This is the followup to Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves. It has some of the same characters and is set in the same universe. Only this time we follow Remy Castell, who was introduced in the second half of wolves. Remy takes with her from Tundar Sena and the wolf Iska. Remy is looking for Kiran Lore, an ex-partner and Alora, a friend.
The edge worlds have three major groups; the corpos, the syndicates, and the scavvers. Everybody is in one of those three groups. The corpos either work for or run the major corporations. The syndicates are business people who are not part of the corporations, but would more be classified by our culture as gangs. The scavvers are those who have left "civilization" for a much more independent lifestyle away from the cities. The corpos have been trying to force the others to join corpo society, like people have in the inner worlds. On Tundar the climate has made that difficult. On Maraas, the corpos have been more successful. The remaining syndicate and scavver groups are joining together to fight back.
It appears that the corpos have found a way to monetize the giant planetary storm. To be completely successful, they need to remove all the other people on the planet. Remy, a gene enhanced person, was raised as an agent of chaos. She needs all her skills to defeat the corpos plan.
The gene enhancement program that Remy and Kiran grew up in made them corpo tools. They were hired out to whomever had the price to make whatever changes the paymasters wanted. On Maraas for the first time, they can make changes that they want to make. It is a fight to the finish.
I liked the world building. Maraas is a different sort of planet from Tundar. Both feel as if they could exist somewhere in the universe. I am very fond of science fiction. I think this is good science fiction.

I was super super excited for this book, bc I loved book 1.. this one, while still a good read didn’t work as well for me as much because of the protagonist shift. That being said, I’m absolutely going to read the next book!

Thank you so much Netgalley & Wednesday books for the eArc!

The world building in this book is superb. The plant is close to destruction and all Remy wants to do is find the friend she failed to save. Who can be trusted? How far will everyone go to save themselves, the ones they love and the planet? I’m looking forward to the next one.

Thank you Wednesdaybooks and netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

If you are a fan of strong female protagonists, danger and found-family -- Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is for you! A companion to Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, Swift focuses on the gene-hacked, former corporate spy, Remy. After (barely) surviving the race on Tundar, Remy, Sena and Iska head to the jungle planet of Maraas, where Remy is desperate to find her friend AND settle an old score.

Swift strikes a good balance of lifting up Remy as the protagonist and expanding the circle of new characters, while also ensuring that Sena and Iska aren't relegated to background characters. Long's world-building continues to create a vivid picture of not only the locales within the universe, but also the realities of people who live there. Remy's view of the world, her growing relationships and (of course) the non-stop action, will keep readers engaged and wanting more!

Happy Sunday y'all! I hope everyone's been having a great weekend! Mine was super busy, but good! Even in the business of the weekend though, I was able to do some reading and one of the books that I finished was Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame by Meg Long. I finally read Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves earlier this month, and I loved the world and the characters, so I was the most excited about reading this companion novel!
Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: A girl hellbent on finding the friend she lost. A planet on the brink of total destruction. Only one way to find answers amidst the chaos: team up with a traitor to stage a revolution, in Meg Long's Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame.
After a mission gone awry two years ago, Remy Castell has been desperately searching across worlds to find the friend she failed to save—the friend who changed her life by helping her overcome the brainwashing she was subjected to as a genetically engineered corporate agent.
Since then, she’s been chasing the only lead she has: fellow genopath Kiran Lore, the same secretive ex-squadmate who left her for dead when she compromised that mission. She nearly caught up to him on Tundar before joining the infamous sled race alongside outcast Sena and her wolf companion Iska. Now, all three of them have tracked Kiran back to Maraas, the jungle planet where Remy lost everything. But nothing on Maraas is how it was two years ago. Syndicates and scavvers alike are now trying to overthrow a megalomaniac corpo director, which Remy wants nothing to do with; fighting against corpos is as useless as trying to stay dry in the middle of the giant hellstorm that encircles the planet. But the storm—and the rebellion—are growing stronger by the minute.
When Remy finds Kiran, he doesn't run away like she expects. Instead, he offers her a deal: help with the revolution and he'll reunite her with her friend. But can she really trust the boy who betrayed her once before? With the entire planet on the edge of all-out war, Remy will have to decide just how far she's willing to go to save one girl before the impending storm drowns them all.
Oh man y'all, I think I might have liked this book more than I liked the first book! Remy is one of my favorite characters and I loved seeing her, Sena, and Iska going on a totally different adventure on a planet that's completely different from Tundar, but has so many similarities and ties to the both Remy and Sena. I really liked the new characters we met- and I'm so excited to see where things end up going from here with Nova and everyone we've met. I have so many thoughts and ideas about where the author could take things, so I can't wait to see what actually happens. Pacing wise, there were some parts that I thought were a little repetitive and a little slower, but overall, it didn't impact my reading enjoyment at all. Overall, I really enjoyed Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame and I think y'all should go and pick it up today!

