Murder at a Scottish Wedding is a terrific fourth instalment to a cosy mystery series by Traci Hall and I found the book to be an extremely fun read.

I love the setting of Nairn, a delightful sounding Scottish town by the seaside, so imaginatively depicted by the author. Twenty-something single mum, Paislee Shaw has made a great life for herself, her son Brody and their black terrier, Wallace. Paislee's grandad, Angus also lives in her home. She owns Cashmere Crush, a bespoke speciality knitwear shop where the locals can while away their time at her 'Knit and Sips' group. A full cast of interesting characters complements the disorganised, very determined Paislee though not everyone was as they seemed. The plot was strong and comfortably paced, and the puzzling mysteries (there are two of them) kept me guessing. I enjoyed reading Murder at a Scottish Wedding and I am already anticipating another trip to Nairn and getting to know all of the characters to a greater degree. If you adore a fantastic cosy mystery with some romance and decent helpings of family angst and community spirit, don't miss out on Murder at a Scottish Wedding.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

It’s so great to be back with Paislee and the good folks of Nairn. Not only are Hall’s characters incredibly likeable but her style of writing effortlessly immerses you into the Scottish dialect in a delightful way. Most importantly, the mystery plot is very well-balanced with plenty of clues, suspects and red herrings that will keep you guessing till the end. I also really liked that the overarching mystery involving Paislee’s uncle was concluded so satisfactorily. I very much enjoy this entire series and can’t wait to see where it goes from her. Since this is the fourth book in the Scottish Shire Mystery series, be sure to pick up book one, Murder in a Scottish Shire, to catch up on Paislee’s sleuthing adventures from the beginning.

As Matron of Honor at her best friend Lydia’s wedding, Paislee is finding the job may be a little more challenging than she thought. Lydia is marrying Corbin Smythe whose family is very wealthy and whose mother-in-law, Mary, is extremely superstitious! Corbin has picked out a Luckenbooth brooch, a family heirloom, to give to Lydia. After a psychic reading alerts Mary that Lydia does not belong in the family and will fall victim to the brooch’s curse, Mary begins to break up the marriage. While the wedding party is out taking pictures, the brooch goes missing, leading to a frantic search. Just as the wedding ceremony is to begin, Corbin’s cousin falls down the stairs to her death with the brooch found in her hand. Now, Paislee must prove the brooch was not to blame, but actually the catalyst for an attempted murder on her friend. Will Paislee be able to solve and prove it was murder in time to save Lydia from death?

While reading this series, you will find yourself transported to the land of Scotland. The descriptions and dialect will pull you in and keep you reading, I had trouble putting it down. The plot is well-thought out and all my favorite secondary characters were on hand. The continued storyline featuring Paislee’s grandfather is evolving as changes are taking place and decisions must be made. The family dynamic is so heartwarming between Paislee, Angus, and her son Brody. I can appreciate Paislee’s worry as a mother, watching her son navigate through boyhood. Lydia’s parents are delightful, and I hope we continue to see them in future installments. There were several clues to decipher since nearly everyone involved in the wedding had secrets. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another clue would throw me off! This is a charming and well-crafted cozy. Traci is a very talented storyteller that does not disappoint. The next book cannot come out soon enough!

Murder at a Scottish Social is book #3 in A Scottish Shire Mystery series by Traci Hall.

Paislee is the matron of honor at her friend’s wedding. Lydia’s wedding did not go as planned. There is information about Paislee’s uncle that has her worried about her grandpa. And then dealing with a growing son and running a business has Paislee busy.

I enjoyed this visit to Scotland to see these characters again. I’d love to have a friend like Paislee. The murder mystery was interesting and I’m so glad I don’t know anyone like the Smythe family, at least most of them. The mystery around Paislee’s Uncle Craigh was intriguing especially since it brought DI Zeffirelli back in Paislee’s orbit.

I highly recommend this book and series.

Murder at a Scottish Wedding is the fourth book in the series by Traci Hall. The story begins on Lydia Barron’s wedding day. If you have been following the series then you know that Lydia has the step mother in law to be and stepsisters in law to be that would give Cinderella’s stepfamily a run for their money. At least she has best friend, Paislee Ann Shaw, on hand for support and help when a murder takes place.

Besides the wedding that almost wasn’t and a murder to be solved that is a second subplot concerning Paislee’s uncle. Many characters to keep track of in this story so I needed to stay on my toes as reading to keep up with who was related or friends. With a twist or two and a surprise murderer this is an entertaining read. It is cozier than thriller as there is no bad language or graphic violence and gore. Yeah, just the kind of read for me. Recommend it to others who like the same. While this might be okay as a stand-alone perhaps reading in order would enhance the enjoyment of this story.

An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Murder at a Scottish Wedding” the 4th instalment in the Scottish Shire Mystery series by Traci Hall. This has become one of my favourite Scottish cozy mysteries! I absolutely loved this instalment and can’t wait for book 5

As her friend’s matron of honor, Paislee Shaw vows to solve the mystery of a missing brooch and a dying wedding guest . . .

