This is the first book I read in this series and I felt it had me a bit at a disadvantage. It made it harder to put the various relationships together, but I still enjoyed the book. You do have to pay attentions and eventually all the pieces of the puzzle will fall into place.
Was the first body an accident or murder? Was the actor guilty of what he was accused of? Is there a connection between the four bodies? Digging around for the truth in the privileged world of the wealthy isn’t easy.

I have been on a 5 star reading binge all week and I am NOT complaining.

Coming at you strong with a book that has exceeded all expectations..

The Devil You Know

The only thing I am angry about is that it took me so long to pick this one up. What the heck was I thinking?

The Devil You Know is the third book In the Detective Margaret Nolan series. This book can be read as a standalone but what fun is that? I highly recommend starting with Deep into the Dark (another 5 star banger!)

The Devil You Know will shatter your soul and won't hold back. When I say this book delivers, it's putting it lightly.

Be prepared to be put on the ride of your life...

Teaser:

Los Angeles has many faces: the real LA where regular people live and work, the degenerate underbelly of any big city, and the rarified world of wealth, power, and celebrity. LAPD Detective Margaret Nolan’s latest case plunges her into this insular realm of privilege and gives her a glimpse of the darkness behind the glitter.

The body of beloved actor Evan Hobbes is found in the rubble of a Malibu rockslide a day after a fake video ruins his career. It’s not clear to Nolan if it’s an accident, a suicide, or a murder, and things get murkier as the investigation expands to his luminary friends and colleagues. Meanwhile, Hobbes’s agent is dealing with damage control, his psychotic boss, and a woman he’s scorned. But when his powerful brother-in-law is murdered, he and Nolan both find themselves entangled in a scandalous deception of deadly proportion that shakes the very foundation of Hollywood’s untouchables.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This is the third book in the Detective Margaret Nolan series. I have read books by this author but not from this series. I found that I almost needed to have read the first two books to follow along with the characters more quickly.I enjoyed this book though and will most likely read the first two books in the series in the future. I did find that there were a lot of characters and having not read the other books I had a hard time following them at some points. I thought the story was interesting and the writing was well done.

I did finish it, which I don’t if I quite dislike a book, and was repaid by an interesting, if not quite satisfying, ending. The plot was confusing (perhaps better if I had read the first two of the series?) also a bit tedious (I speed-read through some of it). I had a hard time caring about the characters, which might also have been deliberate . . . not all people inspire connection. Descriptive prose was well-done, a glimpse into places I’ve not seen and likely never will, and that description is a saving grace.

great book and such great characters. I enjoyed the mystery and some romance. I also enjoyed the journey of the characters. I didn't know what to expect with this book but I enjoyed it .

Special thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I didn't know this book was a series so I wasn't too happy going in as I feel I missed the character personality in previous books.

It was difficult for me because of this but if you enjoy stories about Hollywood and celebrities, than you will like this book.

This was my first P.J. Tracy book, and it was awesome! I thought I had it all figured out...then I got to the Epilogue. This book kept me reading well past my bedtime. I will definitely be recommending it to my reader friends. Plus, I plan to read more Tracy books.

The Devil You Know is the third book in the Nolan detective series. This was my first book of the series and while the story was interesting there were so many characters and POVs I felt the main character was lost and felt more like a side character.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story gripped me in the first pages and didn’t let go. A very good police procedural and I love Margaret’s character.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

The third book in the series, but my first, easy to catch up with the characters. This had a well-balanced, interesting plot, and dimensional, nuanced characters.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books for the ARC!

This was pretty average for me. The story was fine and ultimately surprised me at the end, but it's not particularly memorable. I think you'll have a better idea of what is going on with several of the characters if you've read other books in the series which I have not.

This is the third book in the Detective Margaret Nolan series, which I didn’t realize until I wrote this review. It can be read as a standalone, though I now wonder what I could’ve known about Detective Nolan had I read the first two books.

The plot in The Devil You Know zings around quite a bit throughout the story. I had a hard time getting into it. Numerous characters also popped up, and I wasn’t in love with any of them. They all had severe flaws of one kind or another.

The author’s writing is filled with descriptive words. At times they seem like a bit much, and at others, the language works well. I wouldn’t expect to see such charm in this type of book. You will know what I’m talking about as soon as you read the first page.

I have to wonder if I would’ve enjoyed this more if I would’ve read the first two stories. I struggled to get into the story. There are many different parts to it and characters to keep track of.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

An actor is found dead the day after a fake character assassination video shows him in a terrible light, ruining his career.

Detective Margaret Nolan investigates his death, while we meet a number of people involved with the now dead actor. We see fragile actors, a ruthless , scheming agents, getting a sense of the rarified and deeply unhealthy lives the actor as well as everyone around him lead. The police chase a variety of leads, with the clues revolving around the identity of the person who commissioned the deepfake video and the relationships amongst the dead actor's closest individuals.

I think it would have been helpful reading previous entries in this series as I was a little lost during some of the interactions Nolan and what seemed to be series regulars.

The studio people and actors were all a little faceless to me, and pretty much all were horrible or annoying. I have to admit I didn’t care that much about the outcome, and I didn’t get a particularly good feel for Margaret’s character.

Thank you to Netgalley and to St. Martin's Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Yessss! This is the one! I have read the previous two and this one was my favorite. It was twisty, shocking, and the characters were developed even better. This book had such a perfectly disturbing premise and execution. I can't wait for the next book. This is a great series.

Huge thank you to NetGalley, the author, and St. Martin's Press for the gifted e-book ❤️

I received a free copy from NetGalley. Interesting story with lots of characters. I have read the others in this series and still felt a little more review of the main characters for the series would have helped the reader get reacquainted.

I first was introduced to the writing of P.J. Tracy with the Monkeewrench series. So when the Detective Margaret Nolan books started being released, I jumped right on the new series. This series has never disappointed me. Gritty, police procedurals with realistic characters. Very enjoyable! The Devil You Know is the 3rd book in the series.

The basics: Margaret is a detective in LA. Bad stuff happens every day. But it isn't every day the body of a famous actor is found only hours after a video was released that pretty much gutted his career. Was it an accident, suicide.....or murder? Another death makes it abundantly clear there is more going on here than a ruined career and a rockslide. Hollywood might glitter, but it can be dangerous.

I enjoyed this book. There were a couple scenes I thought were a bit overly melodramatic, but it's a fictional tale about Hollywood, famous actors, and the dangerous undercurrents of the entertainment industry. Of course, melodrama should be expected. Overall, another really good book in this series! I'm definitely in line to keep reading!

I started reading a digital ARC of this book before release....and then was offered a review copy of the audio book. So I started all over, and listened to the audio book. I'm all for suspenseful stories being read to me! Narrated by Abby Craden, the audio book is a bit over 7 hours long. Craden does a good job of voice acting. I'm picky about narrators, but enjoyed her performance. She reads at a nice pace and does a good job of voicing the different characters. Very entertaining!

**I voluntarily read a review copy of the ebook from St Martins Press and listened to the audio book from Dreamscape Media. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**

Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book. It is the first book in this series that I read and overall I enjoyed it. I will probably go back and read the first two in this series to see what all I am missing, but overall it was a good book.