I'd like to begin by thanking St. Martin's Press/Wednesday Books for my ARC of 'Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame'. As a disclaimer, I did not read the first book in the series, but I also feel that author Meg Long made the novel so accessible that it felt unnecessary. Flashbacks are written in as an integral part of the narrative, and I genuinely felt like I was not missing anything by jumping into this series in book two, which was delightful.

The characters were likable, the setting was unique and described well. While the characters had been there before, I had not- but I felt like it was familiar.

I enjoyed the characters, plot, and pacing. Nothing felt unnecessary or out of place, and I will be checking out book 1, and book 3 when it comes out in the future.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame by Meg Long (young adult fantasy). Long has a fantastic way of creating worlds through her descriptive writing style. In this novel, Remy heads back to Maraas after fighting the deadly snow on Tundar on the hunt for the one person, Kiran, who has information on a long lost friend.

I like how each novel has a found family feeling as new characters arrive. Remy fights with a programmed past that makes her react a certain way with Kiran and not make the greatest of decisions. I found her fierce nature from the first book a bit dimmed in this novel due to her interactions with him. She comes back strong and the ending has a bit of a possible cliffhanger/mystery that I'm seriously wondering what will come of it.

I enjoyed Long's plot on this one with rebellion, jungle creatures and the tie in to Remy's past. Though I was more hooked in book one, I was still highly engaged throughout the novel. I'd recommend these books to young adult readers who enjoy adventure and action. You won't be dissapointed!

Thank you Wednesday Books for the gifted digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. True rating 3.5/5.

I really enjoyed this book! The only thing is I wish I would have put together that it was the sequel to her other book! I knew the title was similar but goodreads didn’t specify so I assumed it was a stand alone. I would definitely recommend reading it after the first one. Other than that this book gave me such The Lunar Chronicle vibes that I absolutely loved it! I pretty much finished it in two sittings because it was so good!

So while Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is a companion novel, to get the best experience I'd definitely read the first beforehand. Not only will it unlock things about the side characters which are worth it, but it will also give you a taste of what Remy's been through recently. That being said, this sequel takes us in a different direction which I love! Is there a world Meg Long can't write??

I immediately loved that not only is Remy thrown into hot water from the first page basically, but she's also forced to confront her past. I think that often when we are trying so hard to run from the past, we end up on a treadmill. There comes a point when we have to face our past. To confront our mistakes, our regrets, and the chances to make peace with it. For ourselves. And for Remy, that is Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame.

This was good. I enjoyed the worldbuilding and writing style. The plot was cohesive and easy enough to follow while also holding my attention. Definitely want to read more by Long in the future.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is the follow up to author Meg Long’s Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves. But while both books are set in the same “world” they literally take place on different planets.

Sena, who was the star of Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves now takes on the role of a supporting character and Remy takes center stage. It’s helpful to have an already fleshed out character fill in the spaces while exploring a “new star,” and, boy, is Remy a star.

Remy is a force to be reckoned with. It is clear from the start of Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame that Long knows her protagonist well. Remy has a clear, compelling voice that calls to you as a reader from the start.

