We all love a good second chance romance! I loved Ballard's Lease on Love so I was greatly looking forward to Just My Type. I will say I'm partial to Lease on Love but Seth and Lana's story was such a treat!

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC!

Just My Type by Falon Ballard is a captivating and thought-provoking coming-of-age novel that explores the complexities of identity and self-discovery. The story follows Ellie, a young woman who is struggling to find her place in the world. Coming from a mixed race ethnicity, Ellie feels like she doesn't quite fit in with either community. She grapples with issues of race, class, and privilege, while also navigating the ups and downs of first love and college life. The book is beautifully written, with a lyrical prose that draws the reader in from the very first page. The author's descriptions are vivid and evocative, painting a rich and immersive portrait of Ellie's world. What sets this book apart from other coming-of-age stories is its nuanced exploration of identity. The author deftly tackles issues of race, class, and privilege, without resorting to simplistic or reductive stereotypes. Ellie's struggles with her identity feel authentic and relatable, and her journey of self-discovery is both compelling and emotionally resonant. The characters in the book are also well-developed and multi-dimensional. Ellie's romantic interest, Liam, is a particularly interesting character, with his own struggles and insecurities. The supporting cast of friends and family members are also well-drawn, and add depth and complexity to the story. One of the strongest elements of the book is its portrayal of college life. The author captures the sense of freedom and possibility that comes with being away from home for the first time, as well as the challenges and pressures that come with navigating the academic and social expectations of college. Overall, it is a beautifully written and thought-provoking novel that tackles complex issues with sensitivity and nuance. The characters are compelling, the writing is evocative, and the themes of identity and self-discovery will resonate with readers of all ages. It's a must-read for anyone who has ever struggled with issues of identity and belonging.

Lana's struggle with relationships and setting boundaries is relatable. Lana's story starts with her breaking up with her boyfriend, who she thought was going to propose. She gets drunk and sees a DM from her ex. Yes, that ex, the one that broke her heart. She doesn't expect anything to come from it but she's completely wrong. It was meant to warn her that they would be working together. Lana and Seth are put against each in a competition for their dating column. The competition brings to light a lot of issues, like how Lana's boss treats her, and Lana's and Seth's real feelings for each other. It was an good read but can be triggering for the emotional abuse, lack of parental interest and bad breakup triggers.

Lana Parker is a relationship columnist for a website. It's not her dream job, but it's a writing job and she has a lot of experience with long-term relationships. After an Elle Woods moment where she ends up dumped instead of engaged, she is tasked with writing about being single. That means she cannot jump into a new relationship per her usual pattern. Then along comes Seth - a serial dater, the latest writer to join Lana's company, and her high school boyfriend who broke her heart twice. Seth and Lana are paired up to move past their opposing relationship strategies by challenging his inability to find a long-term partner and her inability to stay single. This challenge changes them in ways they never expected.

I adored this book!! I was so sad when it was over, even though the ending might have been my favorite part. I loved watching Seth and Lana's history unfold as they worked through their present circumstances. I love a storyline where personal growth takes center stage. I also loved the friendships throughout the book. I have been part of an office that feels like a family and I could feel that love in this book. This book deals with some heavy issues but still feels like an easy lighthearted read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC of Just My Type.

After LOVING Lease On Love last year, I could not wait to get my hands on her next novel, Just My Type!

Falon is a master at opening scenes. They grab you from the start with LOL moments that also create sympathy for the main character (because I’m glad it isn’t me 😂).

ᖇEᗩᗪ TᕼIᔕ Iᖴ YOᑌ ᒪIKE:
☑️Forced proximity/Enemies to Lovers
☑️Second chance
☑️Slow-burn
☑️Excellent banter (especially in group chats)
☑️Competition
☑️Strong Female Friends

Our MC, Lana, was not my favorite as I found her to be immature at times. I think I might have enjoyed our male lead, Seth, a bit more as he seemed to more willing to forgive. BUT…our girl does make some excellent character growth, so I have to give her some credit.

