop, with the best partner there is, Bullet, a trained K9 on the police force with him. He’s a lone wolf, and he only has a few people he really can trust and rely on.

Fate brings them together in such an abrupt way, but chance keeps them orbiting each-others lives on a regular basis.

The relationship between Hannah and Brody isn’t instantaneous and while I’m typically a fan of “hurry up a kiss!”, I really loved how the author played their relationship out. Brody didn’t rush her to open up, even though he knew that something was obviously going on in Hannah’s life to make her the way she was. He didn’t try to play the knight in shining armor, or try to take over as Ava’s dad. He just wanted them to be happy and safe, and I fell a little in love with him myself during this novel.

Hannah’s inner monologue felt so honest and real. As a survivor of domestic violence she is very hesitant to trust all the good around her, and questioning her own choices at every turn. That hit home for me, and the author did such a beautiful job of writing a book that touched on those very real and heavy emotions, without rushing through them to get to the happily ever after.

A big thanks to NetGalley, Team Harper Collins UK, and Rachel Dove for letting me read an ARC of this book for an honest review. This book is set to release on September 21, 2022!

A book about finding courage and a fresh start. Hannah and her baby,Ava, are starting fresh in a new town after fleeing their previous lives. But keeping a low profile is a little hard when resident bachelor, police officer Brody takes an interest in Hannah.
A heart warming book about new beginnings and community. You have to root for Hannah and Brody, their romance is one you instantly feel so protective over. Police dog Bullet and baby Ava make excellent side kicks to the main characters, who doesn’t love a dog and a baby. Brody is exactly the type of hero I live in modern rom coms, protective without crossing into creepy, he cares about Hannah and her independence, he takes care of her and Ava without taking her autonomy. Hannah and Brody! Hannah is coming from a difficult past, and Brody is just the man to help her get through it. Except Hannah doesn’t know that yet. I loved this romantic book!

What a super endearing book! I loved watching Hannah grow, evolve, and become strong. The subject matter can be triggering (domestic violence). However, I admire Rachel Dove for putting this topic out there. So many suffer in silence.

Hannah and Andrew had my heart. I adored how patient, kind, and understanding he was with her. I loved how this small village rallied around her and protected her and her daughter Ava. My only hesitancy to give this one more stats, is I felt the beginning was slow. The story really didn't pick up until the last third of the book. Overall, it was enjoyable!

Someone Like You is the sweet story of Hannah and how she survived and found her life in a new small town. The characters were so well written. The side characters I think could be my favorite. I would love to read more on them.

3.9⭐️⭐️⭐️

Firstly, I'd love to thank NetGalley for giving this ARC to me and I'm glad they did.
This is my first time reading something from Rachel Dove. will I read something by her again? yes, I will. The first half of the book was a little boring, I was going to drop it for a moment but I decided to give it another try. I was confused with the first 10 chapters as once the book started, something big happened but it wasn't detailed which is a good thing. the second half of the book is wow, it got so much more interesting. Andrew's and Hannah's love was adorable but tbh, too fast-paced. ava, I love you, you're hella adorable <3 the plot twist near the end was pretty shocking. it was a really small plot twist which I'm not sure if it's even counted as a plot twist but I was like "oh... wow." Will I recommend this book? hell yeah.

Also I’m giving this book 3.9 stars because 3.8 feels too less and 4.0 feels too much

character's review:
Andrew brody felt a little too perfect but I'm not the type to complain about a man being too perfect.
Hannah White was lovely, she deserved so much, having a man like Andrew being in her life made me so happy.
AVA I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. YOU'RE SO CUTE
AND THE FRIENDS? AMAZING I LOVE THEM
screw u victor

Prepare to fall in love with Hannah, Ava, Brody, and Bullett. I'm a sucker for any book that uses a library or bookstore as a setting, and this book did not disappoint. It just feels like it adds to the romanticism to me.! This was such a cute story that made me find myself smiling and giggling and, of course, rooting for the good girl and the good guy to win. Be prepared to finish this book in one sitting. It's an easy, light-hearted read that everyone is sure to love! I look forward to reading more from Rachel Dove.

Hannah must make a new life for herself and her daughter in order to get away from an abusive husband. As someone who has been in a tumultuous relationship, I know those feelings. This book didn't delve too far into the abuse but enough to let you know the backstory. It didn't feel triggering to me. One day, Hannah finds herself and her daughter in another perilous situation when along comes an off-duty police officer, Brody, and his canine companion, Bullett. Untrusting and constantly looking over her shoulder, Hannah starts to find herself getting more and more comfortable around the community that she is growing to love including, most importantly, Officer Brody. When she is forced to face the truth of her past, Hannah will find out just who truly has her back.

A beautiful and human story of love and growth. It's never easy to leave, but Hannah ran from her abusive husband for her daughter and herself and that's so clear in everything she does through the story. It can't be an overnight change and it isn't. The handsome cop she falls for definitely makes her moving forward better, but never easier. They both help each other and it is really a beautiful and fast read. Not to mention, the adorable police dog!

I didn’t know what I was getting myself into but wow this book was a roller coaster of emotions for me. It was almost like looking into a mirror. Hannah is the first book character I saw myself in. We both lived through the same trauma, and it was refreshing to see someone just like me in a book. For a long time, I avoided books with this topic, but for some reason, this book spoke to me. I’m so glad I had the honor of reading it. Not to mention the epilogue was an exact replica of what happened to me and my forever. Dog and all.

Some of the things I loved was the setting and the friendships between all the characters. It really provided such a small town feel with everyone knowing everyone. The friendships Hannah made really showed the care everyone had for her and her daughter. Not to mention Andrew is such a gentleman. I was constantly swooning over him.

I did have some issues with the dialogue. I found some points to be confusing and hard to tell who was speaking. Some points didn’t have “he said/she said” so I had to go back a few times to try to understand the conversation. Another issue I had was that we occasionally missed weeks at a time between scenes. I think it would have been nice to see them getting closer to make their relationship more believable. Even if it was just a look into their text conversations. It wasn’t until the end that I finally accepted that they made sense together.

If the content of DV isn’t triggering to you, I highly suggest you pick up this book. Romance aside, this was an empowering book about a woman taking control of her life and getting the freedom and independence she deserves.
