Too Wrong to Be Right was a fun, slow burn, friends to lovers romantic comedy. The characters of Kat and Mick are cute and fun and only slightly annoying at times with their miscommunication. The book really benefits from such stellar side characters including Mick's entire family including bird and Kat's coworkers and unlikely pet friend; they kept the story entertaining and at times hilarious. I recommend the read.

I was drawn to this book because of the cover but I didn't like the female main character. Also by the halfway point of the book I wasn't even rooting for the main couple.

Such a stunning book! The plot kept me hooked the whole time, and the characters were so loveable. 5/5 stars!

Melonie is one of the authors I found on NetGalley years ago and I just fell in love with her writing. There's something special about storytellers who write characters and tales that you could so easily imagine as movies. This was perfection!

I think Kat was a toxic nightmare and Mick was a simp who should have walked away from her. This book was a whole lot of no for me, sadly. The character interactions were cute enough to keep me reading, but I cringed so much at this relationship that I was supposed to root for. She’s on a date with his brother at his family’s holiday party and he just… is okay with that?? There’s being a forgiving person, and then there’s Mick. He just lets her do whatever she wants even though he could totally call her out on toxic behavior because he’s supposed to be a licensed counselor and should probably see the signs of how toxic she is. But no, she’s really hot and he just lets her walk all over him. This book is gross.

I really liked this book! The characters had quirks that made them lovable and relatable. I loved the slow burn element. The end felt very satisfying. I didn't love how oblivious Kat was to Mick's feelings towards her. The breakup at the beginning wasn't as exciting as I was hoping it would be. Besides that, I really enjoyed the story and would recommend it to any one looking for a light, fun read.

3.5 stars rounded down

Kat Kowalski has sworn off dating assholes after being unceremoniously dumped by her latest boyfriend, Tad. And not only that but she’s suddenly the proud owner of a hedgehog named JoJo. As if that’s not enough, while on a routine delivery for her flower shop, she nearly stumbles into the coffin of a recently deceased gentleman. Thank his Mick O’Sullivan is there to help her out! Mick is a great guy, but he seems too similar to the jerks Kat usually dates. However, there is something between them and they agree to strike up a friendship while she looks for her perfect Mr. Right.

This book started off pretty cute but as it went on my interest definitely waned. The writing style is good and it was a pretty standard friends to lovers, will they/won’t they plot. However I found myself growing frustrated with the characters.

Kat is a very wishy washy character to me. She’s so determined to date someone completely different that she’s willing to overlook the natural growing chemistry she has with Mick in favour of his BROTHER. I’m sorry, but I just can’t get behind her cultivating this friendship with Mick, getting quite hot and heavy at one point, and then jumping for Joe instead. It also seemed like she was wayyy too concerned about keeping up with her friends and not for the right reasons. Mick, while being a good guy is too much of a good guy. He respects Kay’s wishes to a fault and to the detriment of his own relationship with her. I do wish he’d have tried harder to get with her, but at one point Kat literally tells him that she gunning for Joe, so I understand why he took the backseat the way he did.

The third act breakup to me was just annoying. I figured it was coming and while I see fault on both sides, I do think Kat was harsher. By this point in the book I was starting to skim because I was just not feeling this book. It could just be the mood that I’m in, but the beginning half of the book was definitely much stronger than the latter half.

Also, Kat not knowing anything about Lord of the Rings or the Legend of Zelda just seemed weird to me. It’s a weird thing to get hung up on, but they both just stuck out as being really off.

If you like books with miscommunication, will they/won’t they vibes, a heroine who’s obsessed with romcoms and a main love interest who is a gentleman to a fault them this book is for you.

Thanks very much to Netgalley and St Martins Griffin for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I just couldn't get into it. I didn't care about any of the characters, they were so flat and there were so many that I stopped caring who was who. Just not the book for me.

I haven't ready anything by Melonie Johnson before, but this book got my attention from the very beginning, and while that may have had to do with the crocheted penis, the story kept me sucked in and was a quick easy read. The book was entertaining with rom-com jokes and witty humor sprinkled in. Both Mick and Kat had depth to them and I really liked the dual POV writing to understand where the both stood, even when you wanted to shout at them or shake them both a little at times.

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Griffin, and Melonie Johnson for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

~Contains Spoilers, Skip Second Paragraph to Avoid~

Kat was just dumped, and given her two besties are getting engaged and moving in with their partners it makes Kat feel even worse than usual. She decides she's done messing around and wants to find a serious fellow to settle down with. She meets Mick, but thinks he's her usual asshole type because she finds him hot and he winks at her. Still, the two form a friendship and try not to let their undeniable chemistry interfere with it. Kat actually thinks Mick's brother, Joe, seems more the serious type she should be with, and asks Mick, who's pining for her like crazy, to help set her up.

This book was fun and the banter is really great. Plus, I'm Polish and it was really fun to see Polish language and cuisine be featured in a book. Still, there were a TON of plot holes like... Kat constantly needing someone to watch JoJo, a nocturnal hedgehog who can be left alone in a cage for a couple hours; Mick ramming to Kat when she's over the corpse even after she says she's the florist; Kat thinking Mick is an asshole type simply because he winks at her; Mick needing to be Kat's plus-one but not finding out about the wedding till after it's already happened... like who didn't invite him? It's supposed to be a test of his love but he's just meant to know when the wedding is happening despite having no communication with Kat for over a month?

