Elle Cosimano has done it again with her 3rd installment of Finlay Donovan’s shenanigans! Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun picks up with Finlay and her PIC, Vero, signing up for Nick’s citizens’ police academy for the some help with her writing. As this book unfolds you learn that one of officers in the police department may just be a bit crooked but can they piece it together before it costs them their lives? A love interest for Vero definitely peaked my interest in this book. Now I am counting down the days for book 4. *Thank you NetGalley, Elle Cosimano, St. Martin’s Press, and Minotaur Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my thoughts.*

You know those books that you seem to read at just the right time? That was this most recent Finlay Donovan for me! I think I’m in the minority here, at least when looking at Goodreads ratings, but I think I liked this third installment of Finlay Donovan the most. There were the classic hijinks of Finlay and Vero, some more backstory for our characters, and of course some love intrigue to keep things interesting.

Also, thank you to @netgalley for the #gifted ebook version of this one, so that I could dive into reading before my library hold came in :)

This hilarious and not in any way realistic (mom and nanny taking on the Russian mob) story is bingeable, funny, and perfect for fans of cozy mysteries. I’m continually amazed that Cosimano continues to find ways for Finlay and Vero to get into trouble without going to jail haha, but that is a lot of the fun. For fans of the first two books, this third installment offers the same chaos, crime, and cops as the others. Enjoy!

I absolutely adored this book. The Finlay Donovan series is one of my all-time favourites, and I love returning to this world every time I pick up the next book.

3,5 Rounded Up. I think these books are very fun - however I find them to be a bit too silly at times. That being said, my mother loves them and I love being able to read them and talk to her about them so I will continue to read this series!

Love Finlay Donovan! This was a great read and addition to the series. Thank you so much for sending it to read and review!

Once again, the shenanigans that Finlay and Vero get into are ridiculous and unbelievable. Sometimes they are laugh-out-loud funny and other times, I found myself rolling my eyes. What missed for me in this one, is the story continuation from the previous books. Having read the previous books, it seemed to be a duplicate of the stories. However, if you hadn’t read the previous books I can see being very lost.

I am thinking, unless the next story is drastically different in plot and/or antagonist, that I am breaking up with Finlay and Vero.

'Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun: A Novel' by Elle Cosimano is the third in a series. You can read it out of order but I highly recommend you start with number one as they are all so so so good! Plus, you'll get better context of the characters. Just as the first two, Finaly is back and is still a bit of a mess (but in the best way possible). Love this series and characters.

I was so happy to be back in Finlay’s orbit, along with Vero and the other fun characters of the Finlay Donovan series. Like the previous books, this one has nonstop action, and these characters were in almost constant peril. Along with the impending danger is the trademark humor that always makes me laugh out loud when I’m around these characters.

The storyline is a bit over the top, and in my opinion, that is what makes this book and series so good. If you’re one that likes your books realistic and believable, this may not be for you. But, if you just want some fun and entertainment, you can’t get much better than the Finlay Donovan series.

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun contained all the fun I've come to expect from this series! Finlay is back at it, this time trying to track down a contract killer at a civilian police training camp... because she believes the killer is an officer. Her connections with the Russian mob are also tying her up, and her nanny Vero needs money to pay off a debt so they are trying to sell off parts from a destroyed luxury vehicle. It's a lot happening and all the events have the humor, flair, and mishaps that come with Finlay Donovan books.

Because there is so much happening, I found it hard to be invested in any one particular plotline. I also didn't really care about the police camp or having to meet a bunch of cop characters... I know it comes with the mystery/thriller territory, but the way Finlay and other characters talk about "good cops" and "bad cops" lacked the nuance that I want in books surrounding law enforcement these days. I think this book could work really well, though, for people who like isolated settings where you have a small pool of possible suspects to consider.

