This book started out incredibly strong. The first few pages had me fully hooked and ready to give it an automatic 5 stars. By around the 50% mark, the story got very repetitive and the female main character, Lana, was just so insufferable and an unbearable asshole that it was hard to push through it.

By the end, it had turned a little back around. I think the book really could’ve benefitted from being dual POV and making Lana not be in such hardcore denial about every single facet of her life.

Absolutely adorable and fast-moving. Cute characters, and some cute tension in the plot. These lovers-to-enemies plots often feel silly — but this felt solid.

The growth! The tension! The journalism!

This second chance, rivals to lovers story was full of competition, intense challenges and lovely self introspection.

Falon Ballard is now an auto-buy author for me!

Definitely pick up this LA-set romantic romp!!

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

Lana Parker has been in one relationship after another pretty much since she was fourteen. So when her boyfriend of four years dumps her on the night she thought he was going to propose, Lana and everyone around her sees it as an opportunity to find herself. Her very single self. Should be easy, right? Enter Seth Carson, Lana’s first love. He’s back in her life and at her workplace, and it’s hard to deny that their past is strictly in their past. As the competition between them heats up, so do their feelings. But both Lana and Seth will have to decide what is more important – their hearts or their careers. It took me all of three pages to know I was going to love Lana. Ballard infuses her with personality right from the very beginning, and that tenacity and emotion carries her through the entire book. As a character, I found Lana to be very easy to understand; she’s a serial dater who hates being single, she feels stuck in her current role at work, and she makes so many nerdy, Marvel references. It’s hard not to like her. But it’s hard not to like her ex, Seth, too. He enters the picture as Enemy #1, the one who broke Lana’s heart all those years ago. But as the competition between them rolls out, it’s hard to ignore the little hints that Seth isn’t the big, bad heartbreaker that Lana pictures. As the plot progresses, it’s hard not to root for them to find love with each other again. I love a good second-chance romance, and this one came across as being especially drama-free compared to other romances I’ve read. Ballard did an excellent job at building the tension and history between Seth and Lana without resorting to big blow ups or public scenes. I loved the quiet competition between them; in order to win, they had to be better than the other but also better than their past selves.

With seemingly opposite end goals – Lana had to learn to not immediately jump headfirst into a new relationship, and Seth had to learn how to put the one night stands behind him and commit – most of their challenges were cause for internal struggle more than anything else. Of course, once we get through the misunderstandings and miscommunication, both main characters do find their happily ever after. I loved the antics both characters got up to, but the action would’ve been nothing without such well done, relatable characters. Seth, with his self-sacrificing love, was the perfect person for Lana, and I loved them both individually and as a unit. Whether fighting or making up, Lana and Seth made Just My Type a fun and entertaining second-chance romance.

I’m not always huge on second chance romances, but I enjoyed this one! There’s plenty of banter and sparks to keep things fun while reading without being overkill. The task lists were delightful and I loved how Lana was able to grow personally and professionally throughout the book.

I loved this book. It was fun and funny and cute and heartbreaking and real and organized. I made friends with the characters and I miss them

A sweet and occasionally spicy second chance romance, great LA setting and "vibes", and good characters. While I've been reading them out of order, this was Falon Ballard's sophomore novel and there's no slump here.

not as good as her debut! I loved Lease on Love, but I found this one lacking. the dynamic between Lana and Seth was not as strong nor as entertaining as I would like. the dialogue and Marvel references felt like too much, and the references cringed me out (and that’s coming from a huge Marvel fan)!

this is also one of the books that illustrate why enemies to lovers doesn’t wholly work in contemporary romances.

just not really for me and not really my taste nowadays!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book to read free of charge. I really enjoyed this story and thought it was similar to a rom-com movie. I feel like this could be a book I could read again.

This book was such a cute romantic comedy book! I enjoyed it and felt like I was on the ride with the characters! I would definitely recommend this book!

I'm typically in to second-chance romance, for some reason I struggled with this one. It was hard to connect to the main characters and the conflict was almost hard to believe. I do with we knew more about Lana and Seth's relationship prior to the current time. Like, why is she still hung up on him after all these years? I think we needed to be able to root for their relationship more by having more backstory. Still, it was a good book and I would recommend it.

I really love this author! Lease on Love was one of my favorite books (which I ended up loving just a bit more than this). This felt like Devil Wears Prada meets The Bold Type meets How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days all in one crossover event. It was a great combination of humor while having a true plot. I loved the dynamic between all the friends who really felt core to the story which is a little different than usual. Tons of tropes in this one - enemies to lovers, second chance romance, and workplace rivalry.

I love a second chance romance, but this one wasn’t for me. It was too slow, and I didn’t get enough of a hook from the characters.

Thank you G.P Putnam's Sons for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own!

I have no idea why it took me so long to pick this one up! I really enjoyed it. The characters were fun and multiple faceted. They felt like real characters which is always a big one for me to stay interested in a story. I loved that they start out as ex lovers with history and develop the relationship that they have at the end of the story. I found the character development of Lana super important. She final understands work boundaries with her boss that often times people forget.

This story is about Lana and Seth two dueling ex's vying for a coveted column spot in the magazine that Lana has been working at for a while. Seth is coming over from two magazines merging. The challenge Lana's boss gives is to make Lana stay single and Seth find "the one" he wants to settle down with. They are assigned to make lists of things they must do and then write about. Whoever gets the most votes for their growth in the end wins the column spot. As they start completing all the challenges or to do's will previous feelings surface or is this all strictly work fun.

Content: swearing, s*x scenes, boss manipulation

Overall, I enjoyed this! I felt that the story was a bit "forgettable" in some aspects, but I would recommend this to a romance reader. I enjoyed the relationship between Lana and Seth, even if second-chance romance isn't always my favorite trope.

This was my first read by Falon Ballard and it was such a fun one! I’ll definitely be picking up other book soon.

This book had a “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” vibe to it where Lana works as a journalist and is given the task to stay single, since she’s typically a serial monogamist. But that’s not the kicker. Because her ex – the real “one that got away” and rejected her again at their reunion, shows up at her job and is given the opposite task: he has to prepare himself to settle down, since he typically serial dates – at least according to the tabloids.

Each person is given a set of tasks, and none of this feels realistic for a work environment, but Ballard broaches that topic well considering that sometimes people pleasers don’t recognize when other people blur the lines of a relationship, which is definitely true.

I loved the easiness Seth and Lana had together – even when they were bickering. I loved the past they shared and the growth each character seems to go through. This was a quick, easy, and all-around fun read – and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a cute second-chance romance.

Tropes:
- Second chance romance
- Friends to lovers to enemies to friends to lovers 😂
- Workplace romance
- It’s always been you vibes

I love an enemies to friends to lovers storyline but felt that this one could've been better. The writing felt more like fanfiction and it took me out of reading it. I love reading about writers but was frustrated at the lack of character growth.

Short synopsis: When Lana is dumped by her boyfriend on the night she thinks she’s getting engaged, and her ex Seth shows up as a new employee at her office, a friendly competition of self discovery is announced.

My thoughts: This was such a strong second book by Falon! I liked the personal growth Lana went through as she learned to love herself.

There were definitely some laugh out loud moments. I’m always a fan of friend groups, and Lana’s was so supportive and endearing! Everyone needs friends willing to drop everything and be there when you need them!

That ending was so sweet in the epilogue, you’ll just have to read it to find out!

- Childhood Friends to high school sweethearts, to enemies, to ???
- Self acceptance
- Workplace competition
- Banter and laugh out loud moments
- Sunflowers
