This has to be one of the least traditional meet cutes I have ever read but it worked! Kat and Mick had great chemistry from the beginning and it was such fun seeing them let their guards down and their relationship grow. I think Mick was so sweet and his family really made the story for me! The author did a really fantastic job with representation in all of her side characters and I would love to read their stories in the future. My main issue with the story was Kat at times. I found it hard to relate to her and there were times in the story I truly was frustrated/annoyed with how she was talking to Mick. I would have loved to see a little more growth or character development from her.

All that being said, I adored the authors writing style and would be first in line to read another of her books. Kat may not have been my cup of tea but I can see other sides of her that would make people love her. If you’re looking for a fun read that will make you laugh look no further!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press/ St. Martin’s Griffin and Melonie Johnson for providing me with a digital ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am obsessed with the characters in this book. Too Wrong to Be Right is the perfect book to get you out of any slump that you are in. It’s quirky, fun, interesting at times with Mick’s family owning a funeral home. Kat had just gotten out of a bad breakup and separated from her boyfriend with a new hedgehog for a pet. I think this is the first time I’ve ever read about someone owning a hedgehog and I’m all for it. Those little guys are so CUTE!

Kat swears off the men she usually goes for and with a slight turn of events of almost falling face first into a corpse, she becomes friends with Mick. The friendship between the two at first was so sweet and caring. You can tell Mick wants nothing more than to date her but is respectful of her wishes to just be friends and help her find Mr. Right. With her dating terrible guys being a constant in her life, she is very focused on finding someone who ticks all of those boxes and is completely different from her past relationships. I felt like the relationship between the two grew at a good pace. It felt natural and was super sweet. If you’re looking for a good laugh, I highly recommend this book. Melonie Johnson does a fantastic job with this novel and I can’t wait for it to come out in February 2023.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martins’s Press for the early arc in exchange for an honest opinion!

This book had the most unconventional meet cute but I think it was one of my favorites. Unlike other authors Malorie Really gives a story to each of the side characters from Ronnie to Seamus they were all written beautifully. This is the most representation I have seen for a non-binary character in a romance book. I loved the connection to they way that Mick’s grandparents and parents met to the way that Mick and Kat meet. I want to reread already and It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours. Also JoJo might be my favorite book pet.

This was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The characters had amazing chemistry and it was fun to watch them slowly let their guard down. Great humor, likable characters. I definitely recommend!

Kat Kowalski manages the local florist shop. Kat has goals .. to own her own florist business and to finally stop chasing the wrong type of guy. You see, her last boyfriend not only just dumped her he left her with his pet hedgehog JoJo, and he is not coming back for either. What she did not expect to happen was meeting Mick O’Sullivan, a crude cockatoo and almost colliding with a corpse at the O’Sullivan Funeral Home. Mick is not only attractive but charming and rather flirty .. a man Kat needs to keep at a distant, more of a platonic relationship. But here lies the question .. Can they remain just friends? Or will Kat finally realize Mick is the right man she has been looking for all along.

I really wanted to love this book, but it was just okay – it just fell flat. I had a hard time connecting with Kat and at times I found her not only annoying but unreasonable when it came to the Mick .. she treated him like a doormat and truthfully, I did not feel they had much chemistry. She had a great relationship with her grandmother and with her co-workers. Although the cooing over the hedgehog was a little bit much!

To Wrong to Be Right get a solid three stars. While this is my first Melonie Johnson novel I definitely will pick up another novel by her – I liked her writing style but have hopes her characters are more likable and have a better chemistry.

This sounded like the perfect story, strangers to instant friends to maybe something more. I was excited to read how the tension would build and push that friendship boundary.

Unfortunately I lost interest in both the characters and the story line halfway through the story. I wasn’t all that interested in where it was going, why they HAD to be JUST friends when the attraction was supposedly so “obvious”. I also wasn’t a fan of the sort of attempt at a brothers love triangle towards the second half of the story, it felt a bit inauthentic and not fully developed.

I did like the writing and felt it was easy to follow along despite my other opinions on the storylines.

I wish the push for this found family dynamic had developed a bit stronger, Kat was building strong connections with both Mick and his siblings and it just wasn’t totally convincing, and neither was that third act breakup.

