Oh Enola is so much fun! I love her character, the voice that Springer has cultivated is such a good, exciting, interesting character to follow. This is actually my first Enola book and I’m excited to go and read all of them in order now. This story is really interesting, and I love the friendship and familial themes— you don’t often see those seperate from romance in YA fiction. I adore this version of Sherlock as well, and I like that he is growing to respect Enola in her own right. Love this so much.

And the narrator was so good! All of the voices for Sherlock, for lady Vienna, for the street kids that Sherlock employs… she did a fantastic job. It made it a delightful read. Well done!

Enola Holmes has the family gene of deduction and uses it like her famous brother Sherlock. When her closest friend, Cecily, is in distress Enola answers the call.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advance copy. This copy was received in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts outlined are my own.

This book is part of a series but I believe it can stand alone. I found that it was easy to follow without having read the other books in the series. Enola is just as clever as her famous brother and I appreciate that she is an independent, young woman. The story moves at a fast pace and I stayed engaged throughout the story. The narrator did a great job and kept the listeners attention.

I’m so grateful that I got to read this text. I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to making some videos for my TIkTok and other social media channels to recommend it to my friends and followers. It was an excellent read! 5/5 stars. I’m going to write a longer and more detailed review on my Goodreads and TikTok and I will link back once I’ve posted.

If you take Enola’s name and spell it backward, that spells Alone. Enola often felt alone, since her mom had passed by now, she discovers, she is anything but alone. Her mother has raised her to rely on her wit with spunk and shows it in great glory. She is no longer alone as she has two brothers: Mycroft and Sherlock…Holmes that is. Well, let’s be honest, Sherlock is the more interesting one of the two brothers and Enola quite agrees.

This time, we find Enola trying desperately to help her friend Lady Cecily from her horrible father, Sir Eustace Alastair. He locks both Lady Cecily and her mother up in their quarters and takes away their shoes and clothes so that they are held prisoners of their own home. Enola rescues her friend but Sherlock Holmes was hired to bring Lady Cecily back to her mama. Unfortunately, that is where the caddish father resides.

Not all is afoot and something is indeed off. Could there be two sides to Lady Cecily? Thankfully, Enola proves herself to be a perditorian and even tries her best to right the wrong.

What I adore about this book is how Enola relies on her wits and chameleon ways. Enola is exceptionally resourceful, observant, and survives in a man’s world. She can alter her appearance and with the help of some friends, pull off many ruses to her benefit. When she thinks nobody cares enough about her and that her mother’s choice of her name spelled backward is correct, she realizes without a shadow of a doubt, that she is cared about. The warmth and respect Sherlock have for Enola boosts her confidence and she can see things in a different light than he. Sherlock is more rigid with his way of seeing things but Enola can see things from a woman’s perspective which makes her point of view even more of use to Sherlock. They worked on this case together.

It’s a light mystery read but filled with a fun adventure. Perfect for tweens.

4 fabulously fun stars
“Decorum being the last thing on my mind, I proceeded with my agenda.”

It was delightful to spend a bit of time with Enola and her famous brother, Sherlock again. Springer writes a clean, intriguing mystery set in Victorian England. I loved the sense of adventure and the feisty female characters. Enola is charming and forthright, describing clothing, settings and characters in amusingly quaint ways.

I do hope it’s made into a movie, like another in the series. I also hope Nancy Springer will continue to delight us with more Enola Holmes adventures.

The voice narrator was professional, with a lovely British accent. Tamaryn Payne’s voicing of male characters was the best I’ve ever heard from a female voice. Everything was clear and easy to understand and made the time pass quickly.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another fun book in the Enola Holmes series!
My first encounter with Enola Holmes was the movie on Netflix. Then I read the 7th book. Then I read the 2 graphic novels which included books 1-3 and 4-6 so I think I am all caught up for the most part! I am glad I had read the graphic novels to fill me in on what I missed even though I didn't have any problems reading the 7th book with just the movie knowledge. It was great to really have known Lady Cecily before reading this one since she is such a large part of it.
I always love Enola's spirit in these books. She is so independent and really values her independence. She is finally accepted by her brothers (mostly Sherlock) and even works with him in this one. She has gained Lady Cecily as a friend and really finally knows what it feels like to have a good friend.
We find out in this book after Enola find Lady Cecily has basically become a prisoner in her home by her father. We also learn that Lady Cecily has 2 personalities depending on which hand she is using as her dominant hand. In a prior book we learn she is left handed which is taboo at this time, so she has her left handed rebellious side and the right handed meek and obedient side.
What we find out near the ending is extremely satisfying and a good way to wrap up the book!