I loved that we had two mysteries to solve, Lydia missing Luckenbooth brooch and the death of Corbins cousin. I find the characters to be wonderful, full of Scottish pride and small village life, I wouldn’t mind living there myself and attending the Sip and Stitch.

Now I’m glad that Paislee, her son Brody and grandpa Angus are still together but with Craigh still in the picture who knows what will happen. Read on to find out all about Paislees uncle Craigh.

The mystery is interesting, well plotted, full of lots of twists and kept me guessing on whodunnit right to the reveal.

I highly recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

Murder At A Scottish Wedding is the fourth book in the A Scottish Shire Mystery series by Traci Hall.

Paisley Shaw is the maid of honor for her best friend, Lydia, and they are in the final preparations before walking down the aisle. But the gold Luckenbooth brooch that her fiance, Corbin Smyth, has given her, a family tradition, is nowhere to be found. Lydia selects another pin and conceals it with part of her wedding dress, and they set off for the march down the aisle. But as they start, a Smyth cousin comes screaming from the restroom, saying she can’t see and stumbles down the front steps. Paisley finds the missing broch in the hand of the victim. The cousin is rushed to the hospital, where she soon dies. It’s soon learned that the brooch was covered with strychnine powder, so someone is trying to stop Lydia from marrying Corbin. Corbin’s stepmother has made it very clear that Lydia isn’t a suitable wife for Corbin. Corbin’s stepmother also claims that there is a curse on the brooch. Regardless if it’s a curse or someone wants to murder Lydia, Paisley and Lydia will combine their efforts to find out who was the murderer.

Paisley’s grandfather also plays a prominent role in this book. Grandpa continues his search for his missing son, Craigh. DI Zeffer, who Paisley usually deals with, spends most of his time searching for Craigh. DI Zeffer does share that Craigh has been working uncover for Scotland Yard but has recently gone missing.

The story is well-written and plotted. Plenty of red herrings kept me guessing until the end as to who the killer was. Most of the characters, who are well-developed and believable, are back again in this book. The book reads at a good pace and was hard for me to put down,

I’m looking forward to the next book is this enjoyable series.

I really liked the storyline of the brooch but felt it was overpowered by a second mystery involving Paislee’s long-lost Uncle Craigh. I felt it could have been its own book because there was so much going on and distracted from Lydia and Corbin’s story. There were also lots of characters in the story, which is great for having more suspects, but made it hard to keep up with who was who. I liked the Scottish brogue in the dialogues because it added ambiance to the story, but found it hard to read at times. I also thought the ending was a little cheesy.

Murder at a Scottish Wedding is book 4 in the Scottish Shire Mystery series by Traci Hall.

Wedding troubles, a cursed pin, family drama, great characters, and an intriguing mystery (or two) with plenty of red herrings to keep a reader guessing...this book definitely has it and more. It held my attention from the first page until the last, and had me swiping pages as quickly as possible just to read what happens next. Highly recommend.

Many thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

I just adore Traci Hall's Scottish Shire Cozy Mystery series, and 'Murder at a Scottish Wedding' is evidence that it just keeps getting better and better. Paislee's best friend Lydia is marrying into local aristocracy with harsh lack of acceptance from the groom's family. A bridesmaid suffers anaphylactic shock and dies in a fall down the chapel steps, canceling the wedding. There is intrigue galore, cursed jewelry, sightings of Paislee's long lost uncle and the return of a certain police inspector that combine to make this near perfect. There is resolution, yet opportunity visited for more to come. I can't wait!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Fourth in the series.
Paislee's friend Lydia is abourt to marry Connor. Unfortunately, the heirloom brooch
Connor gave Lydia has disappeared - searches ensue but it is decided to go on with
the ceremony minus the brooch. When a cousin of the groom's disrupts the ceremony
with a frantic run out of the church, she falls and breaks her neck, holding the missing
brooch in her hand. The wedding is put on hold. The tests show the brooch was laced
with poison. Which wedding guest is behind the plot to harm Lydia? Paislee is determined
to find the culprit before Lydia is harmed.
While all this is goiing on, Paislee's grandfather is dealing with the disappearance of his son -
is he dead or alive? Why are the authorities so interested in finding him?
Delightful addition to the series

Thank you at Kensington/Kensington Cozies and Traci Hall for this ARC. I loved this story! The Scottish brogue and all. Lydia and Corbin were a match made in heaven, had it not been for the Smythe Clan and all its underhanded antics. Mary the stepmother and her daughters were evil personified! And they got their just rewards! Paislee as one of my favorite characters, a good mother, a loving granddaughter, an all around down to earth good person. I have to say, I did not know what a luckenbooth brooch was, but I of course checked into those. All around I would say I would highly recommend this book, for its charm and wit, and but of course a very happy ending! Thank you again Traci Hall for a wonderful read, and looking forward to reading more of your books.

A great cozy Murder mystery. It had intrigue, drama, and emotionally distant Scotland Yard agent, spies, a wedding, and jealousy. There are enough supporting characters that the culprit wasn’t apparent until the author chose to reveal. I also enjoyed the multiple story lines. I would definitely read the sequel!

