This is a nice follow-up to the first book in the series. The story features Mari's Aunt Trina who is torn between her successful music career centered in Tennessee and her family back in Texas. The angst feels real and she has a growing concern for her mother, Peach. I really liked this story.
The author picks up on the characters from the first book and shows that both writers worked together to keep a smooth flow going in the lives of the three family members. New characters are introduced along with a mystery that threatens Mari's dog rescue mission. The promise of romance is also in the air when a friend from Tina's past becomes involved in her situation.
I received this book from the publisher and NetGalley. It's a very enjoyable read in my personal opinion, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

This is the second book in the Gone to the Dogs series. This is such an enjoyable series. The second book brings back many of the characters from the first book and continues the storyline of Mari trying to set up a dog rescue. Her aunt, Trina, a country music star from Nashville, tries to decide if she can work out a way to continue working in Nashville, but being able to spend time with her mother and niece. Someone does not want her there, so there are many mysterious occurrences that happen trying to keep her away.

This is a great cozy mystery that keeps you guessing throughout the book. Just the time you think you have the mystery solved, it takes a turn. I enjoyed this very much and highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys mysteries. I received an advanced copy of this book from Barbour Publishers and Netgalley and was not required to give a review. The opinions expressed are my own. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I adored the first book from the Gone to the Dogs series, Off the Chain, and was excited to read the next installment and Kathleen Y’Barbo’s contribution, Dog Days of Summer. I thought it was a fun and a delightful book to read. I enjoyed getting to know Trina and Wyatt’s story. Of course, all the animals involved makes for a few giggles. I really loved reading every single page. It was great.

Dog Days of Summer will be getting five stars from me. I believe readers who enjoy reading clean cozy mysteries will want to snatch this one up and give a read. I look forward the next installment from the Gone to the Dogs series, Janice Thompson’s Barking up the Wrong Tree.

I received a paperback copy of Dog Days of Summer from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Cute cozy mystery set in a small Texas town (Brenham). Told from first person point of view of country singer Trina Potter. Trina's career is based in Nashville yet she feels the pull of her home town to be near her mother and niece.

Someone is out to hamper Trina's thoughts of returning home to Brenham permanently. Or is it her niece's dog rescue non-profit that's the focus of misdeeds?

While I'm not a cat person, the cat star of this book was a great addition. The covers on this series are fun and provide a great glimpse of what readers will find in the pages.

What a great followup to "Off the Chain". This can be read as a standalone, but I'd still recommend reading book one first because you'll be missing out on a wonderful story if you don't.

I love the town of Brenham and the great cast of characters. Trina was likable and, despite the fact that she's a famous country music star, relatable and down to earth. Wyatt was a total sweetheart. I couldn't help but fall for him. Mama Peach still had to be my favorite character, though. She's something else, lol!

The mystery was an intriguing one. There were a lot of pieces to it and I didn't figure out most of it until the very end. It definitely took some surprising turns.

This feel-good cozy mystery left a big smile on my face. It's sure to delight lovers of dogs and small town mysteries. I can't wait for the next book!

I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

I enjoy cozy mysteries, and this series has been a treat. Trina Potter wants to help her niece get her rescue business up and running, but in the meantime, someone is sabotaging Second Chance Ranch before they even get set up. I like the idea of dog rescue and love the pups in this delightful mystery. There is a thread of romance, but the kennel and the mystery take the limelight. If you enjoy cozies, give Dog Days of Summer a read and make sure to read book 1, Off the Chain. Book 3, Barking Up the Wrong Tree will be available January, 2023.I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Read the cover for story details, I don't give book reports. . A fun cozy mystery that will hold your interest and make you feel as though you're right there watching the events. It is part of a series but could easily be read as a standalone. Laugh out loud funny in some scenes. The mystery of the 'who dunnit' (not a murder) will keep you guessing until the end. Read and enjoy! I was provided an advanced reader copy of the book at my request. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author,Barbour Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.

A very cute doggy mystery. Great for pet lovers, especially!! Not too easy to solve, and a fun story.