Thank you to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the advanced electronic audio review copy of this delightful book! This is an entertaining, fast-paced mystery with great world-building and character development. I love Enola’s wit and resourcefulness, which help her solve yet another case. What else can one expect from Sherlock Holmes’s younger sister? I really enjoyed the audiobook version, which has a wonderful narrator. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I didn't remember requesting this particular book but it turned out to be a great surprise! When adding it to my currently reading (listening) on Goodreads, I realized there was a movie on Netflix based on this series (didn't realize it was a series). I actually watched the movie last night and found it delightful and it had my attention the whole time. So this morning I started the audio right away. I found I liked Sherlock better in the movie but other than that I enjoyed the book.
As mentioned this is part of a series but Springer touches on enough of the back story it can be read as a standalone. As they are directed toward Middle Grade, i plan on listening or reading the others with my 8 & 10 year old.

It was also fascinating to learn how left-handed people used to be treated. I had to shoot off to Google to check that.

I just love Enola Holmes and this narrator is perfect for her. This book is back with Enola’s spunkiness and resourcefulness and wit. She is exactly how a reader would imagine the sister of infamous Sherlock Holmes. While this is one of a series, the reader does not have to read any of the pre ious books to follow along. I didn’t feel like I’d missed anything, even though Cecily is an inflating character as Enola’s friend.

I love how devoted to her friend Enola is and how independent she is as well. Also, Sherlock making an appearance was just what any fan would want. Excited to continue in the series.

This was a really fun story. I only knew about Enola Holmes because of the Netflix movie, and finding out that there is a whole series of books with the character is exciting.

This was a super quick read, that told the tale of Enola helping our her friend, Lady Cecily, gain some autonomy from her overly controlling father. It's obliviously more complicated than that but with such a short story it's hard to get into it without providing spoilers.

I look forward to diving more into this story and catching up on all her hijinks.

Big thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with a chance to get in on this book early. I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is the first book in the Enola Holmes series I’ve read, but did not feel like I was missing backstory or unable to follow. The audio narration was wonderful.

Enola Holmes’s friend has been locked away by her father and Enola is determined to rescue her and prevent him from being able to repeat his shenanigans. Enola is an impressively resourceful and self-sufficient young heroine, able to outwit even her clever brother, Sherlock. This story is fast-paced and I listened to it in one sitting. It isn’t nearly as dark as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories.

I really enjoyed returning to Enola Holmes and her adventures in this latest book. I assume the populartiy of the Netflix movie helped prompt a new novel, but no matter how it came about I was happy to dive back into Enola's world. While I liked seeing Lady Cecily again I confess that the dual personality story-line is not my favorite. However, that was more than made up for by the Sherlock and Enola sub-plot. I love their evolving relationship and the ways they mesh and clash as siblings. Reading book 8 has me itching to re-read the series from the beginning.

I enjoyed all aspects of this delightfully entertaining story. Enola is witty and brilliant and finding her own place in her new family. I love her independence but desire to collaborate with Sherlock when she gets stumped. She effectively puzzles through all the clues to get to the bottom of the mystery. In this case, her friend Lady Cecily, escapes and leads Enola on quite the chase as her dual personalities compel her forward. Seeing the story through Enola’s lens compared to Sherlock’s was very interesting and insightful. I love the pace, descriptions, and details provided. All in all, a truly entertaining mystery.

I received a complimentary audiobook copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own.

I was pleased to see that Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade picks up right where it left off, with the the same strong voice, character development, and amusing stories that we've enjoyed in earlier books of the series.

Enola begins the story by going to visit her friend (and previous character) Lady Cecily Alastair. Surprisingly, her visit is declined, and Enola quickly comes to realize that Cecily's father is not allowing visitors. While Enola later tries to covertly check on Cecily's well-being, Cecily takes the opportunity to escape her father's grip. Enola is left trying to safeguard and conceal her, not the least from Sherlock Holmes, who has been hired by Cecily's mother to locate her. Cecily, plagued by a dual personality brought on in part by her family's determination to rid her of her left-handed tendencies, escapes on her own -- leaving both Enola and Sherlock independently scrambling to find her.

