I approached Just My Type with high hopes. The premise—a second-chance romance between two journalists competing for a coveted columnist position—seemed promising. However, the execution left me underwhelmed.

The central relationship between Lana and Seth lacked the depth and chemistry I had hoped for. Their interactions felt forced, and the absence of flashbacks to their past relationship made it challenging to invest in their reunion.

Lana’s character, in particular, came across as immature/inconsistent to me. Her frequent pop culture references were getting old quickly, the the over-usage of phrases like “thank Loki” felt off.

The workplace competition subplot, which had the potential to add some tension and drive to the story, did not work. Instead, it felt unrealistic and underdeveloped to me. The challenges assigned to the characters seemed arbitrary, and the dynamics within the newsroom lacked any kind of authenticity.

While the novel touched on themes of personal growth and self-discovery, these arcs for the characters felt rushed and it lacked any emotional resonance that I needed to feel that they were impactful. The resolution between the protagonists seemed too convenient and just thrown together in the hopes that it worked out within the narrative. The resolution had failed to address the deeper issues presented earlier in the story.

In summary, Just My Type had an intriguing concept but fell short in its execution. The lack of character development, forced dialogue, and implausible plot points made it a disappointing read for me.

Really enjoyed this book! A perfect little romance. This book had so much snarky banter between Lana and Seth and had some How to Lose a Guy in 10 Day vibes. I devoured it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Falon Ballard, and the publisher for providing an advanced reader's copy of *Just My Type*.

*Just My Type* is a wonderfully engaging second-chance romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Lana Parker, who thought she had everything figured out, is thrown into chaos when her longtime boyfriend dumps her, and she finds herself in direct competition with her high school sweetheart, Seth, for a dream job. As the story unfolds, Lana and Seth are forced to confront their shared past, their lingering feelings for one another, and the unresolved issues that led to their breakup all those years ago.

One of the standout aspects of this novel is the chemistry between Lana and Seth. Their dynamic is electric, and you can't help but root for them as they navigate the tension, awkwardness, and deep emotions that come with reuniting after such a significant period apart. The back-and-forth between them is funny, heartbreaking, and filled with so much unresolved longing, making it impossible to put the book down.

Lana's personal growth is another highlight of the book. Her journey to heal from her past heartbreaks, rebuild her relationship with her mother, and learn how to prioritize herself is both inspiring and relatable. It’s clear that while Lana doesn’t have everything figured out, she is on the path to becoming the best version of herself, which is something that really resonated with me.

The banter between Lana and Seth was another aspect I thoroughly enjoyed. The dialogue was witty, emotional, and perfectly captured the rollercoaster of emotions that come with reconnecting with someone from your past. Although I didn’t always love Seth’s initial actions, he truly won me over as the story progressed, and I appreciated his growth as a character.

Overall, Just My Type is a perfect read for anyone who loves second-chance romances, witty banter, and characters who experience real personal growth. It was a fast, fun, and emotional read that I highly recommend, and it has definitely made me a fan of Falon Ballard’s writing. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

Really good second Chance romance. I just couldn't really see the chemistry for each other and how they just switched from not liking each other to loving each other so quickly. They grew separately then came together but didn't really talk about their wants and needs and regrets until right at the end.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this arc honestly.

Honestly I kept putting off reading the book. It had a very slow start that made me feel like maybe I was just in a reading rut but no, the second half picked up. The characters seemed a bit juvenile but I do appreciate the character development and character growth in the book. As I said the second half picked up but not sure it was enough to make up for the rough slow beginning.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

“When I decided to relocate and settle in one place, I didn’t even have to think about where to go. I’m the spinning needle of a compass and you’ve always been my true north, Parker.”

Just My Type was such a good second chance at romance. In this, you will meet Lana and Seth. She is constantly in relationships with the wrong guy, and he never seems to settle down with any girl. The cherry on top is that these two used to date, had a horrible breakup, and are now competing for the same position.

It's always interesting to see how someone can interpret a certain situation differently than another. Mostly because they both viewed the other as breaking their hearts. Sure, the feelings are still there, and it doesn't help that they continue to bicker and have amazing chemistry. Or does it?

I definitely enjoyed them being around one another. Especially since they are finally working on their issues and realizing that they still love one another. I did not appreciate their boss one bit, and I'm very happy with what they decided to do towards the end.

