This was an interesting historical novel and it had key elements that I enjoyed such as the use of the time period to entrance the reader, the intriguing characters and how they interacted in the time-period. The concept was really intriguing and creative. I also really liked the political aspects and Jonas' interactions with the elite.

My only issue with this one was that it was so long and I felt that it didn't necessarily need to be this long... and I also wanted to connect to the narrative a bit more but for some reason I didn't fully connect with the style - but that may be more of a personal preference!

On the whole if you're a fan of historical fiction filled with intrigue and complex plot lines I'd suggest giving it a go.

Thanks to NetGalley and RL Broederdorf for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

This was a wonderfully done historical novel, it had what I enjoyed from the historical genre. I enjoyed how well 1797 was used in the story, I really enjoyed how the characters worked well in this time-period. I was invested in what was going on in the story and loved the writing done by RL Broederdorf.

"He also went to his canister and took one of his hard bread and spread some honey onto it. It was another emotional day for Jonas. How he wished to become exhausted from manual labor instead of his emotions."