However, this story was still filled with trope worthy conversations and had a lot of potential to be even more adorable.

good book and really enjoyed the characters and their journey. I liked the romance.. I enjoyed how the characters grew in the book and what happened.

This one started out so so strong, but for me the ending left so much to be desired. I feel like most of the book was great - I loved the dialogue, and the humor was top-notch. But I'm not a fan of the miscommunication trope in romance, and that was largely what this was (in addition to the slow burn, friends-to-lovers). It also felt like miscommunication for the sake of breaking up; the conflict really just didn't pull at any heartstrings for me and felt contrived. Overall, I'd read Melanie Johnson's work again in the future, because the humor and the romance were really cute, but this specific book just fell flat for me.

Kat has trouble with her instincts for relationships. She always picks the wrong men. Then her luck changes, except she has trouble excepting what’s right in front of her. But fate steps in and real romance blooms.

I requested this book for the cute cover and not knowing much about it. The cute cover did it's justice and this was one of my favourite books of the month! It was such a cute and funny love story. I finished this within a few hours. I kept catching myself smiling and laughing at everything I was reading and I just simply enjoyed it a lot

Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin's Press!

⭐️⭐️½

What I liked:
I love Melonie Johnson's sense of humor. Kat's group of friends were hilarious and fun. I liked that Kat and Mick joked around with each other from the beginning and even during the sex scenes. It was all very amusing. And Seamus! I loved that bird.

What I didn't like:
There were three main things that I didn't enjoy about this book. I thought there was too much dialogue that rambled. I also felt like there was too many separate scenes with Mick and Kat with their friends and family and not enough scenes with them together, building chemistry and connection. When they finally said "I love you", I didn't feel like it was grounded in a strong connection. The conflict between them towards the end made me scratch my head. Kat became irrationally upset at a small comment that Mick made and then it blew up into this thing that could have been avoided if they sat down and talked.

This one fell just short of three stars for me but I think some will really enjoy it.

Okay I really enjoyed reading this! 3.5 out of 5 stars!!

Lets get into it. Kat is a cherry, happy, florist with a dream of having her own flower shop, and a stable boyfriend since her besties are in committed relationships and she's feeling left behind. The only problem? Her loser boyfriend just dumped her to go live in Canada to be part of a reality TV show and left her his cute hedgehog to raise. On the same day her boyfriend leaves her she runs into Mick, and the place they meet? A funeral home because Mick's family runs the funeral parlor.

Its a match made in friendship heaven with Mick putting his love-at-first-sight feelings away to play her wingman to find her Mr. Right, and along the way they find that he was the right guy all along.

This was the first book I read by this author, and I enjoyed every minute of it. This book was silly, sweet, and interesting. This book gave me something I didn't know I needed, a twist on the pretty cut and dry friends to lovers story.

I adored this book! I loved the story line, and everything about it.

I loved how this story taught us that we don’t need to find someone who check all of our boxes but someone is meant for us. That sometimes the person you are meant to be with is right in front of you.

Kat and Mick love story was the best! They started as friends then slowly realized well Kat realized that she was had feelings for Mick! He wasn’t the perfect guy but man was her her perfect guy!

All in all I highly recommend this cute rom com and it felt like it was a perfect holiday book considering it talks about every single holiday in it!

It made me laugh, it made me cringe a bit. Honestly, it was just a lovely cute read that I would pick up again. Loved the chemistry between the main characters which is all we can ask for in a romance novel. Would recommend to friends!

Too Wrong To Be Right was my first book by Melonie Johnson. This rom com had a different setting than most books with the “meet cute” and setting being set in a funeral home. I enjoyed reading Kat and Mick’s story though I was frustrated a couple times with them.. The hedgehog was a nice touch. I enjoyed the family relationships on both sides of the story and it really added to the book. I am looking forward to other books by Melonie. I hope the sister gets her own story too.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the ARC.

This friends to lovers romance fell a little flat to me. I had a hard time getting into the characters and the storyline. I did see potential in Kat struggling to find her Mr. Right when he was ‘in front of her the whole time.’ I just didn’t feel connected to the story or characters as I have in other stories.