This was such a fun read, the pages flew, and although this is the second book in this series, by a different author, it meshed beautifully! Yes, it can be read alone, but you would be missing another great book! Now I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Yes, we have returning characters, gotta love Mamma and her yummy pies, and her Granddaughter Marigold and her heart for rescue dogs, but this book is Aunt Trina, whom loves her family, and she will do anything to keep them safe!

The author does a great job of keeping your attention, and there is a lot of action, and my mind kept guessing, yes, I was right about some, but it is deeper, you won't be disappointed!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

Dog Days of Summer is a great fun mystery read. This is book two in the Gone to the Dogs series but it is not necessary to have read book one to be able to follow the plot of this one. Tyler’s vet clinic is running well and employees Mari, Parker and Cassidy continue to rescue dogs in the evenings. Mari's dream is to one day open a pet rescue. Her aunt Trina is a country singer who wants to spend more time at home with her Mom but can she meet her obligations at the same time? When a bomb is planted outside the temporary shelter will it derail all of their plans for a permanent location? More strange happenings occur before the puzzle unfolds to reveal who is opposed to the rescue center.
The story is well written and the characters very realistic. The plot moves along at a steady pace and the ending, which I hadn’t figured out, is satisfying. I look forward to the next book in the series!
I received an advance copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Kathleen Y’Barbo’s “Dog Days of Summer” picks up shortly after the first installment of the Gone to the Dogs series, with Mari Evans continuing her dog rescue organization.

When a bomb is found near the rescue, her country singer aunt Trina Potter comes home to Brenham, Texas, to help out her niece as well as check on her pie-making mama. As her heart strings keep getting pulled to return home to Brenham, more and more questionable events occur around the rescue and Trina herself.

With the help of high school friend and now attorney Wyatt, can Trina figure out just what’s going on in her small hometown, and how to make a more permanent move from Nashville back to Texas?

“Dog Days of Summer” is a fun, cozy mystery that will appeal to fans of mysteries and dog stories. Y’Barbo puts just enough of an intrigue as well as a little romance to make this an enjoyable read. She creates, along with the author of the series’ first novel Janice Thompson, great characters that readers will fall in love with, including several plucky dogs and a cat that can make video calls and open doors.

Y’Barbo manages to seamlessly continue the story started by Thompson, while also including a few good themes like holding on to dreams; the impossible just takes a little longer sometimes; and don’t diminish your gifts and contributions in life.

Told with an almost Mitford-like tone, readers of small town stories, cozy mysteries and animal stories will love “Dog Days of Summer,” which is due out Oct. 1. You could read this as a standalone, but I’d recommend checking out the first novel, “Off the Chain.” The third novel, “Barking Up the Wrong Tree” by Thompson is set to be released in January.

Five stars out of five.

Barbour Publishing, Inc. provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.

An awesome fun read by a favorite author of mine. Her writing is wonderful!
I knew I was in for a treat when I seen this book!
Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing and I laughed at the costumes for the parades. I can just picture the characters faces.
I definitely loved the small town feel.
I didn't want to put the book down and now I want to read book 1. I had no idea that there was another. I'll need to get that one too.
I wanted this book so bad and my wish was granted! Thank you so much Netgalley!

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER by KATHLEEN Y’BARBO is the second novel in the Gone to the Dogs series. I loved it - what a delightful book with unforgettable characters, both human and animal, some mysteries to be solved, a great story, a sweet romance and a gentle Christian message.
Trina Potter, a well known singing star, travels back to her hometown to check on her mother, the feisty Peach Potter, and her neice, Mari, a veterinary technician who has started the Second Chance animal rescue clinic. It seems as though someone does not want her to be there and also that someone does not want the animal shelter to succeed. When she buys a property there things really become dangerous ……
I love the way Trina tells the story and the way the handsome lawyer, Wyatt Chastain, her high school prom date, reappears in her life as they work together to follow the clues and sift through a list of suspects to solve the crimes.
I highly recommend Dog Days of Summer to anyone who enjoys a fun and exciting read that really keeps you guessing until the end.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Trina, a musician out of Nashville, has returned to small town Texas to take care of her mom and niece. I did like this cozy mystery overall, but at times felt like there were too many red herrings being thrown in. Liked her mom's cat. Would recommend.
