Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC. I tried twice in different situations but did not enjoy reading this book and could not get into the story or the characters. Even though I DNF, I’m required to give a rating so please read other reviews to get other opinions. I will not post this review or rating to other sites.

My first time reading this book from P.J. Tracy. I usually like Mystery & thrillers so this story is perfect for that. Kept me suspense and thrilling actions throughout the end. It was slow paced and well written. I'd recommend it for those who loves Mystery and suspense in Hollywood.

Still writing as PJ Tracy, the Maggie Nolan series is written entirely by Traci Lambrecht and is a worthy companion to the co-authored Monkeewrench series. This third book is mainly Maggie's story as Sam only makes a couple of cameos, but his absence doesn't diminish the book (and based on the ending, it's possible that he will have a bigger role in future installments). A good read that spans police procedural and Hollywood satire. If you like the Monkeewrench novels, you must pick up this!

Thanks to St Martin's Press for access to a digital ARC on NetGalley.

This was an okay thriller/mystery. It wasn't super suspenseful or original but it was good enough to keep me reading. Though it did take me a while to get into the story. I really didn't care for the characters.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books for the copy of The Devil You Know. This is the third book I have read in the Nolan series. I love the writing style, but Nolan is not really an interesting character to me so the book was difficult to get into. If you enjoy stories of Hollywood and stars you will probably enjoy this book because the story was well thought out. I’m sorry it just wasn’t for me.

This book, The Devil You Know, continues the series with Maggie Nolan, Detective in Los Angeles, and Sam, the PTSD former soldier, he's not in this book much, this time. But Maggie has a case, or two, or three, that all seem linked and affect Hollywood greatly. One of their adored actors died in an earthquake, but was he alive or dead before that happened? Murder or accident? Maggie has to find out, then more bodies appear. Very good book, love the characters and highly recommend this book.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from St. Martin’s Press and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

Perfectly balanced, well-paced and a strong plot.

Ah another series that I picked up midway. I really need to get better at reading the full description but it usually ends up okay, and that is the case here. This book is book 3 in the LAPD Homicide Detective Margaret Nolan series.

Detective Margaret Nolan gets called to the scene of a crime, that may or may not be a homicide. When she and her partner arrive they learn the deceased is Evan Hobbes, famous Disney star. As they dig deeper into the mystery of Hobbes death thing get murky and many questions arise. Then Hobbes friend, and Disney executive winds up dead as well. Firmly believing the Hobbes death is a homicide, Nolan sets off to solve the mystery that is his death.

Like I said I haven’t read any of the previous books in this series, but I found many characters in this novel unnecessary and they didn’t add anything to the story. I do think the author is setting them up for book 4 though, but it annoyed me overall as they added absolutely nothing to the plot of this book. This is partially why I have steered away from series as of late, too many story lines that aren’t part of the main story. With that said I did enjoy the authors style and descriptions of LA. The images created were in line of how I think of LA and conjured up images that were in line with my own memories – something that can be tricky. While I do not read series, I would wholeheartedly launch into reading a stand alone novel by this author. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars mainly despite the unnecessary storylines. Check this one out early next year, January 17, 2023! If you want a fast paced heart pumping thriller, this one wont disappoint.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was a well-paced and clearly-plotted police procedural, with all the law enforcement characters acting like grown-ups and co-operating with other agencies and neighbouring forces. I have read the earlier novels in this series and remember Melody and Sam from them vaguely, but the thread involving them and Sam's ancestor Peter had nothing to do with the main plot and could have been removed entirely without making any real difference to the story.

Very enjoyable.

I loved this book and this series. I love Maggie and Sam. This book is set among actors and actresses in Hollywood so who is acting and who is telling the truth. It’s up to Maggie to find out.

Book number three in the Margaret Nolan series (I still haven’t gotten around to reading number one but I really liked number two). This one has all the glitz, glamour, and ultimately scumminess of Hollywood. A beloved celebrity is found dead — accident, suicide, or murder unclear — days after a deepfake and nasty-nasty video of him sped out over social media. Nolan and partner Crawford have a more difficult time “reading” the persons of interest as they are all actors and good ones at that.

Very good writing (see a couple of quotes below) and I like the regular characters who have depth and develop with each book. I didn’t love the “bad guy” characters as much as last time — they seemed more shallow and two dimensional — but it’s Hollywood and I expect that comes with the territory!

A fun read, and I’ll be happy to check out book four when it comes!