Heartwarming, amusing, and delectably charming!

Just My Type follows Lana and Seth’s contentions relationship competition for their lifestyle blog. After 12 years apart, high school sweethearts turned strangers, Seth comes barreling back into Lana’s life AND workplace. The blog puts them against each other in a competition: can Lana be okay single, and can Seth end his womanizing tendencies?

This was absolutely delightful. The plot was well-paced and captivating from start to finish. The characters were charming and witty. Leaving in Los Angeles, I also loved all the references.

Read this if you love hazelnut iced coffee, second chance romance, enemies to lovers & workplace rivalry.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.

This was such a cute second chance romance book! I loved the banter between the main characters Lana and Seth. Fallon Ballard wrote these characters exactly like I would believe two people who have known each other since they were 14 would act. Even though they have been apart for many years they still knew every button to push to drive the other person crazy. The dynamic of their relationship was unique and I loved how all the supporting characters fit into their story.
The storyline was established quickly and though the romance was a slow burn the plot moved along quickly and kept me interested throughout the book. It was a well-conceived plot with perfect pacing throughout. As each layer of their relationship was revealed it made me root for their reconciliation even more.
I enjoyed escaping into Lana's world and highly recommend it. I am extremely grateful to Penguin Group Putnam and Netgalley for the opportunity to read a digital ARC of this delightful book in exchange for an honest review.

In Just My Type, we have Lana, a writer for an online magazine who is a serial monogamist. After being dumped when she thought she was getting engaged, she thinks things can't get worse. Then her ex, her high school sweet heart, supposed to be together forever ex, walks back into her life and into competition for a job she's wanted for 8 years. Seth is a serial dater and has been living abroad, working as a freelance journalist. Now he's back and he's working at her company. Their boss devises a little competition: Lana needs to be on her own, Seth needs to find someone serious. They each have a list of 10 tasks to complete that are supposed to push them out of their comfort zones and into the next steps of their love lives. Each task gets a write up and by the end of it, the person with the most engagement wins a column. Lana has been after her own column since she started writing, so she's determined to win, but having Seth around- and all the baggage their history together brings- makes things more complicated.

Okay. Personally, this was just not it for me. I liked the premise and I did find some parts to be cute and sweet and give me those good romcom feels. However, this was a drudge to get through for me, which was a bummer because I thought I'd be hooked based on the opening scene and Legally Blonde reference. Thought I was in for a good time. The writing style just didn't do it for me. There are constant, incessant references to the MCU. Like. A lot. "Thank thor, thank loki, thank odin, thank chris pine". My god. We get it, she's a hot girl and she likes superheros. She's so quirky!! I also find Lana to be emotionally immature and petulant. For a good portion of the book, like 3/4 of it, Seth has like no personality and the supposed chemistry between them feels so forced. There's a lot of little things I just didn't care for that listing all out feels petty. I did like that going to therapy was a component of the story. There were a few elements like that that worked for me. I mostly liked Lana's friends, they were supportive. I like that she did commit to learning how to comfortably spend time with herself. Overall though, I just didn't find a lot of it to feel believable or real. I didn't connect with the characters or their story enough to care about them. I think there are definitely people who are going to love this book. It's not terrible, it just really isn't for me. It's a classic romcom where the problems could be solved with better communication. There's some spice and a HEA. I think a lot of people will find this to be a fun, cute, fluffy read. But for me, this just isn't my type.

This was really cute. I loved seeing Lana’s personal growth and getting to know her and Seth. It really resonated with me because me and my husband were also high school sweethearts who broke up and then eventually got back together.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my digital arc.

I was so excited when I received this. Falon Ballard can not write a bad book. This book is filled with her traditional goofballism, life needs, deep emotional baggage, and ability to make you HURT.

this book as a second chance romance, workplace, friend to lovers to nothing to enemies to friends to lovers. It's a whole whirlwind and i am here for it. There's much to be said about escapism and abuse here in this book. It's so good. Read it.

