The start of a new series, this book tells the story of Jory and Finn, two immensely likable characters. Finn is tasked with escorting Finn to a nunnery. However, it soon becomes abundantly clear to him that she has too much spunk to take her vows and that she will challenge him every step of their journey.

I read a lot of Scottish romances, and this one stands out because of the meticulous historical details, the uniqueness of the heroine (physical disability + dark skin), and the evolved hero. Jory and Finn's connection was palpable and not merely based on lust. It was so refreshing to read swoon-worthy romantic lines that were not connected to physical relations though I wouldn't mind steamier bedroom scenes in the author's future books. Because the author was able to make me invested in Jory and Finn's relationship, an epilogue would have been great. Hopefully, they'll appear later in the series. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!