While this one is a little lighter on the mystery side of things, with no real "whodunit" feel or actual caper to solve, there's plenty of tension to keep young readers engaged. I felt engrossed right from the start and Tamaryn Payne does such a lovely job of the audio narration that you're swept along into Nancy Springer's story even when there aren't peak moments of action. Having an uncle who was forced in the 1960s to convert from his innate left handed tendency to right handed, I related to the underlying theme, as absurd as it might seem to a modern mind.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for providing me with an advance copy for review -- my thirteen year old son is a huge Enola Holmes fan and has consumed the entire series so far. Once I listened to it myself, I let him have a go with it. Being able to tell him I had advance access to the next book that he could listen to before it was available to the general public gave me a few moments of cool mom cred -- no small feat with a thirteen year old,. His review: "Just as good as the others! When does the next one come out?"

This is my first time with one of the Enola Holmes books. I didn't even realize it was a series until after the Netflix movie came out. I fell in love with Enola's character in the film and I tend to draw closer to books. Thanks to #Netgally, #Macmillan Audio, and Nancy Springer I was able to listen to #Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade (book 8) narrated by Tamaryn Payne.
The book kept my attention the entire time. You see all the fun things you would expect from Sherlock’s sister: Inquisitive Mind, Strong Female Lead Character, Witty, Observant, Strong Willed, and Loyal.
Enola is trying to solve a mystery set in the late 1800’s. The narrator’s accent and dictions were perfect and really captivated the time period perfectly. I also thought Nancy Springer did a great job of depicting some of the struggle’s women had to deal with and at the same time was able to weave this into a solid plot. I think it made the character’s stronger and more captivating. The author was also able to throw in clever twists to draw you into the story. The story hits on many themes including friendship, family, abuse, what men expect out of women during this time, and more.
Even though I have not read any of the previous books I didn’t get lost and I felt the book could be read as a standalone. It was a great fast paced read!

OMG!! I adore this whole series and I was really excited to see another adventure underfoot! Enola has put her finding lost things on the back burner while she is attending university and she still has a quirky relationship with her older brother(Who is an adamant Sherlock Holmes Fan I Adore). However, when Enola devices to visit Cicely she is not let into the home. Enola is adamant that she knows something fishy is going on, so as usual, she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery! Later after dark when she returns to Cicely's home she is attempting to climb into the window when Cicely climbs down the rope and they set off together to her home.
Then Sherlock comes questioning Cicely and when Enola thinks he is going to find out everything Cicely takes off and Enola is left to find her and aid her away from her terrible father! Check out this book to find all the twists and turns of this book! It was absolutely amazing and I loved it completely! I definitely recommend it! I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook by Macmillan Audio and Netgalley and for that, I am indebted to them! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this adventure and definitely would recommend the audiobook as well the narrator was an amazing choice for this book!

Narration: I was lucky enough to receive an ALC of this book via #Netgalley. The narrator has a pleasantly accented voice that might be described as posh. She does a great job of conveying the irony and wit in this book.

The story: I enjoyed this historical mystery set in Victorian England starring Sherlock’s little sister, Enola Holmes.

Enola is such an interesting character with smarts and sleuthing skills to rival her famous brothers. She is independent, precocious, and very crafty. I like that Sherlock makes an appearance in the book; I like seeing him as a big brother.

In this book, Enola, with a little help from Sherlock, helps her friend escape from her overbearing and brutish father. The friend is Lady Cecily, who has featured in other books in this series. The Elegant Escapade was an interesting mystery; I thought I had it all figured out, but had most of it wrong!

I recommend this engaging and fun historical mystery to all mystery lovers.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

This was a lovely little read. I didn't realize that this was number 8 in the series, just saw the title and had to read it! I was not disappointed, and will be going back at some point to read the rest. The narrator was perfect for this as well!

This was my first in this series (which I only realized was a series after I'd downloaded it, whoops on my account) so it's not impossible that a few context clues were left behind. That said, it was still quite an enjoyable audiobook and I didn't feel like I was missing many important details that had perhaps been established in previous books. A very short audiobook, but quite engaging, the narrator did a great job with the voice acting between different roles and made it quite enjoyable to listen to. While marked YA, I think this could appeal to older J readers as well as younger YA readers in equal measure.

This was my first time reading a book in the Enola Holmes series. I did very much enjoy the Netflix movie starring the one-and-only Millie Bobby Brown, and found it easy to follow this novel after this introduction. Unfortunately, I can only say that I found this installment in the series to be so-so. There is no real mystery to solve (there is a mystery, but in my opinion not enough to form a novel around), making it hard to be but so engaged in the story. There were a couple of points of interest, but again a bit dull overall. For fans of Sherlock Holmes and/or Enola Holmes this book is still worth a quick read, but manage your expectations accordingly.