This book really shone for me during the final third, which was a thrilling and more fast-paced conclusion. It also touched on the plotlines I am the most invested in: the romance and the financials. I was grateful that the romantic plot finally went somewhere here and that our love triangle (square?) seems to be over. Every time Finlay's ex-husband is on page, he makes me so angry, and I'm still waiting for a moment where she really sticks it to him. Hopefully next book?! The other plot that I personally care about is Finlay and Vero getting over their financial troubles, and there are some developments there, though at this point I have to read the next book to see where that goes!

Overall I had a lot of fun with this book once the pace picked up. I am looking forward to future books and hoping that we can be introduced to some newer, fresher plot lines!

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun: A Novel (The Finlay Donovan Series, 3) is a fast-paced novel that jumps from the plot of book three to events that happened in books one and two. The book is best read as part of a series and not as a stand-one novel.

All I have to say is: She's Back!

After Finlay Donovan Knocks 'Em Dead I was worried I wouldn't get another 5 star obsession. Well I got it this time! The humour is back, the cop is back, and most importantly Vero is back with all her humour, banter, and friendship.

This time around is set mainly in a Police Academy. This was a fun twist. It meant Finlay was essentially stuck in this remote location trying to solve a mystery, while completely surround by cops.

Speaking of cops... Nick's back! Thank God, because I was not into the lawyer kid lol. We get the banter and the snark, and a will-they-won't-they vibe. The rest of the cops were amazing too. Only a couple gave me the creeps lol but I wasn't meant to trust them lol

Angela Dawe does an amazing job on the audiobook once again! Each character has a distinct voice and personality- never will I ever get Vero confused with another character lol

I'm 100% obsessed with this series and need to know what's next for Finlay and Vero!

''Author and single mom Finlay Donovan has been in messes before―after all, she's a pro at removing bloodstains for various unexpected reasons―but none quite like this. When Finlay and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero accidentally destroyed a luxury car that they had "borrowed" in the process of saving the life of Finlay's ex-husband, the Russian mob did her a favor and bought the car for her. And now Finlay owes them.

Mob boss Feliks is still running the show from behind bars, and he has a task for Finlay: find and identify a contract killer before the cops do. The problem is, the killer might be an officer themself.

Luckily, hot cop Nick has just been tasked with starting up a citizen's police academy, and combined pressure from Finlay's looming book deadline and Feliks is enough to convince Finlay and Vero to get involved. Through firearm training and forensic classes (and some hands-on research with a tempting detective), Finlay and Vero use their time in police academy to sleuth out the real contract killer to free themselves from the mob's clutches―all the while dodging spies, confronting Vero's past, and juggling the daily trials of parenthood.''

Full of their typical OTT antics, great characters old and new, a little bite of “dessert” as Vero likes to call it (use your imagination 😉), and a hilarious opening scene involving a toddler and an occupied bathroom stall, this was the fun I’ve come to expect from this series. One new thing? I read and listened to it this time and Angela Dawes was perfection. Her voicing of Vero particularly makes me laugh!

Honestly, if you haven’t tried this series yet and you enjoy books with two comical leading ladies, I highly recommend you try it. This is one series you’d be better off reading in order, though, as the story does build on itself in each book.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Went on a vacation binge and read all 3 Finlays. Book one was fun, book 2 a little repetitive but book 3 had the same charm as the first. I'll be on the lookout for more of Fin's shenanigans!

I love the Finley Donovan series! I
thought this book was a great addition and it really helped the story evolve. I do think that some of the events that took place in the book were a little extreme, but it was a fun book!

This just didn’t life up to the hype for me. I know I’m probably in the minority here tho. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review

I was hesitant to read this book because I know I was desperately going to want to read book 4 immediately, although it isn't due to be published until 2024.... and I was correct. I VERY rarely read books that are part of a series, but I'm so glad that I made an exception for Finn and Vero. I've literally become addicted to their adventures. I adore the combination of humor, romance, suspense and murder- even when it's accidental. I don't know what I am going to do with myself while I wait on future adventures, but I do know that I'll be waiting for them anxiously!

3.5 stars rounded up!

While this was my least favorite of the 3 books so far, I still very much enjoyed it! It is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical, but it was a ride I had fun on! I am curious to see what directions she goes in the future.