This book was pure sunshine. I loved it. The characters were so great, and I adore a book with awesome supporting characters too. The growth that Lana made during the course of the book just helped solidify my five star rating!

Ok, this book was adorable! First off it gave me Legally Blonde mixed with How to Lose a Guy in 10 days vibes and let’s be real that is a damn good combination to have wrapped up in a book.
The story follows Lana and Seth’s second chance romance after being apart for 12 years. Seth comes into Lana’s life unexpectedly at her workplace and they are then put head to head in a blog competition in order to land THE job at the LA Chronicle. The competition consists of different challenging tasks that each one will have to complete and then write their column about, hence the How to Lose a Guy in 10 days amazingness.
You will find yourself rooting for Lana in so many different ways because she is a relatable and lovable character throughout this story. The supporting characters are also amazing and funny and feed into the competition between Lana and Seth.
I highly recommend this one if you love a good, adorable romcom.
Read if you love:
Enemies to lovers
Love between rivalries
Second chance romance

5/5

I absolutely loved this book! I loved Falon Ballard's first book 'Lease on Love' and I'm so excited that this one lived up to the hype for me!

The characters are amazing, the banter, tension, side characters, growth and setting is fantastic! This book also had a fun mix between group text message threads, news articles and regular chapters which made it fun to read. These are the types of romance books I like. I know the characters are going to end up together but I still am surprised by their decisions and find myself rooting for their growth as individuals as much as a couple. Also, two journalists, what great jobs to witness!

You'd enjoy this book is you like:
-second chance love
-workplace romance
-enemies to lovers
-open door romance

Thank you to NetGalley and Ptunam for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!

AHHHH. Ok ok ok ok.
I can’t even given this book enough praise! This was OUTSTANDING and exactly what a rom com should be!

You feel so many emotions throughout this story. Honestly from the first line of a Legally Blonde reference to the surprise party in the epilogue, i was hanging on every word.

You’re getting so many amazingly developed characters and side characters in this novel. I adored the story line of this book! I was getting How to Loose a Guy in 10 days vibes and I was eating it up. 👏🏻

It’s giving: Enemies to lovers, second chance romance while all revolving around a contest to gain a writing job by completing tasks and writing articles about them.

I also adored the representation that women really don’t need a man to feel whole. The development that our FMC went through warmed my heart. She’s so relatable and when she finally stood up to Natasha at the end i was like YES GIRL.

This author has just gained a super fan, and she’s been immediately added to my auto buy list!

I was not impressed by Fallon's first book, and sadly this one was even worse. I just want a book with adlt characters who communicate like grown ups; is that too much to ask for?

I knew that I was going to love this book based on the description, but I didn’t know how much I was going to love it!! 💜 Being a writer myself I was drawn to the characters and the plot of the book. I loved the chemistry that Lana and Seth have throughout the book. Mental health and therapy are really important to me so I appreciated reading a book with such an emphasis on therapy and mental breakthroughs. All in all this was the perfect book with lots of nods to classic movies like Legally Blonde, When Harry Met Sally, etc.. I’m thankful to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for giving me a digital ARC of this great read!

This book is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! It is wonderfully written with a wonderful story. It is a story about a journalist. She wants her dream job in a story full of romantic comedy elements. It comes from the fantastic author of Lease on Love, though I haven't read that book, it did well. I am eager to look it up and read it. If you enjoy romantic comedies Just My Type is a must-read. She has done a wonderful job bringing romantic comedy to you in her book. You get the heart and laughs as well as romance -- that's exactly what you want!

4.5 Stars. I really, really loved this book. Exes & enemies to lovers, excellent banter and slow burn and funny as well. I loved the scenery in LA and the atmosphere that it provided. I loved that both Lana and Seth were writers and how that played into the story and their chemistry was so great. I think this was just really well written, the story was interesting and engaging and the steam level was the perfect amount. I really enjoyed it. Thank you to Netgalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC.