This series is on my list of favorite cozies. While it works okay as a stand alone I think it's best read in order. The continuing story of Paislee Shaw and her grandfather and their search for his missing son runs through each book. Add a new mystery and you have a very entertaining read.
Lydia is getting married.....or is she? Her future in laws are not happy with their son's choice, especially when he gives Lydia a ruby brooch to wear on her wedding day. The jewel goes missing and another is used. When the groom's cousin meets a tragic end by falling down the church steps, breaking her neck it gets complicated. There was poison involved in her demise....on the brooch in her hand. Could it have anything to do with Lydia? So much for getting married. Paislee sets out to catch the killer before another attempt is made on Lydia's life. It's what a best friend does.
With a well constructed puzzle to unravel and a great cast of recurring characters this was an entertaining reading escape and I'm looking forward to escaping to the Scottish town of Nairn again and spending time with Paislee at her charming woolen/knitting shop, Cashmere Crush. I can always find room for another of her gorgeous sweaters. (Even if there is a mystery to solve.)
My thanks to the publisher Kensington and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

The 4th Scottish Shire mystery has a lot going on. It seems that a year has passed since the last murders and Paislee has been helping her best friend Lydia plan her wedding to Corbin.
Corbin’s family is large and well known. His stepmother Mary has created nothing but trouble in the days leading up to the wedding.
The book opens on Lydia’s wedding day with a missing brooch. Before the day is out someone will be dead.
In addition to the mystery surrounding the missing brooch and the death, the reader may finally find out more about Craigh, grandpa’s missing son. This is a part of the series that has continued from the first book with no resolution.
There is so much to like about this book.
The cover is darling. If I ever considered a pet, I would enjoy a Scottish terrier. The one on the cover is very cute.
The mode of death is interesting.
What Craigh is involved in brings greater suspense to the story.
The friendship that Lydia and Paislee have is nice to read about. I wish this kind of friendship happened more in real life.
Murder at a Scottish Wedding is a book I can happily recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for th opportunity to review this book.

This turned out to be the fourth book in the series, but it was my first and that may have been a mistake. I see there are many glowing reviews from people who were already familiar with the characters and of course I missed out on that side of things.

Nevertheless it was easy to pick up on who was who, and the story line about a murder at a wedding with its following investigation was fun. I was not as interested in Grandpa Angus and the events regarding his son but it was still easy reading.

I have never been a fan of authors trying to replicate a dialect in print, be it Scottish, Irish, Yorkshire or even (please no!) Australian. This one, obviously from the title, was Scottish and I got very tired of characters saying they were "sairy."

Despite my criticisms I was not sairy I had read the book. It was a light, entertaining read and I would be happy to read more books from this author.

Traci Hall, one of my favorite authors, has a new mystery out in her Scottish Shire series--Murder at a Scottish Wedding. The series is so much fun, with characters I enjoy and a good mystery to try and solve. Paislee's friends are getting married.... until a guest is fatally injured just before the nuptials. Unruly relatives, a MIL from Hades, and a missing brooch all contribute to the decision to postpone the wedding. The race to find the culprit is slow going due to the number of unhappy relatives---red herrings and the on- going mystery of her missing Uncle slow Paislee and Lydia's race to unmask the wrong doer.
I found the dialect charming & felt it added to the 'Scots vibe' of the series. I look forward to more escapades with Paislee and Grandpa. I hope she opens herself up for a new relationship now that Brody is getting older.
Thank you NetGalley, #KensingtonCosies #TraciHall for granting me the E-ARC that I requested. All opinions expressed are my own. I am excited to share this book! #MurderataScottishWedding #NetGalley #ScottishShire

2.5 stars

Pro:
* Unique method for the murder
* Grandpa Angus has a lot of air time.
* Paislee and Lydia’s friendship is heartwarming.
* Storyline finally picks up around 75%.

Con:
* Dialect is as offputting as it has been for the entire series.
* Remaining prose is mediocre, a bit dry.
* The subplot with Grandpa Angus’s son has become over the top. Enough already.

Honestly, this one was a chore to get through. There isn’t enough to keep me coming back for another book. Thank you to Traci Hall, Kensington Cozies, and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Paislee and the gang is back in the 4th of this cozy mystery. We continue with the mystery of her Uncle’s disappearance and a new mystery involving her best friend, Lydia. Standing up as Main of honor at Lydia and Corbin wedding was wonderful, till a family heirloom brooch goes missing. Lydia is frantic! Her future to be mother in law told her it’s bad luck if she is not wearing it. Now the wedding is slightly delayed while the bridesmaids are looking for it. Deciding to go ahead, being one not believing in curses. As the wedding progression starts, one of Corbin’s many cousins bumps into Paislee crying out she can’t see. Felice runs outside blindly and tumbles down the church steep steps, landing at the bottom with her neck in an awkward position. Paislee and Michael (the best man) run down the steps but it’s too late. Strangely the missing brooch is in her hand.
So besides the postpone wedding due the the death in the family and trying to figure out what happened. Paislee grandfather Angus is still trying to find his missing son. Paislee is involved once again in more mysteries.
Another well written who dunnit. What I love about Traci Hall cozy mysteries they are not corny as so many are. She keeps you guessing till the end. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #MurderataScottishWedding
