Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.

I thought this book was great. I really enjoyed it.

This book was not quite what I expected. The description references that Webster uses research from Christianity, Judaism, and Islam to inform his guidance on practicing connection with our guardian angels. I understood and expected the references to these religions, however I felt like the representation for Christianity far outweighed the others, with Judaism earning a second-place slot. References to Islam felt minimal. Additionally, the history of angelic beliefs in Greek & Roman pagan religions were represented, but there was little about the other historical pagan religions (i.e., Norse & Celtic). From a Llewelyn book, I expected a bit more breadth, even if the focus was primarily on the Judeo-Christian interpretation of angels.

I did appreciate that there was a large amount of time spent on multiple techniques a person could use, if they were so inclined. One way of working with a divine being may work for one person and not another, so the options were great. Though, I feel like anyone with a back ground in Wicca or other Neopagan religions would be familiar with most of these techniques.

This book would be most useful to someone looking to explore alternate methods and techniques of spirituality while keeping a frame of reference to a Judeo-Christian background. For example, a newbie Christian Witch might like this book.

This book, on Guardian Angels, was somewhat interesting. A lot of it seemed completely speculative. There were good tips on developing spirituality and a prayer life, even if you don’t believe everything the author had to say about angels. Some parts of the book were repetitive, while other parts of the book veered off into chakras, auras, and other new age topics.

Learning About "Guardian Angels"

In his book, Guardian Angels, Richard Webster acknowledge the fact that many people have tried to define angels, but no one has been able to do so conclusively, however, he states that angels appear to be celestial beings of pure light who operate on a different vibrational frequency than us, consequently, they are usually invisible to human eyes. He also states that in exceptional situations, such as when someone needs protection, help, or comfort, angels can lower their vibrations to a human level, when they do this, we can sense their presence, and sometimes even see them, still no one knows what angels look like, as they can appear in any shape or form they wish.

The author discusses guardian angels on many occasions, often quoting biblical scripture to substantiate their existence and significance in the Bible, from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation.

Richard Webster discusses the role of one's guardian angel as being that mainly to protect, guide, and look after our mind, body, and soul in all of our lifetimes. In the Christian tradition, he states that the main responsibility of a guardian angel is to encourage the soul to lead a good life, which will ensure it will ultimately get admitted into heaven. He states that guardian angels are like mothers who are always watching their charges in the hope of seeing signs of improvement, who also provide us with spiritual and physical protection when the soul is in danger.

The author states that in scripture "2 Timothy 2: 26" not only are our guardian angel here to protect us from violence or mental attacks in the physical world, they also provide protection from the “snare of the devil”, they encourage good thoughts and deeds.

The author provides a great angelic invocation of protection summoning the four great archangels: Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, and Uriel.

This book is a true wealth of information dealing with basically any aspect of learning about angels, especially learn about your particular guardian angel. The author discusses a method by which you can learn your guardian angel name, and he states that we can send healing to others by asking our guardian angel to send love and healing to anyone we care to name.

Many thanks to the author for such a great book with so much information about "Guardian Angels".

Truly highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn about angels, especially your guardian angel.

Great read! I loved learning about and how to call on your Guardian Angel. I enjoyed reading about St. John Bosco. I knew Padre Pio's story, but it was still refreshing to see him mentioned. This book provides wonderful exercises and meditation to guide you. A must read!

I was really excited to read this as I've been going through my own spiritual journey the last two years, and I'm already familiar with working with angels and guides. I felt like in the first two sections it was heavily focused on God and while the author attempts to bring in other religions, there was a heavy Christianity ring to it that immediately turned me off.

I appreciated the bits about working with your own guardian angel, but I didn't take much from this book.

The thing I like most about this book is the perspective that it gives across many religions and beliefs, not just Christianity. While I was raised with a picture of a Guardian Angel guiding two children across a bridge, and I loved that picture, my own beliefs are a bit different than what I was raised with. But the concept of a Guardian Angel? That’s never changed!

The author explains different belief systems and how what they call these guardians. It’s an amazing thing to see how many different beliefs still have so much in common. But more importantly the author guides you on how to recognize your guardian and how to interact with them. The additional content on chakras is also well covered and provides for a balanced discussion and overview.

I recommend this book to anyone reading this, as it is a fabulous guide to the topic and how to connect and work with your own Guardian Angel, who whatever you may call him or her.

“Most problems guardian angels have is the person they’re looking after is completely unaware of their existence.”

Thank you so much to Llewellyn Publications and NetGalley for access to this ARC!

Richard Webster goes through a brief and thorough history of angels - I appreciated that this went much broader than just Christianity and the biblical depictions of angels. We learn the history of guardian angels, personal spirits, daimons, and other terms throughout the Hinduism, Islam and Judaism, as well as learning how cultures all over the globe relate to these beings - from the African tribes to the ancient Mayans and their spirit animals.

Richard shifts the focus to creating a personal connection to your own guardian angel/spirit guide/entity, and truly does his best to include various practices and rituals that could resonate with different people. He gives lots of examples and variety to choose how you’d like to strengthen your relationship with your guardian. He reminds us that guardian angels cannot eliminate our karmic factors, but they do help us out. It’s important to be proactive and to take the steps to let your guardian angel know that you want to develop a closer connection to them.

I have personally in the recent months become familiar with my spirit guide - she has shared her name with me and she has visited some of my intuitive friends. She sends me messages that I am able to understand more clearly, and I can honestly say this book made me feel like I had a lot more options and ways of connecting with my guardian. I feel excited to do pendulum work, journaling and becoming more intentional with my practice and truly having FAITH in the divine powers that constantly protect me! This book was spiritually rejuvenating in a way - there were parts that resonated with me deeply and parts that I know will be more attractive to other readers.

I appreciate the various anecdotes and stories he shares throughout the piece, though I do wish he discussed deities that weren’t “white” for lack of a better term… but I do understand that he may feel called to work with those specific angels and deities which is why he would make those suggestions and share how to work with them in rituals.

I had never heard of the “guardian angel number” by taking your birth month and birth date to create a 3 digit number. However, now that I am aware and put my intention into that number - I will be mindful to see if that number pops up more in my day to day. I also plan to try to make connections through my dreams - hoping to remember them!

I appreciate the inclusion of working on the chakra system - I would have been very disappointed if that wasn’t included in this book. I was also impressed with the discussion of limiting beliefs and addressing the mindsets that can hold us back from doing this kind of work.

If you want to develop a better relationship with the spirits who watch over you - I definitely think this book could help you find some tools and give you confidence in showing up.
