Enola Holmes, Sherlock’s younger sister, is a feisty woman, and much ahead of her time. This is a fast-paced and fun story of her efforts to free a young nobleman who has been imprisoned by her father. Enola is just as clever as her brother, and there is great fun is listening to her stump him on multiple occasions in this delightful tale. The audiobook is wonderfully narrated and was very entertaining. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook in advance of publication.

Enola Holmes is Sherlock Holmes’ little sister, but she has a presence all her own. I read the first books in the series before it became a Netflix movie. Enola is impetuous and intelligent. She gets into a lot of dicey situations.
In the Elegant Escapade, Enola helps Lady Cecily, a young lady who always seems to be getting into trouble. The story makes statements about women’s rights or lack thereof in the time period.
This story gives us interactions with Sherlock. It is interesting to have him both caring and maintaining an aloof posture toward Enola.
I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook.
I think young adults would enjoy this book and the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

I've watched the Enola Holmes movie (loved it!) but this was my first time reading an Enola Holmes mystery. Such a fun character! I really enjoy how independent she is, and this story highlights her passion for equality for women. Her interactions with her brother Sherlock are especially fun.

Tamaryn Payne is an excellent narrator, making Elegent Escapade a delight to listen to.

I look forward to picking up more Enola Holmes adventures!

I was super stoked to get a copy of this audiobook because I absolutely loved reading the first book. Sherlock Holmes stories have always been interesting to me and as a former student in crime and law, any fictional books with these types of premises hold a special place in my heart. Mysteries leave clues and keys throughout the entire novel that as a reader I strived to try to figure out. This novel was no exception. I flew threw this book until I got to the end and was left wanting more. The twist that this is Sherlock's sister actually makes the novel so much better than I anticipated. Cannot wait to read more by Nancy!

I've been reading Nancy Springer for as long as I can remember. Rowan Hood and Enola Holmes were an important part of my childhood. As an adult, reading Enola Holmes still brings me the same kind of joy I experienced growing up.

Throughout the series, I have loved seeing Enola's own take on detective work, particularly her empathy and emotions that her brother is often seen as lacking. She is smart but still has obvious flaws. Her commentary is witty and shows the peaks and valleys of solving any puzzle, especially the kind of mysteries she takes on. Even in my 30s, Enola Holmes is the kind of person I aspire to be.

I have also loved the slowly developing relationship between Sherlock and Enola. Their increasing respect for each other and antagonist/assisting relationship continues well in this book. The end made me cheer because of the way it showed the full development of their relationship. They continue to exasperate and impress each other, and it is clear that they are now in a very different place than they were at their first meeting. Enola deeply admires Sherlock, and it is nice to see him continue growing in admiration of his little sister.

As always, the surrounding characters are full of life and fun to read about. From the villains to the heroes to the servants and everything in between, we have characters that feel like you would meet in real life if you were wandering the streets of London at the time. The recurring characters continue to shine with their own personalities, and its nice to see some of those stories continue.

I also very much enjoy the depictions of the changing world, from the differences in fashion to the women Enola encounters with new, radical ideas. It is done in a natural way like, well, of course, Enola Holmes and the woman who gave birth to Sherlock and Mycroft would be into some of them, and of course, Enola would herself be interested when she got older! It does not feel forced. In some ways, it seems to echo her own development and growing up.

Overall, fans of Enola Holmes will find all the things they love about this series and maybe even find new things they adore. Enola continues to shine as brightly as ever, and my smile shines too whenever I get to read new stories about her adventures.

Audiobook review: I loved the narrator. She felt like she fit the book and the story perfectly, and I never got bored or distracted even though I listened to the audiobook in one sitting. The voice acting didn't feel forced, and some of the inflections and other touches made me laugh out loud..The music at the beginning of the end set a nice touch and the mood for the story.

I reviewed the audiobook version of this book. Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy.

During our vacation earlier this year we listened to the audiobooks for the first seven (?) Enola Holmes books to the absolute delight of our children (ages 11 and 13) and us (parents). I could not have been more excited to find out that I had been approved for this audiobook in time for our most recent road trip.

We all listened, rapt, to this marvelous story. It made us laugh many times (we are particularly fond of a dry humor between Enola and Sherlock) and made the hours of driving pass quickly. The narration is wonderful! I cannot recommend this book, narrator, and entire series more highly.

⭐️4/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for providing the ARC for my honest review.
Now, I was a big fan of the movie on Netflix and I knew there were other books in the series but that fact completely slipped my mind with my excitement to request this ARC. After getting approved, it hit me, this is book #8. I figured I would be be fine if it is styled like the classic Sherlock Holmes stories. And I was correct, as long as you have the base knowledge of the characters and premise thanks to the movie.
I loved this audiobook. Yes, I loved the movie and yes I love anything even remotely like Sherlock Holmes, but this is perfect. Plus it felt like a love letter to anyone whose a fan of the late Victorian era.
While multiple personality disorder is a little controversial today, I did like it’s use in this story.
Overall, it was fun while keeping to the essence of a classic Sherlock Holmes story. And the audiobook narrator was exactly how I would imagine someone like Enola Holmes to sound like. I would definitely recommend this to others, even if you haven’t read the other stories first. However, I do plan on rectifying that problem.

As a huge fan for Sherlock Holmes this was a wonderful book. I don’t know why it took me so long to get to this series. Starting with the latest book makes it wonderful because now I have several more of these books to enjoy. Highly recommended for any age.

Enola Holmes and the Elegant Escapade (Enola Holmes #8)
by Nancy Springer
A jaunt into the world of Arthur Conan Doyle with a twist. Enola the younger sister of Holmes brothers has found her own way. She has set herself up in school, and with a reputation of solving problems was able to create a sideline business of sorts. This is her second adventure in trying to help her friend with a difficult time and an abusive father. Enola has a way of not expecting things to happen, her attempt to check on her friend becomes a jail break, and she is faced with Sherlock as her opposition as she tries to save her friend. A misadventure old friend. A great lighthearted story with strong female roll models for young girls.

The audible version shows the music of the time in the intro and exit, allowing the voices that Tamaryn Payne add to the book allowing the reader to be lost in the world of Enola.