In the end, they healed, flirted, and found love again. I definitely look forward to the next book Falon writes and recommend the audiobook for this!

it took me a while to get into this one… I picked it up and put it down at least three different times in like two years 🥴 sorry y’all

and I think it was due to the fact that relationship turmoil seemed immature and juvenile for the age that the characters were supposed to be. lana had every right to get back on the horse and create an enemies to lovers situation with ex seth - but it all just seemed… old…

by the time the reader really got to know seth, who was the highlight of the story for me, I was already annoyed by the competition that lana set up for them. I just felt like this was the same old high school drama they went through, just continued as adults.. and I almost didn’t want them getting together at the end oops

the lack of communication between them really irked me as well and just added to the fact that the characters were extremely immature for their age…

thank you to netgalley and gp putnam for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

Falon Ballard does a great job of making believable characters and unique love stories! While this book started slow for me, the second half was a lot of fun. The "will they won't they" tension was great, and I loved how the characters prioritized their own individual growth before jumping into a relationship. I look forward to seeing what she does next!

I definitely slugged through the first half of this book and was stuck around the 2.5 star mark, but it picked up towards the end! I have some qualms about how she manages to get over her long-term relationship so quickly, but I guess that's not the point of the story! Overall, I enjoyed it and will be reading more about Falon Ballard in the future.

Fallon Ballard is one of my must-buy authors and this book is just another reason why. I’ll be honest and say that I love a MMC with the name Seth and so this book was already winning when I first got my hands on it.
This book is so sweet and fun yet tender and emotional. The way that Falcon Ballard is able to flesh out her characters and also make them relatable is just amazing! I always want more after I finish her stories and this book was no different. Read this!

Lana loves to write...she just doesn't love writing about dating and relationships, especially since her boyfriend just dumped her. To add insult to injury, her first love (and the man who broke her heart twelve years ago) has just been hired by the paper that just acquired the website she works at. Even worse, she and Seth are being pitted against each other in a competition for a column. This was such a fun read! It reminded me a lot of the 90s movie He Said She Said (which is a favorite of mine) in all the best ways. Seth and Lana have great chemistry and banter and I really love how Lana really dives into discovering who she really is outside of relationships. I look forward to reading more by Falon Ballard!

This book was an enjoyable and well-written read that held my attention from start to finish. The author’s writing style is engaging, making it easy to connect with the story. The pacing felt just right, and the attention to detail added richness to the overall experience. I appreciated how seamlessly everything came together, showcasing the author’s skill and creativity.

The themes and tone of the book were handled with care, creating a memorable reading experience. It’s clear a lot of thought went into crafting this work, and it shows in the quality of the writing. Overall, this is a book I would recommend to readers looking for something thoughtful and well-executed. This book has been on my Netgalley shelf for years and I haven’t picked it up. No shade to the author or the book, I think my taste has just changed and I’m not the right person to review it anymore.

Loved this book! I always look forward to anything written by Falon Ballard and this one did not disappoint. I loved the aspect of watching the two main characters grow together, and the book held the perfect amount of cheesiness to enjoy as a romance. Highly recommend!

I loved every part of this book! From the competition to the tension between Seth and Lana, to the amazing supporting characters this book had all the feels. This is what a romance book should be!

I loved Fallon Boyle’a first book Lease on Love! This one did not hit the same high points for me. I found the characters a bit underdeveloped and the plot basic.

Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book was everything I wanted it to be and more! I loved this spin on How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days! Lana, a journalist, who has never been single in her adult life has newly been broken up with when her high school sweetheart, Seth, comes back into her life. The two are pitted against each other in a bid to get a coveted journalist position at a parent company. Throughout the book Lana and Seth are confronted with their unresolved feelings for each other and their own internalized issues.

This book was A++++ I adore Fallon Ballard and enjoy reading her books. Full stop!

Read for the following tropes: second chance romance; enemies-to-lovers; and workplace rivals.

If you love pop culture references, this book is for you! Lana is such a shameless nerd — particularly for Star Wars — as she should be!

If you love reading about journalism, books or writing, this book is for you! I had so much fun reading about the behind-the-scenes process and conversations that happened throughout the book. There is a manipulative boss in the picture, however, so be aware if that is something that triggers you.

Fallon pulled me in with her debut, “Lease on Love,” and I continue to be hooked by her writing! I look forward to continuing to read through her backlist, as well as anything else she writes in the future.
