This book held truth, but came off very old-fashioned. I would have loved to see more modern styles on the inside.

The pictures and story are good, but it is very wordy. The message of the story is great. I like that there are questions and answers at the end of the book to help discuss the lesson with kids.

I absolutely love Larry the Llama Learns About Love by J.M. Ashmore! Larry the Llama Learns About Love is about Larry the Llama, a llama whose job is to to watch his Farmer's sheep. One day, Larry notices the fence is down and he goes to check out what is on the other side. As Larry checks things out, a sheep named Lucy follows Larry. Despite Larry telling Lucy not to follow him and both end up getting lost. When they get lost, they decide to stay where they are and make noise until the Farmer finds them. I love everything about Larry the Llama Learns About Love--it is reminiscent of Christ love for us. The book has beautiful pictures that complement the story well. I also love the discussion questions in the back of the book, plus facts about llamas. This would be a perfect book to read in any setting. I highly recommend Larry the Llama Learns About Love! Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

Though cute this isn't really a picture book I'd buy for my siblings to read again and again. Don't get me wrong, it's a good children's book, I just don't think it would be read again and again I our family.

A sweet story that exemplifies the fruits of the spirit in a way children can understand and remember. I appreciated the llama facts, scripture, and discussion questions. I wonder if having the answers limits creative answers the children could provide. The answers are endless!

Very good message about love but the delivery was difficult to follow thru especially for young children. Sometimes less words are more efficient than more. I did appreciate the questions and answer at the back and the facts about Llamas.

The story is loosely based on the lost sheep of the New Testament with a farm animals with the fruit of the spirit.

I thought that this was a nice story

It had some nice illustrations that worked with the plot to bring the book to life

I wasn't a huge fan of the story and Larry wandering off in case children thought it was ok to do that after reading the book and whilst it works out well in the end for Larry, that may not have been the case.

It is 3 stars from me for this one

This picture book tells the story of Larry the Llama who is in charge to guarding the baby animals at the farm by watching for and scaring away bad guys. After a big storm, Larry notices the fence has been blown over and he decides to go explore, and a little lamb, Lily goes with him. They soon get lost and Larry worries the farmer will be upset and wont love him anymore. While connecting with bible stories, this book sends messages that all children can understand and benefit from. It is a sweet story about love and caring for one another and the idea that mistakes happen, we just need to learn from them and move on. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

A cute story about love and duty. I thought it was a little clunky, but overall it was readable.

Larry the llama is a sweet conscientious little guy who lands his first job at a farm. He is asked to guard the baby animals and frighten away any big bad animals that might lurk around and want to harm them. Larry is happy to assume the role of guardian and he hopes the farmer will love him.

A huge thunderstorm rolls in one day and all the animals take shelter in the barn where they are protected. After the storm and everyone exits Larry discovers that the fence has blown down. His curiosity gets the best of him and he decides to explore outside the fence.

Lily, an adorable little lamb, decides to follow in his tracks and they both become lost and can't find their way back to the safety of their farm.

Oh my! Will the farmer notice they are missing and come and rescue them and bring them home? Larry wonders if that happens, and he hopes it will, will the farmer still love him?

The illustrations are lovely and full of heart and expression. The author has included Story Questions and Answers, ten things to know about llamas, and lists the fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23a from the Bible, at the back of the book. I love that she did.

This heartwarming story is about humility, caring for one another, friendship, love and doing the right thing. Both young and old will enjoy this book with its positive message. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed Larry the Llama Learns About Love but I tried to read it to my 5 year old son and it did not keep his interest. For him, and based on the cover picture, the book was too long and too wordy. The book either needs to be simplified to appeal to the younger audience that the cover suggests or the cover needs changing to match the level of the story and make it appeal to older children.

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my ARC.

This is a cute story about a llama who has a job to do, but wanders away. He’s concerned the farmer won’t still love him, but is relieved to be welcomed back with open arms.

Overall, the story and pictures are good. What struck me though is that the book seems long for a children’s book. It is wordy, taking me over 5 minutes to read it quickly to myself. It would take much longer to read aloud to a child, look at the pictures, discuss the questions in the back, and read the llama facts. While all of that is interesting, a young child most likely would not have an attention span that long. The book is also too long for an older child to read to themself. The story could be just as effective, if not more so, if simplified.

