After living book 1 I really only liked this one. The MC in this book is Remy (book #1 side character) instead of Sena and therein lies the crux of my problem, it doesn't have nearly enough Sena and Iska. I also took issue with the MC's constant toting of her "geno-path" abilities. Like seriously, we get it, you're super special and much more so than a mere human. All in all...I think I liked Remy more when I wasn't inside her head.
Otherwise, the world-building is on point and we learn a lot more about the "corpo's" and whatnot. The ending wasn't a cliffhanger but it did lead you to believe that there could be more adventures in store for these characters.

This was a pretty good sequel. Although it stands well on its own, I still think you will enjoy it more if you read book 1 first! But this one follows a side character from book 1 - but you do see the main character from book 1 as a side character now.

I did like the story and found quite a few action packed moments. However, I didn't connect with this MC like I did in book 1. I liked the storyline, looking for this missing friend, but I didn't love the feel of the different character feelings when I didn't feel like I had a good handle on how the main character felt. It was good, I'm so glad I kept reading, and I'm hoping we do get a book 3 and keep going!

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame takes readers on a thrilling journey across worlds, blending action-packed adventure with heart-wrenching twists. It starts off slow but picks up quickly captivating me early on. Meg Long creates a captivating tale centered around a relentless quest to find a lost friend amidst a backdrop of impending doom and revolution. The dynamic characters, including the enigmatic Kiran Lore and the resilient Sena, leap off the page, drawing readers into the intricate web of alliances and betrayals. Long's vivid world-building immerses into the chaos of interstellar conflict, creating a rich journey of intrigue and suspense. As Remy navigates the treacherous landscape of loyalty and deception, readers are kept on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating each unexpected twist and turn. Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is a tale of friendship, redemption, and the courage to defy fate.

I love this follow up to cold the night. It’s a new planet, a new atmosphere, and just as much action and angst. Long crafts an adventure unlike any I’ve seen before.

I really enjoyed Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves and I was pleased to discover that Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame was just as fast paced and enjoyable. These are such unique science fiction stories, they don't feel like a lot of other books out there, which I loved. I'm dying to see what Meg Long will release next.

Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for granting me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Cold The Night, Fast the Wolves so was really excited to read this sequel. I enjoyed this one too, it kept my interest and the world building is done well. The author is really great at building the atmosphere, the reader really feels the environment the characters are in, whether its cold and dry or hot and humid.

This is SUCH a solid science-fiction novel! It is a companion to Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, and it follows Remy, a super soldier who helped Sena in the first book. As she continues her manhunt for her partner, who she considers responsible for her status as a fugitive, she and Sena crash-land on a jungle planet. An adventure ensues as they learn of a complex plot to take over the planet’s resources and exploit the people living there. This book is a ROMP. The action is epic, the main character is awesome, and there is a bare BARE hint of potential romance that made me feral. This book was my workout book; it was very easy to channel a bada** strut when reading from Remy’s perspective. I recommend this book and its predecessor to any YA sci-fi fans looking a classic-feeling adventure!

"Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame" is an exhilarating journey of redemption and rebellion. Remy Castell's relentless pursuit to find her lost friend takes readers on a thrilling adventure across worlds. The intriguing blend of personal vendettas, complex loyalties, and the looming chaos of a planet on the edge of destruction keeps you hooked until the very end. Meg Long masterfully crafts a tale where trust is scarce, making every twist and turn an exciting revelation.

This is a great second installment to the series and I loved revisiting this world. I liked following new characters in this book and loved the plot twists! I was hooked from the beginning and it made me was to re-read the first book.

This didn't interest me much. The writing was so so and the plot felt more middle grade than YA. The cover is eye catching but blends at the same time.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me via NetGalley. Wow what can I say about this title it was just an awesome read. This book was just something so wonderfully different I’ve never quite read anything like this. You should read to find out you won’t be disappointed. I’m definitely going to read more by this author.

Really good read. I think I’m just growing out of YA a little bit. However, it would be a great read for those you still enjoy this genre a little more

I was really intrigued by this book and I'm not sure why I kept ignoring it but I finally had a hold come up on the audio version to try to actually read it and I was just lost. I'm not a sci-fi person and I'm unsure if I was lost because it is technically book 2 in a series or if it was just a me issue. I gave this a shot but I can't tell you anything about it just nothing really stuck.

I can tell Meg’s writing has grown. Similar vibes to her debut, no truly bad or truly good thoughts about it. It was just okay.

I read the first book in this series and was really surprised by it, this second book however, just didn't hit the same. I wanted to enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me. I definitely think others will really like this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed the world building and how easy it was to picture the way the author was depicting the world. I hope to see more titles from this author soon!!

First of all, props to Long for the unexpected change in main character. We met Remy in Book 1 as a side character to Sena's main character and the POV is completely changed for this one. It opens up the world greatly and allows the story to go in entirely new directions. It's a cool idea for a series I didn't expect but loved.
Sena left her icy edge world to join Remy in her search for a missing friend and desire to destroy the corporations (known as corpos) who are wrecking the edge world planets for profit and ruining people's lives. It lands them on an equally unhospitable planet that's all humid jungle and terrible storms. The POV switches to Remy as the main character and we get to delve deeper into the awful things the corpos have done to people like Remy in order to get perfect soldiers and spies with which to shape the universe as they wish. There are a lot of players vying for control of the planet and secrets being kept by everyone. It's a dark and dangerous trek that leads to many unexpected places and lots of action.
This being the second book in the series wouldn't be much of an impediment to picking it up without having read the first volume before. There are details that enhance the reading experience, but the main character shifting makes it an okay book to jump right into without needing to know much background info. The basic world and character details are given as part of the beginning of the book, so you won't feel lost.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the exciting read!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I did not realize that this was a second book in a series until I went to write this review, but looking back it makes sense. Everything was explained enough to follow the story without reading the first, but it probably would have made more sense sooner if I had read them in order. Remy has been genetically engineered to be the perfect agent. Her agency believes her to be dead and now she’s trying to right past mistakes. The characters are complex and have various motives. Remy is trying to figure out who she is other than her programming. I think a lot of people can relate to the lost sense of self and trying to figure out who we are vs who we want to be.