I will say this book probably had the best first kiss scene I've ever read, but besides that nothing stood out. I recommend the read if you've been eyeing it, but no need to go out of your way.

Lovely Kat Kowalski has been dumped by her longtime boyfriend who has left her for a job as the MC of a reality show. He leaves her with his pet hedgehog and she decides that is the only significant other she wants in her life right now. Her two best friends are moving in with their boyfriends and/or getting married, so she makes herself a list of what she wants in a partner and vows that she is finished with men unless she finds Mr. Perfect. Kat is delivering flowers from the shop she works for to a local funeral home and meets a salty parrot as well as one of the part owners, Mick O'Sullivan. They become friends and share their dreams and feelings. Is this enough for a relationship? He doesn't tick all the boxes for Kat, but maybe his brother does.

Too Wrong to Be Right is the second book in this series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. This is a cute story and I loved how the relationship between Kat and Mick grew. It was a slow burn and yes, there are a couple of steamy scenes eventually, but there is a lot of growth along the way. Kat has a dream of owning her own florist shop and working with Mick to promote his ideas for the funeral home, she begins to realize that she has to go for what she wants. Seeing her become a stronger and more positive person was wonderful. Mick also has to undergo some growth and changes and show his brother that he is responsible and wants to be part of the business. This added some substance to a story that was not just a romance. The characters were great, not only Kat and Mick, but the secondary characters as well. They supported one another and were a lot of fun. There is humour, especially when the pets came into play. I really liked Mick's family, even his brother who spent a lot of time putting Mick down. If you enjoy a contemporary romance with great characters, a strangers to friends to lovers trope, and a happily ever after, you should pick up Too Wrong to be Right.

Friends to Lovers rom com. Really good steam. This is a pretty long novel so worth the money.

I loved the premise of this story but about halfway through I was getting mad with Kat because she was so focused on her idea of the perfect man she couldn't see the perfect person for her was right in front of her.

After a series of bad relationships Kat makes a list of her ideal characteristics and traits in a man. She happens to write down the exact opposite man than who she's been dating.

Kat meets Mick and you can tell there's something between them but because Mick is too much like her exes she decides to pursue his brother instead.

My heart broke for Mick and I'm happy they got together in the end but there was too much back and forth on Kat's side. The premise of the story was good but it could have been executed better and not made me start to disklike the heroine.

This was a first time read for me by this author and it was a very entertaining and enjoyable story. Kat is tired of repeating the same mistakes and ending up with guys who all turn out to be Mr. Wrong. She's ready for a more serious relationship like her friends have found. So she makes herself a list of all the qualities her Mr. Right should have and decides not to date until she finds someone that ticks all the boxes. When she meets Mick, her attraction to him is immediate, but bells go off in her mind signaling that he is too much like her past boyfriends, and decides to firmly place him in the friend zone. She thinks his brother Joe more fits her idea of Mr. Right. But as she spends more time with Mick and gets to know him better, she begins to re-examine her list and begins to realize that Mr. Wrong may not be so wrong after all.
The story was very cute and held my interest all the way through. The characters were endearing and I enjoyed getting to know them. The story was fun and had a lot of heart, and I had a good time reading it. I would love to read more books by this author in the future.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Oh Kat. I just adored you. Your life was a hot mess and yet, you are a bundle of awesome.

Mick in his family funeral business glory was just something else.

Together, it was dynamite!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced readers copy. I can't wait to add this one to my shelf.

One of the things I loved the most about Too Wrong to Be Right was the fact that it had me practically in tears from laughing from the very first chapter. I love it when an author shares my brand of humor, and I can tell from this one book that Melonie Johnson definitely does! I also loved that there is a lot of focus on a foul-mouthed bird plus an adorable hedgehog, and even though I am a crazy cat lady at heart, I love all animals and these two were a ray of sunshine throughout the story. Kat's friends were smart and funny, and there were a lot of secondary characters that I loved with all my heart. I could understand what Kat was getting at with her list and wanting to date a different type of man from what her usual was, but girl get it together. If you read this, you will see what I mean...

I really enjoyed the audiobook although I didn't always love Juliana Solo's narration for Kat. It wasn't actually her per se, but there were times I think the editing was a little off. I did love her voice though and thought she as well as Cody Gordon for Mick were excellent choices. The book did end up dragging out a bit too long for my liking and it felt like it could have been about 50 pages shorter, but I loved the humor and the lightness of the story so much that it wasn't really a huge factor in my enjoyment. I would love to see this made into a movie, and the meet cute at a funeral home, especially with the situation it happens in, would be HILARIOUS to see played out onscreen. Overall, if you are looking for a lighter, funny, and sometimes nostalgic read (hello 90s rom-com references!), I would gladly recommend Too Wrong to Be Right.

Kat has sworn off dating until she finds a man who meets all of the qualities she’s looking for in Mr. Right. So when she meets Mick at his family’s funeral home and sparks fly immediately, she knows he cannot be good for her and is determined to be just friends.

This has to be one of the funniest meet cutes ever! This book is full of humor and had me laughing out loud throughout. The side characters and animals) added so much fun to this story. I especially loved Seamus the sassy and often inappropriate cockatoo. I thought Mick was the sweetest cinnamon roll of a love interest and thought it was so sweet how patient and respectful he was with Kat. I struggled connecting to Kat at times and was really frustrated with her actions, and especially how she treated Mick throughout the book.

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advance copy.