There is a Bible verse included as the very last thing in the book. It feels like it was put there as a last minute thought to make it a Christian book. Without the verse at the end, it can be passed off as just another children’s book. I would have liked to see more that tied it in to scripture/parables.

Okay, I love llamas just about as much as I adore sloths, so I was here for this one. More than that, this sort of alliteration is most children’s tongue twisting dreams, and has them laughing hysterically. Larry the Llama is excited about his new job helping the farmer love on and take care of all of the baby animals on the farm. Larry’s job was to scare bad animals away, to keep the little ones safe. One day, Larry gets the urge to go beyond the fence of the farm and explore, though, much to his dismay, little Lily the Llama is tagging along with him. While he knows he should take care of her and bring her back to the farm, his curiosity and desire to explore gets the best of him, and he keeps on keeping on. Unfortunately, both Larry and Lily end up getting lost – they don’t know where home is. Eventually, the two are rescued when they cry loudly for help, and the farmer is overjoyed and crying tears of happiness to find his lost llamas. Not only do they make it home, but they realize that the farmer loved them deeply and more than anything else. A fantastic story about the meaning of home, getting lost, doing our jobs, and – at the end of the day – the fact that our parents and those who take care of us will always have love that outweighs disappointment.

Based on the cover, I thought this would be for a younger crowd, I think it was a little misleading. So for mine I had mixed reviews. My youngest wasn't hooked because there were a lot of words on one page with only one picture. My older child who was sitting nearby did pay more attention though. I think the drawings were beautiful and the story did have. a great lesson. I enjoyed the questions at the end to keep the conversation going, the llama facts were fun to learn something new as well!

The friendship between Larry the Llama and the little lamb was a cute story about caring for others and loving each other even when mistakes are made. Larry the Llama the baby lamb both made mistakes. They admitted to their mistakes and forgave each other. This was a good example of responsibility and forgiveness.

I love having biblical principles in the stories I read to my child, and this was a great one. I loved the lessons and the adorable illustrations. My almost 3 year old son loved the animals and asked to read this book multiple times.

This was okay. I thought it was a little too long, and my 5 & 6 year old lost interest pretty fast. The illustrations were great though. I also enjoyed the llama facts at the end!

Thank you to NetGalley and Books Go Social for the arc!

Larry the llama Learns about Love
2 Stars

I didn't care for this book. Larry the Llama isn't very kind to the baby animals he's looking after, nor was he very respectful to other animals. He didn't take his job seriously and I have no desire to introduce my child to this poor behavior. Larry acted very much like a misbehaving teenager.

The illustrations are colorful, but a bit basic. I like animals' clearly seen facial expressions. The reading level is around 4 ( at easy reader levels.) There are questions at the end of the story to gauge your child's understanding or lessons learned. I loved the Llama facts at the back of the book.

Overall, I am underwhelmed. The description covers the entire story, minus the illustrations. I honestly feel this story was long and not interesting enough to hold the attention of younger children. Thank you, NetGalley and Books Go Social, for an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a more convoluted book than I expected it to be. I thought it would be a pretty simple parable, but there were, actually, some nuanced lessons to unpack.

I loved the practical tidbit about staying in place and yelling for help if you get lost. I also thought the discussion questions at the end were particularly well done.

That being said, I thought the complex emotional choices of the characters could have been supported a bit more by the text. Larry's reactions to Lily were harsh. We could have used a bit of context about why they were behaving the way they were. He just yells at her to go home, then immediately drops it... the repeats the process.

Same with Lily - I would like to have a bit more emotional context for her choice to follow him outside the fence. It could have been powerful if she was showing her love by following him.

I also don't think that the "child" in this situation (the sheep) should have to apologize to the caregiver (the llama). That didn't sit well with me. The caregiver was being flimsy and inconsistent - it is wrong to let a child assume responsibility. It is the caregiver's responsibility to make sure the child does what is needed.

Finally, why does the cover art not match the inside art? It's misleading and incongruent.

If the book explores one layer deeper, it could have been really powerful. As written, it's too matter-of-fact for the complicated choices our characters are making.