As with its predecessor, there are two main characters in Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame — Remy and the planet, in this case, Maraas. Long’s ability to make a setting almost a living, breathing creature is impressive, and it certainly transports you away from your comfy chair and into a ruthless jungle.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is a fast-paced read that could be read on its own, but it much better if read in succession with its predecessor.

Wow, what a ride. This book was the same yet totally different from the first “Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves.” It has all the fantastic worldbuilding and strong character arcs as the first but this time it’s set around genopath Remy and on a hot and stormy jungle planet. The story picks up just after the first as Remy, Sena and Iska crash land on the cruel and hostile edge world Maraas. They set out looking for Remy’s past and plow headfirst into a powderkeg of tensions and turmoil. I don’t want to stay too much because watching everything unfold through Remy’s eyes was fantastic. She’s sharp, sarcastic and loves blowing things up. Seeing her trying to decern who she was programmed to be, who she wants to be for others and who she actually is through the backdrop of killer monkey bats, flash bombs, jungle chases, icy villainesses, ghosts from the past and new friends was a thrilling ride.

Meg Long masterfully immerses you in this unforgiving jungle planet while playing with your heartstrings. Such a great read and I can not wait for the next one, because there has to be another one. We have to know what happens to the person about the thing (really I want to rant on about more but I can’t let anything slip it’s worth the wait). I do hope the next book splits the POV with Remy and Sena as their stories continue to evolve

Special thank you to #NetGalley, #MegLong and #Wednesday Books for sharing this digital copy, these are my honest thoughts on #SwiftTheStormFierceTheFlame.

That was a fun ride, and now I need the next book Meg!!

**MINOR SPOILERS FOR COLD THE NIGHT, FAST THE WOLVES**

As the follow-up to CTNFTW, Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame takes the story to a brand new world full of new enemies and new dangers. After Sena, Iska and Remy escaped Tundar, they fled to Maraas, a jungle covered world where Remy has a past to face along with helping Sena. This story is told from Remy's perspective and I really enjoyed her journey as she fights against Nova, TerraCo and her own demons. Her growth and learning to trust herself is a wonderful thread of the story. There are many terrific new characters, villains, fights, and revelations. And I am holding out hope that there is more Kiran to come in the next book, I loved their interactions!! A very solid addition to this series!!

Thanks to Wednesday Books and Netgalley for the ARC.

Would you fight to the end of the earth to keep a promise to your best friend?

Remy is determined to keep her promise to become a better person than the NOVA group made her to be. Throughout this story, we see Remy on her journey to find her best friend Alora after being separated two years ago. Will Remy join a resistance to help find her friend and to take down the person who separated them?
This is the fundamental premise of this book and I had such fun reading it. I didn't realize when I was reading this that it was a companion novel, but I think you can read this as a standalone and be fine. As a character-driven reader, I would say that the characters are not loveable but you do want to see what happens and they do keep you invested in the story. I felt like the plot of this story was much more the focus and I actually really enjoyed the way the plot of the story moved.
I am not someone who can do the whole movie in my head while reading but I do think that the description gave me enough information to be able to recall things that I have already seen to be able to help me see the setting and the action scenes.
I would say if you are looking for a fun sci-fi novel to pick up this year for anyone from the ages of 13+ this would be a great addition to their library.

I was provided an ARC of this book via Netgalley, all opinions are my own.

This picks up a few months after Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, with Remy as the main character. Sena and Iska are present throughout, but they are more side characters and their advendure on Tundar doesn't really play much of a part in this new adventure. I do recommend reading Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves first so you get and understanding of some of the references and backstory. I do feel you could read this as a standalone and not be terribly lost though. This is more like a companion novel in my opinion than a sequel.

In this installment, Remy shines as the main character as she tries to find a lost friend and her former partner who betrayed her. Sena and her wolf Iska are along for the ride, and the three of them find themselves on a rainy jungle like planet completely opposite of where they came from. Remy uses her genetic engineering to infiltrate and gather intel on the leadership that is now in place on Marass to help locate her ex-partner Kiran in order to reset mistakes of the past.

I really enjoyed this second installment! It was nice that it wasn't a traditional sequel and followed Remy instead of Sena, though Sena and Iska were still very present and involved in the storyline. It feels like we are going to get a third book, and I hope it follows the same format. I'm looking forward to seeing who the main character will be next. Remy is constantly fighting her genetic programming vs who she is as a person. She wants to do what is right and is constantly asking herself, "Am I like this because that is how I was made?" "Or am I my own person?" In the end she's a little of both. but she gets to choose what side she is on. I'd like to see a bit more character development from Remy when it comes to her emotions, but for most of the book I think she felt like she wasn't engineered to have them. She developed one friendship in her life and she felt if failed, and I hope we get to see her work on that more in the future.

This had great world building. Long does a great job describing the setting and the creative creatures she came up with. The pacing was a little slow for my taste but it does pick up in the second half as the revolution gets organized and starts to move forward. There is more action in the second half once we know all of the players and have the lay of the land.

I look forward to seeing what the author comes up with in the future!

Now that Remy and Sena have escaped from Tundar, they are on the way to find Remy's friend, who went missing more than two years ago in an upheaval on Maraas. In order to do that, she needs to track down her ex-partner Kiran and hopefully find a lead back to her missing friend. And a little revenge for his betrayal wouldn't be remiss either.

However, what they find is a much more convoluted war between the Syndicates and the Scavvers, leading to a greater mission to save a planet on the brink of destruction. Remy knows she has to do something to help, and the two girls find themselves working reluctantly with Kiran and a group set on destroying the Corpos settlements and taking back the planet.

This next installment has plenty of action, along with a lot of introspection about what makes a friendship and how we treat people we want to keep around. Remy does a lot of thinking about how feelings work and how her actions affect the world around her and others. It was a little difficult for me to keep track of all the players and how the different factions interacted, but that didn't affect the enjoyment of the book for me.

Lots of sci-fi weapons, genetically altered creatures, and a variety of other details to work well as a space opera and also as a sci-fi adventure.

I received a DRC from the publisher via Netgalley.

First I would like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for sending me this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I was really hoping to like this one, but I had to force myself as each chapter passed to keep going. The story was fine and intriguing, but the writing style and description was not to my liking. I found it too descriptive to where it drove away from the plot, and felt like it could have been more flushed out before publishing.

I honestly feel so bad I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped I would.

Swift the Storm, Fierce the Flame is the sequel to Meg Long’s debut novel Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves. The story picks up right where the plot of the first book in the series left off so the reader is immediately thrown into the action and tension as Remy, Sena, and Iska land on a new, hostile planet. Here they encounter a new set of conflicts and obstacles as Remy is forced to confront her past life and decisions. The book had a number of surprises and I was easily pulled into the story just as I was for the first book.

The biggest surprise as I started this sequel was that the point of view changes from Sena, the protagonist of the last book, to Remy. It makes sense, given the plot focuses on Remy that the story would need to be told from her point of view in order to get the flashbacks that are essential to understanding the current events. But, I was disappointed as I enjoyed having Sena as a narrator in the last novel and I didn’t find Remy quite as engaging. I did enjoy many of the new characters and found the overall dynamics between the characters to be just as well developed as the first book.

What I loved most about this book is exploring more of the universe that helps inform the world we saw in the first book of the series. We’ve heard about other ‘gangs’ and the corporation run economies while on Sena’s world but now that we now get to experience first hand. The author did a great job adding depth and interest to this new world while making it relevant to the already established rules from Cold the Night.

I was so excited to share Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves with you all last year and when I was offered the opportunity to review the sequel, I could not wait to dive in. And I’m happy to report that this book did not disappoint, it keeps the high tension, high energy vibe of the first book. I was a bit disoriented by the change in narrator but it makes sense given the necessary background information needed for the story. But overall, I loved the story and I hope to see more from this series and author in the future.
